Pilot
1) Backlash Of The Hunter (3/27/74) - Jim Rockford is hired by Lindsay Wagner to investigate the death of her hobo father. Story by John Thomas James, Teleplay by Stephen J. Cannell, Directed by Richard T. Heffron. This pilot is also noteworthy for the fact that a different actor (Robert Donley) played the part of Jim's father Rocky. Available on video.

First Season

2) The Kirkoff Case (9/13/74) Guest stars James Woods as Larry Kirkoff, accused of the double murder of his parents, who hires a skeptical Rockford to clear his name. Available on video.
3) The Dark And Bloody Ground (9/20/74) This episode marked the debut of Grethen Corbett as Jim's lawyer Beth Davenport. Beth's client is accused of murdering her husband, and Jim is called in to investigate.
4) The Countess (9/27/74) A socialite (Susan Strasberg) hires Rockford to catch the thug who
is blackmailing her. When he is murdered, Jim (of course) becomes the prime suspect.
5) Exit Prentiss Carr (10/4/74) An old girlfriend of Jim's hires him to tail her cheatin' husband.
Of course, he turns up dead.
6) Tall Woman In Red Wagon (10/11/74) The "Tall Woman" is a newspaper editor who vanished along with the 1.2 mill she inherited from her gangster boyfriend. Rockford is hired to investigate. More importantly (to me), this marked the first appearance of Rockford's portable printing press he kept in his car to make fake business cards for himself.
7) This Case Is Closed (10/18/74) 90-minute episode. Guest star Sharon Gless. Rockford is hired by a man to investigate his daughter's fiance. Throw mobsters, feds and murder into the mix, and you have a classic Rockford Files episode!
8) The Big Ripoff (10/25/74) A woman hires Rockford to investigate the death of her lover (she suspects his wife). Rockford believes its an insurance scam involving all three. Suzanne Somers (Three's Company) guest stars. Available on video.
9) Find Me If You Can (11/1/74) A woman hires Jim to see if he can "find" her. She is on the run from her mob-boss boyfriend, and wants to know if he can find her. Guest stars Joan Van Ark and Paul Michael Glaser
10) In Pursuit Of Carol Thorne (11/8/74) Rockford is hired by a couple to follow the girlfriend of their son Cliff. There's more than meets the eye, though, because Jim's real client is an ex-partner of Cliff's who wants to know where Cliff and the money they stole together are.
11) The Dexter Crisis (11/15/74) Rockford is hired to find the mistress (Susan) of Charles Dexter (who, unknown to Jim, ran off with $250,000 of Dexter's mullah). His search takes him to Reno, where he finds Susan and another P.I. who has been tailing her.
12) Caledonia - It's Worth A Fortune! (12/6/74) The wife of a convicted embezzler hires Jim to protect her while she searches for her husbands buried treasure with his untrustworthy former cellmate.
13) Profit And Loss: Profit, Part 1 (12/20/74) A computer programmer hires Jim for protection after he discovers his employer, Fiscal Dynamics, has been fudging info on its annual report, and fears for his life.
14) Profit And Loss: Loss, Part 2 (12/27/74)
15) Aura Lee, Farewell (1/3/75) Lindsey Wagner reprises her role from the pilot movie. Here, she hires Jim to investigate the "suicide" of her roommate Aura Lee. The mystery of her death involves a State Senator (Robert Webber). One of my favorite episodes.
16) Sleight Of Hand (1/17/75) Rockford investigates the disappearance of his girlfriend and her daughter. Guest stars Gerald McRaney
17) Counter Gambit (1/24/75) Edgar Burch hires Rockford to find a stolen pearl necklace. Except the pearls really weren't stolen, someone named Williams hired Burch to hire Rockford so that he (Williams) can really steal the pearls and pin in on Rockford. Got it? Guest stars M. Emmet Walsh
18) Claire (1/31/75) Rockford is hired by his former fiancee Claire (Linda Evans) to find the missing undercover cop who used her as an informant on a case. When the cop turns up dead, Claire is the prime suspect, but is also wanted by the real killers who kidnap Rocky until Jim turns Claire over to them.
19) Say Goodbye To Jennifer (2/7/75) The death of a supermodel (who was the suspect in her boyfriend's shooting death) is investigated by Jim after her former photographer hires him in the belief that she is still alive and hiding out in Seattle. Guest stars Hector Elizondo
20) Charlie Harris At Large (2/14/75) A former cellmate of Rockford's is suspected of killing his socialite wife. Rockford to the rescue!
21) The Four Pound Brick (2/21/75) Rockford investigates the mysterious death of the son of a long-time friend of Rocky's.
22) Just By Accident (2/28/75) The mother of a demolition derby driver hires Jim to look into the accident that killed her son. What he discovers is a life insurance scam that threatens his own life. Guest stars Gordon Jump.
23) Roundabout (3/7/75) Rockford is hired to deliver a $10,000 life insurance check to Nancy Wade in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, her manager of the club she works in has been using her money to fund his own illegal activities. When Rockford is attacked and robbed of the insurance check, he schemes to get it back.

Second Season

24) The Aaron Ironwood School Of Success (9/12/75) Rockford agrees to run the company of an old family friend temporarily. Of course the company is a scam, and Jim has been had; which he realizes when federal agents and mobsters start coming around.
25) The Farnsworth Stratagem (9/19/75) Becker and wife Peggy buy into a hotel resort for $7,500. Turns out they were scammed—there is no hotel. Jim to the rescue! Guest stars Linda Evans and Gerald McRaney
26) The Gearjammers, Part 1 (9/26/75) Without even realizing it, Rocky witnesses a dirty deal between a trucker friend of his and his boss (Hammel) which involves a plan to hijack six of his own trucks. Now Hammel want Rocky dead. Jim to the rescue!
27) The Gearjammers, Part 2 (10/3/75) See above
28) The Deep Blue Sleep (10/10/75) A fashion model who is a good friend of Beth's dies in a car crash, and Beth suspects foul play, although the police believe it was an accident or suicide. She hires Jim to investigate.
