Summer vacation 2001.

Time for new entry. As you might have noticed I am not very good at
writing diaries, never have been. Tryed when I was younger, don't think it
lastes too long. Perhaps you have to be American for that or be some sort
of high religion education to have to the spirit to keep that up. Well, I
will surely try to update my entries once a month, as long as time we be
available.

Just returned from my 4 weeks trip to Germany & Austria. Let say it was
quite a long trip which cost me a small fortune but I had a lot of fun,
renewed friendships and even made new ones. I started off in August when
I headed to Coburg (Germany), to visit my dear friend M., we know
eachother for more than 8 years now but hadn't met in the last 6 years.
She was either too busy or I didn't have time or money to come down. We
spend two days together which was way too less off course. Talking about
both our lives and taking long walks as she took care of a dog in

the neighbourhood, so we wondered through woods, land and hills. Lots of
eating of course, this is Germany and they have 3 meals a day at least.
Strangely we haven't been in Coburg itself only in the surrounding. My
stay was it this little "Gasthof" in Gmunda (near Coburg) where I had a
double bed to my disposal. It was not easy to get used to get up early in
the morning but the breakfast was huge knowing that I only paid DM 35,--/
Euro 17.-- a night.
After we made a small visit to Lichtenfels, we headed for Staffelberg, a
hospital which like a revalidation village complete with church, shops,
bar, park etc. It was created more than 60 years ago and its situated
amazingly on top of a mountain/ hill with a overview over the complete
area. On our last day we floated through the area and visited these two
church complexes. Amazing how huge they are, just  take a look at the
pictures, above in the left chapter photo.
I headed for Munich next. My weather was changing and they forcasted rain
for a couple days now but I only saw clouds. Not very amused by this
forcast as I was heading for the mountains (Zugspitz area). Since I was
travelling with my Nomad Rider 70 Backpack I was always glad if I had no
rain to cope with. I stayed one night at hotel
Holiday Inn Munich City
Nord
at Leopoldstreet, quite a bit out of the center. I was extremely
lucky when I arrived in the hotel since only 15 minutes later a tropical
storm visited Munich. Two of the sun screens in the front of the hotel
made a single trip to the roof. There was even snow and a lot of wind.

I stayed in Munich only for one day but it was longer in the city
since  my stay in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was hardly a succes. When I left
my Munich hotel after one hour, the temperature had dropped by 12 degrees and ithere  was water everywhere and off course..... I had no umbrella with me.... Munich
will not be one of my favourites, the city is big and nightlife is to much in the closet . I can't even say  that I have seen nice bars or restaurants which I liked. So no recomanditions here, except for the Forumbar, don' t ask me which address..
