Day 7
The team has to appoint 2 sea scouts. Oliver volunteers.
Together with John he is taken away. The others go fishing. David,
Jennifer and Zi go deep-sea fishing and Sara and Jo-anna
have to get crab pots from the bottom of the bay into their boat. They don't
have much fun. The other three do at sea. Together they have to catch 7 kg of
fish for £5,000.
No one on the boat wants to touch the fish they catch. Zi eventually
volunteers to take the fish off the hook. However, Sara had no problems
at all taking the lobsters and crabs. When time is up they have 12,5 kg of fish
and so they win £5,000. They all go on board of a luxury yacht to celebrate.
At the same time, John and Oliver are taken to an
island, where they have to build a camp that will last at least one night. They
have til 7 pm to build it. After 90 minutes they still haven't got much. John
looks for other ways to build the shelter and keeps pulling down everything that
they just built. But why does Oliver just stand there and let him? They
do finish with something that looks like a shelter. They take away a box of
chocolates and champagne out from the food. John:"The reason
we're doing this is because alcohol lowers the body temperature and that's not
good to survive." The other five get to hear that they have to spend
the night on the island until 7 am to win £10,000. There is a way off for one
of them though. If they use the cellphone to call the host, that person is taken
to the boat and gets a free pass, but the money will be lost.
The five are taken to the island on a motorboat while John and Oliver
peddle to the boat. The both teams cross each other and John and Oliver
show them the champagne and chocolate they took. The five get on the island and Jo-anna
says:"I'll tell you what though . You all laughed at me for having
this!" And she shows a survival guide. On the island the light is
starting to go and the temperature is dropping. Jo-anna decides to skip
dinner, 'cause they're having the fish they caught. John and Oliver
have a luxury meal on the luxury yacht. On the island, everyone has their shorts
on, but Zi changed clothes. He even has other shoes. Zi's not
happy. The others think he'll use the phone to get off the island, so David
and Sara split the mobile phone. David has the battery, whereas Sara
keeps the handset. Possible sabotage is also on Jo-anna's mind:"It
gets harder when you get tired, to observe people's body language and strategies
the Mole might be using."
Confession cam:
Sara:"Good evening. I'm very tired, blisters on hands from a
tiring afternoon."
Jo-anna:"My hands are really sore. I've got blisters and fish
spines in my hands. It was really hard."
Sara:"I didn't really like working together with Jo-anna,
'cause we do slightly clash I think."
Jo-anna:"Sara was great. She had no fear at all taking those
crabs and lobsters."
Sara:"There was a point where I was taking in those pots and
I looked back and she just went to drink some water. I thought what on earth is
going on?!"
David:"Fishing was nice."
Zi:"I enjoyed fishing, but didn't like touching everything. I
had to dehook every single fish. I can't handle life animals, if it was dead I
wouldn't have had a problem with it."
David:"It was so incredibly amusing watching Zi handle the
fish."
Jennifer:"When we finished fishing it was cold, we were wet
and when we got to the island and saw that camp we thought 'Oh God, what's gonna
happen next?' "
Oliver:"John did a brilliant job building the shelte. If he
hadn't been there, it wouldn't be as good."
John:"I think both of us felt disappointed for not being on
the island ourselves. We felt left out."
Zi:"When we crossed each othr in the boats all they talked
about was toasting with the champagne. I didn't like it."
Jo-anna:"It's really quite cold. My jeans is wet from the
water getting to the island so I'm down to wearing Zi's shorts with mine under
them. Hope it will be warm enough for this evening."
Sara:"The group seems OK. Zi is a bit quiet tonight. He has
never camped before, so it's a new experience for him."
Zi:"I've camped out once in my life with my mates, but that's
it. This is a whole new ball game."
David:"Zi has turned up with a spare pair of trousers."
Jennifer:"He was the only person having completely changed
clothes. I asked him how he was so perceptive of bringing an extra pair of shoes
and it wasn't too much of a convincing answer."
Zi:"I brought extra clothes 'cause if one of us wanted to go,
we would take the phone and speak to Glenn."
David:"I don't think anyone is gonna go off now 'cause I've
got the battery, so we won't be doing that."
Jo-anna:"I'm annoyed about the box of chocolates and the
champagne John and Ollie took, so words will be said tomorrow."
It's the end of a first week of The Mole. The contestants have
been together constantly for 7 days. On the boat as well as on the island, it's
time to reflect at all the evidence for the Mole:
JENNIFER
Jennifer's first week started badly with her initial reluctance to
jump off the plane. Followed by the apparent 'mistake' which cost the group
£10,000 in the hostage game. Although she was quick to blame others in the golf
challenge, she answered her question incorrectly. And in the maze, where
directions were crucial, she suddenly couldn't tell her left from her right.
OLIVER
Oliver selected an unlikely item he thought was left out of his bags in
the baggage game.
Flashback Episode
1 Oliver:"Black socks...."
They failed...
In the hostage challenge, his phone suddenly and mysteriously couldn't get
through to Zi, even though the number was pre-programmed. In the food
challenge, he, along with David, couldn't concentrate much. To the
annoyance of Jo-anna. Then he selected the wrong wine. And in the maze he
came close to losing £15,000 by turning around and heading back into the maze
and towards the hunters while he was only a few metres away from the exit.
DAVID
David miserably failed in the golf challenge on a straight forward sports
question. Along with Oliver he seemed to see the wine challenge as a big
joke. At the rally, at times of pressure, he pressurised Jennifer and Jo-anna
by shooting out instructions to both.
ZI
Zi made a wrong guess at the baggage.
Flashback Episode
1 Zi:"Levi
combats?"
Yet diverted attention by talking about Gloria
not packing his pants.
Flashback Episode
1 Zi:"I have no
underwear!"
He too was wrong at the golf challenge and
despite his initial confidence, wrong at the food challenge. And in the rally,
when time was really pressing, suddenly he couldn't operate his wrench.
SARA
Sara started so promisingly on the golf, but then suddenly she lost her
touch. She struggled giving Oliver clear directions in the maze and
didn't appear to be concerned when the £5,000 food challenge was lost
Flashback Episode
3 Sara:"You win some and you
lose some."
JO-ANNA
Jo-anna
has been a distant figure. She took the blame for
losing the rally challenge and, like many others, failed at the golf question.
And Zi was worried of her quality about the maze directions.
JOHN
John, a born leader, waisted time by taking the helicopter away after a
phone call to a contact. He failed to remember who founded Jeremy's Zoo at the
golf challenge. And he failed badly with Paul in the maze. Also, John has
been responsible for what could be the most clear act of sabotage by shouting
out during the food challenge that both Zi and Jennifer would
fail.
Day 8
At 5 am, some of the contestants at the
island get out of bed. They have to remain there for 2 more hours. During
breakfast, everyone's silent. David:"Zi, you talk too much!"
To kill time they tear down the shelter and liberate the lobsters and crabs.
Thay win the £10,000 and Glenn calls them for a new challenge. They have to get
to the boat in 2 hours, without getting wet above the waist. There's material on
the island. They can call back to collect them, but the challenge will be lost
then. They can win £5,000. Initially, both Jennifer and Jo-anna
want to refuse the challenge. They eventually go look around for equipment. Zi
finds a dinghy, but there are 2 problems: it's heavy (we see Zi falling
on the ground, carrying the dinghy) and it's got a big hole in it. Sara
reads the directions of the repair kit. It should dry at least 12 hours before
going on the water. Jo-anna is so eager to get off the island, she
ignores the instructions and sticks the patch on the boat immediately. David:"You
have to wait til it's dry." Jo-anna:"Oh, til it's
dry..." David:"But don't take it off now!" They
inflate the boat and they see the air gets in.
Glenn tells them on walkie-talkie that they have about 30 minutes left. Jennifer:"Do
we have dry clothes when we arrive?" Glenn:"All modern comfort
will be here for you." Jennifer:"Do we have dry clothes
when we arrive?" Glenn:"I'll only tell you information of
need-to-know basis." Jennifer:"We need to know!"
Having inflated half the boat, they head to the beach and inflate some more
air in it. Time is runnig out when disaster strikes: they discover another hole.
David:"We need to go, there's no time left, we need to go. Can we
get in please?"
The five row to the yacht and sing. They can't get wet above the waist, but
their boat is shipping water. Finally they do arrive without getting wet.
£5,000 won, which makes a total of £70,000.
Interviews
Zi:"I hated it. I was ready to use physical violence to get that
phone to get off the island."
Jennifer:"None of us would even have contemplated making that
phone call."
Zi:"I would've evn swum to that boat."
Sara:"Zi was very upset. He sat on a rock and didn't say
anything all night and if he did, it was just obscenities."
David:"Zi on reflection has enjoyed himself, I think."
Sara:"The lads were setting up the camp and Jo and I were
reading about how to give birth in emergency situation in her survival guide,
which really wasn't very helpful."
Jo-anna:"We knew it was just for a few hours and if we
huddled up we would keep it warm."
Jennifer:"We got up at 5 'cause it was cold and already
light. We were searching for the boat or whatever would take us off the island
and I thought 'We're gonna get soaked anyway. We're not gonna get the £5,000 so
what the hell?' "
Sara:"Zi was fantastic for someone who was quiet all night. I
think he just wanted to get off the island, he was running around like a mad
man." Flashback Zi
is carrying around the dinghy and falls over.
Zi:"All 5 of us made it and it was
slowly sinking... no not slowly, it was sinking pretty fast."
Sara:"We were fully prepared for swimming in that
water."
Oliver:"It wasn't much fun on the boat."
Suspicion
Zi:"I think Olli. Yesterday, when Olli packed up about sea
scouts, Olli said right away 'Yeah I'll do it'. I dunno if he is, he just seems
strange."
Oliver:"My main suspect is split between Zi and Jo."
John:"I only have the 1 person I was with for the last 24
hours. So it was the opportunity to observe Oli."
Jo-anna:"I've got 3 suspects. David and Oliver are in second
place and John is on top for being the Mole."
Jennifer:"It was very suspicious that Zi miraculously had a
change of shoes and everything."
Sara:"I'm not saying Zi is my prime suspect. I think even if
he is the Mole, he was so annoyed. He told me last night he never camped
before."
David:"Zi, I'm afraid. The guy's from Afghanistan. If he
can't survive on an island then... he's putting on a play, I think."
Suspicious
Jo-anna didn't really work hard at the fishing.
Zi didn't really like dehooking the fish.
John kept tearing down everything they just built and Oliver just
let him.
Zi desperately wanted to get off the island.
Jennifer and Jo-anna wanted to skip the challenge of getting to
the yacht.
Jo-anna ignored the repair kit instructions.
