Dutch Mole 4
Episode 8

Nobody had opened their tubes, meaning that there was no questionnaire and no elimination last time. So five people still remained and carried on in their search for The Mole.

Montreal - Canada
At night, in the woods, a person with a flashlight walks to a monitor and presses play...
The Host appears:"Hi Mole. Nice huh, that you got to talk to George, last year's Mole?" flashback of everyone meeting George in disguise during their tasks. "Nobody noticed it and by the way, tomorrow you'll get visitors again! The tubes hadn't been opened, which gives you two extra days to guide them into the wrong direction. Here are your instructions: you know which songs not to sing..." The person is looking at a piece of paper which has three titles of Dutch songs on it and then looks at another piece paper, saying 'Phone number - Partner game 1902299042' "... and I wouldn't change anything with that phone number, because they're all watching you closely. Don't panic too much, in two days someone will go home again anyway. Good luck!"

Day 16 - Somewhere Around Montreal
They're driving the camper to the next location and are singing all kinds of Dutch songs. Ferdi is driving.

Rene:"Today we did an assignment. We had to sing all kinds of Dutch songs and got an envelope."
flashback The Host handed them an envelope before they left:"I've got an envelope here which contains three titles of songs. If it turns out you have sung one of these when you arrive, you'll win 1,000 €."

It's mostly Elise and Chandrika who start singing songs. The rest joins in.

Ferdi:"Elise was great! But we already knew that, because always when we're waiting somewhere, she was singing. So we all thought of Elise took the lead, it would be successful."

Most songs are quite stupid and dull.
CC
Chandrika:"I have to admit I also felt a certain shame with those songs, but I got over it, because we did have to do the assignment and it didn't matter whether we sung false."

The girls even dance a little. They also sing Holland's national anthem and christmas carols.
They arrive at a big ranch in Iberville. The host tells them to open the envelope and see if they sung one of the three songs written on it. Elise opens it and reads the three titles. They didn't sing any of them....

Ferdi:"Eighty songs! And then three of them we didn't sing. The fact that we didn't have 'Guus kom naar huus' was normal, I guess no one ever thought about that. The song of the band Blof was such a pity, because we sang a lot of Blof-songs. And also some of Doe Maar, which was the band of the third song written on the paper."
Chandrika:"But unfortunately, our song wasn't written on the paper..."

They stay at 27,400 € in the group pot.
There's still snow all over the place and it's still snowing where they are now, but they have a new challenge to do.
They're at a ranch where they train Rodeo horses and they have to do 5 jobs, which are written on a blackboard:
- Feed Bronc horses
- Equalize indoor walking place
- Clean stables
- Feed horses
- Ride horse

They get an hour and a half to do those jobs and win 2,500 € if they succeed. The guys start feeding the horses hay. Every job that's fulfilled has to be crossed out on the blackboard. They walk aroudn in the shed with hay on a wheelbarrow.
The girls feed the Bronc horses outside in the snow. They are wild horses, running around in a pasture. Elise drives a big bulldozer-like maching, picking up a big haystack to feed the wild horses

Ferdi:"I can count most on Rene. I know he reacts in a primary way at things and he wouldn't be a good Mole, because he's too emotionally involved in the game. He just wants to win and it's all about winning with him and he motivates everyone in winning and The Mole wouldn't do that."
Rene:"Previously I thought Ferdi was The Mole, but his actions are so obvious. He'd be a bad Mole, or he does it on purpose, but I just think he isn't."
Ron:"I don't really suspect Rene. Of course he could also be it, but he's too driven sometimes. Or he plays the game very well. That's also possible."

After the guys have fed the horses, they clean out the corridor, which they have soiled with all the hay falling on the floor.
J.C. Daudelin (the owner of the ranch) tells the girls to be careful when feeding the wild horses and to say "He He!" to scare them away. With a bucket, the girls get into the pasture and feed the horses.

Elise:"Chandrika and I had fed the wild horses, which was a lot of work. And when we got back we crossed out 'Feed Bronc horses' and the guys also arrived and they crossed out two things: 'Feed horses' and 'Clean stables'."

We see Ferdi indeed crossing that out. They have 38 minutes left. They have smalltalk about the wild horses and see the only need to equalize the indoor walking place and then ride the horse. (The indoor walking place is for horse riding, but to ride a horse there, it has to be equalized first)
Ferdi reminds them of the time and they decide to go equalize the indoor walking place. Elise walks back through the corridor, which the guys had swept.

Elise:"And then we suddenly heard that the stables still had to be cleaned. So I asked the guys why they crossed that out when they hadn't done that job. And I asked what they had done. 'We had swept the corridor.' So I said 'Every idiot knows that sweeping the corridor is not the same as cleaning the stables.' "

So the girls quickly start cleaning the stables. Ferdi and Ron join them, while Rene equalizes the indoor walking place. The girls are working hard, but the two guys tell them to hurry. Then the guys decide to help them and clean out some stables too. Ferdi seems to be afraid of horses, as he carefully walks into a stable, keeping an eye on the horse and jumping back for every move the horse makes. Ron seems to be scared too, because he first wants to watch how Ferdi does it, before he goes into a stable himself.
They have 15 minutes left and Rene has finished his job. He goes to the others in the stables and tells Ferdi one person has to ride a horse. That person has to be taught first, has to saddle the horse and then has to ride it. Ferdi calls Elise, because she has ridden a horse before, but she's at the end of the stables, so they quickly decide to let Rene go, because he also knows what has to be done.
Rene is taught and saddles the horse. He's about to get ready, when the others arrive. They have finished cleaning the stables and riding the horse is the only job left to do to win 2,500 €. Rene tells them they can still change places, because Elise has ridden a horse before, but the girls say Rene can ride if he wants to.
Rene:"I don't mind, but we have to win 2,500 € here!"

Rene:"I didn't want Elise to ride the horse, because she can tell us she has ridden a horse before, but then fail the last job and say that the horse didn't listen to her and then we would lose money again. So I chose to ride the horse, even though I've never done that before."
Ferdi:"I had the feeling we would fail in the last job, because the girls had ridden a horse before and Rene hadn't, so I thought maybe it's better to let one of the girls ride the horse."

Rene rides the horse anyway and has 5 minutes left. He has to ride to letters. First he rides to the M, then to the O, next up is the L and oh look, it's the E! The other 4 notice it. Rene succeeds and they win 2,500 €. They have 29,900 € now.

That evening, they have to eat and sleep in the camper again. Later that night, though a cameraman quickly follows two contestants, who sneakily walk away...

Elise:"Ferid suggested to make a deal with me, so we could find the Mole together. It was quite a difficult decision to me, because I don't really trust him, but it's a risk you've got to take."

Ferdi and Elise go into a stable and talk. Ferdi:"Who has the best outfits? Who has the most clothes?" Elise:"Yeah... Chandrika." Ferdi:"Yeah, she has three winter trousers and 5 different warm sweaters, she has everything!"

Elise:"He really thinks it's Chandrika, which is his good right. He should do that if thinks it's her. But I'm doubting about it."

Ferdi:"You can't make me doubt about it." Elise:"No, if you think it's her, you have to go for her."
CC
Ferdi:"Elise gave me the feeling she knew who I suspected, but she also told me she thought I had the wrong person. That could be tactical, to make me confused, but it could also be that she was really trying to help me."

Elise:"I've started doubting lately..." Ferdi:"But who did you vote for last time? In Sacacomie? Because I know who Patricia voted for."
Elise thinks about it, but doesn't get the opportunity to answer, because Ferdi shows her his notebook, which is filled with notes about Chandrika.
Patricia voted Chandrika and got eliminated. Elise:"So this would mean, everyone suspects Chandrika?" Ferdi:"Yep." Elise:"But I find it very weird that Rene..." Ferdi:"He just wants us to suspect him! Because, from the moment you vote for someone other than Chandrika, you're gone!"
Elise:"But he's trying to make me look suspicious." Ferdi:"He tries to create confusion."

Elise:"We shared information with each other and concluded that Chandrika is very suspicious, but I still think of Rene as The Mole."

Elise:"I also have the feeling that Rene and Chandrika did something before they came to the appartment. You know, after the challenge with the several jobs and the metro station we had to go to? Well, they did something there, I'm sure of it!"
Ferdi:"But what?"
Elise:"I don't know." flashback of Rene and Chandrika arriving in the apartment after meeting George, but not telling any of the others about it.
Elise:"So we're all on the right Mole and Rene is trying to make us change our minds. So that means one of the others will be eliminated... Chandrika, Ron,..." Ferdi:"No not Chandrika, she can't be eliminated. Ron, you or me."
Elise:"So we don't say anything to Ron about it. Ron has to go."
Ferdi:"Yep."

Ferdi:"The most important thing now is to get rid of the others as quick as possible and Elise agreed to play The Mole today! We're very curious."

Elise:"Yeah I already thought about acting very suspicious and being very obvious, because he tries to make me look suspicious anyway."
CC
Elise:"The deal we made is that we will give each other information when we think we need to and also that we trust each other. We can be sure of each other that we're not The Mole."

They silently get back into the camper...

Day 17 - Iberville
It's Ferdi's birthday today. They bought him a cake with a 28 shaped candle on it and got him a present (a squeaky animal for his dog).

Ferdi:"I got a pie and a present today from my fellow-contestants, which was quite fun. It makes it feel like a real birthday. But still, it's business as usual and we're just acting like nothing happened and continue."

On the way to the next challenge, some contestants go through their notebooks. We hear soundtrack from Requiem for a Dream.
CC
Ron:"If I would be in the final round, I'd want to play it with... well, The Mole of course and secondly I'd go for Ferdi or Rene. It doesn't matter much to me, as long as I can get to the final round, that's fine."
Ferdi:"Eventually, someone has to go. I think Rene is suspecting Chandrika 100 %. Ron is the only one who has been doubting for a long time and if you're doubting, you easily slip."

They arrive at an old factory, Grain Elevators Montreal. We suddenly hear voices and see monitors with people on it, spread throughout the factory.
The contestants are outside and meet the host, who tells them they need to look for numbers which form a phone number. If they think they've got the right phone number, they have to go to the other side of the factory, where they'll find a car and a phone. If it's the correct number, they'll get an address, where they have to go to. They get 90 minutes. They can win 5,000 € with it and if they're on time, they'll get a pleasant surprise.
Time starts and they enter the factory. They see a lot of numbers on poles and walls. Elise hears something and searches where the noise comes from. Chandrika hears it too. Elise asks Rene if he can hear anything too.

Chandrika:"People started running around like crazy."
Elise:"We saw numbers all over the place, on walls and doors... so at we first, we didn't know what to do."

Rene finds a monitor in a dark corner and asks Ron to go get Ferdi. On the monitor is a woman, saying:"Multiply the house number of my parents by the month we got our dog." which is repeated over and over. On the screen they also see 'x 5', meaning they have to multiply it with 5. There's also a number 4 on the screen, which tells them in which place in the phone number the outcome should be. The correct answer is 6 x 4 x 5 = 120

So, spread around the factory are monitors with loved ones of the contestants, telling them a mathematical problem. The numbers they need to find are so personal, that only the correct contestant knows the answer.
Elise and Rene find Ron's girlfriend, but they don't know where he is and yell his name. Ron's girlfriend:"Deduct the number on the pilar next to me from my year of birth." (answer: 1963 - 61 = 1902) It's monitor 1, so the phone numbers starts with 1902.
Chandrika has found the car already. What they don't know, is that the carkeys are attached to one of the monitors. Chandrika has climbed the stairs next to the car, but it's a lot of steps. Rene runs up the stairs, going all the way to the top floor of the factory. There, Rene finds a monitor with a guy on it, saying:"You've just climbed a numer of steps. The number of steps consist of three numbers. Add those three numbers together and add my age to that." 
We also see the keys hanging on the monitor.
Rene is up there alone. He can't solve the clue, because the guy is a friend of Chandrika. Only she knows his age. Rene goes back down, counting the steps. They have 65 minutes left. The others are meanwhile climbing the steps. Rene tells them to shut up, because he's counting. He's at 104 steps already. He tells them he thinks it's Chandrika's friend and they all go upstairs, while Rene continues counting the steps. He reaches the floor and counts to 154. But apparently he starts doubting whether the last step (from the stairs to the ground) also counts as a step. He tells the others it's 153 steps and they ask Chandrika how old her friend is.

Chandrika:"I was really doubting whether he was 31, 32... or 33. That was difficult, I always forget ages."

Chandrika thinks he's 33. So, the number they find for monitor 5 is 1+5+3 + 33 = 42
Ron and Elise find another monitor upstairs. It's her boyfriend:"On which day in September 1995 was our relationship official? Deduct that number from the number on the door." Elise thinks it's 21. The door number is 46, so that makes 25 for monitor 3.
Chandrika and Ferdi discuss her friend's age. Ferdi:"Have you celebrated his 30th birthday already?"

Ferdi:"Chandrika acted as if she didn't know what the age was. It was funny to watch. But eventually she did give in and told the truth."
Elise:"My boyfriend asked the question on which it was official between us, but that's a question we never know the answer to, because we always doubt between 17 and 21."

Rene finds the monitor with his own wife on it:"In which month did we meet first? Deduct the number on the pilar from it." That's 11 - 9 = 2 for monitor 2.
They all get back to the car and think they have the correct number.
They still doubt a little about Chandrika and Elise. Also, Ferdi counted the steps and came to 152. Ron also counted them and had 154 steps. They go for his number of steps and call the number.
We see a local pub and a cell phone lying on a table. But it doesn't ring. They have the wrong number, which costs them 1,000 €.

Rene:"Elise wasn't sure about a certain date which her boyfriend asked and because of that, the phone number was wrong. It's Elise again... Chandrika wasn't sure about her number either, but did say it correctly."
Ferdi:"It costed 1,000 € but I liked it. I hope someone will think Elise's The Mole now, which is good for me too."

Rene calls the adjusted number and the cell phone rings. A woman answers and it turns out to be Rene's wife. He asks her where they have to go to. She doesn't know, but they quickly ask the address of the pub they're at and give it to the contestants. They all get in the car and want to start... but there are no keys!

Rene:"When we got in the car, there wasn't any key there. We thought someone kept it away from us."

They go search for the key. Rene runs back up to the top floor and finds the keys. They all get in the car and Ferdi drives off. They have 8 and a half minutes left to reach the pub.
In the car: Rene:"So where did it go wrong then?" Elise:"It was my fault." Rene:"So we lost 1,000 €because of you?" Elise:"Yep."
They arrive on time and meet their loved ones. They win 4,000 € and now have 33,900 €.

Rene:"Yeah, I missed her a lot. I had called her once because we won the phone minutes. And now she's sitting next to me, which is nice."
Ron:"I'm glad to finally see someone I can trust. At a certain point you want someone who you can talk to in a normal way or just sit next to."

The host has a new challenge for them. They have to sing a song which reminds them of a certain occassion. If their loved one can say which occassion it is, they win 250 €.
And thus, the journey ends the way it started: whilst singing.
Ron and Rene have chosen the same song: I Want to Hold You Hand - Beatles.

Rene's wife:"I think Rene stands a fair chance at winning. If Rene goes for something, he's going for it 100 %. So I think he might be able to win. If he starts something he will do his best to end it in a positive way."

Ron's girlfriend thinks the song means he missed her a lot. Rene's wife thinks about her wedding day during the song. It's correct and they win 500 € for the pot.
Ferdi sings 'Who Let The Dogs' Out from Baha Men. They only show him singing that one line over and over.

Ferdi's girlfriend:"I would be very happy if he got eliminated tonight. Even though everyone at home told me not to tell him that, because he's almost there."

His song was very obvious. It was about his dog. 250 € in the pot!
Chandrika sings You've got a friend by James Taylor. She has quite a nice voice.

Chandrika's friend:"When she started singing a whole new world opened up for me! I didn't know she could sing so well! It could've lasted a while longer for me. It was great!"

Being her friend, he knows why she sung You've Got A Friend. They win 250 €.
Elise is an even better singer than Chandrika! She sings Frank Sinatra's I've Got You Under My Skin and even dances to it and starts dancing with her boyfriend.

Elise's boyfriend:"I thought it was great how she was singing for me. I have to admit I got very sentimental of it."

The song was "their song" and he knew it. They win another 250 € and now have 33,150 €.

Rene's wife:"I wouldn't be surprised if Rene turned out to be The Mole, because I just think he's very capable of being The Mole. So it could very well be."
Chandrika's friend:"I really don't know, I... I just can't answer that."
Ron's girlfriend:"I don't think so."
Ferdi's girlfriend:"Sometimes even I start doubting that maybe he is The Mole."
Elise's boyfriend:"No I can't imagine Elise's The Mole. She's too happy, too spontaneous and direct to be The Mole."

Suspicions
Ron:"I still don't know for sure. I thought that would be different. It could still be Chandrika, but I think it's Elise more." flashback to the factory where they're discussing the age of Chandrika's boyfriend. Rene:"Are you sure of his date of birth?" Chandrika:"No, 'cause then I would've known his age of course!" "I don't know whether that was real or fake of her. You couldn't see it well, but I guess that's good work of The Mole to do it like that."
Elise:"I just can't make a choice. I keep on having two Moles. Rene keeps on being suspicious. He mounted that horse even though he had never ridden a horse before. Very strange things happen and it's either Rene or Chandrika." flashback Ferdi and Elise go into a stable and talk. Ferdi:"Who has the best outfits? Who has the most clothes?" Elise:"Yeah... Chandrika." Ferdi:"Yeah." "Chandrika had to know her friend's age, but didn't know it.... I just don't know."
Rene:"Elise... Elise is my Mole." flashback  to last episode where they had to do the car spinning stunt. "I drove the car first and taught her how to do it The first attempt she made a perfect turn and her second try went wrong. I noticed she hit the breaks, which I had forbidden her to do."
Ferdi:"I've said about 16 times now that I have one main suspect and that I'll stick to that until the end." flashback  to Ferdi and Chandrika discussing her friend's age. "She did a little play, acting like she really didn't know, but eventually she did have to give two numbers under pressure, which she did."
Chandrika:"I've gone over all challenges again and over the contestants too and I ended out on Elise." flashback  In the car: Rene:"So where did it go wrong then?" Elise:"It was my fault." Rene:"So we lost 1,000 € because of you?" Elise:"Yep." "Elise didn't exactly know whether it was the 21st or the 17th and she guessed wrong."

Suspicious in this episode
Elise and Chandrika took the lead in singing the songs, but they didn't sing one of the three songs that would win them money.
The guys only cleaned out the hallway of the stables and not the stables themselves, which nearly cost them the challenge, because they ran out of time.
Rene rode the horse, even though he had never ridden a horse before and Elise and Chandrika had.
Rene and Ferdi counted the steps wrong.
Rene didn't see the key.
Chandrika and Elise doubted about their number. Elise had it wrong.

Elimination
This elimination is together with the loved ones.

Rene:"I hope I'll stay in, because I want to get to the final round."
Ferdi:"But you can never be sure in this game. Really not."
Ron:"If I'm wrong, I'll be sent home tonight. When you're this close, you just want to stay in, because you want to go until the end."
