SKILLS:

Languages: Portuguese: native; English: fluent (spoken, read and written - "The Way" school - São Carlos/SP - Brazil); French: fluent (spoken, read and written - University of Yale method); and Spanish: proficient. I also have a good international experience, having visited many countries (for work and/or leisure) and routinely interacting with foreign colleagues (sometimes as an interpreter).
Electronics: Design, implementation and maintenance of circuits, mainly in the field of scientific instrumentation: sensors (magnetometry, thermometry, position etc), AD (analog-to-digital) conversion etc.
Digital electronics
& "low level" programming:
Expert on the several procedures involved in the computer-instruments interfacing: project/debugging of the control circuits, definition of the communicating protocols, up to the "machine language" programming of the microprocessors found at both ends of the interface (using languages like: Assembler, C, Forth and BASIC, and working in "real time" environments like: MS-DOS and RTLinux).
"High level"
programming:
Over 15 years' experience, being able to independently (as well as part of a team) develop software for the DOS/Windows, Macintosh and UNIX platforms, in areas as diverse as: visualization, database management, format conversion, graphical interfaces, simulations etc, using the so called "procedural" (older, for example: QuickBasic, gcc) as well as "object oriented" (e.g.: Python, Java) and/or "visual" (e.g.: Visual Basic, Delphi) versions of the programming languages commonly found in the scientific context.
Desktop Publishing: Complete autonomy with the various steps needed to prepare scientific articles, posters and theses, mastering several types of graphic packages (e.g.: CorelDraw!, PhotoShop) and text editors (e.g.: LaTeX, MS Word) as well as ancillary activities such as scanning, optical character recognition, creation of presentations, printing on multiple media etc. High proficiency in handling languages like HTML (I have my own "home page" since 1998) and XML (semantic structuring of data).
System administration
& "free software"
Extensive experience in managing local (even mixed: PCs and Macs) networks, either under their respective proprietary systems: Windows and MacOS(X), or (preferably) replacing them by the free operating system Linux. I am an enthusiastic supporter of the broadest adoption of Linux (which I use since 2000), and the "free software" philosophy in general, throughout the scientific community.
