The Mole: In Paradise
Episode 8

Kris got eliminated and left a group of twenty-somethings behind.

Last episode, Shaun found a note in the police van... It appears to be a note with instructions from the producers to the Mole.

Shaun:"I was escorted to the back of the police wagon and I got in and there was a folded piece of paper on the seat, between the cushions. As any person would, I picked it up."

Shaun read the note in the police van when Petrina arrives. she reads it too.
CC
Petrina:"The note said something about Ali and I were on the right track. It seemed like it was directed to the Mole, like 'Ali and Petrina are on to you!'"
Shaun:"Ali and Petrina's names were on the top of the list stating that 'They know who you are.' and to try to put them of the scent if possible."

The note indicates that Alison and Petrina are genuin contestants and that therefor neither of them is The Mole. But is it real or is it a fake note?

Alison:"I heard that Shaun found a piece of paper with my name and Petrina's name on it... but that's all I heard. I asked him about it and he just said 'Who told you that?' "
Shaun:"The main thing is knowing if it's legitimate or if it's planted by an extremely clever contestant with resources to make something like that."

The note makes everyone a suspect, because they were all in the van. But the question remains: Is it real or fake?

Shaun:"Whether or not it is a legitimate paper, I don't know, but it got me through last night so I'm going to stick with it and see how things go from here."

Day 16 - New Caledonia
They go to a dam. On the dam wall are five black boxes. Each contains a memory chip, which has a photograph on it. Each photograph is a clue. There are five clues that will lead them to the money: $10,000. They have to absail from the dam and try to get the clues. Each contestant is only allowed to get one box.
The dam is 75 meters high. The three guys have already done something like this before, but for the girls it's the first time. The host tells them that they are able to buy one clue, so if anyone doesn't want to absail down the dam, he can give up and buy the clue. But no one gives up. They get one hour to get the clues and go to the money.
Nathan goes first.

Nathan:"Well I had absailed before in school, but nothing like that. It's alright once you get over that overhang, but that's the weirdest part, letting yourself drop back and realizing the rope is the only thing you can hold on."

Nathan has to walk on the wall to the left and right to get the box.
CC
Nathan:"I thought I would be able to walk straight across, but it didn't work. It didn't work in the other way either and I thought... this isn't going to be as easy as I thought. I started swinging left to right and got closer and closer and then it was within reach and I thought shall I grab it now, but risk losing it?"

He gets it and goes down. They now have one computer chip, but they will only be able to see it when the last contestant has reached the bottom.
Cam is next. He's a firefighter and this does'nt seem to be a prolem. He quickly gets it and goes down.
Alison is next, but she's very nervous.

Alison:"I thought I was going down very fast and then I looked down and realized I hadn't gone down at all!"

She is almost halfway when Nathan and Cam have an idea. They pull her across, using the safety ropes they can reach.
CC
Nathan:"We pulled her across and I think if we didn't do that, she would have had a lot more trouble."
Alison:"Luckily they swung me over to the box that was closest to me. And I managed to just snatch it!"

Petrina is up next, but she's even more nervous than Alison.
CC
Petrina:"In my mind I know I was safe and thought ok just lean back. But something in me was going 'I'm going back into nothing!' It doesn't make sense, lean back when you're not leaning to anything."

She goes a bit down, but then starts spinning. Petrina:"Why am I spinning? What am I doing?!"
The others encourage her.
CC
Petrina:"By that time I had already been spinning a bit so I was quite frightened and... I was losing my grip."

There are two bowes left and Cam and Nathan try to swing her to the one that's furthest away.
CC
Petrina:"I had several tries of going over to the case and I was so close in two particular occasions. And then after a few tries I had dropped too far , we went over a few times, but it was so out of my reach by that stage... I just couldn't do it. And I was getting more and more worked up from being swung around."

She's still being swung left and right and then reaches for it and touches it.
CC
Petrina:"I actually touched it at one point. I tried to flick it towards me, but then I was pulled back, so I missed it."
Nathan:"After a while we thought she might kick it off, but we thought no that's not going to work."

Petrina:"I'm sorry guys, I can't reach it!"
She has gone below the box and there is no way she can reach it now. The guys try to stop swinging, but she smashes into the dam wall. Petrina:"Ouch, guys settle down, I'm not a tea bag!"

Nathan:"It was serious by then, because she had all the opportunity in the world to get that box. We did everything but pull her down! And then Shaun went and he did it before and he flew down! It was amazing!"

Shaun indeed quickly gets the clue and goes down. They now have 4 of the 5 clues and can watch them. It's more than enough information to find the money, but they can buy another clue if they want. It will cost them $ 3,000. They decide to buy it. And it's actually a waste, because they already had enough clues to find the money.

The first clue leads them to the top of the dam.

Next they're lead to a mark labelled F 21, where they will find a key.

The key opens a padlock on a steel door.

The door leads to a ladder.

The ladder leads to a room where they will find the money.

They have 30 minutes left to find the money and have to run all the way up the dam. Shaun gets cramps and stops climbing the stairs after a while. The other contestants stop a while to, but then move on.
Halfway up the dam, Nathan has foudn a door similar to the on on the pictures. It is locked and they don't have the key.
Cam stays with Shaun, while Nathan, Petrina and Alison have reached the top of the dam and search for the F 21. Nathan and Alison run past it, but Petrina finds F 21. None of them notice that there's a key though and they keep on running in search of the padlock. They find a closed door further ahead and Petrina thinks they need a key. She goes back to F 21 and finds the key! Nathan takes it from her and runs down the dam again!

Petrina:"He took the key and just started running back the other way before we had even decided what to do."
Alison:"He just grabbed it and ran, and we were like what are you doing?!"

He runs past Cam and Shaun, who almost reached the top. Cam runs along with Nathan.
CC
Cam:"Nathan saw a door on our way up to the dam that he would swear was the door in the picture. So he ran back the other way to that door."

But it's the wrong door! They only have 13 minutes left and the key is now at the bottom of the dam! Nathan throws the key to Cam, who luckily catches it, or things would have been even worse. Cam now has to run to the top of the dam.
The two girls are still on the dam, looking what other door it could be.
CC
Petrina:"Ali and I stayed on top and thought ok, if it's not that door, which one will it be. So we were running up and down the dam looking for clues!"
Alison:"Then we found a door which had the same padlock on it as in the pictures and screamed down to Nathan."

All three of the boys are now exhausted. They only have 3 minutes left to get to the money. Nathan's back on the dam and throws the key to Petrina who picks it up and runs to the other end of the dam where the door is. Alison is halfway to take over the key and start running to the door. It opens and she finds the stairs. The rest arrives too. Alison takes a look under the cover on top of some thing. That's where the money is. But for some reason, Alison doesn't see it and puts it back! They try to look around. Cam leans on the cover. Then Shaun finds the wrench on top of the cover, which was also on the picture. Alison:"Maybe that opens something!"
They have 40 seconds left. Nathan takes the cover, looks and finds the chip! They won't have the money until they read what's on the chip. They put it in the i-pack and it says they won $ 10,000! But what if anything did The Mole do?

Cam:"Petrina not getting her case on the way down the wall. We had her right on top of it. They were only velcro, not that hard to grab."

They spent $ 3,000 buying a useless clue.
CC
Shaun:"Cam forced the fact of buying the clue and then it turned out to be useless after all."

Shaun slowed eeryone down by telling them he had cramps.
CC
Nathan:"You could point fingers at Shaun for cramping up if he did cramp up, but if I was 140 kilos, I think I would cramp up too climbing those stairs."

Nathan wasted 20 minutes running back to the bottom of the dam with the key.
CC
Petrina:"I've tried to work out if that was just Nathan thinking he had the right answer or if it was actually a sabotage. I keep disregarding him though... that could be a downfall."

They win $ 7,000, because of the $ 3,000 they lost buying the clue.

Later that night, at dinner, they would be shocked and surprised. They have been away from family and friends for two weeks.
At the dinner table the host tells them:"So we were thinking. We should give you the chance to if not spend time with your loved ones, at least see them."
The contestants have no idea that the produciton secretly got into contact with their family and took them on a plane to let them do a parachute jump!
Host:"You are going to be asked to make a series of predicitons. It's a yes or no answer. Each correct predicition wins you $ 10,000. Each incorrect prediction, loses you $ 10,000."
The host then turns on the tv. "I give you... your loved ones!"
They see a plane and then Cam sees his father preparing to jump out of it with a parachute. Cam has to predict whether his father will jump or not. If he's right, he'll win $ 10,000. He jumps!
Next is one of Shaun's mates and he predicts his friend will jump. He's correct. They already have $ 20,000.
Nathan's mate is next and he correctly predicts he'll jump. Another $ 10,000 for the group pot!
Then Alison is in shock to see her mother! Alison:"She said she'd never do something, but maybe she will, he's crazy!"
She has to make up her mind. The host counts down and Alison says her mother will jump. But she doesn't. She refuses to jump. That costs them $ 10,000.
They have won $ 20,000 so far and they have one more prediciton: Petrina's father. She doesn't think he'll jump. But he does! They lose another $ 10,000 and only win $ 10,000 in this challenge.

The parachuting was a shock already, but there will be an ever bigger shock. Without the contestants knowing it, the family members have been flown all the way to New Caledonia.
Host:"Alright, why don't you let them know exactly your performance."
The family members come in and everyone cheers and hugs.

Alison:"She came in and I thought ooh surprise! And then I went 'Oh my god, we're in another country, what are you doing here?!' She was so excited and the whole experience is just incredible."
Cam:"Just amazing to be able to share that experience with someone you're so close to, just even for a brief time, just to see someone and touch them and hang on to someone who you're so close to and haven't seen for so long."
Petrina:"My dad! It's a real person! Not these crazy people, you know, someone I can trust. I was quite teary. I was hugging him for dear life as if it was the last person I knew that I would see. 'Hold me! Don't let me go!' "

The Mole's identity is even a secret for their friends and family... do they think the person they visit could be The Mole?

Petrina's dad:"She definitely is the type of person that could be The Mole."
Petrina:"Well thanks dad!"
Petrina's dad:"But I don't think she is."

Cam's dad:"Well he could easily be The Mole, because if he'd be given the task he would go at it very sneakily."

Nathan's mate:"I think Nathan maybe could be The Mole. He's good at keeping secrets."

Shaun's mate:"I thought about whether Shaun could be The Mole and... he possibly could."

Alison's mother:"Are you The Mole?"
Alison:"I'm not allowed to say."

Day 17 - New Caledonia
The contestants have breakfast with their family, but then the host arrives and asks who hasn't been up in an aircraft in New Caledonia. That would be Alison. She did hang under a helicopter but hasn't been in one. She has to leave immediately. The rest has to go too, in a different car.
Alison is taken to the airport, where she has to fly along in a restored World War II fighter plane. Later on she has to see from the air what the other contestants are doing on the ground.

Alison:"It was incredible! I had no idea what I was going to do. Everyone was trying to scare me on my way there, saying I had to do something scary, but it was so much fun. Even though the plane looks like a toy. It doesn't look real. Incredible! I thought I would be enjoying the view from up there. And then the pilot opened the window and flying over the trees, it was so much fun! I was really excited!"

The others are taken to the beach of an island. They are asked four multiple choice questions. They have to use planks to create the answer in the sand on the beach before a Wordl War II fighter plane comes over the beach with Alison in it. She'll be looking to their answer. Three minutes later the plane will come around again adnd they have to have their next answer ready by then. They can win $ 8,000.
The group is shocked to hear that Alison will be flying over the in a World War II fighter plane!
They start the game. 
First question: Which country has the longest coastline in the world?
INDONESIA
RUSSIA
FINLAND
CANADA

They go for Indonesia and put the planks on the beach. Cam suggests that INDO will be enough, but Shaun wants to continue making the word until the plane arrives. They have lots of time and manage to make the entire word in the sand.
Alison is arriving. She has to read the word and later on, when she has four answers, she has to appoint the answer to each question. She reads word and writes it down.

Second question: Which country has the highest waterfall in the world?
VENEZUELA
NEW ZEALAND
ZIMBABWE
USA

They go for Zimbabwe and create it in the sand. Alsion flies over and reads it.

Third question: Which country has the largest land area in the world?
CANADA
USA
RUSSIA
CHINA

They doubt between China and Russia. Petrina:"Russia isn't as big as it used to be though, with the USSR."
Cam thinks it's Russia, but Shaun wins the arguement and they go for China. 

Fourth question: Which country has the most English speakers in the world?
SOUTH AFRICA
INDIA
USA
UK

Petrina thinks it's India, none of the guys agree though. Petrina tells them that land has the highest population and they all speak English. She's sure of it.
But Nathan and Cam completely ignore her and they go for the USA. But they're wrong. India was the correct answer!

Alison has now written down the four answers and has to answer the same questions her team mate have answered. She can only use the answers she has written down.
Which country has the largest land area in the world?
Alison places for China.

Which country has the highest waterfall in the world?
Alison guesses Indonesia.

Which country has the most English speakers in the world?
She goes for USA.
But then Zimbabwe remains for Which country has the longest coastline in the world?
Alison:"That doesn't make sense!"
They now check the answers she gave to the correct answers...
Which country has the largest land area in the world?
Alison: China
Correct answer: Russia

Which country has the highest waterfall in the world?
Alison: Indonesia
Correct answer: Venezuela

Which country has the most English speakers in the world?
Alison: USA
The host asks Petrina again, because she did have the right answer and the boys ignored her: India.

Which country has the longest coastline in the world?
Alison: Zimbabwe
Correct answer: Canada

The four contestants got every answer wrong. So it was impossible for Alison to correctly get any question right. They lose out on $ 8,000.

Suspicions
Alison:"I'm leaning more to Cam and Petrina still, but it's really difficult. Now I think it's the hardest it's ever been. Especially after meeting their family. I don't want to be swayed by thinking it can't be that person because their family is so nice. But that's obviously got nothing to do with it."
Nathan:"I'm stuck right in the middle of suspicion between Cam and Petrina. I can't think of Alison or Cam being The Mole at the moment. I was strong on Petrina, and now I've been taking more notes, aking sure I know everybody. But it's hard to pick out of those two."
Cam:"I don't think it's Nathan because he tries all the time, but he might done me over, who knows! I don't think it's Shaun. I think Shaun thinks it's me. Which is good. I still think it's a toss-up between Petrina and Ali at the moment."
Petrina:"It's definitely Cam... or Shaun or Ali and I think at this point I'd probably say Shaun. And I think he's perfect! He's this young really likeable guy from the country. He's funny. He gets in there and mostly has a really good go at things, but sometimes he does something dodgy. So Shaun I think is my number one at the moment."
Shaun:"Cam is my main suspect due to many things. The photographs that weren't on the chip with that other challenge. Forceful in spending money. And the letter that I foudn the other day pointed the finger at either of the boys. If it was Cam who left it or dropped it I really think he would be The Mole."

That night in confession cam, it seems no one is sure of who The Mole is...

Alison:"I'm having such a hard time trying to figure out who The Mole is at the moment. I kow who I think it is, but then I don't know if I'm thinking that for the right reasons or the wrong reasons... I don't think it's Nathan. But then today I looked at him and thought God maybe he is!It's really difficult but I really want to figure it out."
Petrina:"Nathan did some dodgy stuff today, but I'm not suss on that. I keep disregarding him. I'm noticing what he's doing, but I just don't think he's The Mole. Ali I keep noticing and she keeps stuffing things up. I'm really think it's either Cam or Shaun. If either of them is going tonight, that would be such a blessing, because then I can focus on one of them. So if I survive tonight, that's what I'm going to do."
Nathan:"I've got four people to choose from. Ali doesn't stand out for me, Shaun doesn't stand out for me. You know, he's such an amazing guy you'd never think he'd pull this off, but Ali is such a great girl and she can probably pull this off standing on her head. Cam and Petrina are my suspects, but Cam is so involved and really hates losing. The Mole's job is very hard to understand."

But there is at least one person who is certain he knows who The Mole is.

Shaun:"Ok, the letter I was talking to you about the other day. I've come to the conclusion it's genuine and I'm keeping hold of it. Basically it's a letter of instructions to The Mole, whoever The Mole might be. I'm not going to tell you who The Mole is but.. you know. I know who it is!"

Suspicious in this episode
The note Shaun foud points at either Nathan or Cam being The Mole. Is the note genuine or did someone make it up? Maybe even Shaun himself?
Petrina didn't get the chip on the dam.
Cam insists on buying the fifth clue, which was useless.
Shaun slows everyone down by having cramps.
Nathan and Alison run past the key.
When Petrina finds the key, Nathan takes it and runs all the way down the dam with it, wasting 20 minutes!
Alison takes a look under the cover and doesn't see the chip that's under it.
Petrina and Alison wrongly predict whether or not their family member will jump.
Shaun persists that the coutry with the largest land area is China, while Cam thought it was Russia. They follow Shaun's opinion, but later on it turns out that Russia was the correct answer after all.
The same happened when Petrina knew the correct answer (India) on another question, but Cam and Nathan ignored her and went for USA.
