Belgian Mole 3
Episode 2

Christophe, the group's entertainer, was the first one to leave the game. There
was a lot of confusion. Everyone had reasons to suspect everyone. They knew very
well that after two days someone would have to go home again. Only person
doesn't need to worry about the: The Mole.
Day 4 - Terni, Umbria (Italy)
It's 6:30 AM. Marc is already up and swimming in the pool.
The host knocks on the bedroom doors of the others and tells them to get outside
within 3 minutes. Everyone is still sleepy, but they go outside.
The host asks them to show the tubes. Corry taped it to her leg and takes
it.
Sandra tells the host she lost the tube. The host has a surprise for her.
He's got her tube and received it from The Mole. Because Sandra was so
uncareful and couldn't show her tube when asked, it costs the group 500 euro. Corry,
Nicole, Walter, Marc, Stijn, Bruno and Shadia
do have the tubes on them. However, Inge doesn't have it and says she's
lost it too. The host tells her he hasn't received the tube either... Someone is
making himself suspicious. This also costs 500 euro. So 1,000 is deducted from
the 5,600 they had. The pot now stands at 4,600 euro.
10:45 AM
The host tells them there are two challenges for today. For the first one he
needs 2 all-rounders. They have to be clever, physically alright, but above all
they have to be able to judge people well. Marc says that judging people
is something for women. Two people are chosen:

Sandra
Walter
They are taken to the local library for a challenge, worth 2,000
euro. They have to find the super contestant. All contestants had to do several
tests in Belgium before the game started. They had to do a physical test
(running mostly), a test which tests their emotional stability and an IQ test. Walter
and Sandra have to find out which contestant scored best on all three of
those tests. They can not only watch videos of those tests, but also get
personal pictures and school reports of the contestants.
They have to make a top three for every category (physique, EQ (Emotional
Quotient) and IQ (Intelligence Quotient) ) by putting the pictures of the
contestants they think score best, on a board. Then the host will grade it using
the Master Mind principle (white means they have the correct person, but on the
wrong place; black means they have the right person on the right spot). They
watch some tapes of the test. They see Shadia running on a treadmill. We
also see some shots of the IQ test:
Woman:"What's a thermometer?"
Corry:"A thermometer? Ehm... it's a device... to..."
Woman:"What kind of shape does a
ball have?"
Nicole:"A sphere..."
Woman:"Which day comes after
Saturday?"
Walter thinks for a while and then says:"Sunday..."
Sandra and Walter laugh when they see it.
Woman:"What's the Koran?"
Corry:"The bible of
Marocco??"
The two keep on laughing. Sandra says she's not playing her tape,
because she doesn't want Walter to see it.
Woman:"How many degrees does a
circle have?"
Stijn:"... none?"
Sandra:"I thought he knew everything!"
Meanwhile, the others are on their way to their assignment. In
the car, they think the challenges are linke
d together.
It's a challenge for 4,000 euro. They have to enter an old abandoned factory,
find a bomb and disarm it. They get two hours to do so. To find the bomb, they
have to find ways to get around the obstacles to get to the next room. They have
to use their brains in order to get ahead. There's a red line on the floor,
leading to a mirror with bowling pins on it. Nicole notices that there's
a hole behind it. They search through the room and Inge find a bowling
ball and a baseball bat. She throws the ball to the mirror, which breaks. Stijn
destroys the mirror with the baseball bat and they can continue to the next
room. They follow the red line, but then find out the line goes up through a
hole in the ceiling and two ropes hanging from it. They have to climb up
somehow. Inge doesn't think she'll manage to get up there...
The other two are also still working on their assignment. They
look into Stijn's school report. It's all 9 and 9,5 on 10. They find a
picture of Stijn when he was younger. The picture seems to have been made
in a sports school... they watch his tape again and see him running and getting
a heart rate of 205 b/m. Sandra thinks that's not good. Walter
says if you can get such a high heart rate, you can go deep.
They also think Marc was good, physically.Walter says that they
also have to look at the age. Someone can run well for his age and thus can be
physically better than a younger person, even though that younger person runs
faster. It's based on a different coefficient. They found a photo of Nicole,
playing in a volleyball team. But Walter says they have to look at how it
is at this moment and not how they were back then.
Sandra:"And Corry also had 8 out of 10 on sports at school."
Walter:"She also does aerobics."
They decide on their top 3 for physique: 1. Walter 2. Marc 3. Stijn.
They have all three people correct and one is on the right spot.
Meanwhile, Marc, Stijn and Corry have
reached the ceiling through the big hole, using the ropes and helping each
other. Inge is trying now. She's scared, but everyone helps her and she
gets up. They step through an open window into the next room. Next to the
window, there's a ladder... but no one notices it and they don't use it to get
the remaining two people up (Bruno and Nicole). Inge goes
through the window first and looks around. Stijn follows and quickly
points at th red line and follow, leaving the ladder behind... They go up a
stairs and the red line stops at a home trainer. Shadia is trying to get
up the ceiling and Corry goes to find Stijn and Inge and
tells Marc to yell when they need any help. The three investigate the
next room and decide to run on the home trainer.
Shadia has almost reached the top, using the ropes. Marc tries to
pull her up, but can't do it alone. He yells back at the others for help, but
they don't hear him.
Stijn is running on the home trainer and a red laser appears. They find
some mirrors and a magnifying glass and since the line stopped at the home
trainer, they think they have to connect the laser back to the red line. But
nothing happens. Stijn:"Guys, I'm not going to run for three
hours, ok?"
90 minutes left and Bruno and Nicole give up and the others
continue.
Sandra and Walter put their second top three on the 'physique' board: 1. Marc 2. Walter 3. Stijn. They get three white dots, meaning none of the pictures is on the correct spot! They decide to put Stijn on the number one spot, then Marc and Walter third. It's completely correct!
The other group finds a reflector with a piece of paper on i
t
'15 sec.'. They guess they have to aim the laser on it for 15 seconds. But there
are a lot of obstacles and they have to break the laser 4 times to aim it to the
reflector. Corry however, still believes they have to connect the laser
where the red line ends at the home trainer. Marc is running and the
others try to aim the laser to the reflector, using the mirrors and magnifying
glass. Stijn is at the end and the laser is shaking a lot, so he can't
aim it.
They start another discussion and Corry still persists in her idea, but
the others want to try the reflector first. Then Bruno arrives. He was
able to climb the ropes on his own and get up. They all admire him for it,
because he has such fear of heights. They let him run and try to aim the laser
again. Nicole is still behind. Alone.
Sandra and Walter search for the best EQ person. Walter suggests Corry, but Sandra says Corry is too emotional. She says Shadia is one of the top three too. They also think Marc because he's an insurer. They go over every person and discuss them.
They finaly succeed in aiming the laser to the reflector for 15
seconds and a door opens. They go to the next room and find a pair of scales with
a piece of paper saying 'minimum 200 kg'. That's three persons who have to stand
on the scales to open the door. They draw lots to see who goes to the bomb. Inge,
Marc and Corry stay behind. Stijn, Shadia and Bruno
go to the bomb. They find a suitcase and open it. In it is a (fake) book called
'Dismantling bombs for dummies'. It says that in 20 minutes, the bomb will
explode. They have to cut one of the 10 wires. In order to find which wire, they
have to solve two riddles. They see a number pad in the suitcase, without
numbers on it. They have to find out which number is standing where, by putting
it in a grid in such a way that the sum of each row (horizontally and
vertically) equals 15:
2
? ?
?
? ?
? no 3 here ?
They need this grid to enter a number. The number they have to enter is the sum
of the age of all contestants on the first spring day in 2003 (the series
was taped in 2002). If they solve the riddles wrongly, the wrong wire will light
up. If it's correct, the right wire will light up. Stijn searches the
numbers in the grid and the rest starts yeling at the other three to ask the
people's ages.
Sandra and Walter have found the EQ and are now
trying to find the top three in IQ. They watch the IQ tests tapes:
Woman:"... if she takes one of them, without
looking, what..."
Shadia (laughs):"I'm not
following you already!!"
Walter says she won't be in the top three, because she's not
concentrated enough. They look at Nicole's school report. She has 90 %. Walter
thinks she knows a lot and they watch the tape:
Nicole is trying to make some kind of puzzle. But
she pushes it aside. "There's no point in doing this. It's a waste of
time, I'm sorry."
They know Stijn is very smart and
put him first.
Inge and Marc have heard about the number grid the
others have to solve and try to solve it too. Meanwhile Shadia is yelling
at him to asks his date of birth. Everyone is talking and yelling through each
other. They also need Christophe's date of birth. They think he's 34.
Stijn has found the riddle:
2 9 4
7 5 3
6 1 8
Now they know where the numbers stand.
Shadia needs Walter's date of birth. Marc doubts whether
he's 50 or from the year 1950. They're all hectic and yelling. Shadia
comes up with the number 353. Inge, Marc and Corry can
follow what's happening on a small monitor in their room and are standing around
it.
Stijn enters 353. A wire lights up and they want to cut it. Shadia:"Hang
on, it doesn't say what happens if you cut the wrong wire!" Stijn:"Then
it will explode." Shadia cuts the wire...
For a few seconds, nothing's happening. Marc, in the other room (looking
at the monitor with the other two) asks what's happening. Then BANG! A bomb
explodes in their room spraying red paint all over them. They scream and are
covered with paint. Challenge failed...
Suddenly we see footage where the contestants are asked in an
interview whether they could play The Mole.
Woman:"Could you play The Mole yourself?"
Inge:"Yes." (nodding her head)
Marc:"I guess I would be a subtle Mole if I were The Mole."
Shadia:"I think I would feel very guilty and betray
myself."
Nicole:"Playing a little show? Winding people around your
finger, misdirecting them..."
Corry:"I have thought about it too. I would be myself and
play a game, but it would be emotionally challenging."
Bruno:"I think I'm good at hiding my feelings and
ideas."
Stijn:"I guess it would be at my
advantage that I'm so enthusiastic and young. I don't think they would expect me
being able to play The Mole. With your support, it would definitely work."
Sandra and Walter silently watch the video and are very
intrigued by it...
The other contestants arrive, some still covered with paint.
They can tell the other two what happened to them a
nd
they tell Sandra and Walter about the bomb. Bruno asks Walter
how old he will be on 21st March 2003. Walter says 51. They thought it
was 52. Nicole says she knew that, but she couldn't help, because she was
downstaris, trying to get up on the rope. Nobody bothered to ask her if she
knew...
The host explains that Sandra and Walter had to find the super
contestant. The picture of the super contestant is behind a curtain. Sandra
and Walter think Marc is the super contestant. He has to take off
the curtain and reveal who is the real super contestant. Marc steps
forward, takes away the curtain and behind it is his own picture! They win 2,000
euro, bringin the total up to 6,600 euro.
That evening, the others get a chance to look through the
information and videotapes Sandra and Walter could look through
too. That way they can add information to their suspicions. They're all looking
through it.
Shadia thinks she looks really weird on the videotape.
Corry and Nicole are in the room, going through the things. Corry
looks at a file of Nicole and says:"Nicole, you're The Mole, so I
don't have to take a look at that." Nicole laughs:"That's
easy."
Inge wants to watch her own tape. Shadia and Stijn also
watch. They all think she looks horrible on it and compliment that she looks a
lot better in real life. They go watch Stijn's video. They hear him say "I
find that humor is very important in life." All three of them
laugh.
Corry finds out they put her worst school report in the documentation. A
while later, Bruno and Corry are looking through Marc's
file. Bruno thinks he has changed a lot through the years. Then they
discover pictures of him, which are taken in Venice. Corry finds it
strange that they were in Venice and there are pictures of Marc in Venice
in the file... Bruno says it's just a coincidence.
Later, Marc and Corry are in the room. She asks him who he thinks
is The Mole. He says some people are more suspicious than others, but doesn't
give any names. He then asks if they're going to watch his video. Corry:"Nah,
you're not my Mole. I wrote everything down from you already."
Corry:"There's another elimination tomorrow." Marc:"Every
two days." Corry:"I don't want to go tomorrow..."
Day 5 - Narni, Umbria (Italy)
They arrive next to a cornfield. In the field next to it, there's
a helicopter waiting for them and a coutner, which has 5,000 euro on it. When
the game starts, the counter starts running and they lose 1 euro per second. The
counter stops when they leave with the helicopter, which takes off when there's
at least 3 of them in it, or at most 4. They have to get to the helicopter, but
there are 4 hunters in the game who will try to shoot them out with paintball
guns. It could be important for them to get in the helicopter, because the
people who can get in the helicopter are taken somewhere else, where they will
play for an exemption. They get 15 minutes to get up with a strategy. Bruno
says they have to sacrifice some people to lure the hunters that are on
motorcycle. There are two hunters on motorbike and the other two are on a quad.
The players get 2 paintball guns to protect themselves. They try to split up in
2 teams, but guess they won't stand a chance against the motorbikes. Time's
nearly up and Shadia says they don't have a strategy at all.
They start off at 2 kilometers from the helicopter. They can hide in the
cornfield and in the bushes, which is off limits for the hunters. The challenge
starts... They split up in a group of 4 and one of 5.
Inge gets hit and has to stay put till the helicopter leaves.
Marc shoots a guy on a motorbike and clears the way for Sandra and
Shadia. Another motorcycle arrives and MArc tries to shoot it, but
misses. The guy doesn't shoot back.
On the other end of the bushes, Nicole is hit and taken out.
Stijn has the heli in sight and makes a run for it. Once in the white
circle aroudn the heli, the contestants are safe. Stijn makes it! But Shadia,
who's standing somewhere else, gets hit in the face.
Corry runs and hides behind a haystack. Bruno is near Shadia
and she instructs him to wait, until it's safe for him to go. Then she yells:"Yeah
now, go go go!!" Bruno runs to the circle. Although... he's not
really running. He's moving very slow.
Corry suddenly falls and starts screaming out loud and waving with her
napkin. Walter asks if she has broken her foot. She has.
Bruno is still on his way to the helicopter. He lies down, because
there's a motorbike near. Then he gets up and runs to the circle. Stijn
cheers:"I thought you were hit, you were walking so slowly!"
Marc gets hit.
Walter has left Corry behind and makes it to the heli, tumbling
into the circle. The three men decide to leave. Walter tells the other
two that Corry has broken her
foot,
but that he left her behind. "Maybe it's hard of me..." They
get into the helicopter and are ready for takeoff. But then suddenly, out of
nowhere, Sandra arrives and knocks on the window of the heli. They let
her in and the helicopter leaves. The counter stops at 2,527 euro. They win that
amount for the pot, which is now at 9,127 euro. They fly to another location,
where one of them can win an exemption.
The host tells them that they each have to vote for someone they want to give
the exemption to. If a majority comes out, that person gets the vote. If there
is no majority, the exemption will go to one of the five that didn't make it to
the helicopter.
Four of those five (Corry isn't with them) are in the car, driving to the
next destination and discussing the challenge. Inge says that she'd
rather wanted that the challenge had failed, so no one had an exemption. "I'm
not here for the money. You have more chance to stay in the game if the
challenge fails." Marc agrees.
The four who made it to the helicopter don't want one of the others to get the
exemption. They draw lots to see who can get it.
Walter:"I feel that one of us earns the exemption, because we
made it to the helicopter."
Host:"While one of the others sprained her ankle, trying to make
this challenge a success."
They don't know what to say for a few seconds. Walter:"But
then you're being sentimental. And in the end it's a tough game." They
write the names down and Stijn draws a name. Walter wins the
exemption! Although the others can also make a decision. They can buy the
exemption off of him with the money they won with this challenge..
Marc, Inge, Nicole and Shadia are
told that the others played for an exemption, but that they can undo it, by
letting the 2,527 euro go. Shadia says the others deserved it. Nicole
is thinking. They decide to vote for it. Inge says she wants to buy the
exemption off. The four from the helicopter can watch them from afar. Walter
is getting nervous.
A decision has been made and they go to the four to tell them about it. The four
tell the others that they drew names and that Walter won.
Marc says that they weren't there for the money, but for the game and
that they unanimously decided to buy the exemption off. Walter has lost
his exemption again. He expected it. Apologies are given to him instead of the
exemption...

Later that day, a car arrives. Corry is back from
hospital. As she gets out of the car, we see her right leg is in a plaster. She
has to wear it for 20 days... Will she be sent home?
The host says it's possible and that it's a first time ever in The Mole to have
a contestant on crutches. She can stay in the game. As she enters the house they
are staying at, the others applaud her.
Suspicions
Corry:"I's become clear to me that I'm thinking too much and
have watched too many movies, but I'm sticking to my first thought:
Nicole."
Inge:"Euhm... Marc... is not a suspect at all too me. Neither
are Corry and Shadia."
Sandra:"I'm 200 % sure now that it's not Walter. It might as
well be a young person."
Stijn:"Nicole has been added to my list of suspects. Again, I
don't know why, I have no real fact of course, but she could be able to play it,
I'm sure of that."
Bruno:"Since five minutes ago I'm suspecting Shadia. I think
she has a hand in decisions that are made in the group."
Shadia:"Marc is a strong personality. I guess with his
profession and his capacities you can do some things easier."
Marc:"I think the last two days The Mole has entered the
group. With the tube game and things like that."
Corry:"We're laughing a lot and trying to make ourselves
suspicious. And watching each other."
Inge:"Walter is disappointed, that was very obvious."
Walter:"If I had been in the other group, I would be one of
the losers and then I would grant the winners the exemption."
Inge:"He thinks that I'm the main reason to let it come so
far. I'm sure of that. And it's true."
Nicole:"Everyone says they are social and will do anything
for the group, but in fact everyone tried to make sure they were the one being
in the helicopter. So everyone is working for themselves."
Bruno:"They all say that they were glad they weren't the
first one to leave the game. And now they hope they won't be the second one to
leave the game and then afterwards they'll probably say they don't want to be
the third one to leave. And that's the way it is."
Suspicious in this episode
Sandra at first
says Stijn is not good at sports. Later it turns out he was the number
one in that category.
Nicole doesn't get through the hole in the ceiling. She knew Walter's
correct age, but couldn't tell them, because she stayed behind and couldn't
continue.
Corry keeps on persisting in her idea to aim the laser at the home
trainer, which was wrong.
Shadia and Bruno came up with the wrong number for the bomb.
Inge, Marc, Nicole and Shadia get shot and buy the
exemption off, losing the money they won in that challenge.
Corry has to wear a cast around her leg for the rest of the game. How
convenient to slow everyone down...
Elimination
A lot happened in this episode. Will the super contestant stay? Did Walter
need the exemption? Will Corry be put out of play, because of her cast?
Find out:
