My Story
My story is pretty ordinary. Having been developing slowly, I've always dreamed about a day when I  wake up a man. My facial hair pattern was extremely uneven and poor. I had hair on the sides of my chin, which wouldn't connect. Virtually nothing on my neck and underneath my jaw, minimal chin-hair, etc. If I'd tried to grow a goatee at that point time it would've looked something like that:
It affected my self-esteem badly as I was (and still am) 21 years old. I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously because of my boyish looks.
So I started my quest deciding to do some research. The responses I got weren't very promising saying that facial hair is mainly determined by genetics and the best one can do is to wait and see what happens. But I didn't give up. Trying to dig out as much relevant information as possible I came across medicine called Rogaine. Once designed to cure baldness, it proved to have a nice side effect resulting in enhanced facial hair growth. The main problem was (and still is) that no scientific research whatsoever has been conducted on the correlation between the use of Rogaine and facial hair growth. It did pull me back a little but that was until I found the Beard Board, a forum completely dedicated to facial hair, where the use of Rogaine was a very hot topic. That was it. I'd finally found something,  I thought. Not only did I get the information I needed, I also became more confident and finally joined a team of 'lab rabbits', driven by the idea of self-transformation and self-development.
Guys I owe you a lot. This page is dedicated to all members of the Beard Board; with a main objective to inform and encourage future generation of Rogaine users.
As far as I am concerned this is the very first attempt to publish before and after pictures,
proving that Rogaine (Minoxidil) works. Enjoy the ride. You've all contributed to my success.

My Diary
18/11/03 My very first photos have been taken with a pictured 3-day stubble. The bare patches are noticeable with a main spot in the middle of  a goatee-to-be. Purchased 4 bottles of generic Minoxidil.
04/12/03  First application of Rogaine. No visible side effects (itching, peeling, etc.), except for the common dryness of skin.
05/12/03 The Rogaine routine has to be as follows: 2 applications a day 1ml each time. Cleansing cream is to be applied twice daily at least 4 hours after the last application, then a moisturiser. Will shave every. Heard that it helps absorption. Don't want to fool myself - if I shave 2 -3 times a week, I will look for the new growth more. My main objective is to be objective. What? Doesn't matter. You get the picture.
06/12/03 Felt something in my left knee & ankle, some sort of bearable but unexplainable stiffness.
07/12/03 Noticed an increased heart rate. Nothing to worry about. Probably is caused by a VERY HOT weather 30C - 35C almost every day for 4 days in a row.
08/12/03  Some acne-like thing on my sideburns and under my chin. Acne matches with a stubble growth and is only present where I shave.
10/12/03 Well, it's been a week since I started and nothing to report in terms of new growth as expected.
17/12/03  Some little dark vellus hairs start appearing here and there. Chest hair seems to thicken up a bit.
18/12/03  Annoying chest pain all day long. The temperature outside is around 40C, which makes it even worse.
20/12/03  It's sort of funny that I've experienced almost all side effects described in the literature: increased heart rate, chest pain, and acne. The only thing that stops me from ceasing on Rogaine use is the fact that all aforementioned symptoms lasted for one day only and never came back. Maybe it's just my body adjusting to the drug, I don't know. Or it's just the temperature outside. It's summer here in Melbourne and it's been extremely hot since I started my experiment: 30-40C every single day.
I don't know what to blame. Will see what happens...
21/12/03 Started applying  Lip Balm on my lips to prevent Rogaine ingestion by licking, which has happened before and might have been responsible for some of my side effects.
22/12/03 Heart rate has returned back to normal. No acne is present. Seems like I've passed the initial period of adaptation to the drug.
28/12/03 Rogaine seems to be working. Found 10-15 previously absent little light vellus hairs underneath my jaw.
02/01/04 The very first bottle is finished (3left). Rogaine seems to have gone "systemic", as there are some noticeable changes on my body. Chest hair continues to thicken up, so does forearm hair as well as hair on my legs. Eyebrows are growing towards my temples and are thicker then ever, which isn't good, as I'd had very thick eyebrows already. That definitely will need waxing or something.
12/01/04 New growth on the front chin. Plenty of new light hairs underneath my jaw!
17/01/04 My "underjaw section" as well as "upper neck" are now completely covered in vellus hair, which were almost bare before the Rogaine experiment.
02/02/04 I'm on my second bottle (2 left). Little vellus hairs continue to appear here and there; no visible side effects, except for extended eyebrows.
29/02/04 3d bottle has been started (1 left). Not much in terms of a progress, some bald spots seemed to have filled up though.
22/02/04 New cheek hair I believe. Chin has reached some sort of plateau.
28/03/04 Finally, the last bottle. My facial coverage can be described as even, although it probably represents around 80 percent of what I would have got, had I been developing "normally". My upper neck as well as my lower chin are generously covered with stiff adult hair; my sideburns and the jawline areas are pretty much filled in, except for those upper cheeks, which are still patchy; the moustache area seems alright too.
