Ming: The Boat Cat
Portland, Sept. 7, 2000

Ming, our unique, ornery, lovable, character-filled cat now has reconciled herself to the notion that she is a ship's cat.
She wanders the docks at South Port Marina, meowing and talking to announce her presence whenever she comes upon another sailor.
She insists that attention be paid.  She steps aboard other boats to sniff her way to the finer places.  She is reveling in the attention she gets.
Old Ming (now 14 years old) and her soulmate Misha, as some of you already know, recently was diagnosed with feline leukemia and AIDS. We lost Misha a week after the visit to the vet.  Misha slid down that slippery slope quickly.  She lost weight, had a hard time keeping food down.  Eventually, she started passing blood and we thought it only decent to let her die with some dignity.
Ming, with her mind the size of a medium split pea seems to have coped fairly well with the disappearance. She wandered the apartment for a few nights, calling out for Misha.  But she is off on a new adventure now and her brain can only deal with one task at a time.
Ming shows no signs of illness.
Jo and I have decided to take her on our voyage down the East Coast.  We'll keep an eye on her health and when it comes time to go foreign we'll have to deal with the health issue again then.
