Australian Mole 4
The Mole: In Paradise
Australia's fourth series is called 'The Mole: In Paradise'
because this adventure will take place in New Caledonia, a lovely paradise,
where the contestants will have to confront their fears and confront the
traitor. Someone will be sabotaging them and they have to find out who it is.
But paradise lies ahead, because the game starts on a rainy day in Sydney...
Day 1 - Sydney
At a crossroad, a girl arrives. She's looking around, not knowing
what to do. A guy arrives, they shake hands and introduce themselves:

Alison
and Nathan
At a railway station, a train arrives. An older looking woman
gets off and carries her bags. Soon an older man arrives too and they meet up
with each other:

Kris
and
Greg
A ferry arrives at a harbour and a young blonde girl gets off. A
young blonde guy arrives there by bus and they meet up too:

Nikki
and Cam
At Martin place, another man and woman meet each other:

Stace
and Josh
And lastly we see the final pair meeting up near the entrance of
a park:

Petrina
and Shaun
The host is Grant Bowler:

None of the contestants know what to do and they just have to
wait and see. It's 7:30 and the host uses his cell-phone to call a payphone
which is situated next to Alison and Nathan. The payphone is
ringing... the two hesitate at first, but Alison encourages Nathan
to answer it. Host:"Good morning and welcome to The Mole. Outside Town
Hall there is a safe. Inside it are instructions. Open the safe within the next
3 minutes and you will win $1,000. Your time starts now! Good luck."
Nathan crosses the street and runs to the safe. Alison follows
him and she spots a sign behind a glass wall, where normally there would be
posters. It says:
'Solve the puzzle to open the safe
PHONE = 74663
MOLE = ????'
Confession Cam
Nathan:"Straight away into a puzzle. We looked at it and thought
it might be the alphabet on a mobile."
He enters a code, but it's incorrect. They have 90 seconds left.
CC
Alison:"Nathan was quite flustered I think. He knew that we had
a short amount of time and I got stressed because he was panicking."
Nathan:"We had little time so we were rushing."
They enter another code, but it's wrong again. Time's up and a
mobile rings nearby. They find it and Alison answers. They missed out on
the money. The host tells them the combination is 6653 and instructs them to
open the safe and follow the instructions. So they do. Inside the safe is
another mobile and an iPack which has the following text on it:
'Press SEND twice on the mobile phone and when someone answers, read them the
following:
'There is a safe at the end of the platform. Inside it are instructions. Open
the safe within three minutes and you'll win $1,000. Your time starts now!'
Your assignment is now over. There is a limousine near Town Hall which will
take you to your location.'
They follow the instructions. Kris answers the phone and Nathan
reads the instructions. Kris then hurries to the end of the platform,
screaming nervously to Greg that they have o open a safe.
Next to the safe is a billboard which says:
'Solve the puzzle to open the safe.
290
15 14
10
????
51 49
11 '
It's a mathematical problem. Greg figures it out:
15 + 14 = 29
=> 29 * 10 = 290
51 + 49 = 100
=> 100 * 11 = 1100
Kris enters the code and the safe opens. She screams in
excitement. They also have to call someone else. Kris does and reads the
instructions to Cam in full excitement:"On board the ferry that
is at the end of the dock, you'll find a safe. Inside the safe are some
instructions. Open the safe within three minutes and you'll win $1,000. Your
time starts NOW!"
Cam en Nikki quickly get their bags whilst Cam explains
where they have to go. Their clue:'The number of days the younger of you has
been alive = ????'
CC
Nikki:"Cam started writing things down and I was overlooking his
shoulder and he goes 'When is your birthday?! When is your birthday?!!' and I'm
like... well let's just work out the code first to fill in!"
Cam:"Nikki told me she was 19, but then she told me she was
18 and 24 days or something like that. I think she forgot how old she was and we
didn't have much tiome so I took her on her word."
He writes the number 365 down 18 times and then figures out
which years were leap years. They only have 10 seconds left though and run out
of time. A mobile rings. Nikki finds it and answers it. The host tells them they
missed out on the money. The combination is 6964. They open the safe and follow
instructions again.
Cam reads the instructions and phones Josh. "There's a
safe at the news stand across the street. Inside the safe are some instructions.
Open the safe within three minutes and you'll win $1,000. Your time starts
now!"
Josh and Stace cross the street. In a kind of newspaper stand,
they see:
'Solve the clue to open the safe.
THE MOLE = 3345
A TRAITOR = 1???'
They try to figure it out.
CC
Josh:"I'm good at solving problems and we had to be quick, so I
took a bit of a chance."
Josh enters a code and the safe opens already!
CC
Stace:"All of a sudden the safe was open and I was kind of
like 'Hang on a second I haven't even started playing yet. How did this happen?'
"
She calls the final pair. Petrina answers stace
tells her the safe in the limousine. They can find the clue to open the safe on
the back of the payphone.
It's a moving billboard which has the instructions to open the safe:
Year of federation
+ two fat ladies
+ Melbourne GPO postcode
+ seconds in an hour
= ????
They try to read it fast,, but the billboard moves again,
exposing the Mole logo. They wait till the clues appear again. Petrina says the
year of federation is 1901 and two fat ladies means 88. She also says the
postcode is 3000 and on their way to the limousine they multiply 60 by 60 to
figure out how many seconds are in an hour. They have one minute and 40 seconds
left. Petrina is very nervous, trying to add up the numbers.
CC
Petrina:"Like I was doing the driving, figuring out the code and
the clues and it felt like Shaun was suporting, but he wasn't really doing that
much."
They enter a code, but it's wrong. Time's up and the phone rings. They lost out on the money. The combination is 8590. There's a voucher of $1,000 in the safe and an iPack that tells them they are taken to the airport.
All teams are taken to the airport. Just two teams managed to
open a safe and get the $1,000. Who is The Mole?

Nathan

"No I'm not The Mole. I'm here to take home the cash."
One of them is lying, because one of them IS The Mole!!
The limousines arrive at the airport and they all meet up with each other. Josh
goes around, pointing at every person in the group telling them they look shifty
or dodgy.
CC
Petrina:"Something about Josh I was immediately suspicious of. I
don't know what it was, it was just on first impressions when we were all in a
group. Something about his eyes was very shifty and very darty. He was kind of
squinting his eyes all little bit all the time and kind of just darting
around."
Greg is standing apart from the group on his own.
CC
Nathan:"Greg stood out a lot on the airport. He wouldn't be very
friendly, didn't want anyone to know his business. He was just blank and no
energy. Everyone wasso excited and he was just like... hmm. So that was standing
out a lot."
They leave their bags at the check-in and get their tickets. The
destination is unknown. While they sit in the waiting area Greg and Shaun
are called to the reception over the intercom. The two get a phone call from the
host who tells them they won't be travelling with the others. They have to go to
a car outside the terminal and they have to go over there. When they go back,
they are swamped by the others wanting to know what's going on, but all they
know is they aren't travellign along with the rest.
The others are put on a bus and driven to the plane. They suddenly see it's a
skydiving plane. Some are excited, but others, such as Kris already get
nervous.
CC
Kris:"All these hysterical people in the bus... just so
excited....and I went oh.. my... goodnes. This is my worst nightmare."
The host informs them about the challenge. It's skydiving
indeed! They all put jumping suits and harnasses on and get on board. The plane
takes off.
CC
Josh:"Getting in the plane was really cool. We all had our gear
on and kinda felt like Top Gun!"
Alison:"I saw Petrina getting really nervous. She looked like
she was going to cry or something."
Kris:"I was watching the colour drained from Petrina's face.
She was getting whiter and whiter every moment. Alison was getting whiter. I was
fine...I knew I was going to do the jump."
Petrina:"I so knew I was going to do the jump, but this
feeling in my heart was just 'I don't know if I can.' I didn't know if my fear
was going to be stronger than my desire to do it."
4,000 meters below them is the landing site: a hotel in New
South-Wales. Greg and Shaun have to drive to that place, where the
host tells them they have to predict who will jump and who won't. They see
pictures of each contestant and have to predict whether they will jump or not. Nikki's
first and they think she'll jump. Nathan will jump too, they guess. But
then with Josh they are in disagreement. Shaun doubts if he will
jump. Greg thinks he will, Shaun doesn't. Greg eventually
gives in and they predict NO for Josh.
Next is Stace and then Cam of whom they both think they'll jump.
Then with Alison, Shaun is doubting again, but at the end does
think she will jump. They don't think Kris will jump and finally there's Petrina
of whom they do think will jump.
The contestants are about to jump out of the plane (of course
not a solo jump, but a tandem jump). What they don't know, is that 3 seconds
before they jump, someone reads them a number which they will have to remember!
Nathan is going to jump and a man yells his number: 6284
CC
Nathan:"This person next to me was yelling out numbers and I
couldn't even look him in the eyes. I was just looking straight forward thinking
'You're kidding, you're kidding!'."
Nathan jumps, followed by Josh (who gets 5684) and
Cam (2268). Stace gets 7822 and jumps...
CC
Petrina:"I was hearing numbers being shouted out to the others
and... part of me was listening to their number, watching them go out of the
plane at the same time and I'm moving closer to the edge... all happening in
like 4 or 5 seconds!"
Alison (2547) and Nikki (6455) jump. It's Petrina's
turn. As she gets to the edge, she screams "I don't know if I can! I
don't know if I can!!!" And she screams a few times whilst the man is
yellign out her number: 5636
CC
Petrina:"And.. I got this feeling when I was standing on the
edge, I felt tears coming to my eyes. And then we were gone! We were just so
gone!"
Kris is the last one. She's getting closer to the edge,
buts panicks and quits! She doesn't jump.
CC
Kris:"I don't know whether it was fear or just a hot flush... it
was fear!"
The others land safely. The guys are taken in the hotel first
where Greg and Shaun have to tell them what they predicted. For
every correct answer they get $1,000. For every wrong answer they lose $1,000
out of the kitty!
Cam and Nathan jumped and they predicted so. That's $2,000
already. But Josh jumped too and they predicted he wouldn't! So they only
have $1,000 so far.
The guys now get a new assignment: to repack the ladies' luggage. For every kilo
they unpack and leave behind, they will win $1,000. They only get 5 minutes to
do so. What they don't know is that the women can follow everything they're
doing on three tv screens in another room. The girls are screaming and yelling
hysterically.
CC
Petrina:"When I saw Josh going through my bag, I was like...
YOU! Howw dare you! It's a really weid thing to see somebody else taking out
your personal belongings. And they seemed to be enjoying it so much!"
Josh finds a corset and tries it on to show to the
others.
CC
Shaun:"Nathan quite surprised me. He was unpacking Kris's bag
and he took a handful of clothes out of her bag and that was it! Wish was
suspicious in a way that there was good money up for grabs per kilo and he
didn't take that into account."
The girls keep on screaming and yelling as the host walks over
to the guys to tell them time's up.
CC
Nathan:"The next thing I know it's all over and I looked around
and there were high piles aside of me and I thought 'Well I didn't really have a
go at it like everyone else...' "
Cam:"Nathan when he was unpacking the bags for Kris, he
didn't take a lot out. He told us he didn't understand the task at hand."
Alison:"Cam could have taken more things out of my bag.
Heavier things. He took a lot of things out, but they were all light, like
fishnet t-shirt. That's not gonna weigh anything!"
At dinner, the guys tell the girls what they have done. The host
then asks the girls to tell them what they were doing in the meantime. The guys
are quite shocked to find out the girls were watching them all the time! The
boys took out 27 kilograms, so that's $27,000 towards the kitty.
When diner's
over, every person that jumped out of the plane, gets a safe. They have to open
it, using the code they were given right before jumping off the plane! Every
successful try brings $1,000 to the kitty. Every unsuccessful try takes $1,000
out of it!
Alison is first. She got 2547. She enters 2053, which is
wrong of course. $1,000 lost already!
Stace (7822) is next. She manages to open the safe! Nikki too
opens the safe with her number 6455!
Petrina doesn't look confident. She had 5636, but enters 6336. They're
back to even. $2,000 lost and $2,000 won.
CC
Nathan:"Petrina... she was all 'I don't think I can do this
guys!' and she did fail indeed, but the big surprise for me was Josh!"
Josh is next. He got 5674.
CC
Shaun:"Josh was deadset certain he had his number."
Josh:"I thought I would be able to do it. I remembered the
number on the way down. I wasn't that overloaded with emotions that I couldn't
process that."
He enters... 5824... Wrong!
CC
Stace:"Josh... dodgy. Very dodgy that he didn't open the safe.
When we did the first task, he was really quick in opening the safe. He's a
number-person. He had it written down. There's no way that he would stuff that
up."
They're $1,000 down. Nathan (6284) isnext. He enters the
code, but can't open the safe... at first. It was just a little jammed and he
does manage to open it! They're even again. Only Cam can make them win
anything with 2268. He remembered it and they win $1,000.
They now have $36,000 in the kitty.
Suspicions
Shaun:"My only thoughts on who The Mole might be, would
have to be Josh. With the safe dinner, Josh was deadset certain he had his
number and when it got around to him the code was wrong."
Petrina:"Greg and Shaun... I just can't believe that those
two guys both voted that Josh would not jump."
Nathan:"Greg stood out a lot on the airport. He put up a big
front. He wouldn't be very friendly, didn't want anyone to know his
business."
Kris:"Josh has a big question mark on his head, as does Shaun
as does Cam."
Stace:"Cam I don't know. He's a bit of a wildcard there I
think. Everyone's story is possible, but I'm pretty suspicious of everyone at
this stage."
Cam:"I think maybe Alison. She in he first task was with
Nathan. She didn't remember her code, but she jumped and she made a big fuss
about not jumping, but she did."
Josh:"Cam... very suspicious about him, but the suspicion has
been fading. I have in my head that The Mole is a confident, intelligent person
able of deceiving."
Confession Cam
Cam:"I'm terrified of going home tonight, because I don't want
to be on this for only one night and have everyone at home laughing at me that I
was the first one out!"
Petrina:"We've got our first elimination coming up and... I'm
scared.... I don't wanna go home!"
Shaun:"I definitely don't want to go home. I want to stay
here. I want to have a ball and I want to win the money!"
Stace (showing some rocks):"This is for intuition, for
courage, all of those things bundled in this. So if you see me ratlling things
in my hands, these are the things that I'm using to win. Yu-Yu! Magic Yu-Yu,
that's how I'll win!"
Suspicious in this episode
Alison, Nathan, Cam, Nikki,
Petrina and Shaun didn't get their safe open.
Cam wanted to work out how many days Nikki had been alive, but she
was confusing about it.
Shaun didn't seem to be helping much.
Greg and Shaun predicted Josh wouldn't jump, but he did.
Kris didn't jump.
Nathan didn't take much kilograms out of Kris's bag.
Cam took a lot of light things out of Alison's bag.
Alison, Petrina and Josh (who claims to be good with
numbers) didn't remember their code.
Elimination
The host has nine tickets to New Caledonia, where they will fly
too that night. But one of them won't be travelling along. One of them scored
the lowest and is sent home. Click to find out who stays and who goes:
