Belgian Mole 3
Episode 8

They played the final roudn with four people. In a while we'll know who's the winner, who's the loser and who is The Mole. But first they got some more chance to win some money. Or to lose some...

Day 18 - Terni, Umbria
The four unanimously decide to play the finale round together. Only one of them will win the game and get the entire group's pot, which contains 24,100 € at the moment. And today is their last chance to add some more money to the pot.

The contestants are sitting at a table, with small walls between them,so they can't see each other. They can win 6,000 € in this challenge. To win it, they have to gain some information. The information is on the back of the 24 cards which are lying on the table. Every card has a quote on it. Qoutes about what they said about each other in the interviews. Their self-knowledge and knowledge of each other will help them to decide which qoute is about which person.

We suddenly see some flashbacks of some qoutes in the interviews:
Marc:"The most talks I've had were with either Sandra or Inge."
Inge:"During the entire journey I've had most fun with Marc."
Sandra:"Marc can't act, he's completely himself."
Inge:"For Stijn the money is completely unimportant."
Marc:"Inge is a lady who really knows what she wants."
Sandra:"A lot of interests... I think he has an exciting life."
Stijn:"Luxury... Inge likes luxury a lot. She said so herself."
Inge:"What else could I tell about Sandra..."
Marc:"Lively!"
Sandra:"If he's my type?? No, not really... you nuthead! No, not really" (laughs)

One by one they have to select a qoute of which they think it's about themselves. If it's correct, the card is turned and they'll get the information. If it's wrong, the card will still be turned, but the person is out of play. They have to try to flip as many cards as possible. Game's over until all cards are turned, or till there's no contestant left to play.
Stijn
can start. He goes for "If the world would come to an end, he/she would be the last one to notice." It's correct, it's about him. The host asks if he knows who's said it.
Inge (laughs):"The world comes to an end and Stijn is the one who doesn't notice it."
Host:"That's correct, it was said by Inge." He turns over the card and it says 'The Mole gave points in Mel'.
Sandra's turn. She chooses "He/She always keeps her head cool in the group." That's correct! It was said by Stijn.
Stijn:"Sandra? Keeps her head cool. The best one out of the group in doing that."
The new information they get is 'The ferry to Sardinia left from Civitavecchia'.
Marc goes for "He/She tries to keep the atmosphere in the group the most." which is correct.
Inge:"Marc tries to keep the atmosphere in the group the most, even when we're all very tired."
The information: 'The driving school car drove in Viterbo'.
Inge's turn. "He/She likes luxury a lot." The host says it's correct and asks her who she think said it. Inge:"I don't know, I guess everyone." It was Stijn in this case. The information on the card is 'Shadia got eliminated in Ferentillo'.
Stijn's turn again... we see a nice montage of Stijn reading the card, mixed by a flashback from Inge who said it in an interview:
Inge:"Stijn..."
Stijn:"...is still quite looking for..."
Inge:"... his own image..."
Stijn:"My knowledge of people is zero, but..."
Inge:"Yeah he's an absolutely great guy."
So it's correct and the information they get is 'The hanging bridge was situated in Cortina d'Ampezzo'.
Sandra's turn. She chooses "He/She always remains herself." Host:"And who do you think has said that?" Sandra:"Who? ... Stijn?"
Sandra:"Sandra? Hmm what do I have to say about myself? I always remain myself, I guess."
Sandra:"Oh yeah that's right!" They all laugh about it, but she chose the correct card, so it's right and the card is turned: 'The first ferry arrived at Cagliari'.
Marc goes for "If I would have problems and I neede a shoulder to cry on, I'd go to him/her." and he thinks Stijn has said it. Host:"I'm sorry. It's a qoute you've said yourself..."
Marc:"If I needed a shoulder to cry on, I think I'd go to Inge."
So Marc is out of play, but the card does get turned: 'Christophe got eliminated in Ferrara'.
Inge selects "He/She could have been my type." Host:"And who do you think, or hope, that qoute came from?" Inge guesses it came from Marc. Host:"I'm sorry, Inge. It was indeed a qoute of Marc..."
Marc:"... that Sandra could have been my type."
Host:"... but was about Sandra."
They all laugh and Sandra shrugs her shoulders to the camera. Inge is out of play, but the card gets turned: 'The stunt flying happened above Foligno'.
So only Stijn and Sandra are left.
Stijn goes for "If there would be a nuclear disaster, I'd like to have him/her by my side the most." Stijn:"It's a guess." The host ask who he thinks said that and Stijn thinks it was Sandra. The host tells him it's wrong. It's something Stijn said himself. "Do you know about who you said that?" Stijn:"Yeah... about Sandra." Host:"No... it was about Marc!"
Stijn:"I would love to have Marc by my side if the bomb had fallen."
Everyone laughs again. Stijn:"Oops, sorry Marc!" Marc:"I'm not really interested, Stijn!"
The information on the card: 'The questions route ended at Lago Di Vico'.
Only Sandra remains and she chooses "He/She will always make his/her life interesting." Host:"I hope so for you that you will make your life interesting, but the qoute wasn't about you. It even was a qoute you've said yourself. About Stijn."
Sandra:"He'll make it interesting for himself, I really think so."

Game over. The walls between the contestants are removed and the table cloth is removed too. Underneath it is a big map of Italy. They get 10 descriptions of two places they have to connect with a line. They are all places they've visited on the journey. The contestants have to remember the places they've been to and which they didn't get on one of the cards of the game they just played. Two villages or cities will have a lot of lines going through it if they have connected all 10 descriptions. In each of those two villages or cities there's 3,000 € hidden.
They all think back about the challenges and places. We see some flashbacks of roadsigns with names of the village written on it. They find out the right place of the bungee jumping. They also need the place where Nicole got eliminated. Sandra said it was in a prison. Marc says it was in Terni. We see a flashback of Nicole getting eliminated, followed by a shot from the prison, panned out to a roadsign saying 'SPOLETO'. Nicole got eliminated in Spoleto, not in Terni.
Despite of some mistakes, they find several places where several lines cross each other: Orvieto, Orte and some more... but since those two are closer to the place they are at now, they decide to go to those two villages. Stijn and Inge go to Orte and Sandra and Marc go to Orvieto.
In the car, Stijn tells Inge he thinks the prison Nicole got eliminated in was in Spoleto. Inge:"Yeah I think there are more mistakes in it. With that helicopter, I don't know whether it was a long flight?" Stijn:"It was about 10 minutes. We flew from Terni to Spoleto." Inge:"Then the place we found is impossible, you can't have been circling aroudn for ten minutes." Stijn:"But I looked again to be sure and another option to go to is Amélia. Let's just go to Orte, if we see it's wrong, we go to Amélia."
The contestants get an extra clue: The challenge begins in or somewhere near a church. They also get two names: Chiesa di St Giovanni and Chiesa di St Francesco.
In the car:
Marc:"I think Orte and Orvieto are correct... although the lines in Orte weren't totally correct."
Sandra:"No, they went past it a lot."

In the other car:
Inge
:"The lines didn't always go through it, they went past it left and right a lot."

In the car:
Marc:"When we said the prison was in Terni, the host looked at us in a way of 'How on earth can you have that wrong?!' "

Stijn and Inge arrive in Orte and go to the church. They don't find anything and think they're wrong. They get out the church. Stijn thinks they have to go to Amélia. They decide to wander around a little more though..

Marc and Sandra have arrive in Orvieto. They find a ruler and a disk compass (to draw circles with) and an envelope telling them what to do: somewhere in Orvieto, there's a suitcase containing 3,000 €. They get a lot of pictures and a city map. On the pictures they see places in and near Orvieto and the amount of time they need to get from that place to the suitcase. One minute equals one centimeter on the city map. If they find the place on the picture, they can draw a circle on the city map. For example, if they find a bank that's on the picture and it says that it takes them 5 minutes to get from there to the suitcase, they draw a circle with a 5 centimeter radius around the place they are. If they find several places, and thus draw several circles, they will see that the circles all touch each other on the same spot. That's the place where the suitcase is located at.
However, there's another difficulty: as soon as Marc and Sandra start, an unknown person will also start walking from a place outside town and will go to the suitcase and take it. The person will walk past the places they have to find and it will take him 20 minutes to reach the suitcase. If he finds the suitcase before Marc and Sandra do, he will take the suitcase and the 3,000 € along with him...
Marc and Sandra are studying the pictures first, because when they start, the unkown person will wtart walking too. They see, among others, a picture of a statue, with 5 minutes walking distance written on it. So in order to find the suitcase, they first have to find the statue and draw a radius of 5 centimeter on the map.
They also see a picture with a church on it. It has 10 hours and 17 minutes walking distance on it and they decide to not pay too much attention to it, because it's too far away.

The church is in fact the church Stijn and Inge need to find. They are still in Orte and a policeman told them there's a San Francesco church in town and takes them to it. The host is awaiting them. He congratulates them on finding the church, but says it's not over yet. They have to select one of them who is the most spiritual and that person can go inside the church. Inge asks if Stijn wants to go. He does and she lets him because he gave up the 2,500 € for all of them to get into the final round. So Stijn enters the church together with the host. The church is full of people and as soon as they enter it, music starts playing and everyone rises and applauds Stijn. Some people come towards him and hang a medal around his neck and offer him wine and cheese. He and the host walk to the aisle, where the priest is awaiting him. He welcomes Stijn in their parish as the people keep on applauding.
The priest:"I know it was difficult to get here, but even more noble your gesture: making a donation for our parish." Everyone applauds again and Stijn starts laughing. Inge hears all the cheering and applauding and is wondering what is going on.
The host congratulates Stijn and has the cheque of 3,000 € in his hand. However 3,000 € is also the amount of money the people of the parish need to restore the roof of their church. Stijn:"It's true? They can really use it to restore the church's roof?" Yes it is true.
The host suggests to make it a bit more fair and to let the people of the parish feel they earnt the money by playing a few games. The one who wins the most games out of 4, wins the money and can still decide what to do with it.
The first game Stijn has to play (in the church) is 'Connect Four'. His opponent: a little, 5 year old girl...
The girl puts her yellow disk in the grid. Stijn puts his red disk all the way on the other side. The girl puts her second yellow disk on  top of her first one and Stijn puts his red one next to his other one. The girl's turn again and she puts the third disk on top of the other two... she's got three in a row and has almost won. The people in the church start getting excited and start applauding. Then Stijn puts a red disk on top of the three yellow disk of the girl. The girl, apparently not having any clue of the game's rules, just carries on putting her disk in the same row. No need to say, Stijn wins the game with the fifth disk he plays. The girl has no idea and keeps on playing.
Stijn - parish: 1 - 0

Sandra and Marc have started their search to find the places to find out the location of the suitcase. But the unkown person has also started walking. They find board with pamflets and pieces of paper that looks like the one on one of the pictures. Sandra looks at the picture, but it's a different one. Sandra suggests to go ask someone in a bar if he's seen something on the pictures.
A whila later they walk through an alley. There's a flag hanging above them. The flag is on one of the pictures, but they don't notice it and keep on running. The flag was at 3 minutes and 3 seconds walking distance from the suitcase.
The unkown person, meanwhile, has reached the correct board of pamflets and pieces of paper and keeps on walking. They have 13 minutes and 20 seconds left when they find a kind of paper shop, which is one minute walking distance from the suitcase. Marc draws a circle on the map and know they're close to the suitcase.

The second game for Stijn. They are going to do armwrestling and his opponent is a man who's about 70 years old... if not older.
The people of the parish cheer the man on, but he's already defeated after 6 seconds. Stijn wins. He needs to win only one more game to get the money. Host:"But remember... the roof really needs to be restored."

Sandra and Marc are trying to locate some more places on the map. As they're looking on the map, some old lady stands next to them and starts looking too... after a while she just shrugs and walks away...
They have 7 minutes and 14 seconds left and run back. they suddenly see the flag they ran past the previous time. They want to draw another circle, but can't find the ruler anymore... Sandra runs back to go find it. As she's gone, we see the unkown parson's camera walking past Marc!
Marc enters a store and asks for a ruler. Sandra meanwile gets back with th ruler on the same time and they draw another circle. The unknown person walks past them again and goes around the corner.
Marc draws another circle. They now have two circles, which touch each other on two places. The suitcase is at one of those places and they need one more circle to find out for sure.

Inge is still waiting outside the church as Stijn has started playing a game of checkers against a lady. He wins again with ease. The host hands him the money. Stijn can now decide what to do with it...
Stijn gives the money to the priest and everyone cheers and applauds!
As he leaves the church wit ha bag full of presents and a big medal aroudn his neck, he tells Inge:"I've got something to tell you..." Inge:"Apparently!"
Stijn seems to be emotional and tells Inge what he has done.
The host tells  him that because of the gesture Stijn made, the amount of money Sandra and Marc can now win, is tripled! But they don't know that of course. They are playing for 9,000 €!

Sandra and Marc have 3 and a half minutes left. They are running around town.
One and a half minute left... the unknown person passes the statue. Marc and Sandra also find the statue, which is 5 minutes walking distance away from the suitcase, however, if they run, they can still get there on time. They draw another circle... Marc is shaking because he's nervous. With the third circle they find the place the suitcase is located at and start running towards it!
The unknown person has the suitcase in sight and walks towards it. Just when he's only 10 meters away from the suitcase, Marc and Sandra appear and take the suitcase. The unknown person keeps on walking, past the two contestants and disappears forever...
Marc and Sandra hug each other because they won!
The ywait at the steps of the church. Inge and Stijn arrive and Stijn tells them they didn't win any money, because he gave it away. He tells them all about the parish and shows them the big medal he received. Then he also tells the other two that, because he did that, the money Sandra and Marc would win would be tripled. Sandra hugs him and tells him they won!
They win 9,000 € and the total amount in the group pot is 33,100 €. Only one person will win that amount!

Last supper
The host interviews them during their last supper.
Host:"You've been together for three weeks now. Have been playing a game for three weeks. What has been different or more difficult than what you had thought at first?"
Stijn:"I didn't expect it to be so tough. Especially mentally it was very tough."
Inge:"You're constantly observing people, thinking about who's suspicious and who you can or can't trust. Those things are starting to weigh a lot after three weeks."
Marc:"I was surprised of the fact that the game does get in your head. I thought I could let it go when I wanted to, but that doesn't always work."
Host:"Sandra, suppose you're not The Mole. How do you find The Mole did his job?"
Sandra:"Terrific, because I'm still doubting. I never found anythgin special which could make me 100 % of who The Mole is."
Host:"What about you, Stijn?"
Stijn:"I expected that after three weeks of being with each other 24/7, The Mole would make a slip up. I found no solid clue that would make me point to The Mole. Not at all... I'm also still doubting."
Inge:"I'm sure of The Mole sometimes and then next I think I'm absolutely wrong. The Mole did a great job."
Marc:"When I see how little money we won, I think The Mole was the reason to that."
Host:"Suppose you're not The Mole, could you be The Mole?"
Marc:"I might be. It's difficult to stay in your role as Mole. I think so anyway... I don't know if I could cope with that."
Inge:"I think you have to be tough to be The Mole. I think I would like to step away from that role from time to time."
Stijn:"I think I would have been able to. I'm sure of that, because I can put people off track when I want and I put everything in perspective."
Sandra:"I still ponder about whether I could be The Mole or not. If you know on forehand what's going to happen and what you have to do."
Host:"Did any of you ever intentionally mislead anyone during the game?"
Marc:"I don't think I have."
Sandra looks at him, puzzled.
Marc:"Not all things ended well though, but..." (everyone laughs)
Inge:"I think that certain things I've said and done put some people quite off track, yes."
Stijn:"When I noticed that people found certain things about me suspicious, I didn't mind at all. I just thought 'OK go ahead, suspect me.' " The rest agrees. "But I never did it intentionally."
Host:"Marc, if you don't win the money tomorrow, who would you like to have it the most?"
Marc:"All three of them can get it for me. I can't really say one name."
Inge:"I can't say it either. I did promise something to Stijn, which I will definitely do if I win, but all three of them can get it."
Stijn:"Unanimously, everyone deserves it. Absolutely."
Host:"Sandra, I guess you also think all three deserve it as much?"
Sandra: laughs:"No actually I'd like Stijn to win it. If I really have to choose someone, I'd like Stijn to have it."
Host:"Why is that?"
Sandra:"He won't do anything stupid or luxurious with it, but he will do something fun with the money."
Host:"I've got one more question for every one of you. Marc, are you The Mole?"
Marc raises his eyebrows:"I'm not The Mole."
Host:"Inge, are you The Mole?"
Inge shakes her head and looks straight in the eyes of the host:"I'm not The Mole."
Host:"Stijn, are you The Mole?"
Stijn:"No, I'm a rabbit." (everyone laughs)
Host:"Sandra, are you The..."
Sandra:"I'm not The Mole."
Host:"We'll meet each other again tomorrow, in the final round."

Day 19 - Anguillara, Sabazia
Marc
and Sandra serve breakfast at bed for Stijn and Inge, who really appreciate it. Inge:"Now the viewers will think me and Stijn spend the night together."
Before they will play the finale, the contestants can call home to tell them they're in the final round. Inge gets no answer... apart from an answering machine...

Next they row a small boat over a big lake to the place the final questionnaire will be taken... The girls are rowing. They arrive at an ancient castle and enter it. Inside there are a lot of candles and four tables, placed in a square, so they're all sitting away from each other.

Four contestants... one of them will be very happy when he or she wins 33,100 € and one of the others will be very relieved that he or she is finally revealed as The Mole... This is the final and most important questionnaire. The Host wishes them good luck and the contestants take place at the tables and start the questionnaire...

Final suspicions
Marc
:"It's not the same kind of stress you have as right before an elimination, because then you know it's game over, but now you know that tomorrow it's game over for everyone. But now I'm very curious as to who The Mole is. Am I right or have I had a lot of luck during the game?"
Stijn:"A good Mole has to be able to betray people and not feel guilty about it, because that's his task."
Sandra:"You're never absolutely sure. I have never been 100 % sure yet. You can suspect everyone. I'm just going to do the same as I always do and... hope... we'll see..."
Inge:"After seeing and hearing everyone today, I think we're all on to the same Mole, that's the big problem. I think everyone suspects the same Mole."
Stijn seems to have finished already. He has his arms crossed and is looking straight forward...

Marc:"I think, if The Mole is smart, he'll take the ticket..." flashback to episode 3: Stijn wins a free ticket to go through to the fifth episode. "Because everyone can make mistakes or spill the beans or something, so The Mole is completely out of the picture, so I guess it would be clever of The Mole to take that ticket."

flashback of Sandra running in the journals game, doing a bungee jump...
Stijn:"Sandra is the Lara Croft of our group."
Inge:"She's very sympathetic, very athletic. She's very social and very beautiful and..."
Stijn:"She's afraid of nothing, she runs, she jumps, she's very sportive and at the second question she suddenly said..."
flashback Sandra:"I'll stay behind!" (Sandra volunteers to stay behind when in episode 3 during the questions route, they had the wrong answer and had to leave someone behind...)
Inge:"And then I think maybe those are good qualities for The Mole."
flashback Sandra:"Have fun guys!" (waving at Stijn and Bruno, who go back (still in the same challenge))
Stijn:"I found that very strange..."

Question 18: When did The Mole enter an answer in the mine challenge?
Inge:"Marc lost 3,000 €."
flashback to episode 4: Marc is walking through the mine and climbs the stairs.
Sandra:"Marc was acting weird. He was so slow all the time..."
Inge:"He was walking slowly, was waiting a while until he went down the shaft, wasn't rushing at all. It was very weird"
flashback Inge:"Did you run?" Marc:"Yeah." Inge:"Aren't you out of breath then?"

Marc:"At the land part. She said she could ride a horse."
flashback to episode 5: Inge:"I can ride a horse, I did that for 5 years." Later on in the challenge, the horse starts running. Inge:"I can't ride a horse, help me, HELP ME!!!"
Marc:"If a horse starts running a bit quickier, you're supposed to get it under control instead of starting to panick."

Sandra:"Stijn and Corry were really against it that we would open our tubes." flashback to episode 3: Host:"Stijn Van Daele, did you look in the tube?" " 'No don't do it, don't do it!' he told everyone." flashback Stijn:"I wanted to look in it, so I opened the tube, but then I changed my mind because I thought it would have serious consequences and I closed it again." "And then suddenly it turned out he did open it, that was also..."

Stijn:"Marc acts a bit bizar. He says he never did archery before and then it turns out he did one time in Tunesia and that's always the case with Marc." flashback to episode 6: Marc shoots an arrow and hits bullseye. Next a shot of Marc holding the ham above the wire. "He could have hold that ham a bit longer. I think he saw I was starting to find the answer to the riddle."

Question: Who got interviewed by The Mole on the ferry?
flashback
to episode 3:
Inge:"The capital city of Australia?? Isn't that Quebec?"
flashback to episode 6: Inge:"I might be stupid, but I'm not that stupid, Marc! I wanted to mislead people."

Everyone has finished the questionnaire... all candles are blown out and the inner courtyard of the castle they're sitting in is completely dark. The host appears with a torch:"The game has been played. Time to find out who's the winner." He sets fire to a trail of gunpowder. The fire follows the trail and ends in front of the table of the winner.
Find out who's the winner, which two people lost and most of all: who is The Mole?

The show ends with a compilation of scenes from all past episodes in this series while Elvis Presley's 'Suspicious Minds' is playing.
