Through
the Window: An AnthologyThis year I am encouraging my students to do what comes naturally to most fifth graders: look out the window. No, I have not "lost it," (not yet, anyway!). I am using the field that lies outside our classroom as the basis for numerous writing assignments, which are mainly poetic in nature. The results have been impressive and unique as my students have enjoyed personifying the field and objects found in it. Through the Window also refers to those pieces that ask my students to look through that other window, the one each of us has. These pieces are reflections, some personal; others are personal reactions to literature or other elements of the curriculum.
A collection, or anthology of my students' writing, Through the Window, will be professionally published in the spring of 2001, thanks to a PTA mini-grant. Meanwhile, feel free to preview some of the pieces my students have written. I am very proud of them!
