"RUN LOLA RUN"
What's It About: Lola receives a frantic phonecall from her boyfriend Manni about how he has to get 100,000 marks in 20 minutes. Lola is ihis last hope and dahses off in search of the money.
Why Is It So Good? The film is practiacally flawless, except to say I wish it was much longer. At 77 minutes this is an unmercifully short but utterly brilliant movie experience that flies across the screen like electricity through the brain. It's rare that you find faults with films, this is one of them. The pounding soundtrack thunders alongside the gliding camerawork keeping up with Lola all the way. There is something so endearing and fierce about Franka Pontente, you can't help cheering the European ritual of spot-on casting. Like Amelie, she is the character she plays and you should love her to bits. Lola has fiery red hair, she runs like a champ, she is not unattractive and shows terrific loyalty and vulnerablity towards her boyfriend. The rest of the cast are playing characters to contribute to Lola's narrative, and they do their job too with splendid style. Tom Tykwer surely had a field day writing and directing this little gem. |
