Amsterdam - April 2002
The host walks into a room and turns on the light:"The game is played. Did the Mole do one more sabotage, so the outcome would be postponed at the very last moment? Who is The Mole? Is it George? According to many people he is too nervous to be The Mole. Or is it John? Very cool with sunglasses on he did the challenges on his very own way. Or is it Jantien? She failed a lot of challenges."

Erik is walking to the building.
"Who's The Mole? I think John is The Mole. He is so smart and so cool. I think it's him. First I thought Ellen, then Harry, which wouldn't be so likely. But the most unlikely man in it now is John. John is The Mole."
He enters the building and sits at the table with the host.
Host:"One of the worst things in this game is to be the first person who is sent home. How did that feel?"
Erik:"It feels terrible. It's a mix of anger, disappointment, frustration, shame even because you're not participating to be thrown out the first episode."
Host:"Has there been a moment where you thought you had wished to be there?"
Erik:"The episode with the airplane. Even though I have a fear of heights, I would have loved to stand on that plane and look over the landscape. It would be a real challenge for me."

Pamela arrives on bike.
"The Mole to me is Jantien. When I came back I thought I had missed some clues. And now after watching the episodes I thought yep it's her! I could be wrong."
She sits down next to Erik.
Host:"You too had to leave the group very early, you've only been there for 4 days. And still it was a big smack in the face for the group. Some people even cried. Did you expect the group to get so close with one another?"
Pamela:"Yes I did expect that, but I think they cried because they realized that people have to be eliminated and would have to be sent home. So not because I had to go, not because I was the one who had to leave."
Host:"I do think it was because of you."
Pamela:"Oh that's nice to hear."

Dick arrives on foot.
"To me Jantien still is The Mole. The exaggerated playing to be The Mole, people might think it's so obvious and that she can't be The Mole. So I still think it's Jantien."
He sits down opposite Pamela and Erik.
Host:"Dick, you're an interim manager, so you're always working with new groups of people. What kind of group was this one?"
Dick:"It was a very opposite group of what I normally encounter at my work. You usually start off in situations where you try to get some trust and you start bounding after a while and in this group we immediately bounded after one night. We already knew a lot about each other. But after some time it got totally damaged."

Kerstin arrives in a sporty car.
"I'm totally on to George now. George is The Mole. If you look into his eyes I also feel that there's something more about him, tere's something hiding behind it. He also consciously made sure he had to do a challenge with one other contestant and I also noticed he was the only one who was prepared in advance. When we had to find the middle for example, he was the only one wearing long trousers as if he knew he would be walking through bushes."
She sits down next to Pamela.
Host:"From the moment you got that red screen, you looked stunned."
Kerstin:"Yes I thought I had the correct Mole with Karen. But I played all or nothing and..."
Host:"But you were always a little bit prepared then?"
Kerstin:"Yeah, I didn't go very confident to each elimination."
Host:"Why did you put it all on Karen?"
Kerstin:"I thought she was the least natural of all contestants. She immediately drew my attention, so I thought she must be The Mole."
Karen arrives by taxi.
"When I was eliminated I always thought it was Ellen, during the episodes too. But I always saw a very good second Mole in John and now I'm absolutely sure. John is The Mole."
She sits down next to Dick.
Host:"Karen, these are all your victims."
Karen:"So I've noticed."
Host:"Did you know that?"
Karen:"Absolutely not. Harry once told me he was suspicious of me, but then later on he said it wasn't me. And Prince too told me I was his Mole."
Host:"When your screen turned red, it was a brilliant moment."
Karen:"Yes, it was then that I noticed 'Damn, almost all of them are suspecting me.'. So how is it possible I'm out. Their confusion was funny."

Prince arrives on motorcycle.
"John is not The Mole. I've trusted him in that from the start. So only George remains. George is The Mole."
He sits down next to Kerstin.
Host:"Imagine John turns out to be The Mole. Would you feel betrayed?"
Prince:"Definitely. Then I would have really fell for it."

Harry walks towards the building.
"I've watched all episodes on tv now, So I've got the same view as the people at home, but I also got my own experience when I was still in. I'm still not sure, but I guess it's Jantien."
He sits next to Karen.
Host:"I think you're the only contestant I'v ever seen who was relieved to have that red screen."
Harry:"Those last few days were so tiring, so heavy and so very grim. I was glad I could leave.But when I was gone and when I was in the car 5 minutes later I felt bad and didn't want to go, because it's so much fun and so addictive and so great."
Host:"Did your wife get mad at you? Because you promised your wife and kids you wouldn't do anything dangerous, but in the end you were standing on planes and stuff."
Harry:"No she was more angry about the fact that I didn't negotiate so well. That I didn't take the exemption. She said 'What are you doing?! You're just sacrificing yourself!'."

Ellen too is on foot.
"John's The Mole! It's a guy who wants to prove himself and he's very strong and all and capable of a lot. But he had to restrain himself, so John is The Mole."
She sits down next to Harry.
Host:"Also a potential Mole to many. And you were so strong keeping everything a secret during the interrogation. How does it feel to be eliminated just before the finale?"
Ellen:"When it happened... I was very tired because of the challenge in the prison, which was really something for me... but when I got home I slept like 48 hours in a row. I was glad I was with the last four! But now that I've seen it on tv I thought 'Damn, I've been really close!'."

Together they watch the previous episode. The finale is shown again, where Jantien, John and George get in the airplane and jump out of it to land on either of the flags. The plane takes off and they're very scared. It's misty and rainy when they jump out. The screen fades.
Back on the ground, the plane arrives at the airport. The flags are totally wet because of the rain. The plane stops and the engine stops too. All is quiet and the host is looking up into the sky. Then there's the TO BE CONTINUED screen.

Back in Amsterdam - April 2002
John, Jantien and George walk to the building together and enter the room, where the others are waiting.
Host:"There they finally are!"
The three sit down close to the host.
Host:"Tell me George, are you The Mole?"
George:"No."
Host:"John, are you The Mole?"
John:"No."
Host:"Jantien, then you must be The Mole?"
Jantien:"Uh-uh, no way."
Host:"OK we're not getting anything wiser of this. Let's watch the outcome then."

We see them getting ready to jump. It's misty and rainy. John jumps first, followed by George and Jantien is the last too jump. They're falling and the parachute opens.
The plane has landed. The host doesn't know what has happened. She's looking up to the sky and then to the pilot of the plane, who's walking towards her.
One of the parachutes has started spinning a bit. But they land safely... in the middle of a grape field. Another parachute lands next to the field.
The flags they were supposed to land on, are filmed... empty.
Host:"No matter how we kept on looking to the sky, we didn't see any contestants arriving. The loser should have landed on the red flag, the winner on the green one and The Mole on the Mole logo. But because of a mistake in the navigation, the contestants landed 7 km further away!"
They drive to that place and the contestants walk towards her. Host:"Guys! this cost me 10 years of my life! You were supposed to land on the flags. The Mole has been active till the very end of the game it seems. 75,300 € is in the kitty."

She walks up to the winner and congratulates him/her. Find out who's the winner, who's the loser and who's The Mole by clicking the pictures:

So George is The Mole! What sabotages did he do? Let's look back at the first 2 episodes. We hear George talking and explaining what he did in his secret Mole confession cam.
Day 1 - abseiling
"When we were walking over the dam I told the others I had a fear of heights. I do really have a fear of heights, but not that bad, so I kept on saying to myself "I have a fear of heights, I have a fear of heights.' And after a while I didn't know whether I would go or not."
Flashback George hanging on the edge:"I'm a bit confused." John:"That doesn't matter, just hold on to that rope and lean back."
"I was really scared scared, but I did want to go down. So if you see my shaking hands, those are real. But I deliberately wasted some time. I didn't like it that we had won the challenge. A Mole action is not only about sabotaging the money, but it's also about trust. A kind of psychological confusing the other people. So I did go down the dam even though I had a fear of heights and I got a lot of credit for that."

Day 2 - Port
"It was such a chaos and a lot of people made wrong decisions. I didn't make any real choices and just let the others mix it up."

Day 3 - workers, thinkers, dreamers
"It was a bit confusing. At one point I was yawning, trying to let the others yawn too, but Jantien is a kind of small pit bull. If she's looking outside through her window, she keeps on looking outside, no matter what happens aroudn her. So when she saw that watertank and yelled she had seen it, I tried to convince her it wasn't the right one. But Jantien did want to get out anyway."
Flashback In the train, the three thinkers are very bored and staring outside through the window. All of sudden Jantien shouts out:"Hey! I saw it! Over there!" George:"Nah you didn't." Jantien:"No really I did! Over there!"  
"And so I kept on playing the game, but then in the end I deliberately didn't fill in the gaps in the poem."
flashback George:"I will read it out. 'Too bad that we have to put a feather in front of our ears these days, even till deafness, so that we don't get into a fight with the noise maker'... out of that poem we found headphones."
Host:"But weren't there any words missing?" George:"That was the second part of the poem, but we didn't find that." Host:"And you didn't check the internet? Because then you would have found that the missing words were strings and guitars! So the challenge is failed! You lose 5,000 €."
"I deliberately didn't search on the internet; I knew that that was what we were supposed to do of course. But I didn't do it."
flashback At the swimming pool: Karen:"But this has been a mole action, really that's how I feel about it and it went very subtle. I feel very..." Harry:"But in which group then?"
Karen:"In our group!"
Harry:"So the Mole is in your group?"
Karen:"That's what I think..."
Harry:"Phew.... heavy!"
"It was funny that a lot of people told me I was very suspicious, so I said that I could imagine that, because I also thought The Mole was in our group."
Flashback  Confession Cam: Karen:"The most intruiging about all this is that I'm aware that I've seen the mole in action from a very short distance... and I don't know how!"
"It's weak that they didn't follow their suspicions about me."

Day 4 - Regatta
Flashback George is able to keep on standing on the waterskis and travel a distance of 1,400 meters.
"At the regatta I tried to make as much meters as possible with the waterskis, so it was harder for Dick to swim back to the beginning."
What you didn't know
We see George somewhere near a big pond:"The location is secret. It's just a day in September, right before the start of the game and this is the undercover training of The Mole!" George had been taught how to handle the waterskis, so he could make a long distance.
"I'm sorry Dick, you really went deep there."

Day 5 - Money van
"Again I've been running around like a madman. I tried to desorientate Jantien by saying I was in front of a church, even though I wasn't."
Flashback Jantien:"Hi George, this Jantien, where are you." George:"I'm standing in front of the church, I'm looking at it now." Then we see something we didn't see in the episode itself, because as George says he's looking at the church, the camera turns and he's just standing in an alley, looking at a house. While he's on the phone, he helps some women throwing away the garbage.
"Eventually I did get part of the money."
Flashback George collects money too. It seems he's putting something in his pocket. Jantien tells him he has to run back very fast, because he has to bring the money to them before the van has arrived. George asks some people the road to the destination he has to go to. The people point left, however for some reason, George runs to the right. Again we see some unseen footage. George is acting like he's running and tells Jantien he's heading to her direction. He keeps on stamping his feet, but doesn't move, so it seems on the phone that he's running. He runs around in a circle and then, when passing a garbage bin, he throws away one third of the money he collected. He also goes to a restaurant where he asks if he can use the toilet. And so he's wasting lots of time.
"I threw away one third of the money. In the end it wasn't so believable anymore, so I had to go back to Jantien and Dick so they wouldn't suspect me too much."

Day 6 - Cycling up the mountain
"The gear of the bike was low and I acted like I didn't know how to change it."
Flashback  George:"The gear is to tough!" Karen:"Yeah that's right, I had the same problem." Prince:"How can it be too tough???"
"I just had to push the gear one step further, but I didn't. So I cycled up that mountain really slowly in the hard gear. Sometimes I acted like I almost fell off the pedals of the bike and I kept on standing on the pedals. And afterwards Kerstin told me I had been so great. I had pushed myself to the limit."
Flashback  George is advancing really slowly and it takes him a lot of effort. The others are encouraging him. Karen yells:"You're a hero! Oh my god!"
Confession Cam: Kerstin:"What George did today was absolutely stunning. He went on that bike and in the beginning we were all struggling with the gear and it was such a wreck of a bike. We had to make do with it and what he did... definitely in his second and third try. I thought it was phenomonal. Every time when we thought he would get off and maybe even when he himself thought he'd get off, he kept on finding the power to continue and I thought it was fantastic."
"I thought it was funny. Too bad I had to do so weird, because I'd loved to just cycle normally, but I just kept on puffing on that bike. I wasn't tired at all, never had been. I'm really sorry Prince! Prince pushed himself to the limit!"

Day 7 - Find the middle
"I dawdled about going down. It was a rough terrain and I didn't really walk through that. The phone we had to find was in our perpendicular. But I didn't feel like helping them search it."
Flashback  Jantien:"My part of the story is very simple. Prince left and I immediately tried the walkie-talkie, but I couldn't in contact with him already." Prince:"I didn't hear you at all, that's right." Jantien:"No, I kept on..." George:"I did hear you. You were in the air a lot."
"If she's smart she knows I'm The Mole by now. She should have gotten that hint. But I don't know if she has the courage to vote for me."
Because in that episode, everyone could win an exemption if they sabotaged a challenge, Jantien hadn't talked at all. So the clue of George saying he did hear her talking should have made a bell ring with her. But it didn't.

Day 7 - Bag burning
Flashback  Karen:"Exactly and this is totally wrong. Totally wrong. And I'm going to leave! I won't participate in this! They will have to make do without a Mole!"
"And everyone was silent all of a sudden. Everyone looked at each other. They all were like 'What did she just say?!'. And we all had to laugh so hard! If you keep on voting for KAren after that, you're not smart, you don't have courage and you don't understand this game. Karen is not The Mole anymore. She's not. She could have been The Mole, but not anymore."

Day 8 - Parallelling
"I tried to have at least 1,000 € less in the game so I wasted some time and hoped Jantien would be short of time. I don't know if you can see it on screen, but at a certain point I certain breathing fast so my heart rate would rise."
What you didn't know
George:"Part two. Another secret location and I'm learning how to get my heartrate up. By thinking of scary things. Playing in The Mole, being The Mole. Or fast breathing. And my heart rate should go up. It needs some training. I'm too relaxed. Is that good for a Mole?"
Flashback  George makes it and everyone applauds.
"And then Harry came to me and said 'It's not fake your fear of heights, huh? Or is it?' So I think he might be suspecting something."
Flashback  Harry:"So weird, he's acting so weird. He's a nice guy, but he's such a fanatic, which makes me think it can't be him. But it would be great to let him be The Mole because it would be a good choice."

"It's so difficult to be the Mole. You're caught in the atmosphere of the group even though you know you have a different role, you sometimes want to share a moment of success. You want to go for it together and it's almost impossible to keep on being The Mole, because you want to be part of that."

Day 10- Kerstin's Kidnap
"I just ran after the others and didn't think. John and Prince started running and they were so fast they arrived there within 5 minutes and if they had the right keys they could have freed Kerstin. But I didn't tell them that they could also just drive to that view point instead of running."

Day 14 - Family and friends game
"I just waited and watched what the others were doing. I knew the correct sayings of each person. Ellen took mine, Harry's was wrong, Jantien took the wrong one. So I thought 'This is gonna cost ya!'. I think we paid 12,000 € to see the friends and family again. I hope the kitty will be empty in the end. Only then I will think I've done well!"

Day 12 - Youth pictures in the church
"I didn't feel well when we had to find those pictures in the church. I was gone from the big part of the group and couldn't really do much mole actions. Even though I could have just shut my mouth when I saw Harry's picture, I had to say it, I had to play it as a real contestant. But then I saw Harry had a broken leg on the picture. I hoped that would fail the challenge. When you're a Mole you have to play it as a real contestant or you it's too obvious. And if you don't feel well you have to be really careful, because I think you're radiating it that you're The Mole then. You can't be molish then."

Day 11 - Guided Tour
Flashback  The host explains them that she will ask George and Harry 5 questions. They have to guess who will have most questions correct. They go for Harry. If Harry has more questions right than George, they win 5,000 €. If they both answer an equal amount of questions correctly, nothing happens and if George has more questions correct, they will have to pay 5,000 €. Harry is up first.
What you didn't know
When Harry is in the hotel room with the others, George is instructed about the questions and told only to answer the question correctly if he has heard it from the others. So he knows the questions on forehand, making the score even and not winning any money.
"They don't talk about who they suspect as The Mole. Whoever is The Mole, no one dares to tell anyone he suspects them. If it would have been otherwise I would try to make the person I suspect totally crazy and try to break him. If he'd go to the toilet or something I'd open his door and say 'I think you're The Mole!' and go away again and keep on repeating that. But no one dares to say I am The Mole."

Day 17 - Number Estafette
"The estafette was very difficult to sabotage, because my only chance of sabotaging was to confuse the locks on the case. I did do that, but the other three were all watching every move I made."
Flashback  Confession Cam: Jantien:"And then I heard him mumbling '7 8 2 6' and I whispered to John 'I think he's got the wrong order of numbers!'
John:"Jantien was sitting next to me and said 'What is he doing with those numbers?!' and I told her 'Yeah, really weird!'. But I could see that he was just nervous."
"I do think John and Jantien suspect me now. After the confusing of the locks and numbers. Is that so?"
Flashback  John:"But I could see that he was just nervous."
"John doesn't suspect me? Then John won't win."

Day 18 - Interrogation
"It was really though and of course I didn't want them to win any money. It was very difficult to play. If Jantien would've kept on interrogating 5 minutes more, I would have told her everything."
Flashback  Jantien:"They could earn 2,500 € and Ellen has the money." The host tells the others to tell her whether she's right. John shakes his head:"It was 10,000 € and I have the money." Jantien:"How nasty! You have made some friends today too!" George is just standing there. When Jantien looks at him she points out her hand and George shakes it.
"You can see me getting pissed off. I've told her so much and she only needed 2 more things and didn't succeed in it! I was really mad. I really hoped it would fail."

Day 15 - 4 suitcases
Flashback  George:"I want the exemption. And maybe the phone call with The Mole."
"No one had the phone call with The Mole! Because I was The Mole. I was really scared someone would have to talk to me on the phone, even though my voice would be scrambled. Even though it was scrambled they would recognize me. So that evening I went to Jantien and Ellen and I asked them what they would ask if they could talk to The Mole."
Flashback  Ellen:"George, is this gonna be a phone call with yourself?"
George:"No not with myself..." and he looks confused. The women start laughing.
CC
Ellen:"I asked him if he was going to have a phone call with himself. He looked at me very confused. 'No with The Mole.'. And he said it in such a strange way."
"So I said 'Huh?' and she said 'That you'll only talk to yourself.', I said 'No.. why?'. 'Sucker!' she said. 'Do you know what you just told me? That you're not The Mole!'. Oh... 'Nothing is what it seems to be.' said Jantien. So I said 'Yeah, nothing it what it seems to be!'..... ok..(laughs) That's really funny."
Flashback  George is on the phone with The Mole. George:"OK." Unseen footage: He hangs up. He looks into the camera and says:"I wasn't talking to anyone, you know."

Day 19 - Dungeons
"The game with the underground dungeons was really cool and really fun. It was a kind of surrealistic environment. In the end we only had 15 minutes left and John was already out. And if Jantien would go up, he could help her, so I was trying to come up with a strategy whether I should go up or not."
Flashback  John:"Don't do it if you're scared." Jantien:"I'm not going to do it."
"I could easily go up using the wooden beams, because I knew I was secured. But now I refused. I was almost there but didn't do it."

Day 19 - Treasure Hunt
The money which would be found by The Mole wouldn't go into the kitty.
"So I thought uh-oh, because I thought both John and Jantien were voting for me. And then we were in the boat and John had already got one bottle and then we arrived at the mouth of the hippo and I put on my gear and jumped in the water before Jantien and John could tell me to look after the boat. I wanted to get that bottle. Jantien lost a flipper. But I think that if she wouldn't have lost it, it would have been a neck-to-neck race about who would arrive at the beach first. In the end I got the bottle and it cost them 4,000 €. I think they didn't really like it."

"Too bad it's over. The game has been played and they're both voting for me. It's really exciting. May the best man win!"

John only knew it was George in the interrogation challenge of episode 9. At first I went for the obvious one, Karen. And then I decided to go for the less obvious, which was Ellen or George.
Jantien already noticed something in the negotiating challenge, but just thought it was the way George worked.
In the final questionnaire, Jantien had 25 questions correct of the 40 and John had 32 correct.

It's about time to congratulate the winner and to give him his money. The group earned 57,300 €. John still has the coupons, but they're only worth 42,300 €. 15,000 € is missing!
George takes out something out of his pocket. It's the missing 15,000 €! Let's see how that happened:

Day 17 - Number Estafette
George is sitting on top of the fortress alone. John just left with the jeep and the other two are waiting somewhere else. George is enjoying a meal and some wine:"I just saw John driving away, so I'm going to toast on my fellow contestants, because I don't think anyone knows I'm The Mole. Good luck guys!"
"This is the perfect time to do my second intervention. The first one was when I pretended to be drunk in the students pub after the paintball. Harry took the kitty and showed it to me. I took the money and made a fan of it. I shook it next to my ear to hear how the money soudned and I shook it next to Harry's ear. And I was shaking it and then the money fell out of my hands. I picked it up and took away some of the coupons. But according to the contestants' administration, no money is lost at all. So The Mole didn't steal any money. So that's not fun, as The Mole you want some attention of course. So this is my chance, because I have John's bag here. With the kitty in it. They honestly won 10,000 €." He takes 10,000 € away fro mthe kitty. "You should be more careful John and don't trust anyone! And now I'm going to make it very hard for him. Because John had to guard the money and now 10,000 € is gone. I'm pretending I want to win a lot of money, so John is suspicious. Or he's the sucker that can't look after the money. But I didn't do it!"

The money is used for the next series of The Mole.
John now gets his money. He is going to use it for a kitchen and save some for his kids, because they are going to have a third child!
