The 3rd Dutch Mole
Episode 10

Ellen was the last one to leave. Three people play the finale now. One will be the winner, one the loser and The Mole will finally be revealed!!

Day 19 Fortalesa de Peniche
The yarrive at an ancient fortress which has a lot of tunnels and rooms underground. They have to follow a route. There are red and green entries. They have to go through all green entries. On their way they will find things which can help them. John gets balloons, a candle and some matches. If they make it within 2 hours they win 10,000 €. If not, they have to pay 5,000 €.
They will have to work together to get each other out of the dungeons and get to the end.(picture received from www.wieisdemol.com )
On this scheme you can see the route they have to follow. John will be at the start. George will be in room 1 and Jantien in room 5. As you can see, she has 2 red doors, so she has to get out through the roof.

Jantien is dropped in room 5 and George is in room 1. John is at the start, looking down in a kind of well he sees George. There's a rope in the room, but he doesn't know how to get it up to John, because it's difficult to throw up throught the hole. John asks if George knows where Jantien is and George calls her name, but she can't hear him.

Jantien:"I was alone in a room under the ground with two red doors I couldn't go through and I had to wait till the guys got me out through the hole above me."

George has found a bottle of helium gas. John throws the balloons to him through the hole so they can be filled with gas. A small wire is attached to the balloons and the other end to the rope, so the balloons pull the rope up to the hole in the roof where John is standing. John gets the rope, ties it to the well and comes down into the room 1. Together they go to room 2 where they find one green door (the doors are covered with either a green or a red board). John takes the board and puts it aside, so they can got through to room 3. Again they see a green board and John takes it and puts it aside.However, there's a wall behind that board. They have to find another way out. George sees a rope with an unlit torch underneath it. With the candle and the matches they set the rope on fire. It burns and breaks. The other end of the rope was above Jantien's room and a walkie talkie falls down into her room.She asks if the others can hear her and they do. She tells them she can't get out and that there's a harness with bottles of water hanging above her and she has to come out through the hole above her. John tells her they are stuck too, because of the wall behind the green board. They decide to cut through the wall with the axe which is laying on the ground there.

John:"I immediately thought it was impossible. With my experience I knew it would take half a day to get through that wall. But George was very fanatic and continued cutting into the wall."

The host tells them they have one and a half hour left. George:"To cut through a wall?!" Host:"You know, nothing is what it seems to be."
John find a wall which seems to be fake, because it's filled with cement and starts cutting. George throws a big rock against it, trying to break through.

George:"Immediately we noticed we were trying to get through another hard wall. And we were knocking on the walls trying to find something."

They keep on searching and suddenly they find the fake wall. It was behind the big green board which was covering the other wall. John had put it in front of the fake wall.

John:"Eventually we found the fake wall, made of some kind of isolation material. George had put the green board in front of the real exit. So we found that pretty late."
George:"The door was hidden twice. One because it was made life like and second because we had put the green door in front of it." Flashback We see John putting the green door in front of the real exit.

John crawls through the hole they cut and they reach room 4. But there is no immediate passway to Jantien who's in room 5. She can see them through a whole in the wall. John finds a rope in his room. He lowers it and so Jantien gets the harness which is attached to some bottles of water so it could come down easily. She puts on the harness and George and John try pulling the rope in the other room. That way they can pull Jantien out through the roof.
One hour and 12 seconds left. Jantien is out of her room and lets a rope ladder go down into the room the boys are in so they can climb out. Both are out. The host tells them they still have an hour left. George thinks they made it, but they still have to go down into another room, because they need to have visited all rooms. To get into room 6 they have to use a rope to climb down. However, the rope is too short, so they have to let themselves fall into the darkness beneath them, not knowing where they will land. John's first and warns George about it. He falls down and lands on a big inflated pillow. George is next.

George:"I thought I had conquered a big part of my fear of heights, but this was very scary again. You reach they end of the rope and you can't see anything below you. John was down already and he said there were mattresses. But it's just so unnatural to let yourself drop into a hole. Scary, really scary..."

Jantien is last to go. John tells her it's safe and she too let's go and drops on the pillow. They walk through a door to room 7 where they find an arrow with ropes. They need that for room 8, which has balloons in it. The balloons are attached to some wooden beams. If they shoot the balloons, the beams will slowly drop. The beams can be put into holes in the room to climb up to the top and get out to reach the finish. But there's only one way to reach the top with those beams. There are 4 of them and they will need to take them up to reach higher.
18 minutes left and they start puzzling.

Jantien:"It's absolutely nothing for me to build some structure with beams to get out of the room. It was fun, but not my kind of thing."
George:"She said she didn't like it, but I think she just wantedthe challenge to fail."

4 minutes left and John has climbed out, but they have a very unstable weird structure with the beams. Because of that, Jantien and George are afraid to come out and give up.

George:"I think we solved it in a very creative way, but just the final part wasn't quite right. I felt very unsafe to stand on an unstable beam and walk to an iron kind of ladder. But Jantien didn't do it either."

They have to pay 5,000 € from the kitty. John hands over the coupons worth 5,000 €. The host asks them how much money they have now. John:"39,300 minus 5,000." Jantien:"34,300 €."
Host:"Are you sure?"
Jantien:"Yes we counted it yesterday."
Host:"Because according to my information it should be much more. You are missing 15,000 €."
They don't know what to say. George asks where it is and says he's going to search through John's bag. George:"Did you lose it?" John:"Guys, I don't know where it is either."
Jantien:"It's just fake money..."
George:"No it isn't! Get lost!"

Day 20 Porto de Peniche
The contestants are taken to the island Ilha da Berlenga. It's their last chance to win money and to find clues about their Mole. The boat reaches a bay and they swim to the beach, where the host is waiting for them with a treasure map. This challenge is worth 12,000 €. On the treasure map are three short texts which will lead to a treasure. Each contestant reads a text.
Jantien:"The sleeping whale has woken up, because of the rhythm of the waves. Disturbed by noise at its tail, where the treasure is hidden under rocks."
John:"The three treasure hunters, looking for success and without scruples, will find their way to the giant elephant, where more gold is hidden in the ground."
George:"But beware, mortal being who is reading this. You might be searching courageous and without fear. Your destiny awaits, so be afraid, in the yawning jaws of the hungry hippopotamus."
At those spots they will find money. They get a boat and swimming and diving equipment to find it. However, the money which is found by The Mole, will be taken off of their kitty in the end. There are three masses of rocks around the island where they will find money: at the tail of a whale, in the jaws of a hippo and somewhere near an elephant. The money is in bottles. If they find a bottle, they'll have to decide who's going to take it, because if The Mole gets it, it will be deducted from the kitty. They get an hour and a half to find all bottles.
They head off and after a while, Jantien thinks she sees the rock formation of a whale. She tells the others, but they're doubting.

Jantien:"That whale... it turned out not to be the right one, because it was too dangerous to get out there so we were thinking 'Do we have to get into that wild water here?'."

Jantien:"I really think it's a whale. Don't you?"
John decides to sail along. Apparently they have some kind of discussion. Jantien asks John:"So you're saying I can't go into the water?" John:"I'm not saying anything."

John:"There was a bit of a discussion who could get which bottle, because of The Mole got a bottle, it would go out of the kitty. So we had a little argument about that."

After 15 minutes, they find the mass of rocks that looks like a whale.

John puts on the flippers to dive under water. He asks if Jantien is sure he can go and she agrees. The bottle John has found is worth 5,000 €. But they won't know until tomorrow if it will be added or deducted from the kitty.

John:"Jantien told me she didn't want George to go into the water. So that means she actually said George is The Mole and if he takes the money, we've lost it. She could have put me on a wrong track that way. She startled a bit that she said that."
George:"John found the bottle, which was 5 metres under water. I don't think I could have been able to do that, dive down 5 metres with such a suit that won't sink. But he had the bottle."

There's one hour left and they're heading towards a big inlet with a small beach. It looks like a yawning hippo.
Flashback George:"But beware, mortal being who is reading this. You might be searching courageous and without fear. Your destiny awaits, so be afraid, in the yawning jaws of the hungry hippopotamus."
Jantien wants to go and George says he is going too. So he jumps into the water, while Jantien is still putting on the flippers.

George:"Jantien was making moves to go into the water, but I didn't want her to go, because we'd lose money. So I jumped into the water and started swimming, which was quite tough, because it was low tide. So you had to peddle really hard."
Jantien:"George and me both went overboard, but I lost one of the flippers, which caused me moving forward real slowly. And George was there first and I thought 'God damn now he's taking the bottle!'."

With one flipper, Jantien's trying to move forward and tries swimming on her back. John, who's still in the boat, takes the flipper she lost on the way. Meanwhile, George has arrived at the beach and found the bottle. He's waving it through the air and John yells:"Show me the money!" The bottle is worth 4,000 €.

Jantien:"After a lot of fuss I arrived at that small beach and that d*ckhead took that bottle. When he had that bottle I said 'You dirty Mole!' and he laughed. I told him he wasn't going to get that next bottle."

They have 40 minutes left and find a beautiful formation of rocks which looks like an elephant.
Flashback John:"The three treasure hunters, looking for success and without scruples, will find their way to the giant elephant, where more gold is hidden in the ground."

John:"We found the elephant and sailed around it, but the water was extremely wild and smacking into the rocks. It was too dangerous, so we decided it would be on land, with the information we had."

But they can't go back to the start and run all the way to the head of the elephant, because then they'll be out of time. George sees a small stairway which leads to the top. So they go over there and walk to the head of the elephant. No one is moving towards the bottle though. They are talking.

George:We were discussing who would take the last bottle. And because John already had one and I had one, we didn't want Jantien to get that last one, but she wanted to get it. No discussion. To keep a good atmosphere we let her take it. But I wanted to take it."

Jantien's bottle is worth 3,000 €.

CC
George:"John didn't guard the money well enough, I think Jantien has stolen some money. But anyway, Jantien took the last bottle and now each of us has a bottle."

They have 12 minutes left to go back to the beach they started at, where they place the bottles in front of the hosts feet.

They are going to have dinner at the beach and spend the night there.

Praia da Berlenga
It's the last night. Tomorrow there will be a loser, a winner and The Mole. They discuss the contestants who have already left them.

Erik the gardener.

Flashback of the elimination where Erik gets the red screen.

Host:"How did you feel about him leaving?"

John:"It was a double feeling, because it's the first one who had to leave and you have compassion for him. But you're also glad you're not the first one."

The first tears fell when Pamela had to go.

Flashback of Pamela's elimination.

Host:"What did you think about that?"

John:"She had about the same age and we got along really great."

Jantien:"I cried too, not only because of Pamela, but also because I thought it was such a stupid game because people had to leave."

Then Dick left.

Flashback Dick gets the red screen and everyone says goodbye to him.

George:"It's difficult to say something about Dick."

Host:"Maybe the age difference was too big between you two?"

George:"Yeah, even though he's a really sweet guy, you can just tell that by looking at him."

And then Kerstin left.

George:"It was funny with her in the caves after the bag burning. Everyone went crazy and she just calmly said 'Explain it to me just one more time, what is the problem now really?'."

Flashback Karen:"I really don't care at all, if it would have been your stuff, I would have been as angry as I am now!" Kerstin to the camera:"This is such a show." And then in her confession cam:"And I was sitting there like 'Guys, I'm getting so really tired of this."

That brings us to Karen.

John:"I think she couldn't cope with it that people suspected her as The Mole. I think she's the kind of woman who likes to be accepted by people and who wants people to think she's a nice woman. And if you're a Mole... in her case that doesn't work."

Flashback Karen:"They will have to make do without a Mole!"

Host:"Prince, let's talk about Prince."

John:"Prince was my friend, my pal. We started doing things together very early on and we were also trying to find The Mole together. He's so enthousiastic, so social. He's absolutely great."

Host:"Will you remain friends?"

John:"Of course."

Harry.

The contestants sing 'Hij was maar een clown' (a Dutch song: He was just a clown) and laugh. Host:"But he was a really funny clown."

Flashback of Harry's clown act.

The Host takes a letter out of her pocket. It's a letter from Harry:
"Last confession, Porto 30th September.
Dear friends, here I am, all alone at a boring hotel in Porto. My heart is aching, because I miss you, my friends, with whom I've flown airplanes, hung above an abyss with ropes and whom I was tired of after some times, but again loved so much. Bunch of Moles, dirty liars, unfaithful people, friends, brothers and sisters all in the same boat. Today I voted for the wrong person. There goes my dream finale. It's a pity, but I can't tell you how great it is not having to remember everything anymore. I can even forget my room number, 434 for the real freaks. It was absolutely great! Harry."
Host:"Now let's talk about Ellen, what did you like about Ellen?"

John:"The strength that girl has! Unbelievable! That made me give her a lot of respect"
Flashback Ellen is parrallelling over the waterfalls.

Jantien:"But Ellen is capable of a lot!"
John:"She sure is. Her perseverance is great."
Jantien:"And I also think she's very smart."
Flashback Ellen during the interrogation:"We're just one big block." Jantien:"But I know so much already!" Ellen:"Yes, but you didn't get that information from us."
Followed by her elimination.

Jantien:"I didn't like it at all that she got eliminated."

The host leaves them at the beach, where they spend the night.

Suspicious in this episode
John says George had put the green door in front of the fake wall, but the reconrding shows it was him.
Jantien and George give up in the final room.
Jantien loses some time because she thinks she has spotted the mass of rocks that looks like a whale.
George quickly swims over to the beach to get the bottle before Jantien does.

Day 20 Porto
For their final questionnaire, the contestants are back in the city where, 3 weeks ago, the game started.

CC
George:"It's a nice group. Great competitors. John and me are a match for each other in the final round. I think he suspects me as The Mole. So I've think I've got a big chance at winning."
John:"I don't think Jantien is The Mole, because I guess Ellen has voted her as The Mole. And Jantien can be very convincing if something honestly went wrong. And a lot of things have gone wrong with her in this game."
Jantien:"Ellen voted for John in the previous questionnaire and she got eliminated. I don't think she voted me. I think John knows for sure now too. It would be very stupid if he was going to vote for me now."

The final questionnaire contains 40 questions about The Mole and what he or she has done during the entire 3 weeks.

Final Suspicions
Jantien:"I am going to vote for George. I found out very late that he's The Mole. Even though after the challenge with the thinkers, workers and dreamers I had written in my note book with real big letters GEORGE IS THE MOLE. But I couldn't imagine that, he's just so very great!" Flashback George is in the train, on the phone with Prince in the car and the connection is suddenly broken.  
"And then in the pub after the singing he had thrown the money up in the air and we lost at least 5,000 € on the ground there. But then you think 'Oh well, that's just the way George is.'. Oh and then during the absailing it went very slowly. He had a fear of heights, but it took him so very long. And then when we had to guess the port in the second challenge... he's supposed to have a good taste, because he's a cook, but he sent us to the wrong port houses and convinced us he was sure about it. 
Then when we had to cycle up the mountian, he probably fiddled with the acceleration of the bike." Flashback George:"The gear is to tough!" Karen:"Yeah that's right, I had the same problem." Prince:"How can it be too tough???" "Because in the beginning he was cycling really slowly and then in the end he did his best, because he knew it didn't matter anymore. And then everyone said 'George is such a tough guy! He was the best cyclist!" Flashback Karen:"This is so great! You both are so extremely great!" "But George just sabotaged the entire challenge in the beginning. That's so great about George. And you don't blame him either. You can see suspicious things with everyone, but if you see something with George you jut think that's just George and the way he is. So that's a lesson we have learnt. Stupid. Of all of us."

George:"I've always answered the test with two Moles in mind. Harry has been a suspect, Prince has been a suspect and Ellen too, but now I'm sure am right, it's Jantien of course. During the money van I was waiting for a very long time at the bridge. Then she called me and told me the money van was heading towards my direction And then there were very difficult instructions again... actually there weren't any instructions at all, the money van was right on front of me, what did I have to do?" Flashback George (on the phone to Jantien):"What do I have to do?" 
"Jantien was standing on the top of the mountain and was guiding Prince down. It turned out she didn't speak a lot and gave little information to Prince." Flashback Prince:"Jantien! Some reaction please!" "Later she said it was because of the walkie talkies. 
During the tour around Evora, Jantien had to teach me and Harry what they had learnt. Karen knew that the diameter of the bath was 9 meters. Jantien knew it would be one of the questions and told Karen that we didn't need to know that kind of information, so that's one question wrong.
When we each had to choose a case, Jantien knew John would go for the 5 correct answers on the questionnaire and she didn't take the exemption because she didn't need it and she also chose the 5 correct answers." Flashback Jantien:"I'm going for the exemption." John:"You're going for the exemption? So you're The Mole?"
"It's also strange that she started throwing up in the blinded van. Jantien kept on saying she was going to be sick. Flashback  Jantien:"I'm so sick, I don't even know where that stupid road is!" She takes off her seatbelt and gets out of the van. "I think she was one of the first people who had given up. The challenge was bound to fail because The Mole was in that van.
During Kerstin's kidnap, Harry and Ellen weren't thinking and Jantien could just sit back and watch. Sometimes The Mole doesn't have to do anything else but making others look suspicious and Jantien can take advantage in that."

John:"I've had 4 Moles. My first Mole was Karen, my second Mole was Jantien, then Ellen and my final Mole is George. George seemed very chaotic, confused and uncertain the past weeks. So I've started to think back about what could have happened." Flashback  of the challenge with the workers, thinkers and dreamers. "The Mole was a thinker. When we got that phonecall of him telling us to get some headphones. I already thought something was wrong." Flashback Prince (on the phone with George):"Headphones? Guys, we have to get headphones after this."
"And then the story with the bull. He was making one big show and wasted some time with that suitcase.
Today he was losing a lot of time by trying to break through that wall. We lost a lot of time because of that. I thought it was impossible. It couldn't be that wall, it had to be something else. We lost 30 minutesto that.
It's a kind of dreamworld I'm living in. I mean, how can you survive having had 4 Moles in this game? I hope I'll win tomorrow, we'll see about that. But I think Jantien's chances are higher."

Aerodromo Porto
At an airport, the host is waiting for the contestants. It's a rainy day.
The game has been played. In a short while we'll know who will be the winner, the loser and The Mole. And there's a special elimination for that. They will have to go into a plane and do a duo skydive. They will land on a big flag. There's one red flag, one green flag and one flag with the logo of The Mole. The winner will land on the green flag, the loser on the red one and The Mole of course on the Mole logo.
They put on special suits and get into the plane.

George:"When I saw those suits lying there I thought 'Don't think, just try and do this.'. In the plane I got scared, but I wanted to do it."
Jantien:"I've said it before that I'd never do a parachute jump. Before I knew it, I was already in the plane and I couldn't stop it anymore."

The plane takes off. The host is waiting and watching the plane. The contestants are clearly nervous and then it's time for them to do the jump. It's misty and rainy. John jumps first, followed by George and Jantien is the last too jump. The screen fades.
Back on the ground, the plane arrives at the airport. The flags are totally wet because of the rain. The plane stops and the engine stops too. All is quiet and the host is looking up into the sky.
