Belgian Mole 3
Episode 4

Making challenges succeed is not a guarantee to stay in the game. Bruno did his
best, but he became the third victim of The Mole. And Stijn chose the
ticket that would bring him 2 episodes further, but will miss three days of
crucial information. Maybe The Mole was in need of some rest. Or maybe The
Mole's waiting. Waiting to take down his next victim.
Day 8 - Viterbo
The contestants receive a videotape and play it. It's Stijn
on it:"Good morning everyone. I hope you had a good night's sleep. For
those who wanted this exemption so much, I'm very sorry, but I'm enjoying it a
lot. To the two people that will be eliminated when I'm gone: I'm very
sorry I can't say goodbye to you. And ther's one other thing I want to tell you.
Remember it well, because it's an important detail: Drive carefully!"
The contestants arrive at a big terrain, where they will be
stock car racing. They can win 5,000 euro. There's a central car, painted in
five different colours. The top is yellow, left is blue, right is green, the
back is painted red and the front black. The same colours are marked on the
terrain. If the central car drives over it, it means that that colour is
activated on the car. For every activated colour, they get 1,000 euro, however,
the colours have to remain undamaged. Two hooligan cars will try to crash into
the central cars, destroying the colours and thus taking away the money. There
are four others cars for the contestants, which they can use to defend the
central car. There's two rounds of ten minutes.
Corry will be navigator in the central car (according to Marc
because she always yells when a car arrives while they're driving, but probably
also because she can't drive a car with one leg in a cast) Shadia will be
the driver of the central car.
Inge:"Oh so we have to push the other cars away?" Walter:"Push?
Just drive into them full frontal!"
The first round starts! The immediately drive over green, which is the
nactivated. The hooligan cars drive towards them, but the central car is faster
plus the other four contestants hit the hooligan cars.
Yellow is activated, followed by black. Inge manages to hit one of the
hooligans and letting it turn around 180 degrees. Corry sees that the
others are trying to not let the hooligans get to them and tells Shadia.
Red is activated. Only blue left, but the blue car (driven by Walter) is
in the way, so they have to turn around the blue field and go back. Blue
activated! A hooligan car comes closer from the right. Walter can stop
him, but he brakes and the hooligan car can pass him. The central car also
breaks and wants to turn away, but the hooligan turns left and rams them. All
colours were activated, but the blue side has been hit and is out of play. They
have 4,000 euro left to win.
Sandra and Inge hit the same hooligan car gently, but it just
keeps on driving. Marc manages to block another hooligan car.
Walter is driving behind the central car, trying to protect it from the
hooligan car which is behind him. Corry is yelling through a microphone
to defend the other side. Walter and the hooligan car collide and at
reasonably high speed keep pushing into each other.
They have 15 seconds left to play. Suddenly Corry yells:"Look
out, behind you!!!" and starts screaming as in extreme chaos they get
hit in the back AND the side! The first round is over and only black from the
front and yellow on the roof remain undamaged.
The camera zooms out to a person who's watching them from a distance. It's Stijn! "What are they doing there for God's sake?"
They talk over their strategy to try to defend the front side.
It's kind of hectic, because they're all sitting in their cars and yell at each
other to be able to hear each other.
The second and last round starts! The central car immediately gets hit in the
back, but that's no problem, because they already got hit there, so they can't
lose that colour anymore.
Marc violently hits a hooligan car. The othe hooligan car hits the
central car in a back corner. The central car turns 90 degrees and drives away. Walter
hits the hooligan car, which then turns 180 degrees. Marc drives in
reverse and hits the car too. Sandra manges to follow the othe hooligan
car and hits it several times, but then her car stops...
Inge hits the hooligan car too, but her car also breaks down. Sandra
yells at her:"My car won't start anymore!" Inge:"Mine
neither."
So only the central car, the two hooligan cars and Walter and Marc
are left. One hooligan car almost knocks the central car, but Walter
manages to knock into it. Marc's front right wheel isn't turning anymore,
but he keeps on driving. Walter crashes into a hooligan car, which can't
drive anymore because of it. Only one hooligan car remaining, but it hits the
central car in the back. The central car turns around and drives off. Marc
and Walter come to the rescue, knocking into Inge's car along the
way. They both drive into the hooligan car, one on each side and thus blocking
him. They keep on pushing the gas pedal and none of them move. A lot of smoke
and dirt is flying through the air. Time's up and the two colour fields have
remained undamaged. They win 2,000 euro! They're all cheerful and everyone is
talking. The pot is up to 9,600 euro.
They have a long journey to make. From the port in Civitavecchia, they take the ferry to Cagliari in Sardinia. The next day they drive from to Nebida, the west coast of the island.
Day 9 - Nebida, Sardinia
It's high time to do the laundry. Sandra and Corry
will do that job. The others drive to the place they will sleep at.
On their way to the launderette, Corry unburdens herself to Sandra.
She feels ignored by Inge.
Corry:"I didn't like it. Every time I said something in the car,
I tried to talk several times, they don't listen to me. If you'd be sitting in
the back, I'm sure she would turn around and talk to you. I'm 100 % sure of
that."
In the other car they are discussing it too. The guys aren't in the car
(probably a stop somewhere) and Inge talks to Shadia.
Inge:"She told me she had told me two times in the car that only
the two of us were talking to each other and we weren't paying attention to her,
but I didn't hear her saying that."
Corry:"She usually ignores Shadia too." Sandra:"Shadia?" Corry:"But that's probably just the way she is."
In the other car again (which is now driving and the men are in it too): Inge:"And if she says my true face is showing, it's your character, then so be it." Marc:"Did she say that?" Inge:"Yes." Marc turn to Walter and says:"If someone says your true face is starting to show, it's difficult to make up with each other." Inge:"How do I have to feel about that? Maybe she feels excluded, but how should I feel?" Walter:"You have to talk about it to the person itself."
Corry:"But you can get to learn people that way. If not, everyone would like everyone." Sandra:"Yeah and that's impossible." Corry:"I appreciate it that she tells me how she feels about it. If she would just tell me 'That's the way I am.' I would also accept that."
Shadia:"It will probably be over in a while. She
could took about it and it will soon be over." Marc:"We'll
talk about it later on." Walter:"But just the three of
you then! I don't have anything to do with it and neither have Shadia and
Sandra. It's the blue car's fault." (the thing they are all talking
about happened in the car of Marc, Inge and Corry on their
way to Sardinia) Inge:"I don't have anything to do with it
either. I just suddenly get to hear it. I didn't even know what was going
on." Walter:"But we were in another car, what should we
meddle in that discussion?" Marc agrees.
They arrive at their sleeping place: at the ruins of an old industrial building.
They have to go down a long stairs in open air and will spend the night all the
way down. Also in open air, because the roof isn't on the ruins anymore. That
night, they will get another challenge there. There's a lot of wind and they say
it will be very cold. They hope it won't rain. They try to put up their
camp-beds, but Walter thinks a stick is gone and in another camp-bed too.
He wonders if it's The Mole's work.
After a while, Sandra en Corry arrive. Corry takes the long
stair down, sitting and moving step by step.
Stijn is also in Sardinia, in a village nearby. Just like the others, he
can phone home. He tells his girlfriend that he's all alone and separated from
the group, but that he won't say anything else. They all talk about things and
stuff. Walter aks his wife if she will come. They know that tommorw, they
will have visitors over.
It's dark and the host tells them it's time for a challenge. In
a tower nearby, a ball is hanging. It's conne
cted
to a magnet and sometime at night, the ball will drop. If they can catch it,
they win 3,000 euro. They have to stand underneath the ball alone and can
replace each other when they want to.
They are guarding the ball for some time. Shadia is standing there now
and she asks if someone can replace her, because her neck is aching.
They have received rations and drinks for the night.
Inge is standing under the ball now. Wind is blowing into the tower,
making the sand in the tower blow up. Inge:"It's impossible to
keep on standing here for 15 minutes. It's impossible with this sand flying in
your eyes."
Stijn is at a hotel, enjoying a meal and drinking some wine. "I wonder what the others are doing. Maybe some night game or something. I would feel guilty then. I'll have a great night's sleep!!"
Shadia:"I'm exhausted, I've got a headache, I
want to sleep and we have to try to catch this ball... but I don't think that'll
happen anytime soon, but we'll try. There was tension in the group today, which
is a pity. I think Corry feels bad about her leg, she can't do everything she
wants to do and she's a bit agitated. I think it bothers everyone a bit."
Marc is standing in the tower now:"It's a pity, but I'm
convinced we'll survive it."
Sandra in the tower:"I'm not going to meddle myself into it,
I'm going to keep to the side. But it's a bit annoying."
Corry in tower:"The negative point is that because of
exhaustion and all kinds of circumstances... some people... seem irritating and
I'm probably one of them."
It's 11:42 PM.
Walter in tower:"Tomorrow the visitors are coming. My mission for
'The Mole' will then be a success."
They have received glasses to protect their eyes from the sand
that's flying up. We see Corry standing with her arms crossed...
A while later, Walter is guarding the ball. Corry is outside and
tells him to yell when she has to take over.
It's 0:35 AM and Corry is sitting outside, the hood of her coat over her
head and wind blowing hard.
Walter:"Yeah, Corry, I'm tired of it." No reply...
Walter:"Corry?? I'm sick of it! I'm tired!"
Corry arrives.
Time ticks by... It's 2:03 AM.
Corry is standing in the tower again, arms crossed. Then Inge
comes to replace her. "Hey you're standing with your arms crossed?"
Corry says that there's enough time to reach out and catch the ball if it
drops.
2:17 AM.
Sandra is swaying her arms, trying to stay awake or keep warm or
something. Suddenly the ball drops!
The shot goes over to the others who, unaware that the ball has
just dropped, are trying to get some sleep.
Then we here Sandra:"I've got it!" and she comes
out with the ball under her arm. She tells the others it was easy to catch. They
win 3,000 euro and now have 12,600 euro in the pot.
Day 10 - Nebida, Sardinia
They are halfway their journey and halfway in their search of The
Mole.
Host:"Dear friends, one of the seven people still in the game, is The
Mole, who's apparently doing good work. Is it Inge?
Inge
who usually keeps herself in the background during challenges, but who is very
eager to buy off the exemption in the helicopter game."
flashback
Inge:"I'm not doubting. For me, the exemption can..."
Marc:"Stay?"
Inge:"Can be bought off."
"And in the question route, when she promotes the Canadian
province Quebec to capital city of Australia. Was that to slow down the group so
that the challenge would fail?"
flashback Inge:"Capital city of Australia? ... Isn't that Quebec?"

"How about Sandra? Who ignored Nicole's orders in Venice. And was the only one who systemetically kept on having radio problems."
flashback Nicole:"Sandra where are you, over? Sandra are you there or did you jump into a canal, over?"
"Or it could also be a coincidence, right Sandra?"

"But The Mole could of course also be Marc. He seems to be a good contestant, but for the group pot he's very expensive. He chooses personal money in the tube game."
flashback Marc:"They will feel bad for a while, but then I think 'Then you shouldn't have opened those tubes!"
"And why does he drag Corry along with him for so long during the question route game, knowing that it costs a lot of time?"
"Or
could The Mole be Shadia? Who was very eager to get to the bomb, but cut the
wrong wire."
flashback Shadia cuts the wire and the bomb explodes, covering Marc, Inge and Corry with paint.
"When Shadia tries to let others open the tube, is it because she, as The Mole, knows the consequences for it?"
flashback Shadia in episode one on the boat:"OK so if no one is in it for the money, why don't we just open it then? ... Shall I open it?" And she opens the tube.
"Or
is The Mole Corry? She got ten points from The Mole and made sure she kept the
sleepers awake by shooting several tens of bullets."
flashback Corry tries to hit a clay pigeon and shoots a lot of bullets. Shadia is awake and covers her ears with a pillow. Corry shoots again... and misses again. Corry:"Damn it!"
"Me personally, I don't doubt that ankle is really sprained. But supposed it isn't. What a genial move of The Mole to slow down the challenges and make them more difficult."
flashback of Corry entering the room on crutches after arriving from the hospital.

"Walter being The Mole, let's be honest, is very unlikely. Walter might even be the best contestant. He traveled an almost faultless way up to here. Give or take a few details... He lets a tube disappear now and then..."
flashback unseen footage of Walter in episode 2, who 'finds' Inge's tube. "It was laying here in the grass. I suggest we don't drink as much anymore in the evening!"
The other contestants surprisedly look at Walter. Inge:"Was it you?!" Marc:"Did you take away Inge's tube?!" Walter nods and puts his hands up in the air.
"And
then there's Stijn. Where is he when you need him? Stijn is a very intelligent
young man, who stuffs up every riddle you give him."
flashback Stijn (after coming out of his cell):"11, 108 and 26."
"And now he's resting somewhere. Maybe to prepare for new Mole sabotages?"
"This is all completely made-up of course. Except for one of you! Maybe we can make this short. If The Mole wants to unmask himself now?"
No one moves. Host:"No? Then we'll just continue."
They arrive at a mine, called Porto Flavia. They can win 6,000 euro with the challenge. To win it, they have to rely on someone else: Stijn. He's on the island in the sea. They can see the island. Stijn is close to a shelter on a military terrain. On the island, 5 safes are hidden. In the safe is a suitcase which can explode inside. If the safe is opened, time starts running. When time's up, the suitcase will explode inside. Two suitcases are empty, the other 3 contain 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 euro. For every suitcase, there's a riddle. Stijn has to tell the riddle to the others through walki-talki and they have to solve it and enter the correct answer in a pc. But the pc is on the other side of the mine, so they have to run through the mine and go down a deep shaft. If they enter the correct answer before time runs out, the timing on the suitcase stops. If they're not on time, or are incorrect, the suitcase explodes. There are five diskettes, numbered 1 to 5. One for each riddle, to check if the answer is correct.
The game starts and Stijn is looking for the safes. Corry
takes the walki-talki. Since there are five questions and six contestants
(excluding Stijn) she doesn't have to go through the mine and down the
shaft (again, because of her leg). They await Stijn's first riddle.
He finds number 2 and opens it. Time's running (20 minutes per safe). Stijn
reads the riddle:"Try to get as close as possible to the number 927 with
the following numbers. Here are the numbers..." Corry:"We're
listening." Stijn:"10, 10, 1, 2, 6 and 8. You can add,
substract, multiply and divide."
Inge:"Ok, 8 plus 1 is 9. Multiplied by 10 equals 900."
Marc:"No that's 90."
Stijn meanwhile searches for the other safes. A while later he tells
the others they have 10 minutes left. The closest they got to 927 is 921 and
they decide to just go for it and try it, instead of letting it explode without
even trying. Walter runs off to the mine.
Stijn opens safe 5:"Arrange the postcodes of the 7 remaining
players from old to young. Enter that number combination in the computer."
They doubt about Stijn's postcode, but can't ask Stijn,
because he is only allowed to tell them the questions. Shadia however
gets up with his postcode. But then they don't know Walter's postcode.
And he's gone, because he's trying to reach the end of the mine on time. He has
3 and a half minutes left. He goes down a shaft, runs out of the
"cave" and has to climb up a few stairs to reach the computer. He has
1 minute 43 seconds left as he enters '921'. He presses enter. Stijn
watches the suitcase explode. Walter and the others don't know if it's
right or wrong, because they are on another island.
The correct number they had to enter, is 926:
10 + 1 = 11
11 x 10 = 110
110 + 6 = 116
116 x 8 = 928
928 - 2 = 926
Inge left secondly. She's not allowed to write anything
down, so she had to memorize all the postcodes.
Stijn gives the others the next riddle. It's a riddle you need to know
the Dutch language for: 'twee vogels laten je erin trappen' (=Two birds make you
fall into it.) They have to add two birdnames together to find another word.
Inge is still in the mine. She left when she had about 11 minutes left
and now still has 4 minutes left. All the while she's repeating the postcodes to
herself. As she arrives at the computer (with 2 minutes and 20 seconds left),
she asks where Walter is, but he wasn't allowed to stay there and is
waiting somewhere else. She needed him for his postal code and now guesses it's
2800. It's wrong and the suitcase explodes. Inge:"I thought
Walter would be here. I've got it all right, except for Walter's."
Meanwhile, Corry suddenly finds the answer to the riddle: valkuil
(pitfall). 'Valk' is Dutch for falcon and 'uil' is Dutch for owl. So those two
together make 'valkuil'. Sandra runs into the mine to enter the answer.
They ask Stijn for the next question. He runs to the
nearest safe. "The question is: In which row does Belgium belong?
'Cyprus, Japan, India, United Kingdom' or 'Gibraltar, Argentine, USA,
Denmark?'."
They try to figure out everything. The colours of the flags of those
countries, whether they are islands or not,...
Sandra arrives at the computer with 4 minutes and 20 seconds to spare.
She enters 'valkuil' and the safe remains intact. Only later on they will find
out whether they won money with it or not.
There's 11 minutes and 30 seconds left for the other question. Shadia
runs off and will make a guess.
Stijn tells Marc and Corry the next question:"Arrange
the postcodes of the seven remaining questions from young to old." Corry
and Marc look at each other thoughtfully. Stijn:"I repeat,
from young to old." Then they get it, the other postcode question was
from old to young.
Shadia has 35 seconds left when she arrives, out of breath. She enters
the number 1 for the first row of countries. It's wrong. She was supposed to
enter all countries and not just number 1 or 2. The correct answer was row 2,
because in all those countries they drive on the right side of the road. In
Belgium too.
Marc is memorizing all postcodes. He has 7 minutes left when he starts
off. When he arrives at the computer, he has 50 seconds left. He enters the
postcodes, but says he doesn't know one of them. The suitcase explodes.
Stijn, on his island:"Damn. One correct and four wrong." He
also says he'd much rather be on the other island with them.
Again Walter's postcode was the cause of the mistake. Marc
arrives with the other people that have run through the mine and tells them they
asked for the postcodes again but in a different order. Inge already
talked about it with Walter now and so she knows the postcode now. Then
she asks Marc if he had been running. Marc:"Yeah."
Inge:"Aren't you out of breath then?" Marc says
he is and something about the last stairs being tough.
Corry is still outside. Alone. They go back to her and Walter
finds the other questions. He knows the answer to the riddle of the countries
who drive on the left/right side of the road.
Stijn is talking to the cameracrew:"I want to go back to the group, I'm starting to miss them. I really mean that! I'm starting to miss them!"
The others are taken to a table with all 5 suitcases on it. The
host opens the suitcase of the postcodes. It had exploded inside with paint and
the cheque in it is now invalid. Luckily there was only 0 euro on the check!
The other postcodes suitcase contained a check of 1,000 euro. But they had it
wrong and the cheque s also covered with paint, sot hey don't win the 1,000
euro. They can still win 2,000, 3,000 or another cheque of zero. The host
reveals the 'valkuil' suitcase they had correct. It has 2,000 euro in it! So
they win that amount.
The 3,000 euro was in the calculation suitcase (get as close to 927 as
possible).
The host then tells them that on the suitcase of the countries question (the
riddles were written on the suitcases) it said that they had to enter the entire
list of coutnries into the computer. So it's wrong. But it contains zero euro
anyway. Out of a possible 6,000 euro, they only won 2,000. However, it could
still become 6,000 euro! But depends on Stijn. He can get the remaining
4,000 euro into the pot if he gives up his exemption.
We see Stijn sitting in the lobby of a hotel and we hear his words again: "I want to go back to the group, I'm starting to miss them. I really mean that! I'm starting to miss them!"
Back in the house the others are at, they have gathered into the
living room and the host calls Stijn.
Stijn:"Hello, Stijn speaking."
Host:"Hi Stijn, this is Michiel. I'm calling you to make you an
offer. You could win 6,000 euro today with the challenge and your
fellow-contestants only succeeded in putting 2,000 euro into the pot. You can
make sure that the 4,000 they didn't win, can also be added to the pot if you
give up your exemption for tonight and come back to the group. That means you
will have to participate in the questionnaire tonight. You don't have to answer
now, I know you're in the neighbourhood. If you're here within 10 minutes,
you'll participate in the elimination tonight and add 4,000 euro to the pot. If
not, we'll see you tomorrow. Oke?"
Stijn:"Oke, bye bye Michiel."
So they play the waiting game... They talk about what he will
do. Sandra and Corry say they will be very surprised if he does
it. Marc:"Maybe to surprise us! Because he is an altruist."
Corry:"What's an altruist?" Marc:"Someone
who thinks about other people and about himself." Corry:"Oh
I'll have to write that down."
15 seconds left.
Inge:"He won't come." Walter:"I think he
will." Marc:"And you just said he wouldn't!"
Stijn does not arrive and they don't blame him.
Suspicions
Walter:"A few weird things have happened today. No one
knew my postcode, even though Inge and Corry remembered all postcodes the past
few days."
Corry:"We're halfway now and everyone can be a suspect or
not. I really don't know."
Shadia:"I think Inge could be The Mole, but I think she's too
emotional, I think The Mole can't be too emotional."
Inge:"This afternoon, Marc lost 3,000 euro by incorrectly
solving a riddle and he ran through the hall in a very strange way."
Marc:"The calculation problem, where I was 100 % convinced it
was correct, but it turned out to be wrong. But there is no one who corrected
me. There are more people who can count. I would find it a pity, especially
because the visitors are coming, so it would be very nasty if you get eliminated
now."
Walter:"It would be such a pity, really. I'm really looking
forward for the visitors to come tomorrow."
Sandra:"I find Stijn's reaction very logical. I would react
the same way. I think everyone would, that was very obvious in the group."
Inge:"I think the group has fallen apart. I don't think we're
all thinking the same of things anymore."
Suspicious in this episode
Walter lets the hooligan
car pass one time, which then damages one of the central car's colours.
Sandra and Inge's car get out of play during the second round.
We don't actually get to see Sandra catching the ball. Did she
accidentally let it drop, but in order to make her less suspicious, the crew
told her she could tell the others that she did catch it?
Walter, a postman, left first. Did he know there were going to be two
questions about postcodes?
Shadia entered a number instead of the whole row of countries. Or was it
that Stijn didn't tell them they had to enter the entire row?
Marc was convinced of the calculation question, which was wrong. He was
also quite slow in the mine.
Stijn doesn't give up his exemption in order to get 4,000 euro in the
group.
How convenient also that the group makes money now that Stijn is gone...
Elimination
Stijn
didn't give up his exemption for 4,000 euro. He'll be sure of a place in
the next episode. But who won't make it that far and won't have visitors over
either?
