CYCLE TOURS
IN SWEDEN

THE BAC TOUR 2006
Sörmland-Stockholm

28th June – 9th July

Overview

This tour offers an inside view of Sweden. A chance to meet local people in their natural surroundings. An opportunity to explore beautiful areas that are off the tourist track. The tour wants you to experience the magical light of the long summer nights, the beautiful back roads and the fascinating history of this part of the world. Imagine bicycling on a country road in the glow of the setting sun at 10:30 at night. In Sweden, summer days continue into long "timeless" evenings.  Perfect for cycle touring, Sweden brings you the fragrance of flowers, long magical evenings and a relaxed way of life.

 Sörmland
Is the province that forms the countryside round Stockholm. It has Sweden's largest collection of estates and manor houses. Situated on the shores of lake Mälaren it has a varied nature and an exciting past. The towns have their roots in medieval times. Most of the towns and villages in Sörmland can trace their history back to the pagan period when the Nordic gods ruled the earth.  Sörmland is one of Sweden's most interesting and beautiful provinces. The country roads are quiet and virtually free from traffic.

Stockholm
Get to know the magnificent city of Stockholm by bike! It's the capital of Sweden and is comprised of 14 islands on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It's a popular tourist destination with lots to see and do. It is said that Stockholm is one-third greenery, one-third water and one-third city. We finish this tour exploring Stockholm's parks and islands. Finding hidden treasures right in the city.  With its combination of old and new it's a capital that swings. Ideal for "Big City Tourism". and built on islands in the Baltic, Stockholm is "The Venice of the North!".

The  combination Sörmland - Stockholm with lakes, waterways and The Baltic Sea is, without doubt, one of Scandinavia's major tourist magnets.

Preliminary itinerary

Starting 27th June and finishing 9th July at Arlanda airport in Stockholm, this tour will provide participants with cycling “par excellence” The tour starts with a loop round Lake Mälaren into the province of Sörmland. Magnificent scenery, majestic country houses and quaint small towns are the norm. The cycling is fairly easy and there will be sights, attractions and activities to suit everyone. This tour is a journey through history, a visit to typical Swedish life as it is today and has been in the past. We’ll visit small towns that have a modern character, an interesting past and something to catch our interest. The countryside with its lakes, manor houses and quiet roads is spellbinding, as are the quaint small towns we will visit. Each day will be an adventure in itself, with tram rides, car museums, town walks etc on the menu. The hotels are cosy and well situated and the evening meals something to look forward to.
Cycle touring in Sweden is about being together and sharing the day!

After the loop through Sörmland and our stay on the coast we ride into Stockholm. Stockholm is an exciting city with something for everyone. It has its fair share of old and new architecture and a long history. Being set on the shores of the Baltic Sea it also has a long and interesting maritime past. One of the sights on our list is the flag ship Vasa, recovered, restored, and now on show in the Vasa museum. We’ll see the sights and parks that Stockholm has to offer and see how easy it is to navigate a modern city by bike.  Finally we’ll let you discover Stockholm for yourselves before we head back to our hotel and the final night at Arlanda.

This is definitely a tour for cyclists!
