My one night stay in Munich was followed by a 3 night stay in Garmish Partenkirchen. Original I wanted to stay in Mittelwald but this tiny village had no rooms available for me. To say it honestly Garmish Partenkirchen was more like a town with wide tourist investments. Its area is beautifull surrounding by huge mountains, nature, woods and great views. Unfortunately my view was limited since it was cloudly and I even had rain. My Gasthof was not really an attraction although it was good situated near the centre and quiet. My room was horrible and small. I fitted in the bed but not in the room, I couldn't stand up straight. Only space was near the window. I even made a booking telling them that I was huge and they located me on "top floor". Anyway, I wanted to see the mountains but decided that it was too cloudy to travel up by cable car. The cable cars were expensive, The Zug Spitze would have cost me around Euro 35,-- return trip. Was not worth it since there was no view up there. I spend my day mostly in Munich, since you could travel quite cheap by German Railways for only DM 40,-- a day or a little more in the week. It was not very good on budget so I had to cut back later that trip. I was no big fan of the Gay nightlife in Munich so I only took a lunch at "Der Deutsche Eiche" which was in the direct area of The Sendlinger Tor. Other suggestions are a bit difficult since they do not match to the scene but Munich is like a big shopping mall of male persons. I do remember a bar called Forum sowhere in the city but I don't recall the streetname. (usefull he?) I headed for Vienna after 4 days Bavaria and travelled via Innsbruck to Vienna West station. It was quiet a long trip which I mostly spend in the company of another guy which was clearly belonging to the club. He was quiet interesting but more to what he eat as one package after another was entering the desk. The trip was long so I finally entered Vienna around five in the afternoon. I had booked at the time a youth hostel a little outside the center and how closer I came to Vienna how less I felt to go to this hostel. So, I went straight in to the tourist office and told the lady I was able to spend ATS 500 / Euro 36 on a room per night BB, within 2 minutes she found me a summer hotel on Margarethenstrasse, Great! Located only minutes from the Opera and with my own tv-set and shower, it was more then I hoped for. I spend my days in Vienna with walking, shopping, internet surfing and relaxing. If you want to go to nice shops, bars etc I might have some tips. In the city center you have the Kaerntenstreet which leads from the Opera to the Stephansdom. Just right before the Dom you have a street (Weihburgergasse) which leads to the Franziscaner Church which is beautifull and it is the church where the formal Royal Family is still getting married. In front of the church you have a little square with a bar called Cafe Klein, it is real Viennese and the kitchen is small but excellent. In the street between the church and Karntenstreet are located you'll find some small restaurants and one art shop where they sell nice stuff. The same street offers you one of Vienna famoust hotels, "Kaiserin Elisabeth Hotel". At the other side of the center you find the area of the Mariahilferstrasse with all his shops and down the little streets and allees you find stuff like the Bar X, which is a gay bar or My Way which a lesbian bar. The street parrallel with Mariahilfer street is the Gumpendorferstreet with small second hand shops in books, cd, dvd etc. Down the hill you end up at the Nashmarket where I believe it is never one day quiet. At the Nashmarket you have the Savoy bar and Mango bar and the very exclusive Graefin of Nashmarkt which prices are very high for Austrian standards. Near the Hundertwasser house I discovered in the inner Danube canal which was world news when they discovered an small alligator several days earlier. I think it was the first day that my skin changed to a brown colour and I nearly got lossed. At the Hundertwasser House you can find a nice shopping mall in the style of the House where I found a little shop selling printing t-shirts of Vienna. In Vienna I met up with Marcin, who spend with me one week in the south of Austria, Carinthia. |
