THE MOZAMBIQUE YACH CHARTER EXPERIENCE

INTRODUCTION

Sailing on our 37ft Catamaran with four double beds, two single beds, two bathrooms, gallay and saloon is a unique holiday experience for those with a sense of adventure and those who wish to get away from it all.  The cruise set sail from Maputo to the inviting Inhaca and Portuguese islands as well as Santa Maria.  This holiday may be tailored to meet your group's requirements.  Enjoy sailing in light breezes while enjoying amazing sunsets with sundowners in hand.   For the more adventurous, there are a range of water sports and Islands explorations awaiting you.

Guaranteed diving : 10 Dive sites available.

Night Diving  : Wreck Diving : Drift Diving : Deep Diving : Shark Diving.

2.SNORKLING

3 X Shallow easily accessible Marine Reserves with ideal conditions for even the novice.

3.FISHING

Big Game Fishing (by prior arrangement) : Game Fishing : Bottom Sea Fishing : Fly Fishing : Spear Fishing.

4.SAILING

5.HIKING AND ISLAND EXPLORATION

Hiking : Bird watching : Mangrove Swamp : Biological/Marine Museum : Local Fishing Village : International Hotel.

THE MENU

Below is a selection of proposed meals, subject to availability and weather conditions.  Special requirements e.g. allergies, must be indicated with booking.   In addition guests should bring along snacks and soft or alcoholic drinks of their choice.

1.BREAKFAST

Cereals : English Breakfast : Tea or coffee and rusks

2.LUNCH

Lunches will be light tasty snacks, such as

Sandwiches (cheese, ham, salami, tomato, onion, cucumber.)

Hot dogs : Boerewors rolls : Hamburgers : Savory biscuits topped with various tasties.

3.EVENING MEALS

Dinner will be served on deck under the stars.  Menu's will be as listed below or similar.

Prawns - Served with Peri Peri, Lemon or Garlicc butter. Spiced rice. Salad.

Beef steaks - Maize meal with tomato and onion sauce. Salad.

Barbecued - Catch of the day. Savory rice. Salad.<

Butterfly Chicken. Mashed potato. Grilled sweet potato. Whole BBQ onions. Salad.

LUGGAGE

Bathing Costumes : Short and long pants e.g. jeans : Long sleeved shirt and T-shirts : Jersey and waterproof Jackets/wind breaker : Hat or cap and sun glasses : Two towels : Shoes/sneakers and sandals/slops : Personal items.   Space on board is limited, please keep this in mind when packing.     Try to use collapsible suitcases.    Rigid suitcases are difficult to store.

LINEN

Linen is provided with the exception of towels - NO TOWELS ARE PROVIDED.

MEDICATION

Remember your personal chronic medication : Included appropriate anti Malaria prophylactics : Mosquito repellent :

Motion sickness prophylactics : Medication in case of excessive sun burn.

DRINKS

Tea, coffee water and ice is available.  Please supply your own soft and alcoholic beverages and you're favorite snacks and sweet.  In Maputo, imported alcohol is expensive, while local is cheaper, but limited in variety.  

MAPUTO

The first and last day can be spent in Maputo, Capital City of Mozambique, previously known as Lourenço Marques.  A third world city where the now sadly neglected stately Portuguese homes, still with their characteristic tile work in place, form a backdrop to the extensive shanty dwellings.   A city of contrasts.  Places of interest to see in Maputo are all within a 5km radius where the catamarans are moored.

THE FISH MARKET - Stroll around the market selecting from the wide selection of fish, which you can have cooked in the facilities right next door.

POLANA HOTEL - Sip cocktails around the pool in the tropical sun.

THE OPEN AIR MARKETS - Wander through and be fascinated by the local crafts. 

JULIUS NYERE AVENUE - Side walk cafes, a reminder of the cosmopolitan flavor of Lourençe Marques, is once again mushrooming.

CURRENCY

Local currency is Meticais. The exchange rate fluctuates but a good yard stick is R1.00 = 2,300 MZM.   However most places accept Rands and Dollars.

HOW TO GET THERE

All foreigners require a visa before departure.   Visas can be obtained from the Mozambique Embassy in South Africa, Pretoria. - Telephone number (012) 343 1653.  All application must be accompanied by two ID photos and a photocopy of the first two pages of your passport.

ROAD TRAVEL

Maputo is approxamately 500 Km from Pretoria / Johannesburg area. With a tar road the entire distance.  The distance from the boarder (Komatipoort) to the Yacht in Maputo is approx. 95 Km. The new road is in very good condition.  The road is guarded by government troops.  Do not be alarmed, they are there for your safety.  Speeding is an offence which is payable on the spot drive slowly.   A Toll fee of 33,000 MZM is payable at Moamba and 7,500 MZM at Maputo Toll Plaza.   Parking for guests is available.   We have never experienced any theft of vehicles from this parking area, however we do not accept any responsibilities for vehicles.   Please insure your vehicle is insured for neighboring countries.

TO PASS THROUGH THE BORDER YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS

1.Passport with valid visa for each person.

2.Original car registration forms.

3.Original registration forms for trailer.

4.Drivers license or ID documents with drivers license for driver.

COST TO GET THROUGH THE BORDER INTO MOZAMBIQUE (2001)

R 12.00 (in Rands) per person on the Mozambique side of the border.

25,000 MZM per car (Money can be changed at the entrance to the South African border).

R85.00 for compulsory 3rd party insurance (Payable in Rands at the Mozambique Border).

Please insure that you keep you documents with you at all times as they are presentable on request at road blocks.
