We get exactly what we ask for - no more no less. If life does not seem to be supplying you with your needs or desires, it's not because the universe is malfunctioning; it is because subconsciously you are asking for or expecting something other than what you believe you want. Day by day we write our own destiny. Thoughts are causes, and conditions are effects. If you've ever wanted to know the status of your thoughts, you need only to look at your conditions. One of the greatest messages ever given to mankind is written in the Scriptures: "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Translated, it means that whatever you send out in word, thought, or deed will sooner or later return to you - and with astounding accuracy. In practical terms, if you crave friendship, affirm friendship. Do you want love? Speak loving words to others. If you want the confidence of others, show confidence in others. You have the power to do whatever you wish, but you must think and speak it into action. In the beginning was the word, and the word gives power to our universe. Use it to create the type of world you desire! Thoughts from: Clifton Tulloch The 11th Commandment: "Thou Shalt Not Should on Thyself (or others)." by Michael Angier I`ve spent far too many years of my life caring too much about what other people thought. I was a magnet for people telling me what to do. And I let them "should" on me--a lot. As a result, I made some very poor decisions based upon "expert" advice that was totally contrary to what I knew in my heart was the right thing to do. When someone I cared about would give me advice, I`d feel bad if I didn`t follow their recommendation. Maybe I just didn`t trust myself enough to follow my heart--or didn`t know how. I found it easy to feel guilty about what I did or didn`t do--simply because it didn`t match the views of others I respected. Most everyone has an opinion about what you should do. It takes a strong resolve to become clear and stay true to your inner guidance system. It`s one of the toughest things to learn. I had to become aware that guilt was literally running my life. It took several years and some painful mistakes to overcome this disease of the mind, but I did. Somehow, I believed that I wasn`t a good person if I didn`t please people. Like everyone, I`ve made mistakes and sometimes even hurt people I didn`t intend to. But I`ve hurt myself and others far more by trying to please people than by not. Herbert Bayard Swope said, "I cannot give you a formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure which is: Try to please everybody." Staying true to yourself isn`t easy, but I think it`s the only way to live. Many people feel shame for no reason other than the misplaced opinion of others. They feel bad because of mistakes they`ve made and because of the "shoulds" of others. Feeling bad doesn`t accomplish anything. Guilt has no virtue. Operating out of obligation and guilt lacks integrity. Don`t do it. I`m not saying that you should (there`s that word again) totally disregard the information and advice put to you. I`m simply suggesting that you evaluate the information, listen carefully to your heart and do what you think is right. Just because someone is a travel agent for guilt trips doesn`t mean we have to buy their tickets. No one can walk in your shoes. No one can live your life. Ultimately, it`s you who must answer to how you have lived. We all need to learn the art of correction without invalidation-to see our errors, learn from them and move on-without self-condemnation. If you feel remorse about something you`ve done or failed to do, take action. If you can make amends, do so. If you can`t, forgive yourself and move on. Vow not to make the same mistake again. If God can forgive you (most religions teach that He does), then you can forgive yourself! Darrell Scott is the father of Rachel Joy Scott, one of the students murdered at Littleton, Colorado's Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Mr. Scott's son, Craig, miraculously survived the massacre, but witnessed as two of his friends were shot to death in the school library. On May 27th, Mr. Scott testified inWashington, DC before the Subcommittee on Crime of the House Judiciary Committee. Following is his statement: Since the dawn of creation there have been both good and evil in the hearts of men and of women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of the heroic teacher and the other children who died, must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA � The National Club Association. The true killer was Cain and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart. In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA, because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore, I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder, I would be their strongest opponent. I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy � it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies. Much of that blame lies here in this room. Much of that blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today: Your laws ignore our deepest needs, Your words are empty air, You've stripped away our heritage, You've outlawed simple prayer, Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die, You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question, "Why?" You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed, And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need! Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our makeup, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual influences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historic fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God and in doing so, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs, politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that continue to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts. Political posturing and restrictive legislation are not the answers. The young people of our nation hold the key. There is a spiritual awakening taking place that will not be squelched! We do not need more religion. We do not need more gaudy television evangelists spewing out verbal religious garbage. We do not need more million-dollar church buildings built while people with basic needs are being ignored. We do need a change of heart and a humble acknowledgment that this nation was founded on the principle of simple trust in God. As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America and around the world to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your conscience and denies your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA, I give to you a sincere challenge: Dare to examine your own heart before you cast the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain. The young people of this country will not allow that to happen. ================================================= Please do not allow Mr. Scott's words to be ignored.
