October 10
On this day, the leaves on the trees were magnificent.  I asked the students to look outside and write about what they saw, using similes.
The leaves are as "nana" as Jesse's hair.
The pinecones are as brown
as rusty scrap metal.
The rocks are as hard as strong steel.
The ground is as freezing cold
as liquid nitrogen.
The magnificent leaves make me feel like a louse in someone's hair.

The leaves are like fire flaming red and hot.
The grass is crispy green like a fresh and juicy pickle.
The dirt is as brown as a brown bear, ready to make its worst fight.
The weeds are as tall as the tallest flagpole on Earth.
I feel like a leaf, and I'm as light as a feather

(Katherine)

The leaves are like a fire burning
And dieing from its own heat
The dirt is as polluted as the Blackstone River
The trees are like a giant, standing big and still
The grass is as flat as a piece of paper
Waiting to be written on.

(Jesse)

The cars strategically parked in a row like soldiers at attention,
The clouds are like humongous cotton in the white sky
The trees as mammoth as the largest mansion
The leaves like gold dollars in my palm.
I feel like an author writing one of the best poem books ever.

(Matthew)

The leaves are like a fire just starting to burn red, yellow, orange, green.
The air is as cold and crisp as the snow at the North Pole.
The leaves are as bright as colorful, twinkling Christmas lights.

Out the window the wind crashes against my face like a wave hitting a sandbar.
Out the window the tall grass bow like worshipping a powerful one.
Out the window the grass sits there as if stunned by a spell.
Out the window the Sun shines like a pirate's gold da-blooms.
I am like a bird flying through the air and trees.

(Seamus)

The lanky trees are dazzling like neon lights on a pitch black night in LasVegas, Nevada.
The milky white clouds are like fluffy marshmallows in an aqua cup of hot chocolate.
The withered up grass looks like wavy tan hair,
swaying in the wind.
The dirt looks like chocolate on a hot summer day.
I feel like I'm sitting in front of a fire on a cold winter's night.

(Mark)

The leaves are flying, blowing like birds in the air.
The goals are traps like nets catching bugs.
The rocks are filthy like the muddy ground.
Thr grass is brown and green like the humongous hard trees.
I am tall, just like a fiery tree.

(Renee)

The leaves are golden as the sparkling Sun.
The rocks are as smooth as cement.
The bright sky is as turquoise as the ocean.
The cold air is as freezing as the snow.
The fall makes me feel spooky like the haunted house.
