The 3rd Dutch Mole
Episode 6
Kerstin was the fourth person to leave. Maybe she did get that
exemption in episode 4. Maybe she already was the lowest scorer back then and
she was saved by the exemption. But now she's gone and the others continue to
find The Mole.
Day 10 Buçaco Palace
Everyone is still sitting in their seats after the elimination and the host
walks towards them. She tells them they will sleep at the Buçaco Palace and
that they will make a long journey the next day. They also have to appoint two
groups. A duo and a group of 5. The duo is Harry and George.

Day 11 Buçaco Palace
Ellen hands out the pocket money to everyone and they talk about the
elimination. She says she didn't expect Kerstin to go at all. Prince asks
her who she did expect, but she won't answer.
CC
Ellen:"At the elimination I was really surprised to see Kerstin
leave. I didn't expect it, because she was a serious player and really focused
on the game. And I was surprised that she was wrong about The Mole."
Harry:"The atmosphere in the group is kind of ok, but you
notice some people are very tired."
John:"You are being lived and I'm not used to that. At home I
can do what I want but here everything is thrown in front of your feet and
that's quite difficult sometimes."
George:"It's really strange days. Sometimes you have to wait
and then you have to play games where you have to be sharp and concentrate. And
it's getting tough to concentrate."
They travel to Evora where the first challenge will start. The
five contestants wait for further instructions. Then someone arrives:"Good
afternoon, my name is Libanio and I will be your guide this afternoon. I invite
you for a walk around the city, discovering the monuments and buildings."
They start at 1:00 pm. They don't know they will have to tell George
adn Harry about the tour in detail. Find
out about Evora by clicking here.
Harry and George are taken to the Evora Hotel without any
instructions and are told to wait.
CC
Karen:"We distributed our tasks. Jantien and me wrote as much
down as possible, Ellen tried to remember the details and John and Prince were
the observers."
They visit the laconicum, or sweat bath, which is built in the
exact same shape as the previous Roman bath. They go to a church where they see
a virgin Mary statue in marble from the 15th century and visit a museum where
they see a lot of paintings from Flemmish painters from the 16th century.
The guide takes them to the local market and tells them that a traditional
product from that area is cork. Portugal is the world's biggest producer of cork.
Also on the market they see pottery made by handicraft men. They see another
building which they started building in the 12th century and above there heads
is an octagonal tower which has a height of 27 meters.
It's 2:30 pm and George and Harry still have no clue what will
happen.
CC
Jantien:"The tour was quite fun, but at a certain point I
thought 'Please stop'. More and more information kept coming."
They go to the chamber of bones. It has a piece of text saying
'Us bones standing here, for your bones we are waiting for'. It's a chapel made
entirely out of bones by the monks in the 16th century. They came there to
meditate. It has 5,000 skulls and of those skulls, only 4 still have the jaw.
It's 4:00 pm and it's still not over. They see a Roman temple which was later on
used as a slaughter house, but in the 19th century they decided to keep the
building because it's from the Romans.
5:00 pm and the tour is over. The guide gives them a tape of their visit and he
tells them they can teach Harry and George all about the visit
until 9:00 pm. Especially Jantien and Karen teach them everything
they know as the others watch the tape of their trip and come up with details.
There is a lot of information, because the tour took 4 hours. At 9:00 pm, George
and Harry have to leave the room.
The host explains them that she will ask George and Harry 5
questions. They have to guess who will have most questions correct. They go for Harry.
If Harry has more questions right than George, they win 5,000 €.
If they both answer an equal amount of questions correctly, nothing happens and
if George has more questions correct, they will have to pay 5,000 €.
Harry has to go first:
Question 1) Portugal is the world's biggest producer of which product?
Harry:"Cork." That's correct.
Question 2) In the town hall of Evora they are currently digging up an old Roman
bath house. What is the diameter of the bath?
The others sigh already and Harry says it's 12 meter. Karen shakes
her head. It was 9 meters.
Question 3) How many skulls in the Bone Chapel have a jaw?
Harry correctly says it's four.
Question 4) What did the Roman temple in Evora get used for in the 14th century?
Harry:"A slaughter house." Which is correct.
Question 5) What's the name of the guide who took the contestants on the tour?
Everyone laughs, because no one told Harry and they don't remember it
either. Harry guesses it's Pedro, which is wrong. The correct answer is
Libanio.
Harry has 3 questions correct and George now is questioned:
Question 1) Portugal is the world's biggest producer of which product?
George:"Cork." The host overenthusiastically says:"Well
done." and pats him on the shoulder. Jokingly of course, because
everyone except George himself knows that if he has more questions right,
they will lose money.
Question 2) In the town hall of Evora they are currently digging up an old Roman
bath house. What is the diameter of the bath?
George looks at his fellow contestants, who start laughing. He guesses
it's 6 meters, which is wrong.
Question 3) How many skulls in the Bone Chapel have a jaw?
He correctly says it's four.
Question 4) What did the Roman temple in Evora get used for in the 14th century?
He also has this one correctly. A slaughter house.
Question 5) What's the name of the guide who took the contestants on the tour?
George:"You'll have to ask them, they didn't tell me."
Both had 3 questions right, so they win nor lose nothing.
CC
Karen:"As far as I've been told, I'm the only one who knew that
the guide was called Libanio and that diameter of the laconicum had a diameter
of 9 meters."
Harry:"Karen had told George that she knew the diameter of
the bath and she said Jantien told her not to mention that because it was too
detailed and Jantien says the opposite, so it's quite confusing."
Jantien:"It's very well possible. I don't know anymore. But I
thought we had to limit the highlights of the tour."
They have to choose two people who have an eye for detail. They
go for Karen and George:

Day 12 Evora
CC
Jantien:"You concentrate on The Mole but you have to note and
remember a lot of details and it's impossible to write down all details of
everyone, because you'll go mad."
Prince:"If I have some kind of problem I can tell John about
it. We have the same age, think the same way about a lot of things."
John:"I talk a lot with Prince, but I know that if we get
further into the game we will be standing against each other. You have to keep
that in mind."
Evora Airfield
Everyone but Karen and George arrive at the airfield,
where they meet Mike, pilot of the Utterly Butterly. Spread around the area are
letters and they have to remember those letters to make a word out of it. They
can win 10,000 €. If it doesn't work they have to pay 5,000 €. However
there's one thing: the Utterly Butterly is the only plane where you can travel
along if you're standing on top of it!
Each one individually has to stand on top of the plane and try to spot the
letters on the ground they fly over. Ellen goes first.
Viana de Alentejo
Meanwhile, George and Karen have gone to Sra de Aires, a
church where the Portuguese pray for the ill people in a special way: They place
a picture of the ill person in the church gallery, which has thousands of
pictures, and put the part of the body where the person is sick on the altar in
the form of a wax statue of the body part. Doing this they hope the person will
cure again.
George and Karen have to find the youth pictures of the other
contestants. They get an hour to do that. It doesn't take George long to
find Prince's picture.
-------------
Back at the airfield, the plane, with Ellen on top of it, takes off. They
don't know how many letters there are. In order to succeed, everyone has to take
the flight to see all letters. The others cheer at her. Jantien is
looking scared.
CC
Jantien:"It would be devastating if the plane would lose you or
something... that's impossible. I kept thinking about that to comfort myself.
Ellen flies over a G and an H. She lands and tells the
others about it and Jantien writes down the letters.
-------------
Karen finds the picture of Jantien and she's 100 % sure about it.
She also thinks she has foudn Harry, but is doubting. George
doesn't think it is Harry. Karen:"But it's weird that it's
so steamed up." George:"That's just some water that's
between it, don't be fooled by that."
-------------
John goes on the plane and takes off.
CC
John:"You're standing on top of the plane and you have nothing
to hold on to or anything and it's difficult to let go."
He flies over an A. And lands back a few minutes later. He tells
the others it's heavy and cold and that he's only seen one letter: the A. So now
they have GHA. Harry says it's his name (his last name starts with a G).
-------------
30 minutes left to find the pictures. They have Prince, Jantien
and think they have found John but are still doubting.
-------------
Jantien goes. She's obviously scared.
CC
Jantien:"You're standing there and you think 'I'll see what
happens.' and then it starts making a lot of noise, the motor goes at full
speed, so it's one big bang of noise and then you go wham into the air. I didn't
like it, it was going too fast."
-------------
George and Karen or on the roof of the church. They don't know
what the others are doing. One of the routes of the Utterly Butterly is over the
church. They see a small plane arriving. Karen:"Could that be
them?" George:"Maybe they will write something in the
air."
As it's getting closer they have a clearer view. George:"Look
it has a little flag on top of it."
Karen:"No, someone's sitting on it! Holy shit! Someone's
sitting on it!!" They start waving to the plane. George is glad
he didn't have to do that, but Karen thinks it's fantastic. They think
it's Harry on top of the plane, but it's actually Jantien.
George:"Do you think they all have to do this?"
Karen:"Jantien will never do that! Prince and John
will."
George:"And this was Harry? It was weak that he didn't wave
back though!"
-------------
Jantien flies over an S.
CC
Jantien:"I kept on thinking it wasn't real, but it was real. But
I was trying not to panick. I needed a lot of self control to keep calm and to
look to the left and to the right."
Jantien says she has only seen an S, but that the plane
made a lot of weird turns. Mike, the pilot, asks her if this has cured her fear
of heights, but Jantien doesn't think so.
-------------
Karen and George think they've found Ellen's picture and
then see Harry's picture, of which they are 100 % sure. Karen
starts doubting, because she notices some of the pictures they have are real and
some are photocopies. George says they could have done that on purpose.
He isn't doubting, but Karen is. The camera zooms in on a picture which
is clearly John. But they haven't found it yet. However after a while she
does find it and they exchange it with the other pic they had of John.
They only need Ellen know. Karen says she's the most difficult to
find. George thinks they already have Ellen's picture.
-------------
Harry is up.
CC
Jantien:"Harry didn't know if he could really do such a thing,
because he was thinking about his family.... so if he's standing there and the
plane falls down a bit or something... that's scary. I think he will find it
very scary."
Harry:"I thought about it first, whether I could do this,
keeping in mind my responsibilities at home, because I promised I wouldn't do
anything dangerous. And I did do it again. Maybe I have some explanation to do
at home."
He flies over an L and an A.
-------------
George and Karen have found the pictures and now have to put wax
statues of body parts they think the contestants had an illness on in the past.
George jokingly says they have to put the brains with John. Karen
thinks it's the stomach. She also says the belly is for Ellen, the eye
for Jantien and the heart and the leg for Prince. They wonder what
to pick for Harry. Again George jokes that they should take the
head, because Harry's crazy. Karen says that Harry does
have a scar on his face, but she doesn't know which illness he had.
If they put the correct statues with the correct pictures, they win 7,500 €.
Time's almost up, but they're still doubting about Ellen's picture and
start looking for one. Karen:"It has to be a solo picture." George:"With
a black and white or color photocopy."
CC
Karen:"I typify George as a kind of bouncing ball, but he's a
guy with a sharp insight. He sometimes comes up with stuff that are a riddle to
me, but when I think about it it's typified correct in all ways."
George:"What did we take for John?"
Karen:"We took the stomach, because he had a weak
stomach."
Harry:"Did Harry have something with his stomach some
time?"
Karen:"I know Harry has had some respiration problems, but
that's quite recent."
CC
Karen:"I think he's a very fun guy, I like honest and complex
emotions. He's a great a guy. Not a Mole type at all, but he could be able to
play one."
Then they suddenly find a picture of Ellen. They take it
and quickly run back to the altar and replace the previous picture they thought
was Ellen. They have 5 minutes left and check the wax statues again. Karen
is sure about the belly for Ellen, the heart and knee of Prince
which got damaged by rheumatism, the eye of Jantien and she doesn't know
about Harry and John. There aren't any stomachs on the other
altars, so she thinks it's especially made for this challenge and she thinks
it's the head for Harry because of the scar. "I just don't know
anything more about them."
-------------
Prince is the last one to go. They have the letters GHASAL. Ellen
thinks it's WAAGHALS (daredevil), but then they need a W and an A. She doesn't
tell Prince about it to see if they can trust him.
Prince takes off. We see the camera flying over an A and a W.
CC
Prince:"I have seen one letter, the letter A."
He tells the others about it and the word WAAGHALS is correct.
They win 10,000 €.
-------------
Back to the aftermath of the other challenge.... Time is up and they can't
change a thing anymore.
CC
George:"We have failed, I already know. We took the wrong statue
for Harry. We didn't know what illness he had, so we took his head. But I took
another look at the pictures and I noticed Harry has his foot in a plaster, so I
think we're wrong. We should have put a leg there instead of a head. It's very
stupid."
The other contestants arrive at the church to see if the
challenge has succeeded. They start with Ellen who has to come to the
altar. They have the correct picture and the belly is correct too, because she
had an operation there.
Jantien's picture is correct and the eyes are correct too.
Prince's picture is right too. The leg and the heart are correct
according to Prince because it symbolizes rheumatism.
John's picture is correct too. There's a stomach in front of it. John
says he does have a weak stomach. Host:"But you never had an illness or
an operation there?" John:"No, but I didn't have many
operations or anything. I've been quite healthy." George:"So
we shouldn't have put anything there?" John:"But I do
have a weak stomach." The host is kind and approves. They only need Harry's
picture and wax statue correct now to win 7,500 €.
Harry's picture is correct. He obviously is wearing a plaster on the
picture. "But I also had a nose operation." Host:"But
there is no nose." George and Karen said there was no
nose, so they took the head.
Host:"We thought it would be the foot, but ok... unless you're all
lying." Harry:"I am not."
Host:"OK then you win 7,500 €!" She also explains the
other two about the challenge of the others and hands them over the coupons of
the money. First 10,000 € for the plane challenge and then 7,500 € for this
one. The host tells them they have a total of 46,300 € by now. Harry
says he counted it yesterday and they had 23,800 € then. Host:"So
you've lost 5,000 €?"
They have to make sure they guard the money, because what they have is what
they get. If they lose coupons, they won't get that money. Harry:"Well
it had been scattered aroudn in the student bar."
Harry suggests someone else should guard it if they don't trust him,
but they tell him he can keep it.
Suspicions
John:"I think there was a little Mole act yesterday." flashback
Karen:"I thought that wouldn't be in
it, so we didn't go into detail about that and then about the guide, we thought
that wouldn't be relevant for the questions." Maybe she
deliberately didn't give that information. Karen is The Mole."
Harry:"I think I have to follow my intuition and it tells me
it's Karen. I get a lot of clues pointing me to other people and they all come
from the game, but I won't let it distract me from my choice. Because she didn't
pack my toilet bag the first day on the dam. It was the only real Mole action
she did. The only way I will suspect someone else is if Karen has to go
home."
Ellen:"I started with Karen and John as Mole candidates. At
first I spread my answers among them, because I thought it was one of
those two. And now I think I have to make a choice and have to concentrate on
one person. It's still a guess."
Prince:"I'm convinced it's Karen, it's purely a feeling. And
yesterday she said she did know the diameter of the bath and she note a lot
down, but didn't tell it. She also was angry when we we're camping outside once.
Out of rage she yelled 'I'm going home! And then the show won't have a Mole at
all!'." flashback
Karen:"They will have to make do
without a Mole!"
"If Karen isn't The Mole, then Ellen would be my second choice. But for now
it's still Karen."
Jantien:"I think Ellen is The Mole. I hope so, it would be really
good. If she is The Mole she plays it very well. Because there are still a lot
of people who don't know The Mole. So it's great if she's The Mole. I would
really like that, if she plays it well and strong and smart."
George:"I think it's a slumbering Mole, who will wake up when
all of us are tired and will start sabotaging then. Prince is very tired, it
could be a sign. Harry is careless and light-hearted. Ellen is a bit nervous.
Jantien still is my Mole. Prince used to be my number two, but now I'm putting
Ellen on the second spot. Jantien slash Ellen is The Mole."
Karen:"I'm not sure who's The Mole, but I know that I have
only answered the questions with The Mole that I have in mind, so my thoughts
are strenghtened with that. And I like being suspicious and I sense that with
small things."
Suspicious in this episode
Jantien
and Karen didn't tell Harry and George
about the diameter and the guide's name.
Prince didn't see the W.
George and Karen took some wrong pictures, but changed them with
the correct ones in the end. They could be losing time with that.
Elimination
It is time for the fifth person to leave the game. The elimination takes place
in the hangar, with the Utterly Butterly in the background. Who will have to
leave?
