Rothsay Class Type 12 (Anti-Submarine) Frigates

Displacement (tons): 2,144 Standard, 2,557 Full Load Dimensions (feet): 370 x 41 x 17.4 Propulsion: 2 x Double reduction geared turbines, 30,000 hp, 2 shafts Max. Speed (knots): 30 Armament: 2 x 4.5-inch, 1 x 40mm Bofors, 2 x Limbo anti-submarine mortars, 12 x 21-inch torpedo tubes Complement: 240 No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate F111 Otago (I) 22/6/60 Originally ordered as HMS Hastings. Fleet Training ship 1981. Paid off to reserve 7/11/83. Replaced by Southland. F148 Taranaki 28/3/61 Reserve 1977. Recomm'd as Training frigate in 1979. Decomm'd 18/6/82. Sold in 1983 and broken up in Auckland. Replaced by Wellington. Note: Otago built by Thornycroft, UK and Taranaki built by White, UK.

Whitby Class Type 12 (FF) Frigate

Speed (knots): 31 Armament: 2 x 4.5-inch, 1 x 40mm Bofors, 2 x Limbo anti-submarine mortars Complement: 250 No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate F77 Blackpool 6/66 On loan from RN pending the arrival of Canterbury. Returned to RN 6/71 and later scrapped. Note: Built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast, Nthn Ireland.

Leander Class Type 15 (FFH) Frigates

Displacement (tons): 2,450 Standard, 2,860 Full Load (Waikato) 2,470 Standard, 2,990 Full Load (Canterbury) Dimensions (feet): 373 x 41 x 18 (Waikato) 373 x 43 x 18 (Canterbury) Propulsion: 2 x Double reduction geared turbines, 30,000 hp, 2 shafts Max. Speed (knots): 30 (Waikato) 28 (Canterbury) Aircraft: Aft Helicopter deck and hangar for Westland Wasp. Armament: 2 x 4.5-inch, 2 x 20mm, 2 x Seacat Missile launcher, 6 x 21-inch torpedo tubes Complement: 248 (Waikato), 243 (Canterbury) No. Name Commissioned Notes/Fate F55 Waikato (II) 16/9/66 Decomm'd 3/7/98. Not replaced! Sunk off Takakuka, Northland, on 2/12/00, for use as a dive wreck. F421 Canterbury (I) 22/10/71 Broad-beamed version of this class. Recently refitted for Seasprite operations. Active. Laid up in 1967 and later sold to Argentina as Neuquen. M1178 Santon 1965 Used at Singapore as a patrol boat. Reverted to RN 9/66. Laid up in 1967 and sold to Argentina as Chubet. Note: Hickleton built by Thornycroft, UK. and Santon built by Fleetlands, UK.

Robert D. Conrad Class (AGOR) Research Ship

Monowai Class (AGS) Survey Ship
