Anzac Class (FFH) Frigates

Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs)

Speed (knots): 22 Range (nm): 5,500 to 6,000 Armament: 1 x Raphael Typhoon 25mm gun plus several 12.7mm MGs Aircraft: 1 x Kaman Seasprite SH-2G ASW Helicopter Complement: 35 plus 10 flight and 4 Govt agency officers plus 30 embarked personnel No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate P148 Otago (II) Due Apr, 2007 Launched 18/11/2006 P55 Wellington (III)Due Oct, 2007 These OPVs are of similar design to the Irish Navy's OPVs, L.E. Roisin & L.E. Niamh. They will be helicopter capable and will provide the RNZN with a new capability between the Frigates and IPVs, to assist in the patrol of its EEZ. Both OPVs are being constructed at Williamstown, Victoria from modules built at both Williamstown and Whangarei.

Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs)

They will replace the existing Weka Class IPCs. All IPVs will be constructed entirely at Tenix's facility at Whangarei.

P3554 Kiwi (II) 2/9/84 Active, between HMNZS Pegasus, Lyttleton and HMNZS Tora, Dunedin. P3555 Wakakura (II) 26/3/85 Active, HMNZS Philomel, Auckland. P3556 Hinau (II) 4/10/85 Active, HMNZS Philomel, Auckland. Decommissioned at Devonport 23/1/07. Note: Locally built by Whangarei Engineering. All Inshore Patrol Craft have returned to Auckland, excepting Kiwi (II), to fulfil training roles, after HMNZS Canterbury, a significant training platform, decommissioned on 31 March 2005. All these vessels to be replaced by the IPVs above!

Multi-Role Vessel

Max. Speed (knots): 19.7 Range (nm): 6,000 to 8,000 Armament: 1 x Raphael Typhoon 25mm gun plus several 12.7mm MGs Aircraft: Deck space for 5 Helicopters inc. NH90s or Kaman Seasprite SH-2Gs Complement: 53 plus 10 flight, 7 Army and 4 Govt agency officers plus 35 trainees and 250 embarked troops No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate L421 Canterbury (II) 12/6/07 Commissioned at Williamstown, Vic (AUS) Visiting homeport of Lyttleton on 28/6/07. Timaru visit 4-6/7/07 thence to Devonport. This MRV is a RO-RO type ship as currently used on the Irish Sea. It will replace the Canterbury (I), already decommissioned and will be a long-range, high endurance patrol vessel with capacity for tactical sealift and logistic support. The ship will be capable of providing support to peacekeeping missions, sealift, disaster relief, civil aid and evacuation and training operations. It has been built at the Merwede Shipyard in the Netherlands and has been fitted-out at Williamstown, Victoria. (Australia)

Diving Support Vessel

Note: Photo of Star Perseus active in the North Sea on oil rig duties during the 1980s.

Stalwart Class (AGS) Hydrographic Survey Ship

Speed (knots): 11 Equipment: Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) Complement: 22 No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate A14 Resolution 1997 Ex-USS Tenacious (AGOS 17). Replaces Tui (II) and Monowai (II). Active. Note: Built in 1989 by Halter Marine Inc, Gulfport, Mississippi, USA.

Inshore Patrol Training Craft
