Belgian Mole 3
Episode 5

Walter had to go home. So there are only two men left in the game. Statistically
this means that the chance for The Mole being a woman is bigger. Unless The Mole
is someone who likes to be surrounded by women... After 11 days, they already
won 14,600 euro. But they also lost out on 44,600. And that's mostly thanks to
the great job of The Mole
Day 11 - Nebida, South-Sardinia
The contestants are having breakfast. Then suddenly Stijn
arrives back with the group! He bought each one of them a present. A stuffed
animal (a pig) for Corry, A cartoony James Bond T-shirt for Marc,
two obscene mugs for Inge, an ashtray that makes coughing noises when you
press on it and Sandra gets a bracelet. Stijn:"It's from
Senegal. It attracts happiness and also spreads happiness." Sandra
likes it a lot.
Today they get visitors, but they have to drive to the North of
Sardinia for that. In the car, Stijn says it would be great of the visitors had
to do a challenge instead of the contestants.
In the other car Corry says she's glad to see her husband again. Inge
(after last episode's discussion) does seem to listen to Corry this time
and warns her that they probably have to do some kind of challenge in order to
see them. "And if we fail, your husband will be sent home... that would
be hard."
Suddenly we see shots of the visitors:
Filip:"I'm Filip and I'm Sandra's boyfriend."
Kelly:"I'm Kelly... Fernandez... Shadia's best friend."
Liesbet:"I'm Liesbet. I'm Stijn's sister."
Alain:"I'm Alain. Married to Corry."
Jose:"I'm Jose, Inge's husband."
Linda:"I'm Linda, I'm Marc's husband... mother of three?"
Another shot is shown. Of someone falling down a cliff and screaming...
The contestants arrive. They are on top of a cliff and all the
way down in the sea, they can see a boat. In it are all their visitors. The
visitors had to estimate whether the contestants would do a bungee jump off the
cliff. They have to guess what their visitors predicted. And then they must also
do what they think their visitors predicted. If 4 of the 6 are correct, they win
3,000 euro. So they don't all have to jump. They must prove that the contestants
and their visitors know each other well.
Host:"I also have to tell you that the point where you are going to jump
from is a bit further down the cliff. You first have to rappel down to that
spot."
Inge:"Never! He has said I wouldn't jump."
Marc:"She will say no. She told me not to do any dangerous
things."
Sandra:"Filip has said yes."
Stijn:"I've been saying for ages that I want to go parachute
jumping, but I don't want to do a bungee jump..."
Inge:"And you think your sister will have said no?"
Stijn:"I think she has. I hope not."
Marc:"The question is, do I dare to jump!"

The host asks each contestant separately what they think their
visitor said.
Host:"Sandra, what do you think?"
Sandra:"Filip most definitely said yes."
Filip:"She would be anxious to do a bungee
jump."
Sandra:"I already did it before, so he knows."
Filip:"Definitely. Sandra goes for everything
100 %."
So it's a YES - YES match.
Host:"How
did Jose estimate you?"
Inge:"He will say I won't jump. He knows I have a fear of
heights..."
Jose:"She has a lot of fear of heights."
Inge:"... that I would do certain things under group
pressure..."
Jose:"If the
group really wants her to do it, I think she would do it."
Inge:"But there is no pressure here. Everyone can decide for
himself whether to jump or not."
Jose:"On her own decision? No she wouldn't
jump."
Inge:"He
will definitely say no."
Again a match! NO - NO this time.
Host:"Corry,
what do you think Alain has predicted?"
Corry:"He knows my ankle is sprained, so he'll say no."
Alain:"Corry would bungee jump with her foot
if she knows it wouldn't get any worse."
Corry:"I'd rather like to jump, but that's not
possible, so... no."
Alain:"She will hesitate, but will jump. With
her eyes closed."
Corry:"I've been waiting for it all the time and now I
can't jump."
Alain:"I'll say yes."
Corry:"No."
Oops. NO - YES. Not a match.

Host:"Shadia, how do you think your friend estimated you?"
Shadia:"She definitely said no."
Host:"Sure?"
Shadia:"Very sure."
Kelly:"She would doubt. And be very
scared..."
Shadia:"She knosw I always said I wouldn't do it, so
it would be weird if she would now say I would do it."
Kelly:"... but she would do it. I think so.
She'll go for it."
Shadia:"If she says yes it's her fault we fail!"
NO - YES
Stijn:"I'm
80 % sure my sister said no, because I've been telling everyone for years that I
would love to go parachutejumping. But I don't want to do a bungee jump."
Liesbet:"Yes, I think he would bungee
jump."
Stijn:"Now that I'm standing here I do really want to
jump, but..."
Liesbet:"Not with
much pleasure though..."
Stijn:"I'm also a bit scared for my arm, because it
dislocates easily."
Liesbet:"I think he will jump."
Stijn:"I really think think she said no."
Liesbet:"He would
absolutely go for it."
Stijn:"And if she said yes... then I'll get
pissed."
NO - YES

Marc:"I think my wife said I wouldn't jump."
Linda:"I wouldn't like him to jump, I wouldn't
like it."
Marc:"Because she's scared something might
happen."
Linda:"What if a spring gets loose or a rope
snaps..."
Marc:"Because I promised not to do any dangerous
things."
Linda:"But I do think he would do it."
Marc:"I think I'm not going to jump, even though I
want to! But I'm not jumping."
Linda:"He jumps."
NO - YES
For now, only 2 of the 6 predictions are correct. The group is
still discussing it though. In the visitors boat too.
Linda:"Can I give one last message to my husband?"
Jose (looking through binoculars):"I think I see someone
coming."
Liesbet:"I think one of them is ready to go."
Jose:"I can't believe Inge would go to that platform."
Liesbet:"Do you think it's safe?"
Linda:"I think not. With this kind of weather? There's too much
wind!"
They suddenly see someone rappeling down the cliff to the platform. Filip
looks with the binoculars and describes the person who's going down. Liesbet:"Curly
hair? Can I watch?"
It's Stijn indeed!
flashback
Stijn:"I really think think she said no."
Liesbet:"I think he will jump."
Some footage of the contestants discussing the challenge on the cliff:
Shadia:"I can imagine her saying yes for you!" Inge agrees.
Sandra:"The two of you definitely yes and you two definitely
not."
Stijn:"OK I'll jump."
Stijn gets a camera helmet on. The visitors in the boat can
see his face on tha monitor. Liesbet:"He's scared." Linda:"Oh
help."
Stijn jumps and his sister screams. His helmet drops off, but he
survives the jump.
Linda:"You can rest easy now."
Jose:"We've got two points already, because Inge won't jump."
Filip:"Woe betide you if she does jump!"
Jose:"Yeah... then I don't know my wife."
Kelly:"Look, someone else is going down!"
Linda thinks it's her husband, Marc who's going to jump. She gets
nervous.
flashback
Marc:"I think I'm not going
to jump."
Linda:"He jumps."
Some footage of the contestants discussing the challenge on the cliff.
Corry:"You did so many things already."
Shadia:"And you just said you did want to jump and now you
don't!"
Marc:"OK I'm going to jump."
Marc gets the helmet on. He looks scared and shakes his head.
Linda:"He's not going to do it. He's untying the rope."
Jose:"Cheer him on!"
Linda:"No, you don't force something like that! He doesn't want to
jump, the poor guy!"
Filip:"He looks very serious."
Linda:"He does have three kids and a wife, you know."
Jose:"He's standing on the edge."
Filip:"He's going to jump."
Linda:"I hope he's well secured..." She keeps her hands
over her mouth.
Marc jumps and screams. The visitors see the fear in his eyes. He's
spinning.
Linda:"He'll be sick, I think."
Sandra is going down.
Filip:"It's Sandra."
flashback
Sandra:"Filip
most definitely said yes."
Filip:"She would be anxious to do a bungee
jump."
She's a bit frightened, but jumps almost immediately.
Inge's husband was right too, she didn't jump. So they have 4 correct and
win 3,000 euro. The pot is now at 17,600 euro and they are brought to their
visitors.
Day 12 - Alghero, Nord-Sardinia
They can spend the day together until late in the afternoon.
Shadia:"It's nice to have someone familiar around. Someone who
knows you well. It's fun."
Inge:"I really missed someone to talk to outside the contestants. To explain all your theories. Someone to hug. Someone who's real! And he's real! It really is my husband!" (laughs)
Marc:"It's good to have my wife close to
me."
Linda:"You needed me, honey."
Marc:"Yes, it's really nice. The more hunger you get the
better it tastes."
Stijn:"I didn't think I would be so happy to see
her. I though 'Oh, I don't need all that crap.' but I'm really glad she's
here." Liesbet laughs.
Stijn:"Don't be so shy, it's true."
Filip:"It's very exciting of course. I was looking forward to it and I'm happy to see her of course."
Corry:"It's the first time we've been awayfrom
each other for so long."
Alain:"I knew she was hurt, but now that I see it's not that bad, I
can rest assured."
Could the contestants be The Mole accoring to their visitors?
Alain:"Inge could be The Mole, but I think she wouldn't be able to keep
it silent."
Filip:"Sandra is very spontaneous. She connects with
everyone and is very social, but als ohas something mysterious over her. I feel
that there are a lot of people here who think she's The Mole."
Host:"And what do you think."
Filip:"It could be very well possible."
Kelly:"Shadia are you The Mole?" (they both
laugh)
Shadia:"No!"
Kelly:"I knew that. Nah, I don't see it in her."
Liesbet:"I don't think Stijn's The Mole. He would be able to do it, but I would be very surprised if he were The Mole. I don't think so. He would fool us all if he would be The Mole."
Alain:"I saw Corry today in a way I didn't know her. So
somewhere, something must have changed and maybe that's The Mole factor. So it's
possible she's The Mole. She would be my prime suspect."
Corry:"... this is so bad..."
Linda:"I can honestly tell what I think?" (She
points at Marc)
Marc:"Me?!"
Linda:"I think so."
Marc:"Why that?"
Linda:"Because you didn't tell me anything. Everyone has been
telling lots of things and you haven't so you're probably keeping that for me
too, I think."
Marc:"But you didn't want me to tell you anything."
Linda:"I know... but that's just what I'm thinking. But is it true?
We will find out later!"
Time for the next challenge. The contestants are in a cave. At a
beach 10 kilometers away, their visitors are waiting for them for the goodbye
party, but they don't have any fire. They have to get it to them. There are two
ways to get there: over sea or over land. If one of the groups gets the fire to
the visitors on time, they get 3,000 euro.
For the sea route, they have to swim until they reach a jet ski for two. Then
they go on jet ski to a motor boat, which they have to use to get to a kayak for
two, with which they have to row to the beach.
The land route people first have to climb 600 steps to get from the cave to the
top of the mountain. There they find a tandem, with which they have to cycle to
a beach where a horse is waiting for them. They take the horse to the beach
where the visitors are.
On the way to the beach there are several stops where they can try to light the
fire again. First they decide on who does which route.
Inge:"I can ride a horse, but don't know if I can cycle while
holding a torch, unless I can sit on the back with someone. I've rode horse for
5 years."
They are thinking about letting Corry go by land.
Inge:"Don't you think we have a better chance if we take Corry
over the water?"
Corry:"I don't know how you have to get from one vehicle into
the other... No, you guys take the water."
In the cave they find things with which they can keep the fire burning, or
protect it from going out. Things such as pictures of the contestants, wood,
some shoes, fir-cones,...
Corry, Inge and Stijn go by land, while Shadia, Sandra
and Marc try the sea route. They have 90 minutes to get to the visitors.
Inge and Stijn leave with the firs. Corry is far behind,
since it's difficult for her to take the 600 steps with a foot in a cast. Both Inge
and Corry have a torch with fire.
The others get in the water, making sure the torch doesn't touch any water. Marc is holding the torch. They reach the jet ski for two people. Sandra holds the torch, while Shadia and Marc get on the jet ski. But when Marc gets on, the jet ski tilts and they fall in the water. Sandra tries to avoid the splashing water. They try again and it works. The two leave on the jet ski, while Sandra is taken to the motor boat. They advance very slow in order not too let the fire go out. Marc:"A bit slower, Shadia, if you go faster, the fire will go out."
The land people have arrived the top. They waited for Corry
and put on the firs, because there are some things there to make another fire. Corry
stays behind to guard the fire. Stijn and Inge take the tandem to
the next location. Inge is on the back and holds the torch. She tells him
not to cycle too fast, or the fire will go out. They see Marc and Shadia
on the jet ski all the way down at sea. (they are on a mountain) Inge
says she thinks it's impossible to keep the fire burning on all that water.
They reach a second stop. Now they have to decide if someone stays behind to
guard the fire, or if both of them continue. They light a fire and decide to
continue. Stijn:"If the fire goes out, it's game over." Inge:"I'd
rather have two people to the next stop. Suppose it's still a long way."
They both continue. Inge says they have 45 minutes left and have to cycle
a bit quicker.
Shadia and Marc have arrived at the motor boat, where Sandra is waiting. Shadia circles around the boat one time, but there's water coming out the back, so they have to be careful. They give Sandra the torch. On the rocks they can make a new fire, in case this one goes out. Marc swims towards it to light it. But Sandra still has the torch. She gets out the boat and swims to Marc. Then they have to get back into the boat again... it takes them 12 minutesto make the fire and get in the motor boat! They have 34 minutes left. Both Shadia and Sandra protect the flame and tell Marc to slow down once in a while.
Inge wonders if it's better to leave Stijn behind
to guard the fire on the next stop and that she walks the horse to the visitors.
Suddenly, their torch is out!!
They cycle back to the previous stop and hope the fire there is still burning.
Luckily it is and they can light the torch again.
The water people have arrived at the kayak. Marc and Sandra get on it to row to their final destination. It's a bit of a hussle to get in safely, but they make it. Sandra is in front and Marc in the back. Sandra rows, but almost gets water on the torch with her peddle.
Stijn and Inge have arrived at the next stop, where a horse is waiting. They light a new fire. Stijn stays behind and Inge mounts the horse with the torch to get to the visitors.
They have 9 minutes 50 seconds left. Sandra is tired of rowing and Marc takes over. Sandra turns around, so she can protect the torch with her entire upper body. It's getting dark already.
Inge is riding the horse through a forest. "Ho,
easy... easy."
The horse apparently doesn't take it easy though... it starts running. Inge:"Stop
stop stop! Help me!! The fire is out, help me, help me! I can't ride a horse,
the fire is out, HELP ME!!!"
Watch a
compilation videoclip of Inge saying she can ride a horse and the horse
bolting and Inge screaming for help here.
She runs back to Stijn. She tells him the fire is out and that the
horse bolted. Stijn takes over and Inge asks if he wants to go to
the visitors on foot. Stijn:"Is that possible?" Inge:"that's
possible. Good luck!" So Stijn takes the fire and goes on foot.
Both teams have one and a half minute left.
Stijn's torch goes out and he runs back.
Marc and Sandra arrive at the beach! They hug each
other. They are more than 5 minutes late. They don't believe it at first. Marc
looks at his watch and notices it's not working anymore.
Linda:"Too bad."
Marc:"Well it means it's broken."
Linda:"Oh well- HEY! That's that expensive watch!!"
Marc:"Just take it along and bring it back to the shop to let
it get fixed."
Linda:"I don't have any time this week."
The rest arrives too. The challenge is failed and the pot stays
at 17,600 euro. They spend the last night together with their visitors, because
they have to go home tomorrow. They do have to go to the confession cam
though...
CC
Marc:"The visit is almost over. It was really nice to hold Linda
in my arms again after 14 days. It was a good initiave. It was fun."
Corry:"If your husband is with you, all is well. Your
batteries are charged again."
Stijn:"I will be glad when the visit is over. So we can be
back in the group again, so we can easily work on what we were doing
again."
Shadia:"Today we had a really great challenge in the water.
I'm glad I was one of the poepl who could go into the water. Too bad it failed,
but oh well."
Corry:"There's an elimination again tomorrow. I don't know
how I will do, but I'm hoping to stay a bit longer."
Sandra:"I did think about Walter a bit today. I found it a
pity for him. I knew he was looking forward to his wife coming here. He's the
only person who I felt pity for that he had to go home."
Stijn:"It's hard. It's really hard. But we'll continue to the
end. A lot of fun things are awaiting us! I really have to go to sleep now, I'm
sorry. Goodnight!" (blows a kiss at the camera)
Day 13 - Alghero, Sardinia
It's 5:30 AM and the visitors are picked up to go back home. They
all say goodbye to their visitors. But where's Shadia? The host wakes her
up to ask her if she wants to say goodbye. She does. Everyone hugs and kisses
and then the visitors leave. The contestants probably go back to bed.
Palau, North of Sardinia
Five people walk through a courtyard of some kind of old prison and
climb a lot of steps to meet the host. Shadia isn't with them. She's the
chosen one for today. (or in Dutch, it's the 'uitverkorene')
We see footage of how she became the 'uitverkorene'. Yesterday, they each got a
piece of paper with letters on it. The person who could find the word in it
first would be the 'uitverkorene'. The letters are as follows:
ROTE
RUNK
EVIE
Shadia foudn the word. The word was 'uitverkorene'... so
it had already been told to them before they started the game. Shadia
will be in control today. She has to decide what the others have to do. The
others are locked up in prison cells. (every person in one prison cell) The host
talks to Shadia.
Host:"Shadia, first I'll have to say that everything we talk about, will
be heard by The Mole. If you are The Mole, that's obvious of course. If you're
not The Mole, one of the other contestants will be listening in. They all have a
headset and one of them can hear us. You have to divide everyone, including
yourself, in three pairs. One pair has to have good skill. One pair has to be
good at common knowledge and one pair has to be able to assess things very
well."
Shadia chooses Inge and Corry for the 'assessing
things'. Marc and herself for 'common knowledge' and Sandra and Stijn
for 'good skill'.
Every person in a duo has to 'fight' each other in a duel. The winner will get 3
free questions correct on the questionnaire. Shadia gets 1,000 euro to
start with. She can bet it for every duel. If she bets well, she can win 8,000
euro. But The Mole hears what she decides.
The first duel is 'common knowledge'. The game is 'name five'. Shadia
wants to play safe and doesn't bet any money. She predicts she will win.
They can each choose among 8 categories. Then the host asks them to name five
things. For example, if they chose politics, the host might ask 'Name five
Flemmish ministers.' They each have to stand at a different place on the roof of
the prison. Shadia walks to the left, Marc to the right. As they
do, we see all 8 categories appear and move across the screen: music, Italy,
Nobel price, the mole, geography, history, film and Belgium. Shadia chose
geography and history, Marc film and Belgium. The person who needs the
least amount of seconds to name five things, wins the three free
questions.
Marc has to name five movies of Steven Spielberg.
Marc:"Jaws, Shindler's list,.... Amistad...."
Time goes by. Twenty seconds have past already.
Host:"There are a lot of them."
Marc:"I know... eehm... Savind Privat Ryan..."
His 30 seconds are up. So there's 30 seconds on the counter. Time would have
stopped if he had named five movies before the 30 seconds had run out, but now
it's standing on 30.
Shadia's turn.
Host:"Shadia, name five neighbouring countries of China."
Shadia:"Of China?! (laughs) Russia... ehm... Russia to
begin with..."
She keeps on thinking, but doesn't come up with anything. She too has 30
seconds on the counter.
Marc:
Host:"Name five Belgian cities or villages that start with the letter
K."
Marc:"... Kuurne... Kwaad-Mechelen.... eehm... Kuurne,
Kwaad-Mechelen... Kalmthout! Kontich! And..."
18 seconds passed...
Marc:"Kortrijk!!"
His couter is now at 48 seconds. Shadia has to beat it.
Watch a very
short videoclip of Marc guessing Kortrijk at 48 seconds. (if you listen
carefully it seems someone whispers 'Kortrijk' at 47 seconds... which arose a
lot of speculations on the internet)
Host:"Name five Roman emperors."
Shadia laughs:"Eeehm... Nero... Caesar...."
She already takes more than Marc. The host tells her she only has
one, because Caeser never was an emperor. Shadia can't name any other and
loses. Marc wins the three free questions. No money is won, nor lost,
because she didn't bet any.
Duel 2: Stijn - Sandra
Shadia bets all 1,000 euro on Stijn because she thinks he will stay
calm.
The duel is a classic duel, but with paintball guns instead of real ones. They
have to stand against each other back to back and take 10 paces. Then they turn
around and can shoot one after the other. The person that hits the other first,
without getting hit himself, wins the round and the three free questions.
Sandra and Stijn are standing against each other. They each take
ten paces and turn around. Stijn aims and hits Sandra. It's her
turn now. She aims and hits him too. They have to take ten paces again (so they
get further away from each other. Sandra aims, shoots and... misses. Stijn
aims and... hits her! He gets three free questions and Shadia now has
2,000 euro to bet with in the final duel between Inge and Corry.
She bets it all on Corry.
The two girls have to assess time. Each of them has a big timer. They are
blinded. The game starts when the host activates the timers. They have to stop
the timer after 100 seconds. The person that's closest to the 100 seconds, wins.
They have to ask each other two questions and answer truthfully.
The game starts...
Inge:"What's the licence plate of your car?"
Corry:"HVW-202."
Seconds go by and both are silent...
Corry:"How did you meet your husband?"
Inge:"At a party."
40 seconds have gone by...
Inge:"What have you done last christmas?"
...
Corry:"Eeeehmm... we celebrated it in the Ardennes."
50 seconds... they are halfway...
60 seconds...
Corry:"What's the last book you've read?"
Inge:"Secret History by Donna Tartt."
Seconds go by...
Suddenly Inge stops the timer!
Corry waits quite a long time and then also stops the timer.
Inge stopped the timer at 95 seconds. Then they check Corry's
timer. She stopped it at... 108 seconds. She loses and Inge wins the
three free questions.
The others are called in and told about all duels and what Shadia did.
She has to tell them. She didn't bet on the first duel and didn't win any money.
On the second duel she bet 1,000 euro on Stijn. The others are glad and
some clap their hands. So they had 2,000 euro.
Host:"Then the last duel came. Between Inge and Corry. What did you bet
and on who?"
Shadia:"I bet 2,000 euro on Corry."
All:"Aaaaaaah!"
The host says they didn't win anything except for Marc, Stijn
and Inge who won the three free questions.
Suspicions
Shadia:"Kelly visited me yesterday. She tipped Sandra. Because
she said that, I started to keep aneye on Sandra, but there really isn't
anything that points in her direction."
Stijn:"I dunno, I think Sandra is... she's a top contestant.
She could really play The Mole! She's very capable of doing it. But if she is
The Mole is a different question."
Sandra:"I don't have any free questions. I should have done
my best more, I could really use them."
Corry:"Unfortunately I don't have any free questions.
Stupidly enough. I should have thought about it and immediately hit the timer
after Inge had stopped it."
Marc:"Shadia didn't really do her best today. She could have
won more money than what she did."
Inge:"All in all, Shadia didn't do too bad today. I would
immediately bet in the first duel, but she restrained herself."
Shadia:"I was wrong today, but I guess it's human to... to be
wrong sometimes."
Sandra:"I still think I'm on to the correct person. Not
everyone knows that for sure I think. It's going to be really exciting."
Stijn:"There's 6 people left and we're all getting closer.
Still no very tight friendships yet, I think, but it's getting
comfortable."
Corry:"If we lose we don't care we lost money again. We'd
better take it more seriously, because are money pot is getting pittiful."
Marc:"Every step you come closer, that pot comes closer. The
chance that the pot will start playing a role will get bigger. I can't imagine
it won't play any role till the end."
Suspicious in this episode
Corry's husband and Shadia's
friend said the person they were visiting would bungee jump. Is one of them in
on the game?
Marc and Stijn didn't want to jump at first...
Inge's torch goes out whilst on the tandem.
Corry stalls the others by not being able to get on the stairs quickly
with her (faked?) foot in cast.
Marc and Shadia fall off the jet-ski when they're trying to get
on, splashing water around, which could have unlit the fire.
The water team takes 12 minutes to light a fire and get into the motorboat.
Inge says she will take the land route, because she can ride a horse and
she's done it for 5 years. Then when she's on the horse and it bolts, she yells
she can't ride a horse.
Stijn goes the last part on foot, but his torch goes out.
Sandra and Marc are 5 minutes late. Conveniently, time on Marc's
watch is standing still, because it broke.
Shadia bets all the money, instead of a part of it.
Corry loses to Inge. If she had stopped the timer immediately
after Inge did, she would have won. Was she the one who could hear Shadia
and the host talking through the headphones?
Elimination
Stijn, Marc and Inge won three free questions on the
questionnaire. So three questions were already counted as being correct. Will it
have any influence on the elimination?
