Rob Brown Jazz Project
The Rob Brown Jazz Project is a groove-jazz/modern jazz project following in the same traditions as Medeski, Martin, and Wood, The Meters, Zero 7, and  Herbie Hancock.  The Project plays a mix of jazz standards, pop/rock, and modern jazz compositions, as well as tapping into some New Orleans funk and even into the newer realms of acid jazz and nu-jazz.
The leader of the project, bassist
Rob Brown (aka "The Bubba") brings with him a strong melodic and harmonic style, while at the same time, knowing how to set the place on fire with some high octane power.   He also brings with him a lot of experience as a bassist/music director for Osee Anderson, Wild Child Butler, and even having played behind Sam Moore (of Sam and Dave), Dan Ackroyd (the Blues Brother himself), and Billy Newton-Davis (of The Nylons) as well as many others.   The Bubba was even referred to by Sam Moore as "a killer bassist who can throw down."

The Bubba brings both a strong R&B background and a bluesy jazz vibe to the stage with him, as you can hear both in the groove that he lays out and in the passion that he solos with.   Something that you'll get that you don't see much anymore is a jazz artist with charisma.   He doesn't shy away from a mic, either to talk with the audience or to share an anecdote or two.

The Bubba also brings to the stage some of the best young musicians in Toronto.   On guitar he has played with Christine Bougie and Nick Robertson; on keyboards with Vickie Yang and Thompson-Thompson; and on the drums, Mark Hopkins.

The Rob Brown Jazz Project brings a fresh new sound to jazz... too jazzy to be a jam band, and too funky to be your parents jazz band, The Rob Brown Jazz Project is just right for your soul.
