Australian Mole 4
The Mole: In Paradise
Episode 5

Josh didn't identify The Mole correctly. Unlike Cam, he didn't get the
chance to come back and is eliminated.
Day 9 - New Caledonia
That morning, they go to the beach. Ironically it's the first day
of rain day have during their trip and it happens to be when they go to the
beach. At the beach they find a lot of stuff, such as: inflatable dinosaur and
palm tree, a kitchen sink, barrels, wood, nets, ...
They have to build a raft and get to a rescue boat where they will find $5,000.
They have to use all the items on the raft. The host asks who wants to be the
captain. Nathan volunteers. They get one hour and time starts. The girls
start building, while the guys are planning and drawing in the sand how they are
going to build the raft. They need teamwork for this challenge, but that's
exactly what they lack.
CC
Alison:"The guys started talking about how it would float, but
as soon as we asked how we were going to do it, it was like 'Do not argue with
the boys'."
After ten minutes, the raft building has turned into a planning
comittee.
CC
Nathan:"There was a bit of bickering. Everyone had their own
opinion. We all brought our opinions in to see which was the best way to do it.
Everyone was asking around how to build the raft and telling people to do this
and that."
Nathan was appointed captain, but it's Cam who's
taking control.
CC
Kris:"Cam has changed his personality. He was very agresive and
rude to everyone the other days and he's settled down now. He's trying to be
friends with everyone, to help everyone,..."
Cam:"There wasn't any standing around, everyone was helping
and doing their bit."
They have 30 minutes left and are still a long way from
completing the raft and peddling to the money. The host arrives and tells them
to appoint the person who is of the least use to build the raft. They choose Kris:

She gets a metal detector and has to find 2,000 francs in the and, to find money
to hire a kayak and get to the money. Their are hundreds of coins burried in the
sand, so she has to find them.
CC
Kris:"I didn't have my glasses on and couldn't read the coins,
which was the most frustrating thing."
She finds 200 francs, but still needs 1,800 to rent the kayak.
The others have finished building the grid of the raft and are now attaching the
barrels underneath it with ropes. But they're not doing a great job of, as they
will find out.
CC
Petrina:"We had the barrels underneath and we only had them tied
around one way and I suggested to also tie it around the other way, so the
barrels wouldn't fall out. But they just looked at me going.... uhu... but
didn't pay any attention to it and went on."
They think they're ready and they carry the raft to the water.
But indeed, the barrels do fall out.
CC
Petrina:"Hello? As soon as we get the raft up and into the
water, what happens? The barrels go off and fall out exactly where I said!"
Cam quickly tries to tie them, but it will take him 3
minutes to fix all barrels. That could be too much time. But there's still Kris
and
ten minutes left! Kris only has 400 francs yet. The others go in the
water and start peddling, but the raft still isn't very sea-worthy.
CC
Alison:"One of the barrels came loose as soon as we got in the
water and Petrina had to hook her legs around it. She was basically holding the
barrel onto the raft the whole time."
Petrina:"I was sitting on the barrel and at no part of the
raft at all. I was also kicking the water at the same time... it was mad!"
They have 3 minutes left and are on their way to the boat. But
with a kayak, it only takes two minutes, but Kris still has to find more
coins. She has only foudn ten coins out of a hundred after half an hour and
still hasn't got enough. Winning the $5,000 is up to the people on the raft.
They arrive at the boat and get on quickly and take the money. The host stops
the timer... they are one minute and 38 seconds too late! The host informs them
about Kris's task and how she failed to do so.
CC
Alison:"When Cam stuffs up, Kris has done a good job and when
Kris stuffs up, Cam has done a good job, so it's really hard to figure out which
one is genuinely making mistakes or which one's the mole or looks like the
mole."
Nikki:"I've never used a metal detector before, but I think
you hear it ringing, you grab you're coins and you're done, so I think she
wasted a bit of time."
Cam:"When she did find the coins, she didn't have her glasses
and couldn't read the coins, because it's a foreign currency to us, it's 'funny
money'. She could've beaten us all there and get the money, but she didn't. She
didn't make it."
That afternoon, they have split up. Six of them will be having
lunch in three different restaurants. They will be playing a game of New
Caledonian Whispers. It's like Chinese Whispers, but this time they use sms,
phones and faxes.
Alison
is with the host.
She will get a word and has to describe it through sms to ->

Kris
and Petrina, who have to figure out what word Alison described.
They then have to draw the word, using geometrical figures and then have to describe how to draw it to

Nikki
and Nathan,
who have to try to draw the geometrical figures and fax their drawing to

Cam
and Shaun, who have to figure out what the drawing is and sms the word
back to the host. If it's the same word as Alison sent to Kris and
Petrina, they win $2,000. In total they get 15 minutes for each word.
The first word is: parachute.
Alison sends the sms: 'thing that holds up when u jump out of a plane'
Kris and Petrina receive the message and Petrina things
it's a harness first, but Kris thinks parachute and they go for that. No
they figure out how to draw a parachute using geometrical forms. They go for
'Half a circle with a straight line on the bottom and two triangles (Petrina
uses a word I don't know, it sounds like 'aesopholis triangle') down from the
straight line.
Nikki and Nathan try to draw it, but haven't got a clue what it's
supposed to be. They fax it to Shaun and Cam, hoping they'll know.
They don't know either. They don't even know which side is up. The word they
call through to the host is 'cat'. Obviously wrong.

The next word is motorbike. Alison sends this sms: 'a
harley's one. we had a ride on it during a task'
Petrina and Kris now have to draw it and describe it, using
geometric terms. After several minutes, Petrina calls Nathan and
describes the drawing: 2 circles, 8 cm apart at the bottom of the page and then
5 lines going out from the radius in each circle. An upward facing triangle
between the circles, with the straight line touching the circles. On top of the
triangle a 180° line going straight across the top. Nathan draws it and
then says:"OK, we'll do our best!"
Petrina:"Hang on, that's not it yet!"

At the back of the line goes a square and at the other end a straight line
on a 45° angle with twostraight lines at right angles to that straight line.
They go over it again, which costs them 2 valuable minutes. Nathan and Nikki
then draw a good version and fax it, but they only have 20 seconds left. Time's
up and the host calls Shaun and Cam and asks them to give the
word. They haven't received the fax yet and so they lose. When Shaun
hangs up, the fax arrives. Cam takes it and immediately sees it's a bike.
But that's too late...
Last word: helicopter
Alison sends the sms: 'I hung from one. It has propellors'
Kris and Petrina quickly find out it's a helicopter and try to
draw it. An oval and blades on top of it and then oblongs as legs. Petrina
calls the other two and describes: draw an oval in the middle of the page. Two
lines run through the top of the oval and cross on top of the oval in diagonals.
Then draw two oblongs underneath the oval and a straight line at the base of the
two oblongs.
Nathan and Nikki don't know what oblongs are though... but there's
no time to explain, because they only 4 minutes left. Nikki faxes the
drawing to Shaun and Cam. They don't know what it is, but decide
it's a catamaran. They lose out on $6,000! Alison's text messages were
interpreted correctly, so where did it go wrong?
CC
Nikki:"I never think Petrina could be the mole, but if anyone
could have been doing anything today in this task, I would say it could have
been Petrina's way of explaining."
Alison:"I asked Kris if anything strange happened in if there
was any mole strategy and she said 'We're both moles, because we didn't know how
to draw those things properly.' "
Kris:"It's easier than it sounds, I think. We went great with
the first one. Bit of trouble with the motorbike. But it was a great assignment.
No mole work where I was, I don't think. It was just Petrina and I."
Alison:"She seems to be quite happy at blaming herself for
things going wrong, but not really acting like she feels bad about it. I find
that a bit strange."
The prize kitty still stands at $98,000.
Day 10 - New Caledonia
They arrive at a big parking lot with containers. This assignment
is called 'Walk the plank'. Above the three containers (20 metres high) is a 10
meter plank. Halfway there are green wallets and at the end there are red
wallets. They will each be asked a question. If they answer correctly, they will
only have to walk the plank halfway to get a green wallet, but if they answer
wrong, they have to walk all the way to the end. Each wallet is worth $5,000.
The questions are divided in categories. The first category is 'Fashion'.
They all point at Nathan to answer it.
Who designed the cone-shaped bra Madonna wore on her blonde ambition tour?
A. Dolce & Gabbana
B. Versace
C. Jean Paul Gaultier
D. Alexander McQueen
Nathan goes for Versace, but that's wrong! It's Jean Paul
Gaultier. He now has to walk the entire plank and get a red wallet. The plank
wobbles and shakes. The contestants get to wear protection gear and ropes of
course. The others are down on the ground, watching Nathan and Nikki
tells the others that they could use the safety rope to keep balance if they
pull it tightly.
Nathan hasn't even reached the green wallets yet and falls off. He failed
to get his $5,000.
Next category: 'Entertainment'. Alison does it
Which of the following worked as a cashier at Dunkin' Donuts before they were
famous?
A. Renee Zellweger
B. Madonna
C. Shania Twain
D. Britney Spears
Alison thinks it's Renee Zellweger, but it's Madonna. So
she has to go to the red wallets too.
CC
Kris:"She should have known that! Madonna is her absolute idol,
her favourite, her number one. She knows what she has for breakfast, she knows
everything about Madonna. There's no way in the world she would have that
wrong!"
Alison holds on tp the safety rope to keep her balance.
CC
Alison:"At first the plank was very sturdy, but then at the end
it started shaking a bit. I was at the end and thinking 'Ok, how am I bending
down to take that wallet without letting go?' I just thought focus and don't get
scared this time, just focus!"
She gets the wallet and goes back safely, winning $5,000.
Next category is 'Sport'. They're doubting between Cam and Shaun.
Eventually, Shaun goes for it.
Which city is hosting the 2006 Winter Olympics?
A. Vancouver
B. Helsinki
C. Turin
D. Chamonix
He thinks Halsinki, but that's wrong. It's Turin. Shaun
doesn't want to go on the plank and forfeits the $5,000.
Cam is up for the next category: 'Science and technology'
Which of the following bridges is the widest?
A. Sydney Harbour
B. Golden Gate
C. Brooklyn
D. Humber
Cam reckons it's the Golden Gate. Wrong again! It's the
Sydney Harbour bridge. Cam has to walk the entire plank and get the red
wallet. But he's a fireman, so it shouldn't be a problem. And it isn't! Another
$5,000 towards the kitty!
Kris goes for the category 'Wildlife'
What distance can an elephant swim without touching the bottom?
A. No distance
B. 30 metres
C. 300 metres
D. 3 kilometres
She goes for 30 metres. Wrong! An elephant can swim 3
kilometres! Kris also passes to go on the plank!
Next category for Petrina: Travel
Which of the following structures is the highest?
A. Great Pyramid of Giza
B. Eiffel Tower
C. AMP Tower
D. Rialto Tower
Petrina correctly answers the Eiffel Tower! She has to
get the green wallet and uses the same strategy as Alison and Cam:
holding the safety rope.
CC
Petrina:"The hardest thing was lowering down. That's where I
felt the most unsure. I had to keep one hand free to take the wallet and only
hold with one hand. I felt nervous because I thought it made me a bit
wobbly."
She makes it safely though! Another $5,000.
The last category 'The Opposite Sex' is for Nikki.
Which of the following has been recognised as the fastest street legal
production car?
A. Ferrari F60
B. Lamborghini Diablo
C. McLaren F1
D. Dodge Viper SAT-10
Nikki guesses the Ferrari, but it's the McLaren F1. Nikki
is excited to go though. She quickly walks to the end and goes back safely. They
have won $20,000, but they might be losing that again...
Alison, Cam, Petrina and Nikki are the ones who went
to get a wallet. In each wallet is a computer chip with an exemption on it. The
contestants can now decide to give the $5,000 they won back to the host get the
exemption. So they could lose all $20,000 and 4 of them can get an exemption.
Alison doesn't want it. Cam tells the host to keep that exemption
too. Nikki also wants to keep the $5,000. Petrina is doubting...
the host asks her for the answer and starts counting down from 5... 4... 3...
2... Petrina:"I'll keep the money..."
So all four refused the exemptions and kept the money. Tonight someone will
be leaving. Hopefully for them they made the right decision...
CC
Alison:"Now I'm like... I don't know... was it the right
choice... I don't know if it is. I've got to start thinking about me being
here."
Cam:"I hope I won't be taken out tonight, but I can't do
anything about it. Elimination tonight. Fingers crossed. Hope I'll see you
tomorrow!... I think I'll be ok."
Nikki:"You really have to work as a team otherwise we're not
going to get any money and if I took this, as great as it would be to get to the
next round... it would mean the team didn't work together properly."
Petrina:"I was so excited for walking on that beam and
retrieving the money and I got my question right and I was the only one who
could answer their question... (her voice starts breaking) And when the
host made us that offer and we'd been through everybody else and it got to my
turn...(almost crying) ... I just didn't know what to say!"
Suspicions
Nikki:"It could be Kris and I'm watching Ali as well. I
think when we were making the raft today, Alison could have been trying to
peddle backwards, which would slow us down and helped to lose us the
money."
Shaun:"Kris has been on my list from the start. It's not that
difficult to determain what coin is how many francs. The average person knows
how to handle a metal detector and not swing it around real quick, which could
have slowed us down a bit."
Kris:"I've got a big question mark on Alison and Cam... I'm
trying to fit Cam into this puzzle in my head in everything that's been going
on."
Nathan:"Kris has always been my suspect from day one. She's
costing us money, therefor I think she'd be a prime suspect to me."
Alison:"Cam seems to try very hard, but he's always doing
little suspicious things. Like today when we were talking about the money, he
made it feel like it had to be a team effort and as soon as we got into the bus
he said 'I would have definitely taken the mone if I was you guys!' He just does
these suspicious things like that that make me go hmm... he's not 100 %
honest."
Cam:"I suspect possibly Alison, Kris... Petrina. I suspect
everybody."
Suspicious in this episode
No one listened to Petrina when she said the
barrels would come off.
They all were wasting time bringing in their opinions on how to build the raft.
Kris didn't have her glasses, so she couldn't read the coins. After 30
minutes she only found 10 coins, which wasn't enough.
Nikki and Nathan didn't know what oblongs are.
Kris and Petrina wasted a lot of time drawing the motorbike.
Kris and Shaun refused to go up the plank!
Nathan fell off the plank.
Elimination
Four of the contestants could have gotten an
exemption, but they all chose the money instead. Was it a good decision? Let's
see who'll be eliminated...
