Belgian Mole 3
Episode 9

The day episode 8 got aired on tv - Brussels, Belgium
All eliminated players arrive. Corry is first, followed by Walter and Nicole, Bruno, Shadia, Christophe (who apologizes for not wearing a costume and not being so chiquely dressed as the others. As he says hi to Shadia he looks at her and ask:"Are you getting married or something?!")
Then the four finalists arrive.

They all watch episode 8 live on tv, laughing with Stijn as he gets cheered on by the people in the church. They applaud and compliment him for giving the money away for restoration of the church roof.
All are excited when the host reveals the winner. Corry is amazed. She thought Stijn was The Mole. They congratulate Stijn and watch who The Mole is. Everyone is surprised. Shadia just laughs... at the day she got eliminated she changed her mind and stopped voting for Marc as The Mole....

Watch a cover of Humo, a popular Belgian magazine with Marc The Mole here.

Some more pictures from Humo:

So Marc is The Mole, but there are still some questions remaining. What did he sabotage, how did he do it? Marc had to decide for himself how to sabotage, but got briefed by the producers every night to go through all possible sabotage actions he could do.

Sabotages
We see flashbacks and unseen footage to show how Marc sabotaged some challenges...
Flashback to the beginning of episode 1: Two months earlier, somewhere in Flanders, Belgium
A video is playing, showing where the contestants live and what they do. Someone is watching the videos as the host enters and tells the person that they will leave soon and that he or she will play The Mole. He hands the person an envelope with all information. The host informs the person that there is 100,000 euro to win in this game and that he/she has to make sure that they win as less as possible. Host:"If I leave, we won't have any further contact anymore. We will meet again in an ancient South-European city. The arrival of the first three contestant is immediately the beginning of the first challenge. You decide who will be the first three contestants. I'd like to hear three names from you."
Next we see unaired footage where the host is interviewing Marc. Host:"The first challenge is in Venice. Three contestants have to find the seven others, who are walking aroudn through Venice with a GPS transmitter. You get a GPS transmitter too and it would be great if you didn't get found. You can give one of the Italians your GPS and let him walk aroudn in Venice. And you can select the first three people. I suggest to take three women for it."
Marc:"That soudns like a good idea."
Host:"So that the chance of succeeding diminshes. So who do you choose?"
Marc:"Let's take Nicole... Sandra and the veterinarian...?"
Host:"Inge?"
Marc:"Inge!"
Flashback to episode 1: Inge:"I can't read a map well... I think this is morning something for you." (pointing to Nicole) Nicole:"I can try..."
The orange dot appears and Nicole tells Sandra where to go to. They don't know it, but the orange dot is from Marc's GPS. We see Marc walking around in Venice. He walks up to an Italian guy and hands over the GPS and agrees to meet again within 15 minutes. Marc walks away and makes sure he's not anywhere on the map the three women have so he can't be foudn accidentally. Sandra is trying to find him and goes to the direction Nicole tells her to. She's standing on a bridge and listen to Nicole. Nicole:"Oh he's coming straight towards you! He's on the bridge there, quick quick!!!" Sandra looks at her map, puzzled and wants to tell something to Nicole. We see the Italian man who got the GPS from Marc walk past Sandra! Nicole:"He's going north now! Watch carefully, there's got to be somebody there!" So Sandra runs back north, past the Italian guy again.
Marc is meanwile walking around in Venice:"It's beautiful here! Too bad it's not on the map!"
Nicole tells Sandra she's really close. She is... the Italian man walks past her again less than a meter from each other, but of course she's looking for a contestant with backpacks. The Italian man walks over a bride and disappears of the map. Nicole:"Sandra, forget about it, he's gone." The Italian goes to Marc and gives back the GPS. Marc:"Yes! It worked!"

Flashback to episode 1: The host says he's going to talk with The Mole and they can all watch from a distance. He's going to let every contestant come to him one by one and talk a little. When he's talking to The Mole he will be asking him/her to give points to his fellow contestants.
Marc has to go first and we can hear the talk now. Host:"Hey Marc, you can stand here."
Flashback Nicole:"Who can read lips?"
Host:"And? Do you still like it?"
Marc:"A lot! It's fantastic!"
Host:"How many points would you give to Christophe."
Marc:"I'd give Christophe... 0 points!"
Host:"OK and why?"
Marc:"I think he's capable of doing much."
Marc:"I'd give the three points to... (thinks and then raises his voice) Inge!"
Host (whispering):"Don't talk too loud..."
Marc:"Shadia gets 6. Nicole... 8."
(...)
Host:"And for the rest just do what you have to do, you're doing a great job."
Marc returns to the group and says:"I'm not allowed to tell anything!" (laughs) Corry:"Did you give good points?" Marc:"Yep!"

The Mole's Confession Cam - Day 2
Marc
:"It's a very intruiging game where I feel good at my double role. One side there's the enthousiastic contestant in the group and on the other side The Mole, who's sabotaging. And that's what we're going to do again tomorrow."

Flashback to the beginning of episode 2 Day 4 - Terni, Umbria
It's 6:30 AM. Marc is already up and swimming in the pool. The host knocks on the bedroom doors of the others and tells them to get outside within 3 minutes. Everyone is still sleepy, but they go outside.
Everyone gathers outside. The host asks them to show the tubes. Sandra tells the host she lost the tube.
The Mole's Confession Cam
Marc
:"My first real sabotage just happened. I managed to get Sandra's tube. It was exciting."
Flashback  Host:"Look what I've got here. Your tube. I got it from The Mole."
Marc:"I don't know how suspicious I've made myself right now, we'll see about that tomorrow. It was a kind of rush to be working against them like that."

Flashback The host tells them there are two challenges for today.
Secret Briefing of The Mole - The Night Before The Challenge
On this picture you can see the host (right) and two of the better-known crew members of 'De Mol': Bart de Pauw (left) and Tom Lenaerts (middle). In this secret briefing of The Mole, Marc is being briefed by Bart.
Bart:"The contestants have to create a top 3 of the contestants on IQ, EQ , ... and you are the super contestant (laughs) you turned out to be the best on IQ, EQ and so on..."
Marc:".... f*ck."
Flashback For the first challenge the host needs 2 all-rounders.They have to be clever, physically alright, but above all they have to be able to judge people well.
Bart:"They will ask for two all-rounders. Try not to be one of them."
Flashback Marc says that judging people is something for women. Sandra and Walter get chosen. Next we see the other contestants arriving at the factory where the bomb is at.
Bart:"Try to get to the bomb. It would be great if you let the group find out how to get through all obstacles, with the lasers and such, but if they don't find out, you help them."
Flashback Marc:"I think you have to aim the laser on the reflector!"
Bart:"You can't find the answer to the riddle. If need be someone else will find it. We'll ask the birthdays until spring 2003."
Flashback Shadia:"Walter! We need Walter's birthday!" Marc:"Is he 50 or was he born in 1950?"
Bart:"Make sure you don't find the number 352."
Flashback Shadia:"Yes 353! We've got it!!" Stijn enters the numbers and a wire lights up.
Bart:"Anyway, the challenge has to fail."
Flashback The wire is cut. For a few seconds, nothing's happening. Marc, in the other room (looking at the monitor with the other two) asks what's happening. Then BANG! A bomb explodes in their room spraying red paint all over them. They scream and are covered with paint. Challenge failed...

Day 7 - Viterbo
Another secret briefing, this time with the host:
Host:"Marc, in a while we'll do the questions route. You know, different questions, Kennedy, how many suspected contestants etcetera... You receive a little receiver which you have to plug in your ear when no one's watching."
Marc takes the little receiver and puts it in his ear to ask if it's not too visible. The host says it isn't.
Host:"I will instruct you where to go to and you have to try to convince the others to also go into that direction."
Flashback They go to their next challenge: they have to follow a route, which will lead them past 5 junctions. At each junction, a question will be asked to them. They can choose between two options. The correct answer leads them to the correct road. The wrong answer brings them to a point where they have to leave someone behind.
Cut to Marc, Shadia and Corry. They're tired of pushing Corry up hill. Marc tells Shadia to go ahead already and he will follow behind with Corry, who wants to try and walk up hill with her crutches for a while. Marc is behind and pushes the wheelchair. No one is noticing him and he puts the receiver in his ear... The camera zooms in on it and it is quite visible when you know it.
Flashback Stijn, Sandra and Bruno make an arrow out of the encyclopedia books. A while later, Shadia, Corry and Marc arrive there too.
The host talks to Marc throught the receiver and tells him to just follow the arrow.
Flashback Shadia:"The others probably made that arrow." Marc:"Yeah, I think so too, let's go."
They arrive at the wine question:
"Yesterday night, you drank wine in the restaurant and the cell. Next to this suitcase, you see two glasses of wine. The wine that you drank yesterday is one of them and points to the correct direction."
Host (to Marc):"Marc, you still have 45 minutes left. Take the wrong wine. I repeat: take the wrong wine!"
Flashback Marc:"I'm not 100 % sure either, but I think it's the left one." They go to the left, Bruno opens the suitcase: WRONG!
Flashback
Inge:"The capital city of Australia?? Isn't that Quebec?"
Marc, Stijn and Bruno are running to the last question. Shadia is several meters behind.
Host (to Marc):"Marc, Inge answered Quebec to the question. Just take the logical answer. Go for Sydney."
Flashback  The guys run into the small road for Sydney. The suitcase is opened: WRONG! There's a short discussion about who stays behind. Bruno wants to continue, so they choose Marc.
The two guys leave and Marc tells the cameraman:"Bruno insisted on continuing. Too bad of course, but oh well."

The Mole's Confession Cam
Marc:"I hope they keep on putting it in perspective, that they realize it's just a game. I took the role to play a Mole, which means I have to make people suspicious, to slow people down, to sabotage... I will be happy when it's all over so I can look people straight in the eyes again and tell them I'm The Mole."

Even more super contestants
In episode 2, Sandra and Walter had to find the super contestant: the contestant who scored best on physics, on EQ and IQ. All contestants had to undergo some tests before the game started. Marc too had to do those test, without knowing any answers. He really turned out to be the super contestant. That was very apparent in the IQ test. We see some more funny footage from the IQ test:
Woman (who asks the IQ test questions):"8 machines can do a certain amount of work in 6 days. How many machines do you need to do the same amount of work in half a day?"
Stijn:"Ugh that's an annoying question."

Christophe:"8 machines in 5 days???"
Woman:"In 6 days..."
Christophe:"And now you need to know how many in half a day???"

Bruno:"This is why I never took maths."

Walter is counting and comes up with 24.

Christophe:"So 8 machines in... could you repeat that again? Four days?"

Inge (laughs):"I have to see that written out on a piece of paper, I can't do it just like that."

Shadia (laughs):"I don't know."

Christophe:"So 8 machines do the same amount of work on 6 days... ?"

Nicole:"How annoying, can't I see it on a piece of paper, that's easier!"

Christophe:"How many machines for half a day...? You know what, just strike that question out."

Marc (thinks a short while):"96."

Woman:"Name all senses we have."
Corry:"All of OUR senses?"

Nicole:"Five... euhmmm..."

Shadia:"Taste..."

Christophe:"Hear, see,..."

Sandra:"Hearing, sight,... scent,..."

Christophe:"And what's the fifth one? Come on, please help me..."

Marc:"Sense of touch."

Woman:"Name the three types of blood vessels in the human body."
Inge:"What do you mean? Veins? Aorta?"

Christophe:"I wouldn't have a clue."

Sandra:"Red blood vessels... white blood vessels..."

Christophe:"The big ones, the small ones and the medium ones."

Bruno:"White... red and... ?"

Nicole:"Arteries?"

Inge names several Latin names:"Is it that what you mean?"

Christophe:"The red... the blue..."

Marc:"Arteries, veins and capillaries."

Woman:"Who was Cleopatra?"
Corry:"The godess of love???"

Nicole:"Oh yes, Cleopatra.... Cleopatra... who was she again..."

Inge:"Cleopatra... wasn't she Greek?"

Sandra:"The wife of...."

Stijn:"An Egyptian Queen with a beautiful and famous nose."

Marc:"The emperor of Egypt. Mistress of Julius Caesar and Marcus Anthonius."

Next a lot of short clips from all contestants saying they don't know the answer.

Marc played the game in a strategically and psychologically tactical way. Stijn, Inge and Shadia were the only ones who suspected him. How did they find out. And how did he mislead them and the rest of the group?
Mole Hunters
Marc
:"As Mole this was an easy group. From the beginning they chose for the game."
Inge:"I think in this game, money wasn't the motive at all."
Marc:"It was quite easy to buy off exemptions and stuff like that."
Flashback  to episode 2: Stijn draws Walter's name. Walter gets the exemption, but it is bought off by the others.
Inge:"I didn't interest us at all whether we won or lost money with that."
Flashback  to episode 3: The people that didn't open their tubes, toast on 2,000 € personal money they each are going to take.
Marc:"I had to make sure I didn't get into the helicopter so I could buy the exemption off afterwards. After 5 minutes I already arrived at the helicopter."
Unseen footage of episode 2: Marc is close to the helicopter already and a crewmember tells him to tell the others he's been hit, but that it's not visible.
Marc:"I didn't see anyone, so I opened my paintballgun and took the paint pellets out and rubbed one on my arm. So I was hit."
Flashback Four of those five (Corry isn't with them) are in the car, driving to the next destination and discussing the challenge. Inge says that she'd rather wanted that the challenge had failed, so no one had an exemption. "I'm not here for the money. You have more chance to stay in the game if the challenge fails." Marc agrees.
Marc:"It was a unique chance, which I immediately took without being to obvious. I remember I even said..."
Flashback Marc:"I'm doubting..." Inge:"I'm not. As far as I'm concerned, the exemption can be bought off."
Inge:"It's true what Marc said back then: we were all unsure about who The Mole was so we all wanted to make our chances to stay in the game bigger. And that's why we took out the exemption. I made myself less sympathetic with the viewers at home and I was surprised when I saw myself doing that on tv."
Marc:"At one point I really got afraid of myself. I thought 'Wow that's quite scary.' "

Flashback to episode 3: one of the contestants cars gets hit by another car.
Marc:"The famous accident scene..."
Unseen footage: The camera crew's car lets the white car (the car that will hit the contestants car) pass by, so it can drive to the contestants car. We hear someone from the first car (also crew car) saying "I'm going to stop the cars at pole number 36!" there are numbered poles alongside the road.
Marc:"I knew there would be a police control and I remembered when we got hit I thought 'Oh no, this can't be true, we've had an accident. And then next the polica controle'. I didn't think they would go so far as to create a car accident. I'm a bit proud of myself that I could hide that from the others."

Flashback to episode 2: The wire is cut. For a few seconds, nothing's happening. Marc, in the other room (looking at the monitor with the other two) asks what's happening. Then BANG! A bomb explodes in their room spraying red paint all over them. They scream and are covered with paint.
Marc:"I think Shadia started to suspect me after the bomb challenge."
Shadia:"When we were in the factory together, I felt like Marc wasn't really concentrated. He wasn't going for it for 100 %. He went for it for 95 %."
Marc:"At one point it was complete chaos. Total chaos. Everyone was yelling birth dates through each other."
Flashback Shadia is yelling for Marc, Inge is trying to solve the riddle to make the keypad and everyone is yelling birth dates. Marc:"Guys, this doesn't work! One by one!"
Marc:"Under normal circumstances I would say 'People, what's going on?' 'What do we need?' 'Oh everyone's birth date!' And now I just let myself get briefed by them, which Shadia noticed immediately."

Flashback to episode 4: One of the suitcases explodes at the island Stijn is on. Inge (to Marc):"Did you run? Aren't you out of breath?" Marc:"Yeah I just ran up this stairs."
Inge:"The thing that really made me sure that he was The Mole was the mine challenge."
Marc:"They told me 'When you're in the mine, you're alone.' "
Secret briefing of The Mole: Bart:"If you're in the mine, just stop and talk to the camera for a while. The cameraman knows about. But make sure it is IN the mine, not outside!!"
Marc:"I took advantage of it to sabotage thoroughly. I was just slowly walking and..."
Unseen footage: Marc arrives at the mine shaft, just slowly walking and says hi to the guy that's supposed to gear him up to go down the shaft. He waves at the camera and says he's got plenty of time.
Marc:"If I arrived at the mineshaft I had to be slow and dawdle a lot. Say I had all time in the world...."
Unseen footage: Marc looks down in the shaft, still has no hurry. "Wow, what a lot of smoke." he says to the other guy.
Marc:"However, I didn't know that everyone was watching me!"
Shadia:"We were all waiting in the cave. We were supposed to be standing behind a wall, but for some kind of reason we did stand there and we could see Marc arriving and he was taking all time and was very slow."
Marc:"And suddenly I see several silhouettes in the distance! I thought 'Oh no, they're all standing there!' "
Unseen footage: The cameraman sees the other contestants too and whispers "The contestants are watching!! Get out of here!!"
Shadia:" 'Shit, other people are witnessing this!!' (laughs) Because not many people were suspecting Marc at that time., so it was a pity that someoen else saw it. It was good for me that I saw it, because it acknowledged my suspicions. But it wasn't good that the others saw it too, because could start to suspect him too..."
Inge:"I even told Marc then 'How could you!' "
Marc:"From then on two people were suspecting me: Shadia and Inge."
Flashback in the cave when Marc has arrived with the others. Sandra:"You probably still had a lot of time left or something?" Inge (looking very suspiciously at Marc):"How many time did you have left?"
Marc:"I didn't sleep well after that. They were very angry."

Flashback to episode 5: the people who bring the fire by water jump i n the water.
Marc:"With the fire challenge I wanted to make myself less suspicious, but still... it was a challenge that could easily be sabotaged."
Shadia:"I think he probably had 2 strategies. He would either lose a lot of time or make sure that the fire would go out."
Flashback Shadia and Marc are on the jet ski. Shadia is "driving" and Marc is on the back, protecting the fire.
Marc:"I knew Shadia was suspecting me, so if I had told her to go a bit faster I knew she would never do that. So were going really slowly over the water."
Flashback Marc:"Uh-oh!!! A bit slower. If you go too fast, the fire will blow out."
Marc:"So I was sure we would be too late."
Flashback Marc and Sandra arrive at the beach! They hug each other. They are more than 5 minutes late. They don't believe it at first. Marc looks at his watch and notices it's not working anymore. Linda:"Too bad." Marc:"Well it means it's broken." Linda:"Oh well- HEY! That's that expensive watch!!"
Marc:"My watch really broke! Water got to it and apparently it wasn't waterproof. So it wasn't an act of sabotage. It really was broken!"

Marc:"During the duels game, Shadia played the game really great."
Flashback Shadia has to bet money on the outcome of her duel with Marc. Shadia:"I'm going to play safe and bet nothing!" Marc hears it through headphones.
Marc:"I was her prime suspect and she made sure I had as little influence as possible in the game."
Shadia:"If he was The Mole, he would have heard what I had said, so I couldn't take that risk. That's why I didn't bet any money."
Marc:"So the only thing she could lose out on were the three free answers. Well done Shadia!"
Shadia:"And for the rest I just went with my gut feeling. Because The Mole was out of play and I was playing with real contestants and from then on I did bet money."

Flashback to episode 3: The questions route challenge: Marc is pushing Corry up hill in her wheelchair.
Stijn:"I noticed Marc in the questions route in episode 3. He was dragging Corry along with him all the time. I thought 'He's loosing time.' but he always did little things. Before I started the game, I had told myself not to start suspecting people because of sabotages, because there would be several people who deliberately tried to be suspicious, so I thought it was more important to look at the details of people. The way they speak, the way they act
Flashback to episode 8. Host:"Marc, are you The Mole?" Marc raises his eyebrows:"I'm not The Mole."
Marc:"I got briefed regularly about possible sabotages I could do. And then I got anonymous letters with descriptions of the challenges and things I could do."
Briefing of The Mole: The host gives a piece of paper to Marc and says:"Make sure you don't lose it, that it doesn't fall out your pocket or anything. If needed you just eat it or something."
Marc:"And in one of the hotels, I threw one of those notes in the bin. I thought I was the last person who had left the hotel, but apparently Stijn returned."
Stijn:"As always, I went back to the room to see if Marc or me didn't forget anything. I entered the room and saw a note. It didn't have a name on it and it had vague instructions on it. I thought for a short while it could have been a set-up."
We see the note shortly:
TWIN PEAKS (note from me: this is the fire challenge)
Try your best to subtly not choose for the best strategies.
If you see me wearing a hat, it means the other team is doing even worse than you.
Try to sabotage using time.

DUELS
For the duels tomorrow:
- you estimate time and lose the duel. II will remove my hat when the 100 seconds are over.
- take your walkman along with you to poossibly be briefed...
Marc:"It shows he knew he was playing a game, that he can't trust anyone and always had to look for clues. So he did a brilliant job if I can say so. He surprised me, because I really was the last one who left the hotel."

Flashback to episode 6: They are discussing which screw to take. Stijn is 50 % sure, Marc 80 %.
Shadia:"Marc probably knew which screw was correct. And then we asked Stijn and Marc, who had seen the screw, which one it was."
Marc:"And I thought 'This is the moment to use Shadia and Inge's mistrust in me by choosing the correct screw.' It was quite easy."
Inge:"But the challenge also failed a bit because of me."
Flashback  Inge:"I choose for Stijn."
Inge:"Because I was so sure that Marc was The Mole and probably would choose the wrong screw."
Flashback  They have chosen the wrong screw. Marc's screw was the correct one.
Shadia:"During those days I was really doubting, because Stijn failed everything. He was very careless and Marc suddenly came up with correct answers and goes for it suddenly and it was suddenly reversed."
Flashback  The journal challenge. They decide who will hunt Sandra down and could possibly win an exemption. Stijn:"I suggest we draw lots. I don't want to be in it."
Stijn:"The exemption on the tower... really notorious. I had already had a double exemption, I didn't want to leave the group and I wanted to give the others a chance to win an exemption."
Shadia:"I find it very weird that someone doesn't go for an exemption at that stage. He already went for a double exemption, for which he had to leave the group and then close to the finale, he doesn't go for it. I just couldn't understand that."
Stijn:"You have to take chances. And I got lucky, because people started to suspect me because of that. No normal person would do that, but Stijn of course would!"
Flashback  Shadia gets eliminated.(and we hear a great song: Cerulean by Jon Hopkins)
Shadia:"I was angry at myself... for have changed my mind about who The Mole was... yeah I really was angry at myself."
Marc:"She was the first one who suspected me for the correct reasons, so she saw through the game. And then because of Stijn's suspicious behaviour, she changed her mind. That's pitty actually. Too bad for her. At that moment it hurt a little. She deserved better."

Hidden Clues
Most viewers try to find The Mole by trying to see through the contestants. But there are also people who analyse almost every frame of each episode, in search for clues. (Several websites are shown, with a lot of forums where people post their suspicions.)
In the show there were a number of hidden hints that pointed to Marc Simons being The Mole...

The first hint was in the very first place name of the first episode:
Flashback  Day 1 - San Marco Square, Venice, Italy
During the rest of the show, only the name of the province and city or village are shown, but here you also saw the name of the square. Hidden in San Marco Square is Marc's name...

Marc also took care of providing some clues. We see a shot of him during the stunt plane challenge. He's wearing a cap with Mc G written on it. If you take each first letter of all caps he wore, you get:
Mc G
O'Neill
Lyricist Lounge 2

MOL (= Dutch for Mole)

During every elimination, Marc gave a hint. He made sure he was sitting near the person that would get eliminated. The Mole touched every eliminated person when they got their red screen. We see Marc touching Christophe as he's eliminated (but it's off-screen, so we don't see where). He takes Nicole and Bruno's shoulder, gives a pat on the back of Walter and Corry and takes Shadia's knee. It was a way of The Mole to say goodbye to the people who got eliminated because of him.

In episode 5 there was a visual hint in the duels challenge.
Flashback  We see all 8 categories appear and move across the screen: music, Italy, Nobel price, the mole, geography, history, film and Belgium
The category 'the mole' moved along the screen, following Marc's trail. Putchar already noticed this during episode 5 and made a videoclip of it, zooming in on Marc and the words 'de mol' following him. Watch it by clicking here.
Now that you know who The Mole is, it's safe to check out Putchar's site and watch several more clips and screen shots: http://users.pandora.be/putchar/mol_2003.htm

There also were hints that were very well hidden and meant for the real puzzlers. In the 'filling in of the questionnaire' in episode 4, 5 and 6 there was one shot each time that went from a hand on the mouse, over to the computer screen. At the bottom of the computer screen there was a sticker with a code written on it.
WVIS PC followed by a combination of letters or numbers:
Episode 4: WVIS PC C 1
Episode 5: WVIS PC 36
Episode 6: WVIS PC M -37
So that makes C 1 36 M -37. You could make MC 1 36-37 out of this, which is a passage of the bible, namely Marcus verse 36 and 37: 'Simon and his companions went after him and they found him and told him: 'Everyone is looking for you.'
Both the writer of this passage (Marcus) and the name Simon pointed to The Mole: Marc Simons

There was another clue in the letters that disappeared too late in the names of the places. In white letters, the day and place name always appeared and then disappeared again a while later. But one of the letters always stuck to the screen for half a second longer. Putchar made several images of it:
Watch closely at the '10' in 'Day 10, Nebida, Sardinië' in this videoclip.
Watch all other numbers and letters that stick around on this flash page, made by Putchar: http://users.pandora.be/putchar/10L.html
Together it makes LC 5 10. This also pointed to the bible: Lucas, chapter 5, verse 10. This was another cryptical clue towards Marc: 'But Jesus told Simon: 'Don't be afraid. From now on you will catch people.'

The same bible verse was hidden in the calculations Walter, Shadia and Stijn had to make in their cells. The solutions to the three mathematical problems were:
122
135
10
Put these numbers in a row: 12213510
Separate some from each other: 12 21 3 5 10
In the mathematical problems they had to replace a letter by a number according to A=1, B=2, C=3, etcetera. Now you have to do it reverse:
L U C 5 10
LUC 5 10, the same verse.

And you had to do the same thing in the last clue. In the mine challenge, the contestants had to get as near as possible to the number 927, using the number 10, 10, 1, 2, 6, 8.
The "correct" answer that was shown on tv was 926:
10 + 1 = 11
11 x 10 = 110
110 + 6 = 116
116 x 8 = 928
928 - 2 = 926
However, some viewers at home, could make 927 by doing this: (8+1) x (10 x 10 + 6/2) = 927
This was done deliberately, because 926 was a clue. With the numbers 9, 2 and 6 you can make some more sums:
9 + 6 - 2 = 13
9 - 6 - 2 = 1
9 x 2 = 18
9 - 6 = 3
If you change the numbers into letters according to the alphabet, you get The Mole's name:
13 : M
1   : A
18 : R
3   : C

Fake Moles
Only three people suspected Marc. That's because he played it so clever. But he also got helped by the contestants, who made themselves look very suspicious.

Nicole
Shadia:"All the way in the beginning I suspected Nicole. She was The Mole for 100 % to me."
Christophe:"In the beginning of the game, when they had to find me, she was kind of the manager of the challenge, telling everyone what to do. And it went all wrong."
Corry:"I suspected Nicole the first 2 episodes."
Flashback  to episode 1: Nicole wants to throw a compass to Inge, but accidently throws it in the canal
Christophe:"Then later on I saw her throwing that thing in the water."
Nicole:"Throwing the compass was not deliberate at all."
Inge:"I think a lot of people suspected Nicole, because she too played the game and went for it and she did weird things."
Christophe:"She was involved in the sleeping test, she hadn't slept anything at all. We've been talking and interrogating each other about our backgrounds and were writing it in our journals and she didn't write anything down."
Nicole:"It wasmy plan all along to make myself look suspicious, but you just have to play along and they will find suspicious things about you anyway."

Corry
Walter:"I had been guessing on two people: Shadia and Corry. But I tripped over Corry's foot, litteraly and figuratively!"
Flashback  to episode 2: Corry falls over and has sprained her ankle.
Walter:"I found her in the helicopter challenge and saw her lying there. But I better hadn't seen her, because I kept her with me for four days, letting her foot rest in my lap as if I felt sorry for her, but I did it to investigate her foot. I got mislead because of her foot."
Sandra:"I was so unlucky as to suspect Corry. In the first episode I had lost my tube. And I had seen Corry's tube lying on a table, even though she always had it with her, taped aroudn her leg and such..."
Flashback  The host asks them to show the tubes. Corry taped it to her leg and takes it.
Sandra:"So I thought something was up with that, she probably took mine and exchanged it and from then on I started to suspect her all the time, until she got eliminated. I was afraid to change my mind."
Flashback  to episode 1: Corry fires several shots, trying to hit a clay pigeon and keeping the sleepers awake.
Corry:"I didn't really use it on purpose. I even was surprised that people didn't believe it. I couldn't believe Walter thought my injury was fake. He saw me lying there... I still don't understand that."

Stijn
Sandra:"I found Stijn very suspicious. He always asked our opinions first and then agreed with us. I thought that was a perfect Mole strategy, I would do it like that too. Always try to find out what the others think."
Flashback  to episode 3: The questions route. Sandra, Stijn and Bruno got the question about 'The Thinker'. Stijn and Sandra say they don't know. Bruno says 'The Thinker' sits with his head resting on the hand.
Sandra:"He always asked 'What do you guys think?' and then we said the wrong answer of course, because everything went wrong, and then he went 'Yeah I think so too!!' "
Corry:"He's a great guy, but... (laughs) He seems to be so intelligent, but he can't solve any riddle."
Flashback  to episode 1: Stijn has to solve the riddle with the lightbulb and three switches. Host:"Can you say with absolute certainty which switch you had to press?" Stijn:"No, not with absolute certainty."
Flashback  to episode 3: Stijn had opened his tube and had to solve the mathematical problems. Stijn:"111, 108, 26." Also wrong. Also minus 2,000.
Flashback  to episode 6: Stijn has to solve a riddle and Marc has to shoot arrows to win time for him. Stijn:"I don't know. I really don't know."
Stijn:"I got pushed forward to do the riddles. (laughs) I don't know why, but... from the beginning... I'm studying at a university and they thought 'Stijn is an intelligent person.'  "
Flashback  to episode 6: Stijn:"These riddles start driving me crazy!"
Stijn:"Those riddles.... pffff. I don't think I'll ever wind up in a quiz!"
Flashback  to episode 7: They have to negotiate about about the four cards (exemption, 5 correct answers, money and nothing) Inge:"All the others already got their personal money, so I thought maybe now you could take it." Stijn:"Nah, money means nothing to me."
Sandra:"A student, who just gives away his money like that. I found that very weird. It was a sign to me that he could be The Mole."
Flashback  Inge:"So according to you, everyone will choose the exemption?" Stijn:"Absolutely."
Stijn:"I lied deliberately once indeed and that was during the poker game, where I went for the 2,500 €. That's when I lied deliberately."

Sandra
Nicole:"I voted on Sandra twice. I knew almost all answers to the questions concerning my Mole Sandra."
Flashback  Nicole:"Sandra are you still there or did you jump into a canal, over?" Suddenly there's Sandra again:"Yes, I can hear you again! Sorry, Natalie, but I'm almost at the point where we agreed I would stand, over."
Stijn:"I always voted on Sandra until episode 5. Then I noticed Sandra was just Sandra, she didn't play anything."
Christophe:"I thought Sandra acted really weird. Not in ways how she sabotaged or something, but more in the things she said."
Sandra:"Everyone suspected me. I kind of thought already that people who don't know me, find me weird, very aloof. I never want to be in the in-crowd, I always think 'Once people get to know me, that will happen.' and a lot of people say I'm weird, aloof and distant. In the beginning you just have to leave me alone for a while."

Inge
Bruno:"Inge... she also seemed a good Mole to me."
Unseen footage of the helicopter challenge in episode 2: Inge kneels and when she gets up, she's all alone.
Inge:"I kneeled to tie my shoe laces and suddenly everyone was gone and I was the last one left and thus the first one to die, because I was left alone and made I kind of bad start. At the moment the exemption got taken out, it made me look very suspicious, because I was the only one to say out loud that I wanted to buy off the exemption."
Stijn:"She played it very very hard from time to time. If she noticed we couldn't succeed in a challenge, she went extra hard for it to let it fail."
Flashback  Inge:"The capital city of Australia? Isn't that Quebec?"
Inge:"Sydney... Melbourne... I was looking for something like that, but it didn't pop into my head very quickly so I thought 'Let's say something weird and see what happens.' "
Flashback  to episode 6: on the ferry: Inge:"I might be stupid, but I'm not that stupid, Marc! I wanted to mislead people."
Inge:"In this game, not only do you have to catch The Mole, you also have to play The Mole from time to time. Yep... and I succeeded great!"
Flashback  to episode 6: the journal challenge. Inge is waiting for Sandra and takes her gun when she sees her. Shadia:"Don't do anything yet, over." Marc:"Inge don't shoot!" However, Inge aims and does shoot.
Inge:"Even though they told me not to shoot, I did shoot. That me look suspicious too and I found it fun to be the prime suspect!" (laughs)

The Cheques
After dinner, the cheques are given to the people who won personal money for not opening the tubes. And Stijn gets his cheque of 33,100 € and also gets the Mario Lanza album they won int episode 5!
Everyone applauds and the host asks what Stijn is going to do with it.
Stijn:"I always said I wanted to share the money and I am going to. I always thought about how I was going to do that and I decided to give 2,000 € to all people who didn't get personal money. Everyone cooperated as a team. I played it to find The Mole and the money didn't really matter."
They all appreciate Stijn's gesture a lot.
Marc:"I also want to say I thought it was a great privilege to be The Mole in this fantastic group and I will miss you all."

Final Confession Cam
Christophe:(deep sigh)"... the final confession cam they told me. It's only the second confession cam to me... and euhm... I don't really have much to confess."
Sandra:"It made me a bit silent to realise it's all over now. It's a pity. It was a fantastic experience. I can't describe it, I'm bad with words as it is, but I can't describe the feeling as to what it is to participate in 'De Mol'."
Inge:"I got to know really nice people, have beautiful memories, did fantastic things, but I also had pain and felt bad and have taken some things to the heart, which I can now put into perspective, but which hurt at that time."
Shadia:"I all appreciate them, one more than the other, but they're all great people."
Christophe:"Stijn... I have no words for his gestures."
Walter:"He gave all people who opened the tubes and who didn't earn anything, he gives the 2,000 €. That was... phenomenal. I was really emotional about it."
Nicole:"I fond it very generous of Stijn, but I decided today that I'm not going to accept it. He deserves it and he deserves his stay in China to which he's looking forward to so much."
Corry:"Stijn, you really deserve it and you're a super great guy!"
Nicole:"And now I would accept that 2,000 € from him? That would be crazy."
Stijn:"Marco, you did a great job! Really, you're amazing! Super!"
Marc:"As Mole I tried to play the game in a human way, which meant sabotaging during the game. Sabotaging to make sure the challenges failed, but always in such a way that people could keep their dignity."
Bruno:"I have to say Marc did great. He remained spontaneous at the right moments, went along with the challenges at the right moments.... Marc was a fantastic, great Mole!"
Inge:"Tomorrow the black hole will come. I will miss it all. Back to normal, back to reality. I hope we'll meet again some time and only remember the good memories."
Stijn:"I don't want to go. This really feels like the ultimate goodbye. It hurts a little."
Marc:"... yeah... it's over... I will miss them all... but life goes on... See you...." (stands up and leaves)

The credits roll over the screen as we see behind the screens footage. Cameramen running after running contestants, Bart en Tom (from the picture you saw earlier) taking the cardboard Inge and Sandra, saying they're going to take them home, Inge, who aims her paintball gun at one of the crew, ... and a final shot of the unmasking of The Mole and all camera's filming it. Bart:"On to 'De Mol 4!' " The camera shakes from left to right as in saying 'No'....
