Raynald's Home Page: Who am I?

My name is Raynald Levesque. I am a 46 year old Canadian living in Boucherville, (Quebec). Like the majority of the 7 million people living in the Province of Quebec, my mother tongue is French.

Professional life

I am an actuary, in Canada this means a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA for those in the know). Since 1982, I have been working for the Aon Consulting in Montreal. In September 1996, the company held a meeting of consultants in Nanaimo, BC. You can see some pictures of this memorable event.

Family life

I am the oldest of a family of 8 children. Three of my brothers and sisters have a presence on the net: Ren� (newly born on the Web), Micheline and Carolle.

My wife Nicole and I have now been happily married for 24 years. Nicole and our three children, M�lanie, Karine and Francois (aka Merlin on IRC) appear in the next pictures.

Other Interests

I like computers, the NET, mathematics, cats,jokes, movies, vacations(!), hiking, camping and nature in general.

I also like to exchange with far away friends from around the world.

Technological/Medical Wonder

After having worn glasses for about 28 years, I decided (in June 1996) to undergo a laser correction of my vision. The exact name of the procedure is a Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), it is performed using an Excimer Laser. This operation can correct myopia and astigmatism.

The 2 eyes were done 6 days apart. The laser "worked" for 22 seconds for my right eye and 16.8 seconds for my left eye.

The operation itself is completely painless. The laser is controlled by a computer (aren't they nice?). If the eye moves, the computer immediately stops the treatment and resumes once the eye is again looking at the "target" point. There is some discomfort during the first 2-3 days after the operation (it is as if one had some dust in the eye.)

Results: 20/20 vision without glasses!!

I highly recommend the procedure and would do it again without any hesitations. (If you want to know more, there is a lot of information on the net, look for PRK).
