75 (NZ) Squadron
Their Bases
1939 --1946
Disbanded in Essex in 1919, the Squadron was reformed in 1937 as a Heavy Bomber Squadron but in March, 1939, become a Group Pool Squadron or, in other words, assumed the role of what was later known as an Opereational Training Unit.
Soon after the outbreak of war the Squadron was posted to No. 6 (Training ) Group and on the 4th of April, 1940 its' No plate, with the letters "NZ" added was transferred to a Royal New Zealand Air Force heavy boamber flight which was based at feltwell, Norfolk, a station in No 3 group.
No 75 (NZ) Squadron of the RAF was the first and only New Zealand Bomber Squadron to be formed in Bomber Command.
In October, 1945, No 75 Squadron was disbanded, but in December, 1946 because of the honours gained by its' New Zealand personnal, the Air Ministry suggested that the Royal New Zealand Air Force should take over the Squadrons' number plate to perpetuate their memory. Then as a culminating honour, in 1958 the Queen Mother presented the Squadron with its' Standard in New Zealand
