1925 11a Franklin page | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
It all started when I was a kid in High School, about 1984, when my science teacher would sometimes talk of a car he had in his barn amongst other vehicles he had collected over the span of his life. My dad took me out to his farm and I could not believe my eyes. The most beautiful car I'd ever seen in my life. I thought "why isn't this in a museum". The 1925 11A Franklin headlamps were as big as dinner plates staring at me ! Later that summer I went to visit him, and to my surprise, he let me drive it around the yard.... WOW!!!!!! I will never forget that day. 20 years later he moved out of state and wanted to start selling off his cars so I offered him my help. He had 4 Franklins by that time, 3 ran and drove, he took them with him. He had one more left in a pile of parts and mentioned selling them on the internet. I knew these parts were very hard to find and some day I wanted a Franklin so he gave it to me for selling off the other cars. Wouldn't you know it I found another 1925 11A Franklin about the same time and bought it off the internet. So, Thanksgiving 2004 my dad and I went on a 2000 mile roadtrip for what was left of a 1925 11A. The motor runs!! I am currently trying to restore the chassis. I hope all goes well!!!!!!! |
