Belgian Mole 3
Episode 6

So Corry's injury was real! It wasn't faked to sabotage the challenges. She was
the fifth person to leave the game. Five players were left and one of them is
The Mole.
Day 14 - Olbia, North of Sardinia
The contestants leave Sardinia and travel back (by boat) to the
Italian mainland. On the boat they get to interview each other. They can choose
who they want to interview. See who chose to interview who:
->
Shadia would like to interview Inge
<->
Inge would like to interview Marc and he wants to interview
her.
->
Stijn is going to interview Sandra
->
And Sandra is interviewing Marc.
Sandra:"Hi, Marc, how are you doing?"
Marc:"I'm doing good, how are you!"
Sandra:"I'm great! Are you still having fun?"
Marc:"Enormously!"
Sandra:"No one's getting on your nerves?"
Marc:"Not one."
Stijn:"What's your goal in this game? Do you want
to win?"
Sandra:"I always want to win a game. It wouldn't be fun
if there's a challenge I don't like and I would say 'I'm not going to do
this.', I always want to go for it."
Marc:"How on earth did you manage to connect
Quebec with Australia?"
flashback to episode 3: Inge:"Capital
city of Australia? Isn't that Quebec?"
Inge:"I thought it was a game, a kind of joke and I
hadn't realized it was for real."
Marc:"Was there a camera pointed on you?"
Inge:"Errm... yes."
Marc:"So you knew you were being filmed?"
Inge:"I just thought it was a joke."
Marc:"Convenient to think about it that way of
course..."
Sandra:"Do you know what I'm wondering about is
why you took those two exemptions?"
flashback to episode
3. Sandra pulls Stijn's name out of the bag and he gets two
exemptions.
Stijn:"It was a very impulsive action."
Sandra:"Don't you regret it?"
Stijn:"Nah, I never regret anything I've done. But if I was
given the choice again, no way, I wouldn't take it anymore."
Inge:"And you're also a man who's not from this
time, huh?"
Marc:"Not from this time??"
Inge:"Your watch is broken and stands still on 5:55 PM."
flashback to episode
5: Marc and Sandra arrive at the beach! They hug each
other. They are more than 5 minutes late. they don't believe it at first. Marc
looks at his watch and notices it's not working anymore.
Inge:"If I would have been in that little boat, I would be
looking at my watch constantly to see if we are still on time."
Marc:"No, you couldn't do that, because you're constantly
holding that torch."
Inge:"But I guess eventually only the strong
personalities remain."
Shadia:"You find you've got a strong personality."
Inge:"I don't really think I've got a strong personality, but
I always persevere at things."
Sandra:"Are you The Mole?"
Marc:"Nah..."
They maugh about it. Sandra:"You have to look into my
eyes!"
Marc:"Are you The Mole?!"
Sandra:"I'm interviewing you, you're not interviewing
me!"
Inge:"If you would be The Mole, would you tell
your wife?"
Marc:"Yes I would tell her."
Inge:"She would know?"
Marc:"She would know."
Inge nods...:"... ok..."
Shadia:"Do you think Marc is The Mole?"
Inge:"Of all people remaining, Marc could be The Mole. You
could be The Mole. Sandra could certainly be The Mole... and... Stijn I don't
think could be The Mole."
Shadia laughs:"So almost everyone!"
Sandra:"And your suspects? Did a lot of people
you suspected already leave the game? It looks like it."
Marc laughs:"Unfortunately yeah!"
Sandra:"And were you relieved?"
Marc:"No not at all!"
Sandra:"But you have to be relieved... if a suspect is gone
quickly, that's good."
Marc:"I'd rather liked it if they'd stayed, then I knew I was
right."
Shadia:"Have you switched moles a lot
already?"
Inge:"Euhm..... yes. Every episode three times!"
After so many days, it's important for them not to reveal too
much. They all have to decide whether they will trust the information they've
been given...
Still on the boat back to Italy, the host informs them that there will be two
challenges. They have to select two people for the first one: power and brains.
Someone who thinks and someone who acts.
The women (mainly Inge and Sandra) say that Stijn and Marc
have to go. Because they both have strength and brains. So the men have one
challenge and the women the other challenge.
They arrive in Italy. In the women's car, Shadia said it would have been
better to keep a guy with them:"It's always better to have a man around.
You never know what you'll have to do. A man and a woman together... for some
balance."
They drive from Civitavecchia 400 kilometers to L'aquila. (almost hitting a
cat, which crosses the road)
The women arrive at their destination. They see a lot of planks an pieces of
wood. The host says it's an excellent challenge for the free, independent and
resourceful women they are. There's an entire bedroom on the field. But there's
one piece too much and one piece is missing. If they can find out which piece is
missing and which piece they have too much, they'll win 3,000 €. So they don't
have to put the entire DIY-bedroom together, but it could help them to find out
which piece is missing.
They start reading the manual. They have to build a bunk bed and a double bed,
some bedside tables and more. Inge says she needs 2 pieces of something,
but there already are three. Inge:"My husband will be laughing
when he sees this! If we have to put something of Ikea together at home, it's
always a disaster!"
Sandra:"I don't like this. This is really not my cup of
tea."
The guys also drive to their location. Radio on loud and singing
along to AC/DC's Hail Caesar. So they are the person who thinks and the person
who acts.
The thinker has to solve 4 riddles. The person who acts has to do 4 assignments.
The amount of time the thinker gets to solve the riddle depends on the person
who acts.
First assignment:
Marc has to carry a ham of 4 kilo (8 pound) and hold it out in front of
him, above a wire. If his arms touch the wire, time's up for Stijn to
solve the riddle. The riddle is in Dutch. He has to complete a sentence of
letters and words by adding a number on the dots. An English example would be
something like: 'He threw a st...' and on the dots the number one has to be
filled in to make the word 'stone'. There are 6 words which have to be completed
like that. The numbers he had to use then have to be added and he has to tell
the host that number.
They start off! Marc holds the ham in front of him with stretched arms.
After a while he's huffing and puffing, The host tells Stijn to hurry up,
because he's probably almost out of time. A few seconds later, Marc can't
hold up the ham any longer and time's up for Stijn. He couldn't complete
the sentence on time.
For every riddle they win, they can choose a reward out of five envelopes. For
every riddle they don't get, they also have to choose an envelop. They won't get
the reward which is in it. One envelope is the mystery envelope. It has a
question mark on it. The contents of the other four envelopes are written on it
cryptically in Italian: 'Vite a Brugola', 'Guadagno', 'Culatello di Zibello' and
'Salvadanaio'.
Stijn has done an Italian course for two years, but doesn't seem to
remember much of it anymore. Marc too doesn't really know what they mean.
Even though he's been to Italy before and was speaking Itlaian to the fake
policeman that arrested them in episode 3.
They go for 'Vite a Brugola'. It would have won them one screw. Marc and Stijn
laugh as the host shows them the screw. They haven't lost any money yet.
The girls, meanwhile, are still working on the bedroom. Inge is searching through an box filled with screws. She asks Shadia if she knows what they're missing. She doesn't. They all keep on building and taking it apart again, because it's wrong.
Second assignment for the guys. Stijn gets one minute to
start with. Marc has to shoot arrows on a board. If he hits bullseye,
they win another 4 minutes. The circle aroudn the bullseye is worth 3 minutes,
the next 2 and the outer circle 1.
Stijn gets that time to solve the following riddle:
Divide this figure into 4 equal parts. Watch the figure here.
The first minute they will start running when Marc shoots his first
arrow. His first one misses the board... the next arrow hits the board, but no
circle. After a while he has only 24 seconds left. Then he hits the 2 circle and
gets 2 minutes. Again het hits the 2 minutes. His next arrow is bullseye, which
adds 4 minutes. Another 2 minutes are hit and then 1 and his last arrow hits the
2 minutes circle. So in total they got 14 minutes, Stijn has 12 left.
The girls are still building the bedroom. Sandra wants to get a nail out of a plank. It suddenly goes out and she hits her nose with a hammer.
Stijn's time is up and he didn't find the correct answer. The host ask if Marc knows the solution. He thinks he does and draws it on the board. He's right, this is the correct solution, but it doesn't win them anything, because Stijn had to find it. They have to choose another envelope they won't get. Marc goes for 'Salvadanaio'. The host tells them it's Italian for piggy bank. In the envelope is a cheque of 1,000 €.
Inge seems to be taking the lead and is giving the other two girls instructions on how to build it. They have built three beds so far and Inge tells Sandra to start building the fourth one, but there aren't enough planks left for it...
For the next assignment, Marc is assisted by an Italian
man who manages a circus school in Rome. Marc has to spin plates on those
long, thin poles. As
soon as the Italian man has all the plates spinning on the poles, Stijn
can start the riddle and Marc has to try and keep the 9 plates spinning.
Time's up when all plates have fallen off. Stijn's riddle is to connect 9
dots with four lines, without lifting his pencil. See the 9 dots on the picture
on the left.
Time starts and Marc tries to keep the plates spinning on the poles. But
every little touch he does, makes the plate fall off. Five plates already fall
within the first few seconds... Both he and Stijn start laughing. Instead
of letting the plates spin, Marc keeps on trying, knocking all plates off
in the end. Both guys are weak with laughter!
Stijn obviously didn't have enough time and again the riddle is failed.
The trick to connect the dots was to think outside of the box which is made by
the dots. Click
here to see the solution.
Again they have to choose an envelope they won't get. They go for 'Culatello di Zibello',
which contains a cheque. Written on it is 'Can be exchanged for a ham.' They
would have won the ham, Marc had to hold in the first assignment of this
challenge.
Shadia notices she's missing an entire bed. They have
built four beds, but there are five mattresses. They still want to build the
fifth bed, but don't have the material for it. The girls still haven't figured
out that the thing they have too much is a mattress and the thing they're
missing is a screw.
Shadia:"There are five mattresses, so we have to build five
beds."
Marc and Stijn change places for the last riddle. Marc
wil try to solve it and Stijn will do an assignment to see how much time Marc
gets. The time Marc gets is the amount of time Stijn can hold his
breath. He gets put on an old
diver's
helmet, which gets filled with water. If he gives up, time's up.
Marc gets a riddle which the contestants already had to solve earlier on
in the game, namely in episode 2 where they had to defuse the bomb. Marc
has to fill in the numbers 1 to 9 (except 2) in the following box, so that
adding up all rows and columns makes 15:
2 ? ?
? ? ?
? ? ?
Stijn's helmet gets filled with water. Funny detail: there's a goldfish
in the helmet too, which swims around Stijn's face. After a short while,
he already gives up. Marc hasn't completed the riddle yet. The solution
would be to place the number 5 in the middle:
2 9 4
7 5 3
6 1 8
They have two envelopes left to choose from: the mystery envelope or the one
with 'Guadagno' on it. They decide to go for 'Guadagno' and to keep the mystery
envelope. Guadagno means profit in Italian. The envelope contains a cheque,
worth 1,000 €. But they do get the mystery envelope... it contains a cheque
which worth one LP (long-playing record) of Mario Lanza, an Italian tenor, very
well known in the 50s! For
those interested, click here to see the cover of the LP.
Marc and Stijn start laughing and keep on laughing. The host tells
them the group's pot is now up at 17,600 € and an LP of Mario Lanza!
The girls are still working on the bedroom. Inge tells Shadia
that they can make a double bed for the extra mattres, but Shadia says
they can't, because they don't have any planks for the bottom of the bed to put
the mattress on. Inge:"Or maybe you have to build it on top of
the other bed!" Shadia:"And then we have a manual too
much." Inge:"Let's just think for a moment!"
Eventually Inge gets it:"I know what we've got too much!
There are two double beds and we've got 5 mattresses, so there's a mattress too
much!" Shadia:"But what are we missing? what will we
exchange it for."
Meanwhile, the guys arrive at the open field where the girls are building
the bedroom. The guys are still laughing and get weak with laughter. They tell
the girls they've won a fantastich prize! An LP of Mario Lanza! And they starts
laughing again.
The girls tell the host they've got one mattress too much. Host:"An what
are you missing?" Inge:"We don't know..." Marc
and Stijn both ask:"It's a screw?" Marc:"Because
we lost out on winning a screw."
Sandra:"OK, a screw then. We've got a screw short and a
mattress too much!" Host:"Which screw?"
They search through the box of screws for the correct screw. Marc
takes one out and thinks that's the correct one. Stijn finds another one
and thinks that's the one. They both got to see the screw when they didn't win
it. Inge believes Stijn, although he says he's only 50 % sure. Marc
is 80 % sure and Sandra chooses his side. Sandra gives in though
and suggests to go for the screw Stijn chose.
It's the wrong one. Marc's screw was the correct one after all. Marc:"It's
about time you guys start listening to me..."
So 3,000 € goes down the drain. They didn't win any money again! And a lot
happened which made them overthink everything again...
CC
Sandra:"I don't find it very logical that Stijn never is able to
solve a riddle... that's weird. He hasn't been able to solve one single riddle
in the entire game!"
Stijn:"They were all the kind of riddle you had to know or
for which you had to be able to think very logically. That's not my cup of
tea."
Marc:"An extra question mark for Stijn is that, although he
had done an Italian course for 2 years, he couldn't get anything out of the
Italian clues on the envelopes. Maybe he's deliberately trying to be
suspicious."
flashback of Stijn
choosing the wrong screw.
Sandra:"Logically, a screw was missing and then Stijn says
he's 50 % sure of his screw, Marc is 80 % sure of the other screw and then we
choose Stijn's screw... not very logical, is it?"
Inge:"If there are people who suspect me, it's good to make
myself even more suspicious, so I'll hang on to that then."
Stijn:"Just no at the dinner table we were saying to each
other we really have to win some money tomorrow. While I'm more disappointed
that we failed the challenge itself. Of course, if you win the challenge, you do
get money for it."
Shadia:"It's more frustrating to miss out because of a minor
detail instead of when you just totally mess up. It's always those little
things. 5 minutes short... a wrong screw..."
Marc:"Either we have a good Mole, or we're all big
screw-ups!"
Sandra:"We were just talking about it. We're gonna go for it
tomorrow. We're going for the money! (laughs) Tomorrow we're going for
the money!! Think we'll manage?"
Day 15 - Poggio Picenze, Abruzzo
At breakfast, the host arrives and tells them they don't have to
select anyone for the next challenge, because they already did so. During the
interviews (the entire series) they and the eliminated players were always asked
who they trust most. The person that's trusted the most will have a special task
in the challenge today.
CC
Christophe:"My trust person in the group is Marc."
Inge:"The one I trust most is Stijn."
Sandra:"Euhm... Inge."
Marc:"Inge."
Bruno:"Marc."
Shadia:"Inge."
Inge:"Marc."
Sandra:"Pfff... Shadia."
Shadia:"I would think Stijn..."
Corry:"I think Sandra."
Stijn:"Sandra."
Marc:"Sandra."
Corry:"Sandra."
Stijn:"Sandra."
Walter::"Sandra."
Inge:"Sandra."
Stijn:"It's still Sandra."
So Sandra is the most trusted person. Therefor the others
have to give their journals to her. But she can't look in it. At least not as
long as the host is with her.
Sandra is taken to the village St. Stefano di Sessanio. A village with a
lot of narrow hallways and a big tower in the center. In fact , it's the same
village as used in USA
Mole 2 episode 10. You can do a virtual tour of the village on
this site.
All 10 contestants' journals are spread in the village. Standing on the
tower, you can see every one of them. Sandra can win an exemption if she
manages to steal 5 of the 10 journals without being caught by the others. One of
the others can hunt her down before she steals 5 journals. If the hunter
succeeds, they win 4,000 €, however the hunter will win the exemption. So they
have to decide who will be the hunter.
Inge seems to really want the exemption. The others want the exemption
too. Stijn doesn't know if he really wants to hunt on Sandra. Shadia:"I
do think the three people who stay on the tower should support the hunter and
help him."
The ydecide to draw lots for who can be the hunter, but Stijn doesn't
participate in it. Inge finds it suspicious he doesn't want to go for the
exemption. They draw lots and Inge will be the hunter. They don't really
think it's a good choice, but fate has decided.
Inge gets a paintball gun, but only has three bullets in it. She has to
hit Sandra before she has the fifth journal. The other three have to stay
on the twoer and watch out. They have to pay close attention to all journals,
because Inge can only start running if Sandra has taken the first
journal. The watchers search the journals.
Sandra gets a map of the village. The locations of the
journals are marked on it. She also gets a receiver, which she can put in her
ear, to hear the communications between the tower and Inge. She gets one
hour to get all 5 journals. The game begins!!
Inge asks the tower if they can see Sandra, but they don't yet. Inge:"Maybe
you can already find some kind of route for me, over." Shadia
(whispering):"That's what we're doing, over."
It's very important for the four contestants to get Sandra as soon as
possible, because in the journals, she can read all about their Mole suspects.
Sandra has found the first journal, but doesn't take it and she
continues, heading towards the tower.
Inge:"I'm standing at the entrance of the tower and can only go
left or straight ahead."
Then Stijn spots Sandra and tells Shadia, who informs Inge
about it. Inge starts running, but Shadia tells her to come back,
because Sandra hasn't taken a journal yet.
15 minutes have passed. Sandra is lost and turns left into an alley. The
watchers on the twoer see her. Sandra:"Oh am I here?!"
But Inge is in the same alley and points her gun at Sandra. Marc:"Inge,
don't shoot!"
Inge shoots at Sandra and says "The game is
over!"
Sandra:"I haven't even got a journal yet! OK this is good,
one bullet wasted already!"
Inge isn't allowed to shoot until Sandra has the first journal
and now she only has two bullets left. Sandra walks aroudn the tower,
goes past Inge and walks off again. The watchers understand that Sandra
is just locating all journals first. They don't see her anymore.
The others keep on waiting. They have 25 minutes and 50 seconds left.
Marc:"I think she's going to collect those journals really
fast."
Inge:"You have to put me in an ambush then, or I will never
catch her."
Shadia:"OK Inge, that's what we're doing, but don't talk so
much please, over."
Time goes by... 14 minutes left... Suddenly we see Sandra (through
the camera on her helmet) make a run for the first journal and grabs it!
The watchers don't notice it at first and Sandra keeps on running. Then Marc
notices a journal has disappeared. Shadia tells Inge to go to the
main street.
Marc:"The journal over there is gone too!"
Shadia:"OK, Inge, just come back to the tower."
Sandra grabs her third journal.
Shadia can't see Inge anymore, so Inge explains where she
is and waves. Shadia:"OK, I can see you, but you have to hide,
please. Where can I send her to?!"
Sandra takes the fourth journal. Inge is near the tower and
told by Shadia to keep waiting there. Inge is on guard, holding
her finger on the trigger. Sandra only needs one more journal and there
six possible journals left. Marc:"We're just gambling she will go
for that one journal Inge is guarding...."
The watchers don't see Sandra, but we hear her running through the
village...
Suddenly, they do see Sandra, who's running towards the tower!! Inge
sees her too and runs after her. Sandra goes around the tower from the
left side. Inge wants to outsmart her and goes around from the right side
and just as Sandra appears again, Inge aims her gun at Sandra.
Sandra yells "Shit!" and turns back. Inge goes to
the entrance of the circle around the tower, so Sandra can't escape.
Sandra appears again... out of breath. Inge points the gun at her.
Sandra:"Never mind, I've got five anyway."
Inge doesn't believe her and asks her to show them. Sandra
opens her bag (but she's still standing four meters away from Inge. Inge:"That's
four journals you have there!"
Sandra comes closer:"Don't shoot me!" She opens her
bag again and they count. She has five journals indeed! They admire Sandra's
strategy to wait so long and find all journals first. They congratulate her and Sandra
thanks them:"And I even said yesterday, that I was going for the money,
remember?!"
So they still have 17,600 € and an LP of Mario Lanza in the pot and Sandra
has an exemption.
Later that day, the host tells them he wants to give them
another chance to win some money, because they're not doing great at the
challenges. They can win 2,500 €. They have to write down the three names
of the people who are most likely to be eliminated. The two persons that get
most votes, have to sleep outside in a tent. If one of them does indeed get
eliminated, they win 2,500 €. Sandra of course won't get eliminated,
she has an exemption.
They write down the names and the host counts the votes. Stijn and Shadia
got most votes! If one of them doesn't wake up in a tent the next morning (i.e.
one of them gets eliminated) they will win 2,500 €.
Suspicions
Shadia:"Everyone wanted that exemption, except for Stijn.
Maybe he wants to show he has a heart or maybe he wants to go home... or maybe
he's just stupid, I don't know. To just say you don't want that
exemption..."
Stijn:"I think I4ve been quite suspicious the past few days,
but you should ask the others about that."
Inge:"He says he's generous, but that's not really a quality
for a player in De Mol 3, generosity."
Marc:"It's not motivating. the challenges fail and we're
feeling sorry for ourselves."
Inge:"Because of the exemption, we don't stand a great
chance. If The Mole is one of the four that don't have the exemption, chances
are big to be eliminated tonight. It's one out of 3."
Host:"Shadia, thanks to you, they can win some money tonight." Shadia:"Then
I'd rather choose for myself than for the money! (laughs) I hope they
don't win tonight."
Stijn:"I suggested that if I got eliminated, they could give
those 2,500 € to me!"
Marc:"We all go together well, we laugh much together in the
group, but we're not really the closest friends or anything."
Inge:"Today, some people have to sleep outside, some people
are put behind, that won't be good for the atmosphere in the group. Those little
things hurt a bit."
Suspicious in this episode
Stijn, the smart guy,
isn't able to solve any riddle.
Marc lets all plates fall from the poles very quickly and couldn't really
hold the ham out in front of him for a long time.
Stijn chose the wrong screw. Inge believed him. Even though he was
only 50% sure and Marc was 80 % sure, Sandra decides to go for Stijn's
screw.
Sandra says she wants to go for the money in the next challenge and then
she goes for the exemption.
Inge shoots at Sandra when she's not allowed to and wastes a
bullet.
Elimination
Sandra
has an exemption, so she won't be eliminated. If either Stijn or Shadia
get eliminated, they win 2,500 €.
