Kosrae
is at 163 degrees East and 5 degrees North.
It is a high island covered with dense jungle.
The lush green interior is surrounded by a fringing reef.
There are several white coral beaches around the island’s rim. The
interior of the island is characterized by high, steep, rugged mountains rising
to over 2000 feet at Mt. Finkol. A
dense tropical rainforest covers the interior.
Mountains account for 70% of the total land area, so virtually all of the
population (approximately 8,000) lives in five coastal villages.
