Welcome to The Nashville, Tennessee Chapter!

Our chapter was founded in October 2001, here in the Middle portion of the state. On our links page are links to the National chapter; and you will find information on how to join, donate and contribute your blankets, afghans and quilts to this worthy charitable project. Our territory encompasses the areas about 1 hour (50 miles) Nashville, serving Davidson, Rutherford, Trousdale, Williamson, Wilson Counties. We will be adding other counties as we grow! We collect our quilts from these counties and keep them in these counties.

We currently, serving children in the following facilities:

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital

Middle Tennessee Medical Center

Children's Services, Lebanon

The Exchange Club, Murfreesboro

Labanon Police Department

Murfreesboro Fire Department

Smyrna Fire Department

Home Safe, Lebanon

Since the chapter began, we have delivered over 200 blanket to traumatized children throughout the six counties. Sadly more blankets are needed because there will always be children in need.

More "Blanketeers" are needed to fill these needs and to serve more children. There is no time limit. Blankets can be donated at any time, any season, and as many as can be made.

In these pages, you can find links, patterns, an intro to the founder of this chapter, and drop off locations for completed quilts, comforters, afghans and blankets, as well as make supply or financial contributions.

Project Linus' Mission Statement

All chapters of Project Linus operate under the auspices of the home office, whose banner we proudly fly! Each chapter choses its own methods of distribution, meeting formats and policies, as long as they adhere to the guidelines set out for us by our head honchos.

But regardless of where our chapters are, we all try to follow the same heart felt "mission statement" - by giving a blanket to a child, we are providing a hug and love when they need it most! The children are from newborns to 18, chronically ill, terminally ill or in crisis. They need our time and affection, and by donating new, washable blankets, we can provide those hugs, just as if we were standing next to them!

With over 250 chapters in the United States, plus affiliate chapters in Canada and England, our organization continues to supply blankets to children in need. Although Project Linus originally donated blankets to pediatric cancer patients, recipients now include any child who is seriously ill or traumatized in some way -- in other words "children in need of a big hug."

Project Linus welcomes blankets of all sizes and styles, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. Blankets must be new, handmade and washable. You don't have to be an expert to create a blanket that is beautiful to a child!

History of Our Chapter of Project Linus

This chapter was created in October of 2001 and Kit was appointed Coordinator. They held our first Blanket Day on March 16, 2002 in Lebanon, TN at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Chruch. Several "blanketeers" were recruited that day through newspaper articles and television coverage. The Chapter was on its way!

Recent Events

OUR FIRST CONTRIBUTION of BLANKETS for CHILDREN was made this month to W.A.S. - Women Are Safe. This organization serves a four county radius here in middle Tennessee, and their central (open to the public) main office is in Centerville, TN. We donated a box of crocheted afghans, from infant to pre-teen sizes, as well as some new books, games and stuffed animals for the holidays. We hope to have a link here soon for W.A.S., in the meantime, if you would like more information on this organization for Women and Children suffering from abuse, write to Laura Hulka

THANKS to our blanketeers for making this donation possible!

PUBLICITY

Publicity will be an important factor in the growth of our chapter, especially given the rural nature of our unit. Laura will be available to talk to groups about Project Linus; and would appreciate members and interested parties passing out flyers, brochures and telling friends about the good works that Project Linus does. Please let Laura know what you would be willing to do, and if you know of any speaking engagements that would help further the cause! THANKS!
