Maid Marian and her Merry Men Series 1 DVD is being released on the 6th March 2006. So far, Virgin and Tesco have listed it on their websites as being available for preorder. Series 2 and 3 will be released later this year and 4 is expected to be released in 2007.
14th October 2001
Conclusion 2001, What a year, we last saw "Maid Marian" in 1994 when perhaps we were entering our teens. I guess we thought there'd be another series, but the years went by and we barely noticed it's absence.
Except for some of us, for whom the yearning to see MM again was too great. Didn't it seem unreasonable that the BBC wouldn't show it again? Like many of you, I found 'Barrington's Site' on the net. But I was frustrated that it wasn't updated and I set up 'Robin's Pages' in 2000.
In the original community forum, 'Barrington's Guestbook' there were two pressing issues to be dealt with. The first was the availability of videos, the challenge that I took on. I hope I've clarifyed the most common question and that the sources I've published Amazon & Blackstar are reliable.
The second issue was going to be much more difficult. Getting Marian repeated certainly had considerable support in the forum, and it was just directing that energy in the right direction. Countless e-mails must have headed in the BBC's direction when in March 2001 it was announced we had won the battle.
Mark Billingham via the new 'Keith's Site' message board kind of broke the news in the Marian community I think. Soon after I sent a considerable e-mail in early March, repeats were announced. I can only say that it's quite a coincidence, rather than take credit for all the diligent fans who e-mailed also.
I knew then, the next thing for the Marian web community would be those unforgettable songs. I needed someone to record them, I needed someone and pretty soon. I had one offer, but then e-mails were not returned. The next offer came from Keith and since the repeats began in late April, his site's accumulated more hits than my own.
Deservedly so, because it's been very difficult legally to host the songs. If I were to even link to his songs, Geocities would soon shut me down.
Anyway, with the songs came the screenshots, of which there were many. It's things like those that have almost replaced the original 'Barrington's Site' as the premier MM site. But how should the fans energy be harnessed now?
I've often thought of DVDs, but perhaps this probably wouldn't be profitable enough for the BBC. Some people creatively illustrate and write their own MM.
Many think the way forward is a new series, but not me. I'm kinda content with seeing MM again after 7 years and I'm sure some fans feel some kind of closure too.
I'm moving on but if the BBC make the same mistake and need a little reminding, I'll be there again in 7 years time.

someone who'll fight for the people's rights and set all the people free." Mud
"Goodness me Graeme, look at that disgusting old tramp, didn't he used to be someone years ago?"
"Yes sire, but no-one remembers him now..."

Thanks to Jo, Keith and Jayne for contributing to "The Worksop Fashion Show". Thanks to all the visitors to this site.
I think I can bear to stop updating this now so this site is now "closed".
I'll still pick up e-mails and reply and I'll leave this site online. Other than that, take care Marianites.

This week Marcus Brigstocke's "We are History" is entitled the Real Robin Hood. He's quite funny.
Also, Did you dislike the 100 Greatest Childrens Television Programmes? If so, then visit Watched It!
I've decided to host the Fan Fiction Episode The Worksop Fashion Show myself, get downloading it.
15th September
You want new episodes? Well here's one, kind of, The Worksop Fashion Show. I'm working on some pictures for it.
You want addresses? You got addresses;
BBC Comments is the page to have your say. You are required to fill in fields about you and your remark in some detail.
BBC World may be more relevant for those requesting videos.
Children's BBC is the next most relevant link. I think their e-mail address is [email protected].
Points of View will accept your comments, but, I don't know when it will be next on television.
Chatterbox (Ceefax Page 591) is about TV. They can only show them if you leave your real name, nearest town and contact number. Keep them no longer than 40 words and new comments will appear at 4pm daily.
Backchat (Ceefax Page 503) is for kids. Keep your comments no longer than 40 words and leave your name, age and address. Unfortunately I can't remember when Backchat is updated, most likely daily.
Radio Times is a magazine which may be owned by the BBC.
Here's a Scottish postal address I saw recently, but I'll find an English one soon.
BBC TV, PO BOX 1922, GLASGOW, GT 3WT

It's not often I update when I'm online but I'm pleased to have prompted debate on the subject of a new series. I'm open minded and I'm interested in what you've got to say.
Who knows, I might even change my mind. So, I'd certainly recommend reading Alice's article For and Verity's article For a new series. Thanks for the responses Marianites.
8th September
I still can't guarantee this site won't just stop. But nevertheless, Keith's site's back on top. Series 4 songs can be downloaded.
I know it's a bit late, but, on Friday Marianites were to e-mail CBBC for the missing 7 episodes at [email protected].
7th September
Marian fans may wish to visit the "Merry Map" and add themselves. (Pictured right) It's actually quite a good idea.
Also click here for a short article on whether there should be a new series of "Maid Marian and her Merry Men".
It's nice to know that the repeats were popular enough to have them reconsider new episodes.
Here's that Episode Guide I promised weeks ago. It's only a first draft and it's ~50Kb if you want to download it.
Genuine moments of hilarity in MM. In Raining Forks Guy says "I'm not a bush, I'm me" and Wayne Morris is clearly trying to suppress laughter.
At the end of Driving Ambition everyone finds this hilarious, but I think it's Ramsey Gilderdale who has to turn away from the camera through laughing.

Right, unfortunately "Robin's Pages" is going to go offline for at least a week. The bad news is that this may have some degree of permanence. This is because I am going to be particularly busy in the coming week.
Also perhaps there's not much more to say about "Maid Marian". Don't worry, this site will still be available for reference and I will still read and reply to my e-mails. I am also busy working on a new (unrelated) website, The Lucan Review.

21 was were Maid Marian and her Merry Men was placed in the 100 Greatest Kids' Shows. Vernon Kaye said it was great. But they could have shown a funnier clip as with most of the shows they had on there. Channel 4's website does incorrectly place it at 15, but a correct rundown can be found at TV Themes.
27th August
I've just read the funniest "Maid Marian" story. Here it is slightly edited;
"I'm quite distressed. So far, I've managed to record every single "Maid Marian" episode - they're my prized possessions. Then, on Friday night, fuelled by alcohol, I decided to watch the videos. However, I drunkenly fell off my bed whilst holding the tape (don't ask exactly how, because I'm not sure). I damaged my hip quite badly, but worse still, on waking up I discovered that I had torn the tape! I'm sure you can sense my angst. Does anyone know of a company or something that will fix broken tapes? please?"
Posted by Agnes O Daff on Barrington's Guestbook on August 22nd.

Here's a rundown of all the Maid Marian and her Merry Men episodes the BBC won't show this time around.
Series One - Robert the Incredible Chicken, A Game called John, The Miracle of St. Charlene, The Sharp End of a Cow, The Whitish Knight
Series Four - The Wise Woman of Worksop and Voyage to the Bottom of the Forest
Total: 7 episodes, roughly 175mins!
17th August
Benjamin John Evans ("Barrington") has signed his guestbook and says he'll update his site, finally. Keith tells us to visit http://166.90.143.156:9152 for something, Marian radio perhaps?
16th August
News just in, Keith wrote on his site that it has been shut down! Here's what he said;
"Hello Maid Marian fans, I received an email on 15th of August from fortunecity (my server). I regret to inform you that my site has been unfairly deleted as it contained mp3 files. Although these mp3 files do not in my view violate any copyright laws, fortunecity viewed them as pirate software. This is not the first time my site has been deleted and I have had many troubles getting it established. This time though I cannot see a way round it, the site is very large now so I would have to pay to stop ignorant people deleting it again. Keith's Maid Marian site may return in the future, but I doubt it. Thanks for your support, I will be appealing to fortunecity, if you would like to pledge your support then email me"
Hope all Marianites taking A-Levels got good results, I certainly did. Series 4 really is a new level. Rumour is Wise Woman of Worksop won't be shown.
Keith's website really is going from strength to strength. He reports upcoming an episode guide, more info on the stage play and web radio (ambitious).
If you haven't visited the Eps/Sounds/Pics section, do so now!
Apologies to all those who registered at BBC LiveChat but the online chat with Ramsey Gilderdale has been called off.
Optimistically, you could say it's being postponed indefinitely. Oh and also, Blackadder's on DVD.
11th August
Gary & Graeme were on CBBC. The Celebrity Chat with Guy of Gisborne is off, deceased, no more. I couldn't find a website willing to host it.
5th August
Prior to "Tunnel Vision" which was rather funny, was Danny John-Jules aka Barrington on CBBC!
Did you know there actually was a Much the Mini Mart Manager's Son? Well, actually Much the Miller's Son according to the Real Robin Hood site.
There's a "How the Band Got Together" video for 8.95 from Funny.co.uk which I found recently.
Aesthetic improvements include more Maid Marian
Links and links which change colour when you move the mouse over them.
1st August
There's a week-long Robin Hood Festival beginning today at Sherwood Forest Country Park and Visitor Centre, Edwinstowe, Notts.
28th July
Quieting Down? LIVENING UP more like! Here is the dirt. Thanks to Keith for, what is now, an incredible site, marred only by difficult downloading (or is that just me?). But enough of that, I've nearly finished revising Barrington's episode guide, which you'll be able to see in about a week. Preview Below.
All I can say at the moment is there's been frustrating delays to a possible BBC LiveChat. It looks likely it'll be August if at all.
Much the Mini Mart Manager's Son
Part One
broadcast July 20, 2001 (25 min. episode)
After his tap-dancing lesson, Robin foolishly reveals his identity to the Sheriff, but Much (the Mini Mart Manager's son) has
a word and persuades the Sheriff to disperse his guards. Marian is further unimpressed at Much's manipulation of the peasants
fear of "the Giant Toad Monster of Stoke-on-Trent" to sell tacky toys. When Guy threatens to leave, King John
promises to catch Robin Hood and his gang for him if they could only strengthen their forces.
17th July
Looking forward to series four? I'm finding it hard to update this with any news but rest assured there will be regular updates. Newsflash - I've been bursting to say; Rumours are abound that there will be a BBC LiveChat in late July with a certain Maid Marian Star!
Meanwhile, Back at the Batcave - David Lloyd has hinted that "Series 4 Episode 4 The Wise Woman of Worksop" will be cut due to Linda McCartney's death, and according to Keith, the song Pixie Paul will be entirely edited out.
So, can all fans register at BBC LiveChat ready for the chat please!!!
6th July
OK, here's the latest, Jo's got a Maid Marian Chatroom. I have very comprehensive lyrics links, I may even set up a seperate page. I have over 500 hits. Robin and Rabies discussed the 'Prince of Thieves' film in the last episode.
Reminder: Don't Post Twice on Barrington's Guestbook!
1st July
Enjoy the Summer Marianites, but still visit my site. Incidentally this site is not dead yet, indeed my plans to move house may have fallen through. Please stay tuned, because I have the biggest, best Marian suprise up my sleeve, Guaranteed! I'll tell you in July.
27th June
I e-mailed CBBC to say the kids singing along to Maid Marian is awful. They should get a professional choir in or just leave it. Also visit Paul Cemmick's website, the illustrator for Marian comics you may remember from Young Telegraph.
23rd June
Vote for Maid Marian in Channel 4's Top 100 Kids Shows now! It's a programme to be screened after this summer and it may have Marian stars talking about it (Kate, Wayne, Danny, Ramsey, David).
Wasn't 'Keeping Mum' a good episode, next week it's 'They came from Outer Space' with the song 'Only Child'. Guy's added my link to his site. I'm going to e-mail CBBC to say the children singing is awful and to get the professional choir in instead, or they could just leave the theme tune. Finally I've got a big suprise about "Maid Marian" this summer.
14th June
Fight, Fight, Fight! (kidding). Sorry about that Jo! If you've been watching Barrington's Guestbook you'll know there was a bit of friction recently. I've now seen Corrina's plea for Guy information and Jo's response. I suppose I'm flattered you got Guy's address off my site, it's just I've got exams and I'm a bit stressed. Thanks for saying my site's a good site and that you'll keep my link up there, I'm grateful. Notice a link to your site above.
In reply to a recent e-mail, the DVDs detailed on this site are just wishful thinking and a possible plan for anyone wanting to make some themselves.
But you could always ask BBC Shop to make some.
9th June
Lot's of news lately; Labour won for one. I noticed a PC system with a DVD rewriter in PC World for 1500, perhaps a way to get Marian onto DVD.
Ramsey Gilderdale aka Guy of Gisborne promptly replied to one of my e-mails mentioning he'll have a new site soon, Marian's almost got better ratings than Crossroads (current showings) and that he'd like Marian on a Sunday at 5pm. I completely agree!
I hope everyone's looking forward to Series 3, The Big Baby. Note this didn't come on until 1993, 2 years after Series 2. Also Keith's got a new address, it's www.maidmarian.n3.net . Finally, I may not be running this site by the end of this year as I'm leaving home and won't take my computer. I know I could carry on the site but I may be doing other things. But, don't worry, if that's the case, I'll hand it over to another fan.
2nd June
Danny John-Jules aka Barrington is going to be in Red Dwarf the Movie as Cat after he's filmed Blade 2. To my complete surprise I found Tony Robinson the other day. My local MP and him presented a 15min video I'd received from Labour. I was a bit disappointed, as I think everyone should vote Liberal Democrats!
I noticed they trailed Rotten Rose Part 2.
27th May
Unofficial Wayne Morris aka Robin Site and official David Lloyd aka Graeme's site are in the links and here's the video cover of 'how the band got together' in the USA (see Vids). Kerry Potter who played Nettle, I mistakenly thought was Carly Britnell as Hayley in Marian series 3 episode 4 They Came from outer space as in Hayley's Vomit.
One more episode (Rotten Rose Part 2) and I'll have all of series 2 on video and could transfer it to DVD but the quality wouldn't be good enough. I still need the questions put to Kate Lonergan when she was in the CBBC studio.
Meanwhile, head over to http://www.tellytunes.fsnet.co.uk/tvads.htm for Weetabix's Robin Hood song that you may remember from the advert.
23rd May
Good luck to any Marian fans with exams coming up. I've got some myself. Finest moment of 'Rabies in Love' was Robin using his chat-up technique on Marian! Anyone see Tony Robinson on Trigger Happy TV, No, it was rubbish. I know it was 1991, but, Rabies appeared in Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves.(ironic!)
14th May
'How the band got together' has a different cover in the US! 'Marian' was filmed it at Exmoor National Forest and was also shown in Germany I think. This Friday it's 'Rabies in Love'. I have to say Kate looked stunning on Friday, she had brown hair (!), was wearing a long dark blue dress, and doesn't look a day older since filming 'Marian'. Here's what she had to say at 5.25
Angelica: They saved the chicken, they were great weren't they?
Kate: Yeah, all in a days freedom-fighting you know!
Angelica: Now Kate we have loads of e-mails saying that we talk over the credits, not the credits you're hearing now, the special colin one, the usual song.
Kate: the Maid Marian song.
Angelica: Yeah the Maid Marian song everyone loves, so we're running a competition were you guys, someone live, will be singing the song next week.
... Jess (caller when asked what she loves about the Marian song): I just like the characters and it's one of the funniest programmes I know.
Kate: Yeah she's quite right
... Kate: Lots of love to Libby, Josh and Louie.
Perhaps this is her children. HELP, can anyone tell me the questions put to Kate at 4.40 as I missed these, they may be on the CBBC website.
Maid Marian and her Merry Men Series 1 DVD is being released on the 6th March 2006. So far, Virgin and Tesco have listed it on their websites as being available for preorder. Series 2 and 3 will be released later this year and 4 is expected to be released in 2007.

Well, lots of fans think there should be, but, I, for one, disagree. First of all, Maid Marian ran from 1989 to 1994 (5 years) and 25 episodes. This is an entirely satisfactory lifespan, indeed, it exceeds many great TV shows. Fawlty Towers is undoubtedly a classic and only ran for 12 episodes. It can be a matter of resisting the tempation to make new episodes. Or else, risk tarnishing the reputation of a great show. Only Fools and Horses was no longer funny by the 1990s. One comparison is with Trigger Happy TV which Dom Joly admirably stopped making (leave 'em wanting more). If the BBC are seriously considering reviving MM then it's because they haven't got good new children's shows. Why? because they can't make good ones and they'd similarly harm MM. The problem with childrens TV is it's too childish and children in their teens watch adult programmes. This didn't happen with MM because it treated children like adults. The BBC are too politically correct now and I don't suppose would allow such jokes as "Gary: Look, a big black geezer; Barrington: No I'm over here man" It was relevant to the early 1990s too, I always saw Marian as part of the feminist movement. And mention of Chronic the Hedgehog and Dungeons and Dragons would no doubt be shamelessly updated to suit the present day. It's not that it's out of date, it shouldn't be, just because it was topical. But when people look back on it, they should have to take into account that it was made in the early 1990s.
Then there's the practical problems. Would Marian, Robin, Barrington, Rabies and Little Ron agree to star in further episodes? King John, the Sheriff, Gary & Graeme could also be said to be essential. Would you still want Rose, Guy, Snooker and Gladys in it too? The last thing I want to see
is pathetic new characters brought in to liven up the story. Worst of all, I'd hate to see a new actor playing an old character. To be controversial, I'd say MM peaked in Series 3. But I'm more than content with all of Series 4, I just wouldn't like to see anymore. So, is there a future for MM?
Well, yes, the BBC could start by showing the missing 7 episodes. Next, as often stated, the BBC should release a cassette and CD with all the songs on (you can fit them all on btw). And most obviously, all of the videos, and would DVDs be too much to ask?
If there still is the desire to write more material, then restrict it to publishing on the net or on a DVD or an animated series.

For (08/09/01)
I can't see why one or two of you don't want a new series, the first ones will always be brilliant because they can't "ruin" them. It was a super idea for a programme, so why shouldn't they do more with it ? Would you really prefer for it to just get forgotten about all over again? (I know I had completely forgotten how good it was) There are a lot of younger kids out there who deserve a good programme like "Maid Marian" to watch, instead of having to sit through things like "Miami 7" and "Starstreet". They could take the mickey out of things like "Pokmon" cards etc. the same way they did with things like "Sonic the Hedgehog". It would be sooo good. I think that you are being a bit selfish wanting to keep such a cool show to yourself and your generation. Maybe you wouldn't enjoy a new series if it was brought up to date. But, I can promise you that me and my merry friends over at keith's message board (you know who you are) and thousands of kids all over the country would appreciate more "Maid Marian"!

For (08/09/01)
There has been a bit of debate about a new series. Personally, I would like to see one - and there are many reasons for this. I must admit it's part greed - I just need more, more, MORE! But it's also because I think that children's' TV has faced such a downturn recently, and at least a new MM would bring one great show back on the box. Also, I'm basically very curious to see what a new series would be like, nine/ten years on. We couldn't ever imagine it, so making it is the only way we'll ever know! I don't think Tony Robinson would allow MM to dumb down, ever.
Here's another thing, though. We should all accept that there are people - and I'm talking about dedicated fans - who don't want the show to return, probably because they feel it belongs to the time it was made. And let's face it, times have changed a lot! If it turns out that there are any (main) actors from the show who also feel this way and wouldn't want to be part of a new series, then I don't think the BBC should continue it.
I feel that there should be a series 5 as long as the cast stays the same, and as long as Tony Robinson is given all the freedom he needs to make the show as great as only he can do it. It would be awful if the BBC tried to change things, reducing the quality of the programme. I suspect that, even in the last few years, rules and regulations will have tightened up a lot, but I hope that this wouldn't be of any threat to a new series of MM.
Ideally, It would have been fantastic if it had just carried on (as the theme song tells us!) in 1995 or the year after. Series 4 was perhaps the strongest of them all, so great in fact that when I saw 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Forest' for the first time, knowing that it was the last in the series, I thought to myself: "They'll do another one soon, surely!" I waited and waited...
Years later...
I was reading some 'millennium' article thingy in the Radio Times about a year and a half ago which was charting landmarks in Television. Maid Marian was mentioned, and below it read "1989 - 1994". It dawned on me that 1994 was a hell of a long time ago, and suddenly I thought that perhaps I ought to give up hope waiting for a new series. But look what happened in April 2001! The very week I get back from a two-week holiday in South America, my sister Grace comes up to me and says "Hey, guess what? They're going to repeat Maid Marian!"
Not only have the repeats increased interest in the show - they've re-ignited demand for a new series! We know now that some of the cast have been wanting one for the last seven years, but surely - if Maid Marian was ever going to get a chance to be made again, then this is the time! You could say, when the iron's hot!
And one, final note. What's all this about the cast being too old, eh?! Anyone who has seen the recent Blackadder Back and Forth will know that even as much as 10 years will hardly make a difference when costumes/wigs/make-up are involved! Besides, we all know that Kate still looks fantastic anyway!

News, 10th January 2002
Maid Marian and her Merry Men is returning on the BBC's digital channel CBBC.
News, 24th April 2001
I notice on Barringtons Guestbook, Simon W. (unfortunately no e-mail) says 'I remember hearing that the BBC axed the show (in 1994) because it contained a lot of 'bad references' or something so I taped the last 2 series'. What does this mean? Can anyone shed any light?
News, 1st April 2001
Marian is getting repeated! Woo hoo! I think on BBC1 in April 2001.
Why should Maid Marian be repeated?
- It was one of the funniest 'childrens' shows ever. Penned by the comedy genius Tony Robinson whose starred in Blackadder, another classic contrastingly well acknowledged. A magnificent cast supported and added to the characters such as the vain Robin and feisty Marian. It was also topical so repeat it soon!
- It was popular, I'm not sure what ratings it got in the UK (0.5 million at a wild guess) but most 15-25 year olds now have fond memories of it. Has it also been an international success, building a fanbase in the USA and Australia?
- It's wasted. Why isn't it repeated? There's airtime to fill, evident in the schedules. It's gathering dust in the archives while other lesser progs are repeated. It's been 7 years now and it's well overdue to be seen again.
- There's money to be made from merchandising. Every episode should be available on video at the least, probably DVD. A CD soundtrack with Marian songs would be essential, unmissable, a definite (marketing opportunity).
To all those asking about the Stage Show, here's a copy of a promotional blurb done when it was performed at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre in April 1996: MAID MARIAN AND HER MERRY MEN - The Musical Spellbound by Godspell? In love with Aspects of Love? Starry-eyed over Jesus Christ Superstar? Then a word of warning...Maid Marian isnt like any of these shows. Its a fresh, funny, contemporary musical featuring the kind of music todays young people want to hear. Maid Marian is based on the multi award-winning TV series, but doesnt retread old ground or rely on the original TV cast for its appeal. (Apart from Tony Robinson, who co-wrote and co-directed it, so its his ball and he said if he wasnt the star hed be taking it straight home and no-one else could play either. So there). The show features an ensemble company of all-singing, all-dancing, all-knackered-by-the-end-of-the-show performers, and is fresh, vibrant and different. When Maid Marian and her Merry Men first hit your TV screen, it was like no other kids TV show, and the stage version takes a similarly fresh and irreverent approach to the cosy world of musical theatre.
Fed up with having to do yet another performance of Malcolm MacMillans traditional production of that perennial family favourite Robin Hood and His Merry Men, the actors stop the show and decide to tell it how it really was; the story of Maid Marian and her Merry Men. Marian soon has the audience on her side, and MacMillan is forced to let her do things her way as the cast launch into their own up-tempo, improvised and very funny version of events. Marian and her rapidly assembled band of freedom fighters stand up for the rights of freedom, justice, democracy and the right to party in their fight against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and his horrid henchperson, Susan who are terrorising the innocent and brain-dead villagers of Patchway. When the baddies make off with all the villagers clothes, Marian realises its time to act, and in a spectacular confrontation kills the evil Sheriff. Unfortunately the show has barely reached the interval, and as MacMillan needs the audiences ice cream money he is forced to assume the mantle of the new and even more evil Sheriff of Nottingham and start telling the story from his point of view. Thanks to the trickery of the Sheriff and the incompetence of Robin and the rest of the gang, Marian is tricked, outwitted, humilated and eventually tied to a huge missile which is programmed to destroy Patchway...is this the end for Maid Marian and her Merry Men? Of course it isnt, but youll have to come and see the show to find out exactly what happens at the end. The show was co-written by Tony Robinson, Mark Billingham and David Lloyd (that's me, that is), with music by John O'Hara and Akintayo Akinbode.
