Chapter 2 Yellow Submarine
Back to "Stories" Page
Rita opened her eyes and found herself sitting on a cornflake which was drifting in the breeze among the clouds. She felt strangely calm and unconcerned. Then off in the distance she spotted a yellow object which seemed to be getting closer. As it approached, she realized that it was a flying yellow submarine. She saw her older sister Pam waving from the window. Pams young husband JoJo was there too. They invited Rita right inside with them. So, what are you doing here, Rita? JoJo asked. I dont know, Rita replied. What are YOU doing here? We dont know, JoJo told her, shrugging his shoulders. Last thing I remember, Pam began. JoJo and I were standing on the street corner by a light pole, hugging each other, when a car came crashing into us. Ritas big blue eyes grew even larger. I was in that car! she gasped. Now I remember! And guess who was driving it! Who? asked Pam. Mum? Rita shook her head. Paul McCartney! she exclaimed. Then added, I wonder if hes okay. Paul McCartney! Pam exclaimed in surprise. How in the world did you manage that? As they ate a dinner of pasta and steamed vegetables, Rita told them all about it. If Pauls not alright, think what a mess this will leave George, Ringo, and John in, JoJo pointed out. Isnt there anything we can do to help? Or at least find out? Rita asked, looking concerned. JoJo shrugged, Id like to, but I dont think theres a way when were stuck up here in the sky like this. The earth is far away from here. Well, its getting late, Pam sighed looked at her watch. Shall we go to bed? Might as well, JoJo replied. Then turning to Rita, he said, Pam and I have found a bedroom just down the hatch. Theres on that you might like, right across the hall. Alright, said Rita. I guess Ill check it out. JoJo led the way and Pam and Rita followed right behind. He opened a door into a small, but pleasant bedroom. Do you like this, Rita? he asked. Its just your style. Its perfect! Rita exclaimed, a delighted smiling spreading across her face. She sat down on the edge of the bed which was covered with a green and purple Tie-Dyed bed spread. She reached over and turned on a lava lamp which sat on the table next to the bed. Now I just wish I had my Beatles records, she said. She walked over to a record player in one corner and began looking through a stack of records. Heres the Rolling Stones, she said. Ill listen to this. Enjoy, JoJo said as he turned to leave. Good night, Rita, Pam smiled, blowing her younger sister a kiss and silently closing the bedroom door. Good night, Rita grinned back at her. Rita discovered a small blue bathroom just off the bedroom. As she stood before the mirror, combing her long, thick hair, she heard the bathroom window opening. She turned quickly and watched in surprise as Paul came in through the bathroom window. Paul! she exclaimed. Where did you come from? I was just outside floating on cloud nine, he answered calmly. Got a bit chilly and decided to come in. Pardon me for barging in on you. I didnt know you were in here. Never mind, Rita smiled. Fortunately I was only brushing my hair. Uh, yeah, Paul said. That IS good. Lets see if we can find a bedroom for you, Rita suggested. Paul and Rita walked down the hall and soon located another bedroom with bright blue, orange, and lime green flowers on the walls. Groovy! Paul said. Like the colors. They said good night and Rita returned to her room. She turned off the lava lamp and record player and fell right to sleep.
