Dutch Mole 4
Episode 4
No one got eliminated last time. Chandrika, Rene,
Ron or Astrid was the lowest scorer... one of them would have been
sent home if they didn't jump.
Saint John - Canada
Instructions tape:"Hi Mole, how are you? Did you find it
scary when they were watching you? Knowing you, you probably weren't." flashback
to the previous episode where all contestants (except Ron) are watching
the mysterious videotape of The Mole. "Be careful! You are being
watched! And I find you're taking a lot of risks as Mole." flashback
The contestants count down fro Ron and he jumps. "They won
a lot of money last time." flashback
The host hands them 8,000 € for succeeding in the Bridge Swing Challenge. "But
luckily they lost money too!" flashback
Astrid (in the supermarket, talking to Aafke on the walki-talki
after they found out they misscalculated):"Wrong, We are wrong!" and
a shot of Rene handing back money for the ribbons that were brought in on
time.
"I'll give you a list with suspicions, so you know who's
suspecting who. You can take an advantage of it during the interview."
We see a quick shot of the list:

Day 7 Saint John
They drive to Quebec. They made it to the local newspaper and are
reading the article, titled 'Saint John wind blows The Mole off schedule'.

Ron:"Money is of less importance in the group. At this moment,
everyone just wants to play the game and keep playing it. The same thing goes
for me, money doesn't matter to me either. I just want to play the game and get
rid of as much competitors as possible."
Astrid:"There's a Mole amongst us. We're not a group, it's
just appearence. It's fun if you win money together for the pot, but you're also
each other's competitors. That's one of the more difficult things in the game.
On one side you have to work together as a team and on the other side you have
to keep an eye on everyone and be suspicious."
They sleep at a Motel.
Day 8 - Quebec
The host welcomes the contestants outside. It's cold again. Host:"Today
I need a volunteer. Someone who..." [Elise already raises her
hand] "... hasn't been apart rom the group before." So the host
tells Elise to come to her. She can choose someone else to do a challenge
with. She goes for Ferdi. As they're waiting in the cold, a limousine
arrives and Ferdi and Elise can get in. Theyfind champagne in the
limousine and enjoy everything.

Elise:"I've been suspecting Ferdi for a while and that's why I
chose him, so I could observe him closely."
Ferdi:"Me and Elise get along well. I think that's why she
chose me."
They drive to Chateau Frontenac, a big castle-like hotel for the rich. They
get pampered. In an envelope they find what will happen: a massage, a foam bath,
get a hair cut, have a fancy dinner, ... It seems as though they will have a day
of luxury.
What they don't know yet is that one of them could win an exemption! An
exemption that might cost them a lot of money.

Elise:"I didn't get any wiser out of it. I still don't know if
he's The Mole. It's difficult. I tried to provoke him a little, but it didn't
work."
Duchesnay
The other contestants are taken to Duchesnay for a lumberjack challenge.
They have to pick an envelope first and can then open it. It contains a picture
and description of what they have to do.
Chandrika has 'boiling water' and laughs.
Rene has 'throwing axes'.
Astrid: 'sawing with a chainsaw'. She rolls her eyes as she reads it and
the host laughs.
Patricia: 'cleaving wood'
Ron: 'climbing a tree'
Aafke: 'rolling on tree logs'
Their opponents arrive. Some of them are big strong men. Patricia:"I
give up already!! Look at how strong they are!"
But there are two girls too. Three of the six lumberjacks are real. They
each have to choose an opponent. Every game they win, brings 1,000 € to the
pot.
Chandrika chooses a slender guy. Rene goes for a big strong guy. Astrid
also chooses a guy as opponent. Patricia chooses a girl, Ron
another guy and so Aafke has to battle against the girl that remains.
Championship Water Boiling: Lumberjack vs Chandrika
A can of water is hanging on a wire. They have to make a fire underneath it
and use the small sticks of wood they got to let it burn. The person who's water
boils over first, has won. Chandrika is competing against a real
lumberjack, but she doesn't know that. She looks at the other guy to see how he
does it and tries to do it the same way. The others are trying to help Chandrika.
She soon has a big fire going. Patricia:"Wow, you're realling
doing great!"
The lumberjack also has a fire. He uses the wooden sticks to build a kind of tower
aroud the can. Chandrika sees it and tries to do the same, but the
lumberjacks water boils over and gusts out of the can.
Lumberjacks: 1
Contestants: 0

Patricia:"Chandrika's challenge was the water boiling. I think
she knew who the real lumberjack was and chose the real one. So I'm not doubting
at all! I actually know who The Mole is!"
Championship Rolling on tree logs: Lumberjack vs Aafke
They have to stand on a log, which lies horizontally on two vertical logs.
Using a pole, they have to roll to the end of the two logs, while trying to keep
on standing on the rolling log. Both girls start off, but fall immediately. Aafke
falls over on her back. Her contestant is NOT a real lumberjack. So there's a
good chance of winning. They fall several times, but the girl makes it to the
other side first.
Lumberjacks: 2

Aafke:"It really sucked that it didn't work out. I'm not happy
at all with my performance, I'm really not. I could have done it ten times
better! Looking back of course..."
Rene will be throwing axes, but for this game, both
participants are obliged to practice the throwing three times first before
starting. The round board the axe has to be thrown at is divided into circles.
The inner circle is worthe five points and from then on 4, 3, 2 and 1 for the
outer circle. The person with most points, wins.
Rene's first practice throw is great! He hits the second inner circle,
worth 4 points. The man who's coordinating all lumberjack games, tells Rene
he thinks he would be better throwing the axe with one hand. So Rene
tries it and hits the 3 points ring! His last try too gets in the 3 points ring.
The other contestants are cheering.

Rene:"They were all cheering and said I must have done it
before, because it was so great... but then the pressure came, because then it
was for real."
Championship Axe throwing: Lumberjack vs Rene
Chances to win are even, because Rene chose a fake lumberjack.
The lumberjack is up first. He uses both hands and hits the 1 point circle.
Rene - Lumberjack: 0 - 1
Rene is up next. The contestants cheer him on a little, but try to be
quiet to let him concentrate. He throws. The back of the axe hits the bullseye,
but doesn't get into the board and falls...
Rene - Lumberjack: 0 - 1
Lumberjack throws again and hits the 3 circle.
Rene - Lumberjack: 0 - 4
Rene throws again. The axe flies next to the board...
Rene - Lumberjack: 0 - 4
Lumberjack's turn again. He hits 3 again.
Rene - Lumberjack: 0 - 7
Rene can't win anymore. The highest he can score is 5. He throws anyway,
but the axe flies next to the board again.... Lumberjack wins with 7 to 0.
Lumberjacks: 3
Contestants: 0

Rene:"I could have done better. Definitely. I should have
concentrated more. No one said 'Hmm could it be a Mole action of you?' or 'How
weird that first you through well and next you don't.' No. They didn't say
anything like that."
The others go to him. Astrid:"But your first three tries were
great, so you are capable of it!" Rene:"Yeah, but what
do I win with that?!" Astrid:"No, ok, but you can do
it."
Championship Cleaving wood: Lumberjack vs Patricia
They each get one big log which they have to cleave into 4 parts. The
person who finishes first, wins. Patricia is up against a girl, who isn't
a real lumberjack. Both start chopping. After a while, Patricia has 2
parts already. It's now easier to cleave the smaller parts and she wins! Their
first 1,000 € in thischallenge get added to the pot.

Championship Tree Climbing: Lumberjack vs Ron
Using a rope, they have to climb a tree and blow a whistle when reaching
the top. The quickest person wins. The lumberjack goes first and gets up the
tree quite quickly. Having reached the top, the lumberjack tries to grab the
whistle, but it's twirling around, wasting one or two seconds. The opponent Ron
chose is a real lumberjack. It takes the lumberjack only 23 seconds to reach the
top and blow the whistle.
Ron goes next. The others cheer at him. He's very fast, reaches the top
and blows the whistle... in 22 seconds!! One second faster than the real
lumberjack. They all cheer at him and say he's great. Another 1,000 € won.

Rene:"Today's hero was Ron! He went up that tree like a
monkey!"
Aafke:"I found Ron was also great climbing that tree."
Ron:"Am I the hero of the group? I hope not, because then
they will expect more from me!"
Championship Chainsaw: Lumberjack vs Astrid
The person who can saw the 5 thinnest slices from the log, wins. Her
opponent is a real lumberjack. The lumberjack is quite fast, but Astrid
tries to take it slower, making sure she saws thin slices. She wins!
Lumberjacks: 3
Contestants: 3
They win 3,000 €, making the group pot 26,900 €.

Aafke:"Today was super! We won money again, 3,000 € and we're
all very happy about it. And I also enjoy it if people do things well and enjoy
it when other people enjoy it. It feels good."
Chateau Frontenac
Ferdi and Elise watch a video. The host appears with the 6
lumberjacks in the background. "Hello Ferdi and Elise, you're probably
enjoying yourselves. Your fellow contestants are going to battle against these
lumberjacks. Every contestant has to battle in one game. Every game they win,
brings 1,000 € to the pot. But only 3 of these 6 lumberjacks are real ones. If
you can guess how many games the contestants won, you get an exemption. If one
of you takes that exemption, the money they won, will be taken from the
pot."
Ferdi and Elise see what every contestant has to do and
discuss it. They think Aafke has failed and Rene too. They guess Patricia
and Ron won. Ferdi:"And I can see Astrid winning it
too!" Elise:"Yeah I think so too. And we have three real
lumberjacks anyway..." Ferdi:"OK then we'll just go for
3. And then we have another dilemma..." Elise:"The
exemption?" Ferdi:"Yep."
If they are right, they will lose the money the others won in the challenge
AND have to pay the same amount again. So they would lose 6,000 €.
The others are sitting around a campfire. A band is playing some
folk music and everyone's enjoying theirselves and dancing around.
Elise:"Be honest."
Ferdi:"Honestly? I want the money. And you?"
Elise:".. I'd like the exemption." (both laugh)
Ferdi:"OK, but then you have to involve me in it too."
Elise:"Why? Yeah you've... How do you mean?"
...
Ferdi:"Well, you can have that exemption if we're correct... but
then I'd like to have some information from you."
Elise:"What kind of information."
Ferdi:"Well you just have to be honest and we have to judge
whether you deserve that exemption or not."
Elise:"Why?"
Ferdi:"Because we both have the right to get that
exemption."
Elise:"Of course we both have the right to get it, but you're
always 100 % sure of yourself."
Ferdi:"No I'm not really that sure, I'm always nervous about
it. I just don't like exemptions. The game has to be played, the sooner people
get eliminated the better."
Elise:"I don't think so. Exemptions are also part of the
game. And now that I've got the chance to take it... I mean, yesterday I decided
not to take it, and now I do have the chance for it. And yesterday, on that
bridge.... I nearly died!" Flashback
Elise:"We had to make a decision, so I stepped back."
and next getting a green screen and being very relieved. "And
now that I get the offer, I want to take it."
Ferdi:"Yes, but you can't share it."
Elise:"No you can't, one of us can take it."
Ferdi:"Then I feel I've got as much right to have it as
you."
Elise:"Of course you have!"
Ferdi:"Then we draw lots for it!"
Elise:"But you are sure of yourself...."
Ferdi:"Nope, we draw lots, that's the honest way."
Duchesnay
Ferdi and Elise arrive at the campfire with the others and
tell them about the luxurious day they had. And then they also have to tell them
about their assignment. They went for 3 games won. And that's correct! One of
them gets the exemption....
Flashback Ferdi throws
a coin for heads or tails. It's tails and he wins.
So Ferdi has the exemption. The group doesn't get the 3,000 €
from the challenge and even has to pay another 3,000 €. So that's minus 6,000
€. They are back to 20.900 €.

Rene:"It was quite nasty that we had to hand in the money. We
lost the money we won, plus the same amount from the pot. But he deserves the
exemption, it's great for him. He can get another 3 days further into the game
now, but still, it doesn't feel nice."
Ron:"I do feel like I climbed up that f***ing tree for
nothing now, but oh well. I told Ferdi he can win it back for us by winning the
challenge tomorrow, so he'll just have to do his best."
Chandrika:"I think it's logical to choose for an exemption.
Yesterday they didn't like it one bit that we chose to jump from that
bridge." flashback
Ferdi:"Chandrika's fear of heights was a farce."
"Now Ferdi has an exemption and no one says anything about it
or no one complains. I am mature enough in it and I grant it to him, but... he
should see himself later on."
Later that night, they can interview each other. This is their
chance to gain information from each other, to mislead each other and to try to
find an answer to the question 'Who is The Mole?'.

Chandrika and Patricia talk with each other.
Chandrika:"Are you The Mole?"
Patricia:"What do you think? I think you know the answer the
best to that! No... euhm.. I'm not The Mole."
Chandrika:"Did you do any fun Mole actions lately?"
Patricia:"I... gave away an exemption for the group. That's
no Mole action at all. I thought there was only one Mole action and that was
you. I was angry about it that you wanted that exemption, being The Mole."
Chandrika smiles a little, but keeps a straight face.
CC
Patricia:"It's not about who she suspects. It's about whether
she plays the game well. I mean, she suspects no one, because she's The Mole
herself."
Astrid:"I was so fed up with everything. So I didn't talk
about the game, but about the stuff we do outside our job. It was a great
conversation. A kind of interhuman contact."
- 
Astrid has a conversation with Rene.
Astrid:"A good friend of mine, has been photographing me for over
15 years. Two times a year. So I'm his model and he uses me for one special kind
of photography."
Rene listens.
Patricia:"Do you ever lie and if you do, what
about?"
Chandrika:"Yes I do lie about things. However, at this moment
I can't think of anything I've lied about... nope."
Patricia:"Well... stange."
CC
Aafke:"I asked Elise for the interrogation. I was curious about
her conclusions."
- 
Aafke and Elise have a little chat together, mostly about hte
exemption.
Elise:"I really wanted to have that exemption, but of course it
costs us a lot..."
CC
Aafke:"Elise had the feeling that she decided about the
exemption too. Hmmm. I doubt that though."
Elise:"Of course, it was our decision and he won
the exemption eventually."
CC
Elise:"I felt like she thought Ferdi had guided the decision to
go for the exemption and that I got manipulated."

Ferdi and Ron talk together.
Ferdi:"Do you feel you have a clear opinion now, because
yesterday you were very unsure?"
Ron:"I still am."
Ferdi:"Shall we make a deal or something then?"
Ron:"How do you mean? You already have an exemption, so it's
hard to make some kind of deal."
Ferdi:"Yes but I do know of some other people who they
suspect."
Ron:"Well, that might come in handy."
Ferdi:"I would like you to stay in the game."
Ron:"Me too."
....
Astrid:"That's when I realized what kind of power
photography can have."
Rene:"Do you also go to a cabaret or something?"
Astrid:"I do go to a cabarat some times. Not
so very often, but..."
CC
Rene:"You play it nice, but you're still The Mole to me."
...
Ferdi:"But you do agree someone has to leave
tomorrow?"
Ron:"Yes, someone has to go. There's no other way. Otherwise
we will still continue with this group and it's time that..."
Ferdi:"...the number of contestants shrinks."
...
Aafke:"An exemption doesn't bring any advantage
to the group! Only one big disadvantage."
Elise:"Hmmm not really a big disadvantage."
Aafke:"Sure there is, because someone has to go tomorrow and
Ferdi is exempted. Or you would have been exempted. The chance for me to be
eliminated tomorrow is bigger now."
Elise:"Yep. And next time I get offered an exemption, I will
take it again."
Aafke:"OK, I heard what I wanted to hear."
Elise:"OK, then I'm going to ask you a question. Who do you
suspect?!"
Aafke:"Who do I suspect? I'm not going to tell you. I don't
have any advantage in telling you who I suspect."
Elise:"No you're right.... are you The Mole?"
Aafke(laughs):"That's absolutely something I won't tell
you!"
Both laugh.

Ron:"You can draw certain conclusions out of who wanted to
interview which person. Chandrika really wanted to talk with Patricia. Suppose
she suspects Patricia a lot and wants to have that confirmed, so she talks with
PAtricia. If Patricia then gets eliminated, you'd think Chandrika was completely
wrong."
Chandrika:"It's all in the game. No one knows what anyone
else thinks of other people."
Day 9 - Duchesnay
A few days ago, Aafke told the group she opened her tube,
but she doesn't want to tell them what was in the tube.
Flashback
Astrid takes the label of the tube. Aafke
opens her. There's a white piece of paper in it with text written on it. She
reads it. We don't see what's on it.

Aafke:"I eventually decided to tell the group I had opened my
tube and I advised them not to do it too, because my information probably got
lost because of it. Some people almost fell off their chairs, they had different
reactions. Some people don't trust me at all anymore."
Day 6 - Saint John
The contestants are sitting around the dinner table and Aafke just told
them about the tube.
Elise:"So what was in it then?"
Aafke:"Based on what was in my tube, I gave you the advise
not to open it and whather you believe me or not..."
Elise:"No I do believe you. I'm not going to open. But I'm
just very curious from the the information you gave."
Aafke:"I completely understand. I know what's in my tube, I
don't know what's in yours."

Elise:"I don't know what's in it. I didn't open mine. I'm
trusting her judgement. It's just strange that she opened it. I believe it
already happened on day one or something."
Back to dinner table:
Ron:"If she's The Mole, she's not telling the truth. If she
isn't, she's not. So you can't do anything with the information she gave."
CC
Aafke:"I do hope they won't open it by the way. That's more
important. I think there's important information in it and the more people who
open it, the less information we have."
The contestants meet the host in a forest at Parc de la
Montmorency. She tells them they will do an assignment in which they have to use
all their senses. First, however, they have to decide how much money from the
pot they are going to bet for this challenge. If they succeed, they'll get that
money. If they don't, they'll have to pay it. Host:"The maximum bet is
5,000 euro."
Elise is first to suggest to go for 5,000 euro, she almost says it at
the same time as the others. SO they all agree to go for the maximum.
The host asks 5,000 euro from their pot (guarded by Rene) and nails it to
a tree. They walk away from the tree through the forest and have to use
their senses. Next, they all get blindfolded and have to find the tree again
within 30 minutes. Aafke closes her eyes when they walk away from the
tree and is guided by Elise. Aafke tries to use her scent to find
the way back. But then Rene arrives near her and he's wearing strong
aftershave, which confuses her scent.
The challenge starts.
They all start talking about how to do it. Elise:"Let's not walk
all in a row. I don't think that's handy."
Aafke:"I can go first, because I already walked with my eyes
closed."
Everyone talks through each other. They all hold each other and move in one
group, still talking through each other and asking if everyone's still together
and telling each other the road is going down or up.

Patricia:"It was a bit chaotic. Everyone was talking through
each other and some said 'I know exactly where to go to.' I know I didn't have
to meddle in, because my orientation is really bad. If I see 'We have to go
left.' we just have to go to the right."
They're still talking and yelling. Eventually they decide to all
shut up and let everyone talk one by one. Ron says there was a branch of a tree
on the ground near the path.
Ferdi:"There was also a log next to the path."
Aafke feels the log and stands up on it:"Here's the
log!"

Aafke:"I was standing on the log. There was a log at the
beginning of the little path. So I said 'I can feem the log?' and he went 'Naaah
that's not the one.' That was quite amazing of him, because I was so overwhelmed
that I too believed it wasn't the right log."
Rene takes the lead. He knows there's a small tree near
the path and knows how many paces the tree should be at. He counts the paces,
but doesn't feel the small tree. He does walk past a small tree though, but
didn't feel it. (however it's not known if that was the tree he meant)

Rene:"At the ned of the hill, I knew if I go down here, because
you can feel you're going down, even with a blindfold, I knew I had to take 7
paces and feel the tree and that we had to turn right there, because that tree
was right next to the path."
Ferdi thinks they have to go back. Aafke says they
have to continue one hill further. They decide to continue. But then we see the
were at right spot already and had to turn right! They walk past the host and
the tree.

Patricia:"The Mole was one of the people who said we had to
continue. So she did try to let the group continue, which worked out in
the beginning, but we turned around anyway after a while. So I think, what The
Mole does, is agreeing with someone who suggest to continue. If someone says
'Should we conintue?' The Mole will say 'Yes indeed, let's continue.' but The
Mole won't be the first one to suggest it."
Ferdi can feel at the snow that they didn't walk there.
The snow is still fresh and hasn't been walked on. Elise is meanwhile
feeling a tree. "It was a bit hollow above and there should be a bulge
on the side... it's not this tree."
Ferdi gets on his knees and crawls forward
CC
Ron:"I let the other search at the end where we had to find the
small path, because I didn't know where to go. So I didn't interfere there. I
waited what would come and waited for Ferdi and Rene."
They have 4 and a half minutes left. Rene feels they
should turn to the right and they decide to follow his feeling. Ferdi is
still crawling on hands and knees. Aafke is behind him and asks where he
is. She almost trips over his feet. Elise too asks where Ferdi is.

Aafke:"Well at one point he was lying in front of my feet in the
small path. I don't think he could go anywhere because I kept holding on to him.
At one point I felt someone and I asked 'Who is this?'and he didn't say anything
at all. So I touched his hair and I felt it was Ferdi."
Rene has found the small tree he was looking for. Ferdi
is still crawling. Aafke and Chandrika are holding hands. They
walk past the tree! Rene walks towards the tree though and finds the
money with one minute 55 seconds left on the timer! They all take of their
blindfolds and are happy. They win 5,000 € and now have a total of 25,900 €.

Ferdi:"I tried my best today to make good for what happened
yesterday [Ferdi winning the exemption, costing the group money] I
went on my knees for the group! That's quite funny. And I was very glad Rene
foudn the money. Because it's very important to him that the challenges succeed.
I don't care that much about the money. I'm here to play a really cool game.
Suspicions
Astrid:"I'm nervous for the questionnaire and the elimination. I
feel like I'll be sent home one of these days. I constantly see things that
acknowledge my suspicions. Aafke once decided to open her tube together with me.
I felt honoured that she asked me to open it with her. But then one moment she
herself told the group about it. I thought that was very remarkable, because it
was a matter of trust. I felt very left behind."
Aafke:"There are some people who absolutely aren't The Mole,
but there also still are people of whom I think that they could be it. I'm still
doubting about everyone though, even though I'm saying it's Ferdi now. Yesterday
I thought it was Chandrika... well... I don't suspect her today anymore either.
It might as well be Astrid or maybe even Patricia. I don't know anymore, it's
really... this is very difficult, you know."
Elise:"It's still difficult. I tried to provoke a little, but
I didn't really get more information from Ferdi with out relaxing day. I still
don't know if he's The Mole."
Chandrika:"You know what's worst of all? I find it very
difficult to get rid of my intuition and therefor it's difficult to switch to
someone else. I have had my doubts, but I can't believe it's Ferdi, because it's
so very obvious and because if he's The Mole, he's a very bad Mole.
Flashback of Ferdi
taking several red ribbons and building weird constructions.
"From the beginning I already had a kind of feeling that it's
Patricia."
Flashback Patricia
and Julien are discussing Leonardo Dicaprio's age in episode 2. Patricia:"Let's
go for 30."
"But it's very difficult."
Ron:"I don't know for sure who's The Mole anymore. I'm
doubting between two... even three people. You just have to make a choice and
hope you're right. And right now I didn't see Patricia doing anything why she
would be it, so she's still suspect number one."
Rene:"As far as I could see, I didn't observe any Mole
actions. I stick to my first choice, it's just a feeling. Astrid is still my
first suspect for The Mole. She did succeed in the sawing challenge, but a Mole
doesn't always have to strike."
Patricia:"I can't find anything with anyone that prooves to
me that I'm on the wrong track. My talk yesterday was absolutely a confirmation
that she is The Mole. Chandrika wanted to interview me, not vice versa."
Flashback Interview Patricia
- Chandrika. Chandrika (thhinks):"I can't remember th
questionnaire anymore..." "She likes to lie. If she
knows I suspect her, I don't mind. She's The Mole anyway. She can know I suspect
her, I even told her."
Elimination
Ferdi
has an exemption. He won't be going home this time. But who will?
Episode 5
Home
