The 3rd Dutch Mole
Episode 2
The first victim is eliminated. It was Erik. 9 contestants and 1 mole continue.
Day 3 Porto station
They have to divide into 3 groups:
3 thinkers:

Karen
George
Jantien
3 workers:

Harry
John
Prince
4 dreamers:

Kerstin
Pamela
Ellen
Dick
The dreamers are taken away as the others stay at the station.
The next challenge can earn them 5,000 €, or cost them 5,000 € if
they fail.
First they have to find the painter of all the beautiful wall paintings in the
station. Karen say Jorge Golaco and Georgefinds his name on one of
the paintings. They have a laptop and have to enter the name behind the "http://www.go.to/".
The cool thing is that those pages still exist! George enters http://www.go.to/jorge.golaco
and finds the instructions there. Just in case the page doesn't work anymore,
I'll put the information here too. They see two pictures:
The
site tells the thinkers to take the train east until they see the thing on the
picture you see on the left. If they see it, they have to get off at the next
station. It also tells them to follow the music so they find a new URL. At the
original website, there was music in the background.
The workers have to find an item that has something to do with the picture on the right. The workers take the car. Prince calls George, who's on the train and tells him they need instructions because they have to follow them. George asks Karen where they're going and she says it's Regua.
CC
Prince:"It wasn't very clear what we had to do. We got very
little information from the thinkers.
They're still on the phone with each other. George:"No
clue, we don't have a clue yet."
Prince:"George? The connection's broken..."
George:"He hung up!"
Karen:"It went like that yesterday too, the phone just went
off."
George calls Prince again and lets him listen to the music on
the website. Prince passes the phone around to the other two so they can
listen too. Prince thinks it has something to do with death, whereas Harry
thinks it's Portuguese music.
Matteus Palace
The dreamers are taken to Matteus Palace. Angela, the host:"After
the hectic two days I have a great challenge for you. Are you feeling tired?
Well, take a look over here, find yourself a nice bed and get yourself connected
with the wires, put on the videogoggles and try to sleep for 10 hours with the
four of you." So the four get wires on them, which
registrate when they are actually sleeping. They get videogoggles with relaxing
music and beautiful sceneries. What they don't know is that between the relaxing
movies in, information is given about the activities of the thinkers and the
workers. They see fish and a diver in the ocean, a beach and then all of a
sudden a bike is portrayed. We see Ellen smiling. Kerstin takes
off her goggles and looks at the time. She's missing vital information.
A while later they see the ocean again, until a guitar appears. It disappears
again and the ocean turns op again. But then suddenly a table is portrayed.
Meanwhile, the workers are thinking about the situation. Harry:"If
the Mole is in the train, this could work out really bad for us." Prince:"Yeah,
because we depend from them."
In the train, the three thinkers are very bored and staring outside through
the window. All of sudden Jantien shouts out:"Hey! I saw it! Over
there!" George:"Nah you didn't." Jantien:"No
really I did! Over there!" She saw the watertank they had to look for
and get off at the next station. Jantien:"F*ck I nearly missed
it. It was like I suddenly woke up."
CC
Jantien:"From the train it looked really different than the
picture on the internet. If you just blinked your eyes, the thing had already
gone past you, because it was standing very close to the railway and a mole
action can happen very quickly, even by a non-mole."
The thinkers are listening to the music again. Suddenly Jantien
sings:"Koffie, koffie, lekker bakkie koffie (coffee, coffe a nice
cup of coffee - a Dutch song) ... I only know the chorus."
CC
George:"It was very difficult to recognise."
Karen:"When Jantien said it was that song... I have... even
now, I can't recognise it in there!"
George:"It is the song indeed! You're
right!" Jantien:"Koffie, koffie, lekker bakkie
koffie???" George enters it on the internet, but it doesn't
work. They decide to go to the nearest pub to have a cup of coffee. Jantien
tells Prince on the phone that they're going to drink a cup of coffee to
find out the next challenge. Prince repeats it in disbelief.
The thinkers go to drink some coffee and look around for clues,. Time is
ticking, but they still haven't find the next hint.
CC
Karen:"It was very clear how all three of us had a different way
of thinking"
George:"Everything was very drastic, people acted without
talking about it first. It didn't work."
Karen asks who's the owner of the pub. The waiter says
it's Jose Pinto de Sousa and she enters it on the internet. http://www.go.to/jose.pinto.de.sousa

The
page tells them to continue taking the train eastwards and get out when they see
the church depicted on the left.
They are also told to take a look at the picture of the man on the right and to call the workers and tell them what they have to take along with them. The thinkers don't recognise the man. Then the workers arrive at the pub and they take a look too. Harry recognises the man and says it's Joop Soetemelk, a Dutch cyclist. So the workers know they have to take a bicycle along with them, together with a table of the first clue.
The thinkers take the train eastwards. After a while George
sees the church tower already. They get off at the next stop.
The workers are driving in the car, looking for a bicycle. John
is driving, Harry's sitting next to him and Prince is in the
backseat. Harry:"If you're tired of driving, just tell me and
I'll take over." John:"I enjoy driving, but if you
really want to..." Harry:"No that's ok. I like driving
but... I've still got another 3 weeks to drive." A short silence sets
in.... John repeats:"You've still got another 3 weeks to
drive?" Harry:"Yeah." John:"So
you're The Mole?" Harry:"Yes!"
They find a set of wheels for a bicycle and take those along with them.
The
thinkers have found the next website http://www.go.to/casa.da.crianca
.
They are told to take the train north and to get off when they see what's
depicted on the left. It is their final station and they have to tell the
workers where they are, because the workers have to get them from the station
and they have to arrive at the Matteus Palace together, where the dreamers are.
There also is a poem. The thinkers have to fill in the gaps to see what the
workers have to collect. Of course, it's not difficult to find the solution,
because they have the internet to their disposal. George:"It's
headphones, they have to get headphones!"
He calls Prince to tell them to get some headphones. They find a
table too and tie it to the roof of the car. They arrive at the station where
they wait for the thinkers and they drive to the dreamers together.
Meanwhile, the host wakes the dreamers:"You can take off
your goggles. And those sensors and wires were all fake, because the wires end
in the toilet in the next room." Pamela:"You're kidding!
I was all strangled in them."
Host:"It was all about something completely different. Between the
relaxing images, you saw pictures that didn't belong there. Have you seen
them?" Dick:"A guitar!" Ellen:"A
table and a bike."
The others arrive too and the host explains what the dreamers
have done. The items the dreamers have seen, should be the items the workers
have collected. The table is correct, the wheels are correct too, but the
headphones... Host:"How did you get the headphones?" George:"From
the poem." Karen:"Of Ali Albazas." George:"I
will read it out. 'Too bad that we have to put a feather in front of our ears
these days, even till deafness, so that we don't get into a fight with the noise
maker'... out of that poem we found headphones."
Host:"But weren't there any words missing?" George:"That
was the second part of the poem, but we didn't find that." Host:"And
you didn't check the internet? Because then you would have found that the
missing words were strings and guitars! So the challenge is failed! You lose
5,000 €." There's 19,000 € in the kitty. The contestants stay at
the Matteus Palace.
CC
Harry:"It's a pity that there are some people these days who you
don't have any contact with. I was in a group of 3 and what the rest did, I
don't know anything about because I wasn't there. I have to hear it from stories
after the challenge."
The contestants are at the pool and talking about the challenge.
Karen:"We were litterally cheering in that train. 'Yes, we've got
it!'. But this has been a mole action, really that's how I feel about it and it
went very subtle. I feel very..." Harry:"But in which
group then?"
Karen:"In our group!"
Harry:"So the Mole is in your group?"
Karen:"That's what I think..."
Harry:"Phew.... heavy!"
CC
Prince:"Karen... is playing it very tactically to try and put
others on the wrong track."
John:"She's trying to blame the others too much and mingles
in everything too much."
Still at the pool: Kerstin:"Prince, do you also
think it's their fault or your group's fault too?"
Prince:"Absolutely not our group. Really, it might be cruel
saying it that way, but it was the thinkers."
Harry:"So it must be Jantien!"
CC
Jantien (shaking her head):"I heard it.. they were talking about
who would be the Mole and that Kerstin said what a typical mole action it was.
I'm a really happy I was in the group of the thinkers."
Karen:"The most intruiging about all this is that I'm aware
that I've seen the mole in action from a very short distance... and I don't know
how!"
Day 4 Villa Matteus
At the breakfast table. Pamela:"We all got an envelope. Every one
of us. I think only one of them contains something, because we have been feeling
the other ones."
Jantien:"I have got the thick envelope. I could be The Mole,
I could stay and then you have no problem, then you can open it when you want. I
could also be eliminated tonight. Then I disappear, together with this envelope.
Now the question is, what do you guys want?"
Pamela:"Let's just all open our envelopes one by one."
John opens his envelope, looks in it and says there's nothing in it. Kerstin:"Rip
it open, so we can all see it!" So he rips it open and shows the others
that it's really empty.
Dick opens his envelope too, looks in it and says:"There's
nothing in it."
John:"Wait a second, rip it open!"
Dick:"You don't believe me?"
John:"It's not about believing you. If I rip it open,
everybody rips it open."
Jantien:"Yes, everybody has to rip it open."
Dick:"But there's really nothing in it! I think you guys are
really...."
John:"No you just play along and rip it open."
And so he does. It is empty indeed. All envelopes are empty, except for Jantiens
one. It contains a lot of paper and smaller papers with a phone number on it.
She starts reading the letter:"Dear Karen.... Even though you were told
by Angela not to open the envelope, you did it anyway."
Prince:"Maybe there's a letter for everyone." They
look at it and it turns out there's a letter for every one of them. Jantien
starts handing them over to the others. Kerstin:"I want everyone
to read their letter aloud!" Jantien:"They're all the
same."
CC
Harry:"The letter said we could call a certain number and that
it would have advantage for you or at least have some consequences."
Karen:"We got a secret number where you have to call the
Mole. I don't know what to think about it."
Regua at the Douro
They have to select two ladies who have some weight. Kerstin and Karen
are chosen. They have to dress as Portugese grapepickers and make sure the
others don't recognise them. If they succeed, one of them can win an exemption,
a free pass to the next episode. They dress up and get in contact with the local
culture. They're singing and dancing, pounding and picking grapes.
CC
Karen:"I found it quite hard that we could only win 1 free pass
and that we might have to contest it who would get it. I offered it to
Kerstin."
Kerstin:"I did not expect that offer at all. If she doesn't
know about anything, I find that really strange."
The remaining contestants have to appoint one person for a
little job. They choose Dick, who gets on the police boat. The others
each have to select a water vehicle which suits them. George immediately
runs to the waterski's.
They have to do a regatta and have to get as far away as possible. Everyone gets
4 minutes, but motorised vehicle users only get 2 minutes. For each meter they
advance, they get 1 €. Harry starts in an inflattable canoe. He seems
to have difficulties with it and only advances 25 meters in 4 minutes.
CC
Harry:"I can't sail, I can't waterski. So I thought I'd take
something I thought I was good at."
John:"Harry wanted to take the inflattable crocodile at first
and luckily he didn't. So the canoe was good."
John and Ellen share a hydrocycle together. They
advance 250 meters.
CC
Ellen:"I noticed that in the beginning, when you feel you're
both giving the same power to it, he kept on falling back and falling back. The
hydrocycle went to the left, which means I was giving more power into it."
John:"I think I did my best at it. I was really tired
afterwards too."
Pamela uses the jetski and speeds off. In 2 minutes, she
advances 2,100 meters! They already have a total of 2,375 €.
Jantien has a little sailing boat. For each meter they advance, they get
1 €. But for each meter they go back, they lose 1 €. Jantien has
difficulties getting forward upstream of the river. She's slowly drifting
backwards. The rudder is broken, so she takes it off and uses it to peddle to
the side where she keeps on waiting till time is up. She's gone 50 meters back,
meaning it cost them 50 €.
CC
Jantien:"I'm very good at sailing, but not upstream a river. And
not in such a little boat either. I had to hold the sail myself and the rudder
kept on falling off."
Prince uses a kayak and advances very quickly. He's
exhausted. George, who has the waterskis, also advances a lot: 1,400
meters. They have a total of 4,100 €.
But the challenge isn't over yet! Now Dick has to swim back to the point
they started at. He can use a sailing board to lie on. For each minute he takes,
they lose 25 €. Dick starts off very slowly and nearly advances. The
others laugh about how slow he is.
CC
Prince:"He started off really slow, like a snail and everyone
was thinking 'Jeez! Come on! Get started!'."
John:"We all saw him swimming and we all thought 'This is
wrong, that man is so slow!'."
Dick:"It was really heavy. Luckily it wasn't upstream."
They are shouting instructuions to him. 12 minutes have past
already. Only 700 more meters to go. They all decide to jump in the water to
encourage him. They swim along with him till the end. Dick arrives at the
finish after 24 minutes and 12 seconds. Everyone apologizes for making fun of
him. 600 € is substracted and they win 3,500 €. The host hands it over to John,
who is now keeping the kitty.
CC
Prince:"But afterwards, when we were all swimming along, we
noticed how tough it was. He did a fantastic job!"
Harry:"So I think he tried the best he could."
The group is split. Jantien, John, Pamela
and Harry have to find either Karen or Kerstin between a
group of people who are pounding grapes. They get 4 minutes and will win 2,500
€ if it works out. They watch a monitor and the camera only films the legs of
the people. Pamela:"Karen has bad hips, she can't lift her legs
that high." John:"I don't think it's the first one,
because that person keeps on looking in our direction now and then and if you're
trying to win an exemption, you're not doing that." John thinks
it's the second one and they go for that person.
The person walks towards them, face covered with the hands. She stops and looks
up to the others. It's Karen! Everyone cheers and the host tells her she
doesn't win an exemption. Jantien:"Oh that must suck, huh?" Karen:"Phew
I've been working really hard!"
CC
John:"Out of that too, I conclude that she must be the Mole,
because she wasn't disappointed at all and just started talking about what a
lovely day she'd had. And she didn't even say she was disappointed."
Prince, Dick, Ellen and George have
to find Kerstin in a field where people are picking grapes. The camera
only shows the hands of the people. But they don't know whether they have to
find Kerstin or Karen. After a while they think they've found her.
Ellen:"I think it's Kerstin. Shall we go for Karen or for
Kerstin?"
George:"Let's go for Karen."
Prince:"No, Kerstin!"
They think it's Kerstin they have found. A woman comes walking
towards them. And it turns out to be Kerstin indeed. The group cheers.
Host:"No exemption, but 2,500 € towards the kitty." Kerstin:"I'm
exhausted!!"
Prince:"Too bad for the exemption, girl." Ellen:"Yeah,
what a pity."
Kerstin:"It was a fantastic day! You have no idea what I have
done! Dancing! Eating! Singing!"
CC
Pamela:"I thought the reactions of both ladies who could win a
free pass, were very... like 'Oh too bad, oh well doesn't matter, we had a great
day.' If I could have won a free pass and it didn't work out, I would feel
something like 'SH*T! Such bad luck!'."
Suspicions
Prince:"George could be The Mole. He was in the thinkers
group and he absolutely did not belong there, because he's more of a dreamer to
me."
John:"I think Karen's The Mole." Flashback
Karen:"But this has been a mole action, really that's how I feel about it and it
went very subtle." John:"The
mole's strategy is to put suspicion on other people."
Harry:"Yesterday after the swimming she said the Mole was in
her group and she pushed suspicion towards George that way. I'm starting to see
through her devious game. Karen is The Mole."
George:"I've got 2 suspects: Karen or Ellen."
Karen:"I feel I'm on the right track as of who The Mole is
and I feel that a lot of people think it's me, so they are wrong. And people
think George is very suspicious but not really capable enoug hto be The Mole and
I don't think people are suspecting Jantien. I already thought Jantien could
easily be The Mole and I still do."
Jantien:"There will probably be people who suspect me, but
there will also be people who suspect Karen or George. We were the saps. I still
think Ellen is The Mole, I don't know. I'm starting to doubt of course."
Pamela:"It's very difficult how on earth to decide who's The
Mole. I've changed names so many times already. I really don't know."
Dick:"I'm doubting between George, but there's too much
attention towards him at the moment. Karen would be a possible Mole. If you play
the role of The Mole in such a way, you'll be caught real soon and that's not
supposed to happen. I'm starting to doubt again."
Ellen:"John found Karen today. It wasn't such a difficult
task, so he maybe he thought he would throw people of his scent by chosing the
correct person. So he could still be The Mole even though he was the strongest
link in last challenge."
Kerstin:"I'm sticking to the first person I thought of, which
is Karen."
Suspicious in this episode
The thinkers group messed up.
Did Harry spill the beans about his true identity?
According to Ellen, John didn't do his best on the hydrocycle.
Pamela and George got very far in the regatta. This meant that Dick
had to swim back a long way, costing more time.
Jantien went downstream and lost money that way.
Dick wasn't really quick.
