Friday night Melbourne experienced it's worst storm for 5 years with hail the size of golf balls. Fortunately most of those heading for Queenscliffe missed it or were able to take appropriate shelter. The weather was unseasonably cool for the whole weekend but this still didn't stop many from taking in the games and water slides on the Saturday afternoon. This year the Geelong Rodders had secured the Fort at Queenscliffe for the Show and Shine on the Sunday. This was the first time an event of this size had been allowed to use the complex. It really is a unique location, at the heads to Port Phillip Bay, the Fort was built to protect Melbourne from invasion by sea in the second World War, many of the original buildings still exist including all the original gun emplacements, one of which made an ideal sound shell for the band. There was even 3 shots from a cannon at 11:00pm. Saw heaps of new rods, many on SR plates, that I certainly hadn't seen before including a '34 Coupe, '48 Convertible, '51 Convertible, T tourer, '34 Roadster with neat hardtop, and a really smooth custom Lastly, congrats to Gavin, who finished his very clean XP Hardtop just in time to take in the run.
