Rob Brown Jazz Project
News
March 3rd/2003: The Jazz Project had a great time on February 27th: first we went to perform for Mark Hopkins' (my drummer) final recital where we were met with great reviews, and then we went to The Oasis (College St.) to open for Micheline (though we actually are 3/4 of the rhythm section of that band too.)   The Jazz Project was met with a friendly, and appreciative audience where we took the song that we played at the final recital (Sissy Strut, by the Meters) and even through in a little pop song by the Eagles, "I Can't Tell You Why."   The crowd dug it.
    Two shows coming up: The
Timothy's World Coffee show on March 13th will be as a duet with Christine and myself.    Its an intimate setting with great coffee, great service and "skor brownies" that are so sweet and rich, you'll think you're in heaven!!!  Just a tip jar here, and the show starts at 7:00pm.   Seating's limited so get there early!!!
The second show is going to be BIG!!   Its the return of the
Jazz Project to Chicago's Diner and to celebrate, we're adding a new member!!!   Come check out who it will be!!!   All I can say is that this roster addition will alter our sound a bit more into the sophisticated, smooth, groovy sound that we want.

March 18th/2003: Once again, big reminder to everyone: BIG GIG ON SUNDAY, MARCH 23rd @ Chicago's Diner!!   Chicago's is on Queen St, east of Spadina, west of University.   Show starts at 9pm.
Why is it such a big show???  Why, because its the debut of the new fourth member of the project:
Vickie Yang, a phenom on the keys from Victoria, BC.   She brings with her solid jazz skills with pop sesnibilities, and allows us to explore greater tonal tapestries.   Now with Mark Hopkins on drums and Christine Bougie on guitar as well as myself on bass, I might just have one of the strongest jazz bands in Toronto.  So I expect to see you all out at Chicago's this Sunday, March 23rd!!!!
March 27th/2003:   Well, the only way the gig at Chicago's could've been better is if it rained $100 bills at the end of the night.   Vickie's debut was excellent, an incredibly talented keyboardist who's going to make waves in this scene, and I'm lucky to have her in the band.   Mark and Christine were once again their superb selves throwing down harder than a Mike Tyson punch (in his heyday of course).   I also had every band I play in represented at that show with Corey Branigan from E-Soul, Micheline Carone from Micheline, and Mark, Roger, and Ashley from Diva Mania (besides myself and Mark being 1/2 of 401 Run anyway.)
   Speaking of
Mark Grysiuk... let me just say this to the other agents who used to represent me, (or to those who represent a certain country band I play in) YOU CAN TAKE LESSONS FROM THIS GUY!!!!   Within 4 days of seeing The Jazz Project he has us working in the corporate circuit.    This man, besides being a great guitarist, and musician, is also great as an agent.   So you're going to see more of us soon (and to see more of Mark check out his webpage www.markgrysiuk.com).
Also check us out April 10th at
Chicago's Diner (335 Queen St W) opening for Micheline.   Gonna be a blast again, so come out early!!!!!
June 13th/2003: The Jazz Project was the Jazz Duo on May 29th at Timothy's World Coffee (Roncesvalles and Grenadier).   My special guest was Thompson Thompson Egbo-Egbo on piano.  You can check out his webpage on www.egbo.ca.   This young man has already played for royalty, and he has a long successful career ahead of him.   His playing is a Latin/classical fusion that is incredibly intense.
The Jazz Project is also going to be recording a 5 song demo soon, with most of it being in mp3 format on my new webpage,
www.robbrownjazz.com, as well as for sale at any of our shows.    The Jazz Project will probably be gigging throughout the summer, so keep an eye out on the Schedule page for any future shows.
