Belo Horizonte is the city that we lived in while Barry studied Portuguese. The name means "Beautiful Horizon," as you can see from the picture.
The university I studied at is called UFMG: The Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. To the left is the Faculdade de Letras, the Department where I had classes. To the right is a photo of us with the other students in the program, in front of the Chapeu da Bruja, or "Witch's Hat," a mountain at a local park.
Here we are with our host "parents," Dona Ida and Senhor Itajiba. We really enjoyed sharing their home, food, and company.
We visited the Museu de Minerologia, a minerology museum in Belo. They had a lot of precious minerals and interesting rocks, such as this big piece of quartz.
Here we are with some other members of Dona Ida and Senhor Itajiba's family.
Our favorite restaurant was O Rancho do Manoel, an espetinho place that sold incredibly cheap, incredibly delicious food. We went to lunch on this day with Lauro and Aline.
