The 3rd Dutch Mole
Episode 5

No one got eliminated last time. Everyone got a green screen. Some of them were offered an exemption for which they had to do a Mole act. A few challenges went very wrong. Apparently someone needed that exemption badly. Everyone stays in the game for another episode.

CC
George:"No one had to go tonight and the exemption has been used."
Harry:"So an exemption has been given to someone and the question is to whom. I think to Kerstin, because she was the first one who called that number."
Kerstin:"If it was given to me, it would mean I had scored the lowest and had the wrong Mole."
Harry:"I think that if she didn't have that exemption tonight, she would have gone home."

Day 9 University of Coimbra

George and Jantien have to teach the band of the University of Coimbra a few Dutch songs. The band can only play it, not sing it. The two contestants can choose 4 songs out of a list of 6:
- Dromen zijn bedrog (Dreams are deceptiive)
- Sinds een dag of 2 (Since a day or 2)<
- Daar gaat ze (There she goes)
- Een beetje verliefd (A little bit in llove)
- Tulpen uit Amsterdam (Tulips from Amstterdam)
- Even aan mijn moeder vragen (Let me assk my mother first)

They sing it as the band tries to play what they sing. They choose 'Sinds een dag of 2' first and laugh a lot. Jantien also sings 'Even aan mijn moeder vragen' and 'Een beetje verliefd'.

Talasnal
Talasnal is an old village in Portugal which hasn't been lived in for 10 years. You can see a picture of it on this page.
The remaining contestants have to divide into 2 groups of 3. Group 1 is Kerstin, Karen and Prince. Group 2 John, Ellen and Harry.
They are going to have to paintball against each other. If they are hit on the white t-shirt, they're out. Kerstin and Karen have to go first. The winner of those two has to go against Prince. The winner of that one has to go against the winner of the second group. They have to predict who will win the entire game of paintball, without knowing who the others have predicted. If the person with the most votes does indeed win, they'll get 10,000 €. If it's wrong they'll lose 10,000 € out of the kitty. The final winner also gets an exemption!
First off:
VS
Karen                                                Kerstin

Karen thinks Prince will win and Kerstin too predicts Prince as winner. The person who wins has to go against Prince.
Kerstin:"I'm going to try to run to the other side of town to get behind the enemy."
They start off. Both are slowly walking around, body pressed against the walls. Kerstin walks up the stairs and is attacked by Karen. Kerstin runs back around the corner, but keeps on standing there. Karen follows her, comes around the corner and shoots her.

Karen:"I thought she was a bit clumsy. She could have made it much more difficult for me if she put some effort in it. She just ran straight into my trap."

Kerstin has to wait until the game is over in some kind of pub. "She was waiting for me, I was completely defenceless."

VS
Karen                                                Prince

Prince predicts John will win.
Karen now has a dilemma: She predicted Prince to be the ultimate winner. Will she let herself get shot to go for the money or will she go for the exemption and shoot him?
They start off. Prince is actively searching Karen. He finds her and starts shooting. His third shot is a hit!
KAren joins KErstin in the pub and tells her story:"I wanted to go around the back... it might have worked out, but I wanted to let him win. So he shot me from the side."

Time for Pool 2. First John has to go against Ellen. The winner will go against Harry and the eventual winner of that battle will go in the finale against Prince.

John                                                    Ellen

John thinks he himself will win and Ellen thinks it will be Prince.
They start off and try to find each other. Through a gap in the wall, John sees Ellen but she hasn't spotted him. So John runs up a stairs to have a clear shot and starts shooting. Ellen hears it, turns around and shoots back. She hits him.

John:"I had a great spot. Ellen didn't see me, so I went higher and shot, but I forgot to turn off the safety pal and it was over for me."

VS
Ellen                                                   Harry

It is not shown who Harry predicts as the winner.
Both are walking in the small town slowly. Suddenly Harry comes running past Ellen very quickly! Ellen goes after him. Harry hits her on the helmet, but it only counts when they're hit on the t-shirt. Ellen hits Harry and he's out.

Harry:"I could have earned myself an exemption, but I wouldn't have taken it. I would have gone for the 10,000 €. Weird huh, because I'm not in it for the money, butin this case I would choose for the group. I will take the next examption."

Harry joins the other 3 who have been shot. Karen:"Who did you vote for?" Harry:"Prince."
Kerstin:"OK so that's 3 people."
Karen:"Yeah if Prince wins we'll probably have th money then!"
Harry:"I was doubting between Prince and Ellen and they are up against each other now. So if Prince wins, we have the 10,000 €?"
Karen:"Yes, so I didn't want to shoot at Prince because I wanted Prince to win."

Harry:"Well she let Prince win and she tells that to us so explicitely... She's just trying to push us off her tracks, but we won't fall for that."

Finale
VS
Prince                                                 Ellen

If Prince wins, they will get 10,000 € because he got most votes to be the winner. Now Ellen has a dilemma to deal with, because she voted Prince to win. But if she wins, she will get an exemption.
They start off. The others are watching them from a distance. Suddenly Prince and Ellen see each other and start shooting. It takes a long time, but in the end Prince gets hit! They have to pay 10,000 € and Ellen has the exemption. They now have 28,800 in the kitty.

Ellen:"I won and that really surprised me, because it's not his style to just expose himself like that. He made a wrong judgement or he did it deliberately. Maybe he wanted to get hit."
John:"Ellen went for the exemption even though she said she didn't need it and because of that we lost 10,000 €, so it could have been an act of sabotage. But Ellen isn't The Mole to me."

Coimbra
Everyone meets in a students pub to hear the band perform which was taught by George and Jantien. They have to tell which contestant has to guess the song. If they all guess it correctly, they win 5,000 €.
For the first song they choose Harry. He immediately recognizes 'Tulpen uit Amsterdam' and sings along loudly. Everyone starts singing
For the second song, George and Jantien choose Prince and Ellen. The band starts playing and they don't recognize it at first. But after a while Prince guesses the right title: 'Sinds een dag of 2'.
Karen, Kerstin and John have to guess song 3. Kerstin knows it and starts singing it, quickly followed by the others. John knows the title: 'Een beetje verliefd'
The last song is for them all. Just a few notes are played and they already know it. 'Even aan mijn moeder vragen'.
They guess all songs correctly and win 5,000 €, making a total of 33,800 €. They sing and dance and have lots of fun. Some are interviewed separetely:
Jantien:"It's a super great day. Nice and easy, no nagging from the others, singing and the band was absolutely great."
Kerstin:"The paintballgame didn't work out well, so I was a bit down, but then I came here and it's one big party."

Everyone is dancing, while Harry counts the money.

5:30 am
Two intruders enter Hotel Astoria where the contestants stay at. They go to Kerstin's room, wake her up, put on handcuffs and take her along with them. She is photographed holding a paper 'Diário Coimbra'.

Day 10 Coimbra
Everyone arrives at breakfast. Kerstin's seat stays empty. They wonder where she is and Harry goes to the reception desk. They try to call her, but she doesn't answer and the people of the reception desk have the key to her room. Harry tells the rest she's missing.

Serra do Buçaco
Kerstin is in a hut somewhere in a forest.

Kerstin:"I was put in a room and they removed my blindfold and I could see where they had put me. I didn't see how I got into the hut, I could only see where I was then, so I didn't have any starting points. I looked out of the window, but it was so very misty, I could only see 20 metres or something."
George:"Kerstin wasn't at the breakfast table, she was gone. We went up to her room and the challenge started."
Prince:"We went to search her room and then we got a clue from the reception desk. There was a phone call for us."

John takes the phone call. Host:"John, listen carefully, Kerstin has been kidnapped. You have to find her and free her before 12 o'clock. If you succeed, you get 10,000 €. If it doesn't, you'll have to pay me 5,000 €. At the reception desk you will find 2 clues which will lead you to the place she's locked up at and to places where you will find keys to free her. You get two phones to communicate with each other. Good luck."
To free Kerstin they will need 2 keys. One for her handcuffs, which hang on the only church in the village and one to her cell, which can be found in the Buçaco Palace.
It's 10:16 am when they start and get the clues from the reception desk: two envelopes. One contains the picture with Kerstin posing with the newspaper. It has 10,000 € written on it. The other one contains a postcard with a building on it. John asks the receptionist if he knows where it is. The receptionist looks at the back of the postcard, which says it's from Luso, some 25 km away. He finds it's the Buçaco Palace. The icon on it is the same as in the background on the picture of Kerstin.

The host meanwhile explains Kerstin the challenge. She also explains that Kerstin gets 3 opportunities to call the others. She can call them for 1 minute each time.

It's 10:43 and they finally leave the hotel. They are split in two groups. Group 1 is John, Prince, George and Karen. The other group are Harry, Ellen and Jantien. Each group tries to find a key, because they need both keys to free Kerstin.
The phone rings in the car of group 2 and Jantien answers it. It's Kerstin:"I've been kidnapped, I don't know if you know."
Jantien:"Yes we're already on our way to find you."
Kerstin:"That's great." Jantien:"Have you seen something of the environment where you are?"
Kerstin:"What did you say?"
Host:"30 seconds have passed already."
Kerstin:"I've only got 1 minute to talk, so I'm going to tell you what happened. The kidnappers talk me along the parking lot and they had something to do with Villa Nova de Gaia in the neighbourhood of Porto, I don't know whether..." Jantien tells Ellen to remember Villa Nova de Gaia.
Kerstin:"It's in a smaal village, we went all the way up on a sandy road and we drove up hill for about 10 minutes and..."
Jantien:"Hang on, you went up hill there?"
Kerstin:"Jantien I've got to stop, bye!"
Jantien calls Prince in the other group and explains what she's heard.

Kerstin:"I understood that the two teams were trying to find me. That was a comforting thought because it got very cold in the meantime and I sat on the floor, which was very cold."

Group 1 has arrived at the Capela do Luso. Kerstin calls them, Prince answers the phone.
Kerstin:"Prince, very quick, the place I told you about, Villa Nova de Gaia is a tourismo. You go a bit upwards where you have a lovely view from where you go down a sandy road for ten minutes until you arrive in a small village where they have little clay huts . I'll call you later on."
Meanwhile Prince is signaling the others to be quiet. The others have found the key. When Kerstin hangs up, Prince wants to tell them the important information he just got.
Prince:"It was something about Villa Nova de Gaia... it went so fast... where people used to live..." Karen:"The key!"
Prince:".. where people used to live..." Karen:"We've got the key!" Prince:"And we had to go there. Villa Nova de Gaia..." Karen:"Yeah yeah I wrote it down! We found the key and this piece of paper with a text." Prince:"We can read that in the car." George:"Villa Nova de Gaia is 50 km away from here."
But Karen insists on finding out what's on the paper first and she asks someone. The text says 'At this place we commemorate the dead bodies which have been burried here'. John:"Is she down here somewhere then?" George:"She's not a dead body."

John:We got a phone call from Kerstin, we had to look for this place, but that was 150 km away, which was impossible, cause it would be a 3 hour drive."

It's 11:30 and group 2 is close to the hut where Kerstin is at. They are at the Buçaco Palace. Jantien recalls what she heard from Kerstin. They get a map on which the clay huts are indicated. Kerstin is trapped in one of those. They run around in the forest and call her name.

11:43 Kerstin calls Prince again, but Karen talks through it telling John the directions.
Kerstin:"If you arrive in the village Villa Nova de Gaia..."
Prince:"It can't be Villa Nova de Gaia, it's 150 km away."
Kerstin:"OK, something that ressembles it. Go to the highest point, which should be a panorama point, then go down the sandy road. and up the stone stairs. You will see the clay huts and I'm in the hut which is the farthest to the right."
They have arrived at a barrier and John asks if they can go through it because they are from television. They can, but because of the fuss and confusion, Prince didn't quite hear Kerstin's last words.
Prince:"Farthest right?"
Kerstin:"I've got to go now, bye!"
Prince wants to tell the others what he heard from Kerstin, but gets interrupted again by George who wants to show something on the paper with the text. Prince calls the others first. Jantien answers and tells him they are close, but can't find it.

Jantien:"I had to call and give information to the rest. I was glad I didn't have to read any maps, because then they would all say "Oh yeah it's her, it will go completely wrong again.'."

Jantien tells the others what Prince told her.
Meanwhile Kerstin is shouting for help through her window.
Jantien and Ellen leave Harry behind in the forest and go back to the Buçaco Palace.
The first group has arrived closely by car and get out to find the hut together with Harry.
11:50 Kerstin is shouting to get higher and John and Prince find her. They can free her from her handcuffs, but the second key to open the hut still hasn't been found by Jantien and Ellen. They call Jantien and tell her they need another key.
Ten seconds left. Ellen finds the key in the Buçaco Palace. But they don't make it back in time and the challenge has failed. John calls them and tells them it's over. There's 28,800 € in the kitty.

The Buçaco Palace is a hotel. It's where they stay at that night. They are talking about the challenge.
Jantien:"It went wrong at two points for me. One: we didn't have the little key, we didn't know we had to get one. And two, sorry, but you and Harry were messing up with the map."
Ellen:"I never understood that we had to go to Calvario or Sepulcro."

Karen:"I had told Jantien to go to the Sepulcro, but apparently nothing happened with that information. And then she said she couldn't maps and that everyone was just running around and I think that's strange. So I guess it fits in Jantien's role as The Mole."

Ellen:"We just didn't know we had to find another key."
Harry:"Well in the Astoria Hotel they told us to find two keys. But I didn't think about it anymore either."

CC
George:"We found a key in the village and they forgot to look for a key in the building. That's stupid."
Harry:"If someone tells me were to go, I have already forgotten it 3 minutes later. The same goes for Jantien. For Ellen a bit less. But somehow we just didn't do well."
Ellen:"We didn't think about it well enough and I don't like it at all."

Suspicions
Kerstin:"Karen is The Mole. Because no one is so hard to approach as she is. And no one had so much advantages from the situation at the cave two days ago." flashback Karen:"This is totally wrong. Totally wrong. And I'm going to leave! I won't participate in this!"
Prince:"I'm still voting for Karen. Ellen is my second choice. Ellen is getting really suspicious and I'm keeping that in mind." flashback The host asks Ellen who she thinks will win the paintball game. We see her shooting Prince and then hear her answer "Prince." Followed by the host:"Well Ellen, you have got the exemption, well done!"
John:"Karen is The Mole. Even though a lot of strange things happen in the group, but I'm sticking to her." flashback  Prince:"Villa Nova de Gaia..." Karen:"Yeah yeah I wrote it down! We found the key and this piece of paper with a text." Prince:"We can read that in the car." George:"Villa Nova de Gaia is 50 km away from here."
But Karen insists on finding out what's on the paper first and she asks someone.  "I'm not suspecting anyone else yet."
Jantien:"John and Prince are not Moles to me and Karen isn't a good Mole either because  she's too emotional. Harry is too sweet to be The Mole. My Mole after today still is Ellen."
Harry:"It just has to be Karen. She even yelled it during that crisis at the cave. 'I'm leaving! The Mole is going home!'." flashback  Karen:"They will have to make do without a Mole!" "I've chosen my Mole and I'm only watching The Mole now. She's keeping a low profile and the challenges are just there to make others look suspicious but I won't fall for that."
George:"Yesterday I chose Jantien, because I wanted to be with Jantien for a day, because I'm suspecting her. And today I chose to be in the group with Prince because he could also be The Mole. If you're close to The Mole you can see how they react and what they sabotage. Yesterday, Jantien didn't sabotage and today Prince didn't sabotage anything, so I'm left behind at the moment."
Karen:"I still think Jantien could be a real Mole. I found Kerstin a possible Mole long time now. She sometimes isolates herself. She looks at everything very analytically and says she's been preparing herself for this which could fit with The Mole."

CC
John:"I think George will go home tonight. And I think you have to go for one Mole and not bet on two."
Harry:"I think George will have to leave today because he suspects Jantien I think. And she isn't The Mole. I don't think George is on the right track."

Suspicious in this episode
Jantien and George are laughing and playing a lot when they are supposed to teach the band the songs.
Karen tells everyone very explicitly how she let Prince win because she voted for him to win in the paintball.
John votes for himself to win and forgets to put off his safety pal. He's shot and his vote is wasted.
Ellen shoots Prince, losing the group all the money, but winning an exemption for herself.
Group 2 (Jantien, Ellen and Harry) forgot to get the second key.
Karen and George constantly interrupt Prince when he has received important information.

Elimination
Ellen has an exemption. She won't be going tonight. But who will?
