First
let me start by saying that my life started out rougher, than most. At the age
of twelve, my mother died, I was on my own. I really had no concept of what it
meant to have a future. In 1990, I met a beautiful black and tan hound dog, at a
shelter. I struggled with the decision, as I could barely take care of myself,
but I felt that we had to be together.I adopted him, and named him "Leadbelly".
We were together through thick and thin, and had years of incredible adventures.
By loving and caring for him, I was able to learn to love, and care for myself.
At one point, I realized that I could not keep him safe, living that chaotic
life. After a lifetime of my own struggles, I was not willing to live that way
any more. I could not stand the thought of losing Leadbelly. For many years now,
I have lived in a house in Bernal heights, with Leadbelly, who got
somewhat
FAT, and (just a little bit) spoiled.. I am so thankful for his soft, sweet
presence in my life.
Leadbelly, My friend. You have taught me things, I
could never explain to another person, that have enabled me to live my life with
compassion, patience, and so much love..
In the eyes of each dog that is
rescued from being euthanized at the shelter, I see the light, and sparkle of
the gifts that you left me with.
This website is dedicated to the memory of my friend,
Leadbelly.
