The Israeli Mole
Episode 4
(Thanks to Tomer
Israeli)

Eldad, the oldest member of the group, has left. A departure different
from most, since it is the first time a contestant willingly leaves the game.
Eldad’s sacrifice leaves the group in an interesting position. Everyone knows,
that if it wasn’t for his daughter’s visit, the execution could have ended
quite differently. Due to Eldad’s "suicidal questionnaire", each
contestant now gets a chance to check themselves, see if they are certain they
can survive the next execution. Every one of them has to assume that he or she
could have been the one leaving in the sixth night. Every one of them, but THE
MOLE.
PS: Sorry, but I have no screenshots for this episode.
Day 7
Their first mission is to put on a show in the pub of a Kibbutz
that evening at 9pm. They have to bring seventy people to watch it and keep them
all in until the show is over. If they get seventy people to the show, they win
3500 shekels. If they manage to keep the seventy people through the entire show,
they have additional 4000 shekels. They all go to prepare for the show and
discuss their strategy.
Sigi: "Let’s remember that Kibutzniks, with all due respect,
don’t have a lot to do at 9pm in the evening. They’ll come."
Oded and Dana are in charge of letting everyone know of the
show. The rest of them go to the pub and start preparing. The show will be based
on a known Israeli show called "The sixteenth lamb". It’s some show
that has singing involved, but I have never watched it so I can’t tell you
exactly what it’s about.
Sigi: "Wait, how do we call our show? Excuse me, Doron."
Sharon: "The sixteenth lamb and the guys"
Doron: "The sixteenth lamb, the true story!"
**********************************
Dana and Oded go to see the person who runs the Kibbutz, the
secretary of the kibbutz. He lets them speak with the woman in charge of the
Kibbutz communication committee representative. Her name is Batia. Oded
asks her what’s the best way to let everyone know of the show, and she says
that it’s probably too late for putting it in the mailboxes, so the best way
is to hang a flier on the Kibbutz’s billboard.
The secretary of the Kibbutz seems to think he’s running the show, and tells Oded
and Dana exactly what to do in it. "In your show you will speak
of the importance of the activities for peace, and for Barak in the
elections." (by the time the mole was broadcast in the state of Israel,
Barak has already lost the elections for Ariel Sharon).
Oded phones the pub and reports of his actions. He then goes outside to
give people fliers. One of his customers is an old man riding an engined cart.
He’s wearing a big blue airforce coat. When Oded gives him the flier he
says he can’t read, so Oded reads it to him, and tells him the show
will be in the pub. The old man refuses to go to the pub.
Old Man: "You see me going to a pub? I, who got drafted to
"HaShomer Hatzair" seventy years ago, you think that a pub is a pass
time for me?"
Oded: "Well, we’ll be happy to see you there."
Old Man: "I’ll also be happy to see me there, but I’m tied up."
The old man starts his cart (no one seem to have put it on drive J
) and drives off.
Dana and Oded go to the Kibbutz’s dining room, get up on chairs
and announce that they are from channel 2 and that they will be putting up a
show in the pub at 9pm.
After spreading the word, Oded and Dana go back to the pub, where
Itai calls all of them up to him, and tells them he needs two people for an
assignment.
Two people who have a sense for math, who can count until up to 320, and have
a sense for order and organization.
Zehava and Israel are picked. They go with Itai to shepherd the
sheep. If the two manage to return all the sheep safely, they will win 5000
shekels. Plus: if they can tell how many sheep are in the herd, the prize
immediately jumps to 8000 shekels.
The show prepared something that can help the two. There are three dogs: Falco,
Bob (white dogs) and Simba (black dog). One of those three cute little dogs is a
shepherd dog. They choose Bob, he’s not the right dog. The shepherd dog was
Simba, and he will not accompany them. Bob goes with Israel and Zehava
but doesn’t seem to care much for the sheep or the mission. Israel and Zehava
don’t get along with the sheep, and as they are fighting the sheep, a song
from the "Sixteenth lamb" is heard in the background.
At some point Zehava disappears, leaving Israel to do the entire
job himself.
Israel argues with the invisible crew of the show, telling them he can’t
do it on his own.
Israel: "What am I, a shepherd dog? Zehava is a mole, damn it!"
Israel calls for Zehava at the top of his lungs.
We later see Zehava sitting in the grass, taking mud off her shoes. She
looks up as she hears Israel shouting at her.
<We then see parts of their interviews later that night:
Israel: "A man can’t do it on his own. I needed Zehava, and she
disappears. Now, I’m running with the sheep like crazy. Now, I understand she’s
not at a top physical condition, but still, she didn’t do anything."
Zehava: "I just didn’t have the strength. I didn’t have the
strength to walk. At first it was very excited, but when you have all this mud
on your shoes, you just can’t walk.">
The two fail the first part of the mission and don’t win the 5000 shekels.
But there is a second part. They have to count the sheep. If they can, they win
3000 shekels. It is impossible to count them all, but Zehava remembers
what Itai said when drafting them to the mission: He said he needs people with a
sense for math, who can count at least until 320, and she goes with that guess.
She’s right, and the group wins 3000 shekels. The entire reward up to now sums
up at 54,000 shekels.
Simba, just for kicks, get the job of gathering the sheep together. He does it
on his own in ten minutes.
The two shepherds go back to the pub and celebrate their success with a dance
In the meantime, Oded shares his thoughts with the group.
Oded: "How much do we get for that mission?"
Sharon: "7500 shekels."
Oded: "In my opinion it doesn’t worth it. I seriously mean it, it
doesn’t worth it!"
Doron: "The sum isn’t that great, but there’s no choice, we have
to put it on."
Sharon: "What’s the problem?"
Oded: "We’ll embarrass ourselves in front of the whole… where
ever we are."
Sigi: "But you embarrass yourself every week, Oded."
Oded: "No."
<Interviews:
Zehava: "...and suddenly Oded tells the whole group, I’m not
doing that, I’m not in the show. It looked a little weird.">
In the pub:
Oded: "The point is there is a mission that looks a little bit,
in reality, ridiculous. On the paper it looks differently."
<Interviews:
Sigi: "The point is you don’t know if it’s a mole, or if
people really don’t want to participate.">
In the pub:
Oded: "We know for a fact we won’t succeed the mission. So I
see no point in us making fools of ourselves if we know we won’t succeed."
Oded leaves the pub.
**********************
Fifteen minutes before 9pm people start to show up. But far from seventy.
After 13 people have showed up, Sigi and Zehava take two pairs of
bicycles and go on a final tour of the Kibbutz to get more people. They
literally knock on people’s doors, enter their homes, and convince them to
come see the show.
86 people show up. Now, in order to win the entire reward, the group has to keep
at least 70 of them in the room.
But right when the show is about to begin, Sigi, the only true Musician
in the group, loses her music pages.
In the interviews, Sigi says that she left the room where the pages were
so she doesn’t know who could have taken them. Oded is certain it was
some kind of mole action. Sharon says that the pages were never found to
this day.
By the time they start the show, three people walk out of the room.
Doron takes on the leadership, walks to the microphone, and starts
improvising, joking around with the audience. As he tells the story of a lamb
named Menashe, more people leave. 74 remain.
Doron: "Does anyone knows the number of this lamb?"
Obviously everyone knows and one member of the audience, whose name Doron
already knows, raises his hand.
Doron: "Orr, you are brilliant. What are you doing tonight? After
Zinzana (a successful Israeli prison show)."
<Interviews:
Doron: "I really surprised myself. I found myself seating
there, enjoying the moment and telling myself "Feel it. It’s now, and it’s
here, and you can taste it. It was strong. It was really strong.">
In the pub:
Israel, Zehava, Oded and Sharon are singing a song.
The audience seems to enjoy and even sings along with them.
<Interviews:
Oded: "It was just terrible. We were terrible."
Sharon: "Me singing??? I can’t sing. But at the show I sucked
less than usual."
Israel: "There is audience, and there is fear from audience, and
in my case it’s in me since the third grade.">
The mission was a success, and the full 7500 shekels go into the joined account. The account now stands at 62000 shekels.
****************************
Night: The group gets cameras, and each person takes one to his/her room.
Sharon: (in English) "Excuse me father for I have sinned."
(in Hebrew) "This is my first confession."
Zehava: "It was a once in a life experience. I’ll be really sad
if I’ll have to leave. But I’ll be just as sad if someone else will have to
leave."
Israel: "The show we did there, left me high, and I feel good, I
feel good about everything that happens here"
Doron: "The vote seems closer and closer. And nobody wants
it. Right now everyone wants that everyone will continue."
Sharon: "Everyone here lies to each other. It’s not easy. I
lied a lot, and I apologize for all the people I lied to." (in English)
"Sorry, guys." (Hebrew) "I have to stay to the end. I
need the money."
At this point Sharon starts singing a song from the show they put on.
Day 8
The contestants, wearing all white, go to a quarry. The first thing Itai does is
giving them all envelopes. One of them has a paper marked with a red X. That
person will be chosen to be put in the tower.
Itai takes Sharon to the tower and explains the mission to the rest:
They have to escape three snipers dressed in yellow coats, and get to the tower
where Sharon is and rescue her. Once there, Sharon will give them
rifles, and lead them to the finish point, known only to her. Two people out of
the seven will have to stay alive and make it to the finish point.
The group members put on their helmets (the ones with the cameras) and start to
discuss strategy. But first, before telling you what they have decided, lets go
back to Sharon, who is in the tower.
Itai explains the mission to Sharon, and offers her an exemption from the
next execution, if she makes sure to destroy the mission. For that to happen,
she has to be the only one who gets to the finish line.
Sharon is left alone in the tower to think of the offer, and we don’t
know what she has decided.
************
Back to the rescuers:
Israel suggests that everyone will run at the same time like crazy. Oded
refuses.
Zehava offers that one of them will be sent and scarified as a decoy, and
this way they’ll know where the first sniper is. In the end they decide that
each one will go the tower on his own, one at a time, and the person who has
best chances to survive will go last. Who has the best chances? They decide it’s
Doron.
They start the mission. The song "sabotage" is played in the
background. Oded runs, and is the first to get hit by a sniper standing
inside one of the buildings in one of the higher floors. The sniper picks up a
radio, and reports that one is down. Oded falls to the ground, and seems
to have been hit in a rather sensitive area. If his girlfriend wants kids, she
might wanna get a new boyfriend.
A second sniper has Doron in his view. Israel sees the sniper and
tries to get his attention. Zehava uses the distraction to get behind a
pole.
Israel tries the same thing again, but the snipers manage to hit him. But
thank to this heroic action, Dana gets to be the first one to reach the
tower, where Sharon is held.
Sigi and Doron are in their corner, planning their next move.
Doron: "What’s going on?"
Sigi: "Oded died."
Doron: "Oded died?"
Sigi: "Yeah. You see the sniper up there?"
********************
Zehava manages to find a safe route to the tower, and shouts for Sigi
to get to her. Sigi and Doron run to Zehava’s hiding
place. Doron is almost hit by a sniper who’s shooting at them. Doron
runs to the tower and gets to Sharon’s room. Sigi and Zehava
follow him. Inside, the group discovers it has lost two if its members.
Sharon explains the rest of the mission. She says that she will lead
them. She’ll get to the finish point, which is on the ground, and the rest
will follow her once she’s there.
The group enjoys having the chance to fight back, with their new rifles. What
they don’t know is that their new commander has gotten an offer: to sabotage
the challenge, and get a free pass to the next episode.
Sharon seems to lead the group well to safety. She runs with Dana
in a certain direction, but there is a sniper waiting in a balcony above.
Sharon: "You’ll run and I’ll stay here and get him."
Dana does as she is told, but gets hit in her leg on the way. She’s
out of the game.
Sharon shouts to everyone that Dana is dead. She tells everyone to
run together.
Somehow, Zehava gets hit, and is also out of the game. Doron and Sigi
shoot at a sniper and get him out of the game.
It is now three contestants Vs two snipers.
Doron enters an empty building, but one of the remaining snipers gets
him. It is now two VS two. In order to win the mission, both Sharon and Sigi
must survive.
Sharon tells Sigi that she will go to the finish line, and
afterwards she’ll cover for Sigi as she’s running to meet her. Sharon
gets to the finish line and tells Sigi to run towards her and start
shooting. Sigi refuses to run until Sharon starts shooting first.
In the end, Sigi runs to the finish line, passes the snipers, and when
she’s almost safe, she sprints towards the finish line. Sharon starts
shooting her. Sigi, even when hit, does not stop running, and Sharon
doesn’t stop shooting.
Sigi gets to the finish line, with white clothes covered with red paint.
Sigi (raising her helmet up and exposes her face): "You shot me.
Why?"
Sharon: "This is what I’ve been requested to do."
Sigi: "What?"
<Interviews:
Sharon says that she shot again and again until she saw Sigi was
hurt.
Sigi says that at the moment it happened she could have killed Sharon.>
We than see a scene in which Sigi points her gun at Sharon,
while Sharon is not wearing her helmet on.
Sharon: "Don’t. Don’t shoot me. It’s dangerous."
After a while the others hear the rumor of Sharon’s betrayal and
talk about it angrily.
Sharon: "You want to know why?"
Zehava: "Yes, I am REALLY interested to hear why."
Sharon: "Because today I’m going through the execution, without
going through the execution."
Zehava is angry with Sharon, for saving her own ass instead of
helping the group. She says that what Sharon has done was bitchy.
Sharon asks her if she hadn’t done the same thing in her shoes if it
meant surviving the execution. Zehava says she wouldn’t have done it.
Sharon tells her that these are the rules and this is the game.
Doron: "I forgive you, because I knew you had a shitty character."
The group gets on a small truck and starts getting out of the battle clothing.
Doron: "Between us, Israel, honestly, you wouldn’t have taken
the exemption?"
Dana: "I don’t know."
Israel: "No."
Doron: "But it took you time to answer."
<Interviews:
Dana: "I don’t know what I would have done instead of Sharon.
From how I know myself to this day, I wouldn’t do it probably."
Doron: "If I had time to think I would have done it. If the
answer would have been instinctive, then no."
Zehava: "I would have preferred not to do it."
Sigi: "I wouldn’t do it."
Oded: "I didn’t get the offer, so I’m exempted from thinking
about it."
The truck:
Sharon: "I feel like shit, really."
Israel: "Than give up the exemption. Show you’re with us
and that you didn’t do it for that."
Sharon smiles at Israel.
Suspicions
Oded: "Sharon did a deed that put an unpleasant spirit in
the group."
Zehava: "As more people leave, people try harder to survive. That
feistiness of "I’ll screw him so I’ll survive", that’s the game."
Sigi: "I’m still on Oded and Israel, leaning more strongly
towards Oded."
Dana: "I’m still very suspicious of Sharon."
Zehava: "Doron seems to be the most fit to do it emotionally."
(Zehava is sitting in front of the laptop, punching Doron’s
name)
Israel: "I’m still betting on Doron. He’s a very
sophisticated man, and he’s just playing. He’s been acting all along."
Doron: "My main suspicions are on Oded and Zehava. Oded gets
weakened and Zehava gets stronger, but it comes and goes in waves. What’s
funny here, is that even if people suspect me. I’m the best ear. I mean,
people have been telling me things that they didn’t tell their best friends.
And I peeled them all. I feel like I have peeled them all. I know exactly who is
the person that stands in front of me."
Israel: "I’ll tell you who it is that I want to stay. It’s
Doron or Sigi. Both of them, actually."
Sigi: "Zehava. She’s like my sister here."
Oded: "I’ll be sorry the most if Dana will go. There is one
more person that I’ll be sorry to see going, but I don’t think he’ll be
going anywhere. That’s Doron."
Doron: "If I’m going home today it’s gonna be a great
disappointment. Because it means that I’ve been wrong in my assumptions."
Israel: "I think we’ve came to the point that past it, every
person who leaves is like cutting through the living flesh."
Doron finishes his quiz, he puts his hand in a form of a Christian prayer
(not a clue). "May god help us all."
Suspicous
Oded doesn’t want to make a fool of himself in front of an
audience.
Sigi’s pages disappear right before the show.
Israel and Zehava pick the wrong dog.
During the shepherd mission, Israel bothers to say in front of the camera
who his suspect is (Zehava), but later says that Doron is the guy.
Zehava disappears just when Israel needs her the most. She says
she didn’t have strengths, but later she has strength for dancing with Israel
and gather people for the show with Sigi.
Sharon takes an exemption and betrays the group.
Execution
All of them are seated on the couches. Sharon is seated behind them on a
stool, tears in her eyes. She’s not seating there because of the exemption,
but because this is her assigned seat (The stool next to hers was Guy’s).
Itai: "Well, we have came to the most charged execution we’ve had so
far. Sharon, from known reasons, will not take part in it. She’s got an
exemption. Which leaves only six of you. Shall we begin?"
Click on the photos to see who goes:
On the next episode: The biggest mishap in the history of the show happens when three people almost get exemption from breathing!!! Even the mole couldn’t have done this one.
