"Affluence separates people.
Poverty knits 'em together. You got some sugar and I don't; I borrow some
of yours. Next month you might not have any flour; well, I'll give
you some of mine." - Ray Charles
Start a website to inform people about poverty. You
can use
geocities.com,
tripod.com,
or any other place to host your site. Maybe your
friend has a website and can host yours!
Donate food, clothes, money. You can donate to the
Salvation Army.
Start a canned food drive.
Start a club in your school. You and members can
talk about the importance of poverty and create actions and take them!
Write to the government. You can write to the Mayor or
Senator of your town/city/state, the President, or any other ruler of your
country. Tell them why you think poverty is an important issue, how it can be stopped,
and why we need their help.
Add the
Make Poverty History banner to your website.
You can customize it by changing "left" to "right"
and/or "big" to "small".
Buy a white band to raise awareness. The bands are
like the Lance Armstrong LiveStrong bracelets, made of silicon. You can order
bands at
WhiteBand.org or for the UK at
World Development
Movement.
Remember that all these actions will
take time and effort. The more you take them and the more people you get involved,
the more you help reduce poverty.
