Belgian Mole 3
Episode 1
Day 19 - somewhere in South-Europe
Host:"Who is The Mole? That's what it's all about. At the
end of last year, 10 people went on a trip to an unknown destination. They don't
know each other and the trip would almost last 3 weeks. During the trip they
will live together and have to do challenges together, but most importantly,
they have to keep an eye on each other. Because one of the ten is a traitor, a
saboteur who will try everything to try to let the challenges fail. You can only
survive if you're the quickest to find out all information about the identity of
The Mole."
Two months earlier, somewhere in Flanders,
Belgium
A video is playing, showing where the contestants live and what
they do. Someone is watching the videos as the host enters and tells the person
that they will leave soon and that he or she will play The Mole. He hands the
person an envelope with all information. The host informs the person that there
is 100,000 euro to win in this game and that he/she has to make sure that they
win as less as possible. Host:"If I leave, we won't have any further
contact anymore. We will meet again in an ancient South-European city. The
arrival of the first three contestant is immediately the beginning of the first
challenge. You have observed and studied the other contestants (hence the
videotape which is playing) You decide who will be the first three
contestants. I'd like to hear three names from you."
Day 1 - San Marco Square, Venice, Italy
There are a lot of people on the square. Suddenly the camera
zooms in on a lady with backpack.

Nicole Van Herck
41 years old
Employee
She stops in the middle of San Marco square and waits. Soon,
another woman arrives.

Sandra Welvaert
30 years old
Shop Manager
She walks up to Nicole and they shake hands and tell each
other their names. Then the third person walks up.

Inge Boere
35 years old
Veterinarian
She shakes hands with the other two women and tells them her
name. Sandra says she's not good with names. They start wondering whether
all contestants are women in this edition of The Mole...
A fourth person appears. It's the host, who tells them that The Mole chose them
to play the first challenge, because he or she thought they would never be able
to pull it off. Their challenge is to find the remaining 7 contestants, who will
be arriving in Venice in the afternoon. Venice is a maze of small alleys and
narrow canals. The three women are taken to a central place on the map. There
they see a didigital map of Venice. The remaining 7 contestants are carrying a
transmitter with a GPS. They are told to walk around in Venice and if they walk
within the big area which is on the map the girls have, a dot will appear on the
map. They have to try and find that person, before he or she disappears from the
map. The first contestant they find, wins them 150 euro. For each contestant
they find next, that money is doubled. So if they find all 7, they win 9,600
euro.
The girls get 4 walki-talki's, some compasses and maps. Sandra and Inge
suggest that Nicole stays in the building to read the digital map. They
test the walki-talki's. Sandra:"Natalie, natalie, can you hear
me?" Nicole:"My name is Nicole."
Sandra tells Nicole how it works and she tries. Sandra:"Yes
Natalie, ... I mean Nicole, I can hear you!"
Nicole test it with Inge:"Inge can you hear me?"
Inge:"Yes Sandra, over." Nicole:"I'm not
Sandra! And I'm not Natalie!"
They decide to select two points on the map so Sandra can
take one part of the map for her account and Inge the other one. The
challenge is about to start and Nicole seems to get nervous already. Sandra
doubts whether Inge put north, east, south and west correctly on her
map...
The two girls go their location. For now, time doesn't matter. They have time
until they have found all 7 contestants, or until they have disappeared from the
map. From then on, they have to get all contestants they found to the central
place within 15 minutes. If they don't make it back within 15 minutes, they will
not get the money for those persons.
Inge and Sandra are downstairs in an alley. Inge has
forgotten her compass and asks Nicole to bring it down, but Nicole
suggest she'll throw it to her through the window. She tries to throw it to Inge,
but it's not far enough and the compass drops into a canal...
The first dot appears north of the map! Nicole tells Sandra
where to go. She tells her the names of the street. Sandra finds it on
the map, but doesn't know where she is at the moment, so tries to orientate
herself.
Nicole:"He's at the Salvador Church now. He's going all the way
West!" She keeps on telling Sandra where to go, but she doesn't
reply. Nicole:"Sandra, come in, over." "Can you tell me
where you are, over." "Are you running into the right direction,
over?" "I hear nothing but static, I can't understand you."
"Sandra are you still there or did you jump into a canal, over?"
There's no reply and Nicole asks Inge to go find the person
too, even though it's not on her terrain. Inge doubts, but Nicole
persuades her and tells her where to go. Nicole:"Run run, you're
close! Go towards the water!" But the dot disappears and Nicole tells
Inge to go back to her section of the map. "Keep ready for the
next dot, over."
Suddenly there's Sandra again:"Yes, I can hear you again!
Sorry, Natalie, but I'm almost at the point where we agreed I would stand,
over." Nicole:"I'm Nicole, Sandra! Go back to that place
and wait for the next dot."
Sandra asks someone where she has to go to and suddenly, Inge
is behind her too:"Ooh, I'm in your section?!" She got lost and
was at the wrong place and has to go all the way back to her section now.
We see a person sitting in a boat. It's the next dot! Nicole
tells Inge to go find her and where to run to. Inge tells her
where she is, so Nicole can follow her on the map too. It's clear that
the dot is travelling on w
ater, because the 'road' is blue on the map, but
apparently, Nicole hasn't realised. Inge walk towards a bridge
over a canal. Nicole:"Oooh Inge you're very closely! You're going
to walk straight towards him! He's standing on the bridge right next to
you!!" The boat with one of the remaining contestants in, goes under
the bridge as Inge is standing on it. She looks around, but can't see
anyone. Nicole tells her to follow the canal. Inge runs over a
bridge as Nicole tells her the person is coming straight towards her. As Inge
crosses the bridge and runs into the next alley, the camera zooms in on the boat
with the contestant, which is coming towards the bridge. Inge didn't see
it. Only then does Nicole say that the person might be in a boat. Inge:"Tell
me clearly which street to go to, over!"
But then the third dot appears, so now there are two contestants on the map. Nicole tells Sandra where to go to, forgetting all about the other dot, which disappears off the map. Another contestant lost. Things are getting hectic and the third dot disappears too.
The fourth dot appears immediately after the other one left. Nicole
tells everyone where to go and Inge finds him!

Bruno De Roover
30 years old
cartoonist
Nicole tells Inge to bring him to the center base,
but Inge suggests to enlist Bruno too. But Sandra has the
fourth walki-talki. Three people are gone and they have found one.
Bruno suggests whether it's a good idea to go to Sandra and
collect the fourth walki-talki. Nicole tells Sandra that he's
coming over towards her to get that walki-talki and she says she'll wait for
him. Inge heard it too and goes to the exit of the builfing to wait for Bruno.
Nicole tells him how it works and where to go to. Inge (on
walk-talki):"Where's Bruno, it seems you're losing so much time,
over." Nicole:"I'm going to send Bruno to Sandra
to..." Inge:"I didn't see Bruno leave the building,
over?" Nicole laughs:"He's descending the stairs right
now..."
Inge wishes him good luck.
Three dots suddenly appear almost at the same time! Nicole
sends Inge towards one of the dots and Sandra towards the others.
Then Bruno finds Sandra and he gets the fourth walki-talki. He is
immediately told to go to Church Salvatore, but Bruno doesn't know where
he is. Sandra runs to it. There are two dots there. Sandra
suddenly finds one and the second one also arrives. Only one dot left, but it
disappears.
Sandra:"Nicole, is the game over? Do we have to get back to the
central base now, over?"
Nicole counts and finds out they have had all 7 contestants and that
she has to bring back to two persons Sandra has found.

Walter Sap
50 years old
Postman

Shadia Bellafkih
25 years old
IT Specialist
They now have 15 minutes to get back to the central base. Bruno
arrives with Inge. 150 euro is safe now, but if Sandra gets Walter
and Shadia back on time, they will have 600 euro. It takes her a while
and Nicole asks her where she is and tells her to hurry. They have 9
minutes left. Sandra is back at San Marco Square where they met up. Nicole
asks where she is, but they don't get any answer.... 6 minutes are left... 5
minutes... They start panicking, but she finally makes it back on time. Nicole:"I
thought you didn't know your way back!" Sandra:"I
didn't." Nicole:"Then why didn't you answer for 5
minutes?"
They have won 600 euro, but it could have been 9,600... The remaining four
contestants are taken to the location:

Christophe Grosjean
34 years old
Manager

Corry Deltour
39 years old
Employee
They apparently didn't know they were already involved in a challenge. Corry and Walter find out they're both from the same province and start talking in their dialect. Christophe apparently was the first dot that appeared on the map. He's surprised as he finds out the others were trying to find him.

Stijn Van Daele
22 years old
Student Sinology

Marc Simons
45 years old
Insurer

That evening, they go to the hotel and before dinner, the host has two presents for the contestants, a tube and a journal. They have to keep the tubes on them at all times and they are not allowed to open them until they are told so. If they don't have the tube with them when they are asked fot it, it will cost them 500 euro. If later on they find out the tube has been opened, it will cost another 500 euro. They can use the journals to write their information about The Mole. Of course, those things are valuable, so they'll have to keep an eye on it.
Day 2 - Venice
They have breakfast and leave Venice by boat. Some of them are
very interested in the tubes and its contents. They're talking about it on the
boat.
Shadia:"I am way too curious!"
Sandra:"What if we all open it at once?"
Corry:"Wait till after the challenge."
Bruno:"I guess there's something in it, which sticks to your
hands or something, so they can see you've opened it."
Christophe decide everyone should take their tube and on the count of
three, they will all open it. Only Walter, Shadia, Sandra
and Christophe participate in it. They count till three, but no one dares
to open it... except for Shadia. She open it, looks in it and closes it
again. They ask what's in it, but she doesn't want to tell them.
On their way to the next challenge, the car with Marc, Corry, Walter, Cristophe and Nicole has a lot of fun, mainly thanks to Christophe, who shows off his singing talent to the song Con Te Partiro. They all start singing along with the rest of the songs.
Mel, Italy
This challenge can win them 3,000 euro and it consists of 4
parts. One contestant has to solve a riddle, two people have to do a drawing
assignment, three people will do a sleeping assignment and three others have a
game of skill. One contestant has to do nothing. They decide who has to do what.
Shadia decides to do nothing, because she thinks something will be
connected with it. Stijn does the riddle. Inge and Bruno
will be drawing. Sandra, Marc and Corry will do the game of
skill and Christophe, Walter and Nicole will do the
sleeping assignment.
They have to win points in this game and those points are assigned to them by
The Mole. They can even watch it. The group has to sit at the other side of a
market place and one by one they have to go to the host. Each contestant is
asked a series of questions, except for The Mole. The Mole has to give points to
each contestant. As they're all going to the host one by one, Nicole asks
who can read lips. A while later, Inge notices that Stijn spent
most time with the host...
The Mole divided 46 points under the contestants. They get the points if they
succeed in their assignment. To win the money, they have to get a total of at
least 26 points. Here are the points:
Corry: 9
Nicole: 8
Walter: 7
Shadia: 6
Sandra: 5
Marc: 4
Inge: 3
Stijn: 2
Bruno: 1
Christophe gets zero points.
They can still exchange two people if they want. They think that the person who
has to do nothing (Shadia) won't be able to win any points, so they
exchange Christophe with Shadia. He will do nothing and she will
do the sleeping assignment now.
Stijn
is first. He has to try to solve the riddle and can win 2 points with it.
There are three switches. One of them is connected to a lightbulb in another
room. He has to find out which switch turns the light on. But he can only go to
the other room to see if the light is burning just once. How can he be 100 %
sure which switch turns on the light.
Stijn is thinking... "This is nothing for me..." He decides to turn on switch 1 and 3. He goes to the other room and the lightbulb is burning. The host asks him if he can tell him with absolute certainty which switch makes the light go on. He says he can't, because it's fifty-fifty. The first two points go down the drain.
But what was the correct way to solve it? You hit switch 2 (for example) and wait a while. Then you turn off switch 2 and put on switch one and go watch in the other room. If the light is burning, the correct answer is switch 1. If it's not burning, but when you touch the lightbulb, it feels warm, it's switch 2. If the lightbulb is still cold, it means it hasn't been lit just then and then the correct answer is switch 3.

In
the next assignment, Christophe and Stijn are not allowed to
participate. Inge and Bruno have to draw 5 of the other
contestants, without drawing the way those contestants look. The remaining six
have to try and guess who they are drawing. This should be an easy assignment,
since Bruno is a cartoonist. But he and Inge only got 1 and 3
points respectively. They have to pick five cards to see who they have to draw.
The first person they have to draw is Inge herself. Bruno draws
and Inge gives him instructions. They draw a stethoscope, with a dog that
gets an injection. As Bruno starts drawing the stethoscope, Nicole
says it's the lightbulb from Stijn's riddle. But they wait and clearly
see it's a veterinarian. They know it's Inge.
Next, they have to draw Sandra. She owns a jeans shop, so they draw a
jeans. The others quickly understand.
Shadia is the third person they have to draw. They make a computer. Shadia
notices it first and also comments Bruno on his drawing skills.
Next up is Corry. They start thinking about what to draw for her. Inge:"What
has she been complaining about all day?" Since she works (or used to
work?) in a crematory, they draw a tomb. The others understand it's Corry.
Last person to draw is Marc. They find it difficult, because his
profession is insurer. Bruno draws a collision between two cars and then
a piece of paper and Marc understands it's a policy and that he was
drawn.
Outside, they are discussing who was drawn in which order and most of the women
are talking through each other, but come up with the correct order. 4 points
won! This means the others have to succeed in their challenges to win the money.
For
the game of skills they first have to climb over a difficult wall and
next have
to shoot 5 clay pigeons amongst them. Each contestant has to hit at least one
clay pigeon. But right in the room next to where they have to shoot the clay
pigeons, the other three have to do their sleeping assignment. They have to
sleep a total amoun of 30 minutes together. Both groups get one hour to do the
challenge. Marc, Corry and Sandra try to get over the wall.
There's a rope hanging on it, but they don't really get over it. Marc
helps Sandra get a bit higher, by letting her stand on his back. She
climbs up a bit, but then falls and knocks Marc on the back. Next, Corry
stands with one foot in Marc's hands, who pushes her up. Corry in
her turn tries to push Sandra over the wall. But it doesn't work.
The three people who have to sleep, get wires attached to them, which registrate the REM sleep they are in. Before getting in bed, Nicole finds whiskey and pours it in for her and Walter. Shadia doesn't want any. They all get ready and go to bed.
Meanwhile, Sandra has climbed up on the wall. The other
two still have to get over. Corry is getting tired. But she still helps Marc
up the wall. Only Corry is left. She tries and tries. And falls and
falls... The others are watchi
ng them from afar. Inge:"It has to
do with power. She has to lift herself up using only her arms... and she got 10
points for that!"
She keeps on trying and knocking herself to the wall. She can't get over the
wall, so Sandra and Marc decide to go shoot some clay pigeons. As Sandra
is shooting, we see irregularities appear in the REM sleep of the other three. Shadia
wakes up and turns around. Sandra hits two clay pigeons and Marc
tries next. It takes him a while, but he manages to hit two after some time.
Only Corry has to hit one more, but she has to get over the wall first.
They get an idea: they tie the rope around Corry and both of them pull
her up from the other side. It works! Corry heads to the clay pigeon
shooting. She asks if it's a good idea to wait, so the others can try to get
some sleep. Marc tells her to try anyway. There's 23 minutes left as she
starts shooting, but it takes quite a while until she finally hits a clay
pigeon. Their assignment has succeeded and they win 19 points with it. They have
a total of 23 points now, so all is in the hands of the sleeping team.
That evening, the sleeping patterns have been checked and the
host announces the results:
Shadia slept for a total of 25 minutes! Everyone applauds and is
cheerful, because they only need 30 minutes to succeed!
Nicole has slept for... 30 seconds. So it's in Walter's hands. He
has slept 2 minutes. They slept a total of 27 and a half minutes and the
challenge is a failure...
The Mole apparently gave great points to everyone. They all start thinking about their suspicions. There are 5 main suspects already.
Nicole
CC
Inge:"All weird things that happened, had something to do with
Nicole. In every single thing that went wrong, I can place Nicole."
Bruno:"One of the first things I noticed was that she always
put a notepad or a walki-talki on the digital map, while I thought we were
supposed to keep everything clear so we could see the dots appearing on the
map."
Corry:"And then today that sleeping test, where she only
slept for a minute. Or not even a minute, it was 30 seconds."
Stijn
CC
Marc:"Stijn is a very smart guy. When we saw the riddle, we
thought 'How do you have to solve that?'. But he could see it for real, so you
have to be able to think about the lightbulb being hot or not."
Sandra
CC
Nicole:"I immediately thought something wasn't right with her
yesterday. Sandra couldn't find north, even though it was very easy and clearly
on the map." flashback:
Sandra:"I don't know where I am now, so I have to orientate
myself first." Nicole:"You always turn your map
when you are changing directions and then you always now where north is."
Christophe
CC
Stijn:"He's a really great guy, but at some times you see him
laughing out loudly and then all of the sudden he's got this kind of look on his
face... it's like you see the real Christophe for a while then."
Corry
CC
Sandra:"She can suddenly react in a very different way than she
did a few moments before. I find that very strange with her. And that 10 too,
today with those points... like... she gets a 10..."
The other five aren't suspected by the others as of yet. Every
night, the contestants can sit in front of a confession camera to say anything
they want, without the others being able to hear it. (From now on confession cam
will be abbreviated to CC)
Nicole:"They told me this is the confession room, so I'm supposed
to confess something here, but I'm very honest, I have nothing to confess."
Stijn:"They estimate my intelligence quite well apparently. I
had to solve the riddle, but it was already over after 5 minutes, because I
didn't understand it."
Christophe:"I think that today The Mole put me out of play.
They tell me The Mole thinks I'm very strong and that's why he didn't let me
play."
Corry:"We didn't win any money today, people. It's not my
fault, I got over the wall!"
Walter:"The atmosphere is great. We haven't been to the bar
yet, maybe that'll come. (yawns) I'm a bit tired."
Shadia:"I guess it will get easier as the group becomes
smaller, because ten people is a bit too much to have a good contact with each
other."
Day 3 - Cortina D'Ampezzo
They drive to the next location. The people of the car with Christophe
in it is singing songs again.
They arrive and go to gorge on a bridge. They have to parallel over the gorge on
the ropes to get to the other side. They get an hour and a half to do so and all
have to get to the end. But they have to wear a heart rate monitor. If their
heart rate is above 130, they have to stop until it's below 130. If anyone can't
get their heart rate below 130, they can go across, but it will cost 15 minutes.
Christophe goes first. Somewhere halfway he has to stop, because his
heart rate is too high. He keeps on talking to the others and says it's not
working. He decides to go across, which costs 15 minutes. Together with the 5
minutes he spent on the ropes, they have 70 minutes left.
Stijn goes next. He takes a few steps and has to stop already. Christophe
tries to give the others advice on how to do it, while Stijn tries to get
his heart rate under control. He manages to do so and gets across. He tells the
others to just be calm. He thought about his girlfriend and about Tai Chi... Bruno
is imaging that he's only standing on a step of 2 feet high. Corry is
singing to herself.
Sandra goes next. There's 63 minutes and 30 seconds left and her heart
rate is above 130, so she has to stop. But she can quickly continue again.
Shadia gets across too. There's 53 minutes left.
Walter goes on the ropes and has to stop too. 50 minutes left. Bruno
is getting nervous... Christophe tells him he doesn't have to do it if he
doesn't want to.
Walter made it and Nicole is on the ropes now. 45 minutes left.
She makes it safely
and Corry is next. She has to wait a while... 40 minutes left, but then
makes it across and Marc follows. He keeps his eyes closed. They have 34
minutes left when he starts. Meanwhile, the rest is trying to calm down Bruno,
who is afraid of heights.
28 minutes and 40 seconds left as Inge goes on the ropes. It seems she
has cried... She makes it across safely.
Bruno is the last one to go. It's all in his hands now. He walks up to
the ropes. He's staring at the ropes. "I... I don't think I'm going to
do it." Stijn comes up to him to talk. He says he doesn't have
to do it. Inge tells him to try and stand on the rope, just to test. If
he wants to quit, he still can. Nicole tells him to get off, she doesn't
like to see him so scared. He finally decides to do it and immediately takes the
15 minutes penalty, because there's still enough time left. Everyone watches as
he gets across. With 7 minutes and 4 seconds left, he makes it. They win the
5,000 euro and now have 5,600 euro.
Suspicions
Marc:"There have been several things people have done
wrong. In the search for example, two ladies who tried to find us. The sleeping
assignment... Walter says he had been sleeping all the time, but he nearly slept
anything at all. Stijn had quite an easy riddle, I thought. Some possible
suspects."
Christophe:"I have two suspects. Well actually, I've got
five, but I don't want to bet on five people. So I don't know if they are the
right ones, but I'm going to play on two people."
Bruno:"I now have Walter as my Mole, but he was one of the
people who helped me over the bridge. But that could be a strategy."
Walter:"Christophe went first. He only went one meter and
started shaking already and I think that shaking was an act."
Nicole:"First I thought 'Nah it couldn't be Stijn.' but he
has been so in the background the last days, so he could be it after all."
Stijn:"At the moment I think sandra is the contestant with
the most potential to be The Mole. I have no evidence or fact, it's pure
intuition."
Inge:"This morning I have been writing in the journal... and
reading it and watch at all actions over the past few days again. It's so
difficult, because you don't know what to look for."
Shadia:"It's exciting. One of us has to go and I hope it
won't be me. If it is me, we'll see."
Sandra:"I already said to myself that I can't win. I can't
watch all those details, I just can't win. But I do want to stay in for at least
a week and a half!"
Christophe:"I would be sad, but I get over it quite quickly.
If it's me, it's me, then I'll go to my next challenge, whatever that may
be."
Corry:"I want to stay longer. I want more adventure and I
want to find him!"
Suspicious in this episode
Nicole throws
a compass in the canal.
Sandra loses radio contact quite often.
Inge only finds one person and doesn't see Corry who's in the boat
when she's standing on the bridge.
Christophe, Corry, Marc and Stijn weren't found.
Shadia opens her tube, even though she knows it will cost 500 euro.
Stijn couldn't solve the riddle.
Walter had only slept 2 minutes. Later on in
his confession cam he says he's tired...
Nicole volunteered to be in the sleeping team, because she didn't sleep
much the night before. In the challenge, she only slept 30 seconds...
Christophe and Bruno took the 15 minutes penalty.
Christophe, Stijn and Nicole told Bruno not to the
ropes challenge if he didn't want to. But that would cost them the challenge.
Elimination
Time for the first person to leave the game. The first time it's
mostly a lottery, because it's hard to know who The Mole is from just three
days... Who will go first?
