Dutch Mole 4
Episode 7

Patricia scored lowest in the questionnaire last episode and was sent home. She was so sure she had the right Mole, but apparently she was wrong...

Sacacomie - Canada
At night, a person gets in a car, with a flashlight and puts the instructions tape in the portable tv.
The host appears on the screen:"Hi Mole, congratulations with your record! Two contestants are out of the game and they didn't win 22,000 €. Congratulations!" flashback to previous episode: Patricia is eliminated. Elise:"Shall we open this envelope?" Ferdi:"The money doesn't matter, just open it! We're freezing out here!". Elise runs to the helicopter with the suitcase, but gets shot by Ron and falls over:"What are you doing?!" "As you can see, an exemption always works! In the next couple of days, a well-known person of you will drop by. You'll get a lot of support from them." The Mole loos at a picture of that person and on a map. "However, you will have to find that person first! The group is getting smaller and it's about time you start acting like a contestant. Go for the money! Good luck!"

Day 14 - Sacacomie
They wake up in a small house near a lake, have breakfast and leave.

Rene:"I sometimes he hint to my Mole that I suspect them and they react in a nervous way. 'If you think that way, that's up to you, it's not like that.' Those reactions give some information to me. I'm just waiting until The Mole slips up and maybe says they can't bare it anymore. I'm curious!"
Elise:"We've got used to Rene a little now. He can be very gruff? It's very obvious that he doesn't trust anyone in the group anymore."

They crive to Montreal, which is quite a change of scenery!
They meet the host who tells them they each have to do a job. She hands out 5 envelopes of which every contestant has to choose one. Elise is the first one to choose an envelope. She has to ring 10 suitcases to a hotel room.
Chandrika has to make 40 juice drinks.
Rene has to polish 5 pairs of shoes.
Ferdi needs to park 30 cars and Ron has '10 music styles', but doesn't know what that means yet.
During their job they will each get a kind of clue to a place they have to go to. If they all succeed, they win 3,000 €.
Every contestant has to go to a different location in the city to do their job and they have to get together at a secret place, which is a subway station, which is about 15 minutes walking distance from the locations the contestants are at.
They all begin at 3 PM. Ron will be a DJ and has to play 10 kinds of music genres in one of the hippest record stores in Montreal. The DJ of the store will teach him to be a DJ.
Rene has to polish shoes in a mall. He finds the person in the picture that was in his envelope. The man will instruct him.
Chandrika meanwhile arrives at another mall, where she will be making juice drinks and Ferdi arrives at a parking lot, where he has to park 30 cars.
Elise arrives at the hotel, where she will be the "bellgirl", bringing the people's luggage to their rooms.

Rene asks a woman who runs a shop near the place he has to polish shoes, if she would like her shoes to be polished, she does. This is his first pair of shoes out of five. He will be getting the same clue as all the others. If he notices it anyway...
Elise is standing at the front desk in the hotel. A woman comes to her.

Elise:"I was at the front desk and a lot of people came to ask me stuff. One needed to know where the telephone was, so I thought 'Oh that's a clue! I probably have to go to a phone and someone will call me!' And some asked me for directions, but obviously I couldn't help them, because I don't know my way aroudn Montreal."
She has to get some luggage for a woman and asks if she can take it to her room for her, because after all, that's her task, to bring 10 pieces of luggage to customer's rooms. Woman:"Oh no that's ok." Elise:"But I really want to help you!" Woman:"Actually, I wanted to take it home with me."

Chandrika is selling several orange juices meanwhile. And Ron is searching through some cd's to find different music styles. He's playing Craig David.

Ferdi is parking someone's car meanwhile. It is until they are finished with their task that they can go to their secret location.

At the mall, a guy with long blond hair, abercrombie clothes, baggy pants, sunglasses and a baseball cap, walks towards Rene, who asks if he can polish the guy's shoes. Guy:"Do I need that?" After a short while he does sit in the chair and lets Rene polish his shoes.
As he's polishing the guy's shoes, the guy's phone rings. "Hey baby. Yeah, but where am I supposed to meet you then? ... Bonaventura metro station? ... Bonaventure? OK I'll ask around. Bonaventura metro station, Hanri Bourassa at 4:30 pm. See you soon there!" Rene:"With shiny shoes!"
He's done polishing the shoes, the guy thanks him and heads off.

Elise gets a suitcase and tells someone she's the bellgirl for today. As the camera turns, we see she's talking to a lady. Not the weird guy who just had his shoes polished, because that's obviously the clue.
Several minutes later (At 3:15 pm) the guy arrives at the hotel, walks up to another girl at the desk and says he made a reservation under the name La Taupe. Elise then brings his luggage to the room. As she enters he asks her if she knows the metrostation Bonaventura. He tells her he's supposed to get there at 4:30 pm and asks if he can still make it on time. Elise says she doesn't know the metrostation.

3:35 pm
Ron has played some piano music and is now playing Moby with 'In My Heart'. He walks around in the store to search for clues. The guy enters the store too and asks Ron where the rock section is. Ron:"I don't know, I work here parttime, sorry." Guy:"Do you know where the metro station Bonaventura is?" Ron:"I don't know either, ask him." A man next to him does know where it is. Guy:"I have to be there at 4:30 pm at the platform Henri Bourassa." Ron walks away.
The guy then goes to get an orange juice at Chandrika's. As she gets the orange juice, the guy talks on the phone, supposedly with his girlfriend again, ready to give the clue. Chandrika asks his card (some kind of payment system with the card) but the guy asks her to hold on a second. She decides to describe the guy on a piece of paper. The guy then asks if she knows where metro station Bonaventura is located. She asks someone else.

Chandrika:"I found him a strange person, so I did notice him, but I didn't think it was a clue."

The guy tells his girlfriend on the phone that he'll meet her at Bonaventura metro station at 4:30 pm and walks away. Chandrika:"What a weird guy!"
Rene is out on the streets and has a phone.
CC
Rene:"I got a phone after my task was done and could call the others. Which didn't work... I stood outside and called and called and called, but as far as I know, they hadn't finished their tasks yet and hadn't got a phone yet."

Elise is finished too. Chandrika has to do 8 more juices.
Rene finally gets in contact with someone: Elise:"Hi, Ijust finished my suitcases and just got this phone. I've got two clues: Rue de Montigny and something with Bonaparte. But I was bellboy, so I got a lot of people asking me directions."
Rene:"I only got a phone and had to call."
Elise:"Only a phone? You didn't get any clue?"
Rene:"No."
Elise:"OK, but I don't know where I have to go to now."
Rene:"I'll see if I can get into contact with any of the others."

Ron has finished his task too. He asks the DJ about the blond guy:"He told me to be at the station at 5:30 pm, do you remember?"
DJ:"I think he said the metro station was Bonaventura."

Ron:"It wasn't until the end when it turned out I should have gotten the clue, that I understood the clue. And then I foudn which station it was and where I had to go to."

It's getting dark already and the guy now arrives at the parking lot and also asks Ferdi if he knows where the Bonaventura metro station is, because he has to be there at 4:30 pm. The guy:"I should be at the platforum Henri something." Ferdi doesn't know and the guy runs off.
Chandrika is finished with her task.
Elise calls Ron and tells him she found something about Bonaparte or Bonaventura. Ron says it's Bonaventura, that it's a station and that they have to be there at 5:30 pm.

Ferdi is the last one to finish his task. It's 4:15 pm.

Ferdi:"The actor came by to tell me where to go to, so I decided to go to the station, which seemed most practical to me."
Ron:"I talk to Elise on the phone, who would tell Rene. I tried to call Ferdi, but couldn't get through to him."

Elise calls Rene:"Hi Rene, I just talked to Ron, who also got something about the Bonaventure station and he told me we had to be there at 5:30 pm."
Rene:"This is too far away for you to walk. Maybe you should take a cab."
Ferdi asks some people the way. They all have 14 minutes left. Most of them are in the subway already, but not on at the correct station yet. Chandrika is standing outside the place she had to make juices at and doesn't know where to go. Rene tells her.
Ron enters a metro meanwhile. Elise calls Ferdi, who tells her to go to Bonaventura at platform Henri something. Elise:"And we have to be there before 5:30 pm?" Ferdi:"Before 5:30?" Elise:"Yeah, that's what Ron said."
The strange guy meanwhile arrives at the Henri Bourassa platform. It's 4:26 pm. Rene arrives first and a while later, Chandrikaarrives, who tells him she called Ferdi. The weird guy is the only other person left at the metro station. He's sitting on a bench.

Rene:"Everyone talked about a guy who looked quite strange and later at the station I saw the guy and I said 'Hey I polished his shoes.' and Chandrika said she sold him a juice. And then we went to the entrance to see where the others were."

Rene and Chandrika stand outside the Henri Bourassa entrance. There's only 6 seconds left for the others to arrive, but no one is coming. Time's up and the strange looking guy walks up to them and tells them the others are late and they are the only two who made it. Guy:"One more question: have you got any idea who I am?"
They look at him, puzzled. He then takes his baseball cap and sunglasses off and they recognize him! It's last Dutch edition's Mole: George!

They all laugh and he tells them they can talk to him for two minutes. "I know everything about the show, which you can ask me about, but you can also ask very clever questions!" He then yells for a taxi.
The other three arrive late. They thought they had to be at the station at 5:30 pm instead of 4:30 pm. The group pot stays at 28,400 €.

Rene gets in the taxi with George. We hear pieces of their 2 minute conversation, as the taxi drives aroudn the block.
Rene:"So I could also go through all previous challenges and say 'I find you didn't do this or that well."
George:"Of course! I also find that you, the contestants, or maybe you are The Mole, play the game a bit too soft. If I were you... you have to be hard. The group is getting smaller, The Mole will be getting more nervous. If I were a contestant, I would be constantly bugging The Mole. Eventually you have to try to catch The Mole on their mistakes and the more you confront him, the more nervous he gets."
The taxi arrives back at the Bonaventura entrance, where Chandrika is still waiting. George wishes Rene good luck and then Chandrika gets in.
Chandrika:"What kind of strategy did you use as Mole."
George:"The further I got into the game, the better I felt in my role. Also because I knew whether they suspected me or not. The characteristics you have as a contestant will be enlarged if you're The Mole."
Chandrika:"Yeah exactly. I do pay attention to the details of people, but it's still quite difficult."
She arrives again too and gets out. George leaves. Rene and Chandrika thought it was great.

Chandrika:"Rene and I looked at each other and thought the others didn't have to know anything. What good does it do for us to tell the others who we met? Because then we will be getting questions from them and it's just something that stays between us."

Auberge Belles Vues
The other three contestants are at an appartment. Elise wonders where Rene and Chandrika are. Ferdi and Elise make a toast. Elise:"To the failure of the challenge!"
Then, Rene and Chandrika arrive. Rene:"Oh you're allreading eating here and we were outside on the streets in the cold!"
Ron:"Where have you been? You were on time and then you got taken somewhere?"
Chandrika:"Yeah." Rene:"We encountered the strangest things." Chandrika:"Yeah, really, all kinds of stuff."
Both walk away to take off their coats (and avoiding more questions).
Later they also talk about the strange guy they all met. (Being George)

Rene:"We succeeded in the challenge and got the opportunity to talk to George. I want to keep it that way. It's best to not give away much information to the others, because you only make yourself weaker that way."
Chandrika:"The others haven't got a clue that we met George. And it doesn't concern them."
Rene:"You have to play the game on your own now to win the pot."

Day 15 - Montreal
It has snowed overnight and they're all throwing snowballs at each other as the host arrives. She tells them she needs an extrovert and introvert person for the first challenge.

Ron and Chandrika volunteer and they have tofollow the host. As the three of them leave, the others start throwing snowballs again and the host joins in on the fun.
After 14 days we will see how well they got to know each other. Ron and Chandrika have to give themselves and the others two characteristics, a positive and a negative one. They have to it in such a way that the others recognize themselves in it later on.
Ron chooses creative for himself and then they try to find a negative aspect for himself. He can't find one (they have to select the characteristics which are written on small pieces of paper). But he then goes for 'introvert'.
Ron suggests Elise is confused, but Chandrika doesn't agree. She starts laughing and says she's the one who's more likely to be confused. Ron:"Oh yeah, because on the island when you were having cold and next you weren't." Chandrika:"I don't think that's what 'confused' means."

The other three go to a big parking lot, which is also covered with snow. They watch a car driving backwards towards them and then making a 180 degree turn. They have to teach that stunt to each other. The first one is taught by the stuntman. If he succeeds, he can win 500 €. He then has to teach it to the second person, who can win 1,000 € if he succeeds and he has to teach the last person, who can win 1,500 €.
They decide the order in which to drive. Elise suggest to let someone who's really good at it, go first, so he can teach it well to the next one. Rene doesn't agree, because the last person can win most money. They decide to let Rene go first, because he's good at it, then Elise, who's less good at it, but will be taught by Rene. And lastly, Ferdi will go, because he thinks he's slightly better than Elise and thus goes third, to win more money.

Rene goes first and is taught by the stuntman, who explains all about the stunt. He has to keep his hand on 5 o'clock on the steering wheel whilst driving backwards and when he reaches the reference point, he has to turn the wheel almost 360 degrees from 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock as fast as possible. Then, when he's turned, bring it back to 12 o'clock, put it in 'drive' and go forward.
Ferdi and Elise watch as the stuntman shows how to do it. Rene can practise once. He does great!
His second try is worht 500 € and he succeeds. The stuntman agrees. It's Elise's turn now.

Elise:"I was quite nervous for that stunt, because I only have my driving licence for 9 months. And this was a car without gear, so I didn't know how it worked. And Rene was paying close attention to me, which made me nervous too."

Rene explains Elise how to do it. He gives the same explanation as the stuntman and tells her not to hit the breaks whilst turning. She can try first too and does quite well.

Elise:"I was stunned! I didn't know I could do something like. It was great!"

But then, when she has to go for the money, she fails. The car starts spinning slightly.
Stuntman:"She overrotated. The car overrotated. If we put her on a scale from 1 to 10, the second try is worth a 5."
CC
Rene:"I noticed she hit the break, which I told her not to do. It could be a Mole act, so 1,000 € went missing."
Elise:"The second try I got a bit pushed by the people standing on the side. They yelled to drive faster, so I stepped on the gas, but went a bit too fast for my liking."

Ferdi is next and walks to the car as Elise gets out. Elise:"This sucks big time that I missed it the second try!"
She explains him the way to do it too and tells him that if he thinks he can put it back into 'drive' whilst turning, he can do that, but she wasn't able to.
As Ferdi is about to start, the host walks up to him and asks how well he thinks he will do. The host tells him he can go for 1,500 €, but he can also decide to go for double or nothing. If he succeeds, the money will be doubled and they'll have 4,000 €. But if he fails, they will win nothing. We don't hear it just yet. The host comes back to Rene and Elise and explains the offer she made.
Ferdi can practise once too. His first try is great.
His second try is the best one yet. Will he have gambled to double the money?
Ferdi arrives back with the others and the host asks him to tell the other two what he decided on. Ferdi didn't double the money. So they win 2,000 €. They now have 30,400 €. The host hands the money to Rene.

Rene:"Such a pity, because he was quite sure he could do the stunt. But oh well, he made the choice and at least we got some money."

Ron and Chandrika are almost done with their assignment. They need a positive characteristic for Chandrika, but she declines Ron's suggestions. They go for 'thoughtful'. Ron:"Because you understand the challenges quite well, which means you're thoughtful."
They are finished and this is what they have:
Rene: resolute - pushy
Chandrika: thoughful - indifferent
Ferdi: outspoken - ruthless
Ron: brave - introvert
Elise: enthusiastic - confused

The pictures of the contestants are taken away and the others have to put the correct picture next to the characteristics. If they succeed, they win 2,000 €.
Rene puts his own picture next to 'brave and introvert', but Elise and Ferdi think that's for Ron. Elise hangs Rene's picture next to 'resolute & pushy' and Ron is put on the fourth place. Ferdi is put on the correct place too.
Ferdi puts Chandrika's picture next to 'thoughtful and indifferent', but Elise says she feels Chandrika is 'confused'. Elise:"I'm easily confused too, but I think Chandrika is too."
Rene:"But I don't think she can be really enthusiastic about things."
Elise:"Woah, how about when she jumped from that bridge and stuff?"
Ferdi:"Yes and with those ribbons, when she said she couldn't find any ribbons anymore, but still went ahead?"
Elise:"You also have to look at how a person sees himself. I am confused, but I think she finds herself more confused."
Ferdi:"I think so too." and he changes Chandrika and Elise's pictures. Elise:"Because I don't think I'm indifferent, but I can imagine some people find my way of reacting quite indifferent."
They have finished and Chandrika and Ron arrive. Chandrika has to show what they had. She changes the characteristics of Elise and Chandrika.
Rene:"I should have been more pushy, then we were right!"
They don't win any money, so the pot stands at 30,400 €.
The host has another surprise for them:"One of the most favourite things to do on holiday from Dutch people is to travel aroudn Canada in a camper. So we waited until it freezing cold outside. Here are the keys, because there is a camper in front of the hotel!"

It's snowing again and they enter the cold camper and drive off to a parking lot. The girls dance to radio music.

Rene:"We reached a point where we're all playing the game together. I told them I thought they don't understand the game. It's not just fun talking about suspicious things together. It's about keeping information to yourself now. According to the reactions I got, they don't understand that."

That night, the host comes to the camper and tells them to come outside in 5 minutes. She then asks them to show their tubes.
Elise, Rene and Ron left it in the other car. Because they don't have their tubes, it costs them 3,000 € (1,000 € for each person.). Ferdi is angry and calls them bastards. Chandrika also finds it very bad. They now have 27,400 € left in the pot.
Host:"OK, at the beginning of the journey, I gave you the tubes."
flashback to episode 1: She welcomes the contestants and tells them about the game a little. And then she takes a silver tube out of her pocket. she says they all get one. It's their personal belonging and they have to carry it on them all the time. It's forbidden to open it.
Host:"If no one has opened their tube, there's no questionnaire, and no elimination. But if one of you did open it, there will be a questionnaire and an elimination."
They check it one by one. The host sits in the camper with a red light. Ferdicomes in first and she asks if he has opened his tubed. Ferdi says he hasn't. The host asks him to open it now. There's photopaper in it and the host puts it in the kind of fluid which develops pictures. Something shows up on the picture, but Ferdi doesn't really see anything. 

The host then turns on a flashlight and shines over the picture, which quickly gets black. Host:"This is what it would have looked like if you did open it."

Chandrika is next. She claims not to have opened the tube. They check and Chandrika thinks she sees an eye, but can't make anything out of it.

Elise also says she didn't open the tube. She didn't indeed and also gets to see a picture.

Rene is the next one. We don't hear whether he has opened his tube or not. The picture gets developed, but the camera turns away, so we don't see what's on it (or if it is black, meaning it has been opened)

Rene:"I've reached the stage where I don't give away  too much information to the others. I don't want to say anything about it."

Ron is last. Through the snow, he walks towards the camper. The host asks if he has opened his tube and he says he hasn't. "Not me, anyway."
They take a look and he didn't open it indeed. Host:"I wouldn't talk about it with the others. It benefits you."

The host tells the group that she'll let the results know the next morning. They go back into the camper.
Elise:"I'm curious about what was on your pictures. I think we have to put it together. Mine was a black and white photograph."
Chandrika:"Mine was too." She starts drawing it out. "This was a kind of eye and these were lines."
Rene lies in his bed and Ron goes up to him to ask what was on his picture. Rene:"I will tell you tomorrow." Ron:"Tell us now, so we can sleep well. You know what's on ours now too."
Rene:"I told you I wouldn't say it." Ron:"But why not? It's as important to us as it is for you." Rene moans something.

Rene:"I might have something here. And tomorrow we'll find out whether there's an elimination or not."
Elise:"We speculated about the contents of the tube a lot and thanks to Aafke, who did open it, we knew there would be information in it that could be lost. The fact that it was a picture wasn't that much of a surprise, but the fact that we could escape elimination was. We hope so!"
Ron:"I think nobody opened it, but we'll see about that later. Rene doesn't want to tell us whether he opened it or not."
Ferdi:"I barely slept last night."

The next morning, the host wakes them, telling them it was an expensive night, because it cost them 3,000 € for those who didn't have their tube. She tells them that they have to drive one hour for the next assignment and gives them an envelope they're not allowed to open until they reach their next destination.
