I like to exchange with PenPals (Oops! I mean KeyPals) from around the world. I think this is an excellent way to broaden one's horizons.
.
I encourage all those who visit this page to do the same. I believe that if everybody had a correspondant in an other country, the world would be better off.
To date my experience is that the concerns and/or objectives of my KeyPals are very similar to mine. Human nature is human nature no matter where you're born.
In case you're interested to find a KeyPal, the best way is to read through the newsgroup soc.penpals or to send a message to that newsgroup describing your interests and the kind of people you would like to correspond with.
I presently have 4 KeyPals on the Net, three of whom have a Home Page.
Desiree lives in North Vancouver B.C.(Canada). She was raised in Saskatchewan (a Canadian province) but was born in the U.K., she has fond memories of her trips to that part of the world.
Desiree is a freelance librarian and online searcher, she is mostly involved in environmental and pollution issues. She was published (mainly before 1990) in BC Outdoors, Pacific Fishing and Borealis (this one subsequently went belly up but Desiree assures me this had nothing to do with them publishing her work :-)).
We have discussed various subjects ranging from strawberries, raspberries, her wine making techniques, Canadian politics (a rather sad and depressing subject...), monarchy, earthquakes and hockey.
People without dreams, are actually dead.-Hubert Reiner 17/1/96
Hubert's Home Page:http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1007/
Hubert lives is Nuernberg (Germany). He is married, his wife Birgit and him have 3 beautiful children. You can see their pictures in his Home Page.
Hubert has travelled extensively. In addition to German, he can manage to communicate in French, Italian and English (these are the languages I know about). He works for the immigration department of the German Government. He saw many waves of asylum seekers coming to Germany. If I had to describe Hubert with two words, I would say he is a poet and an humanist. He would like to eventually write a novel. He has the title and some of the plot figured out. If only he had the time!
Our discussions included Canadian politics (the referendum), our children, vacations, the Israel/Palestinian situation, getting old, unification of Germany.
Frank lives about 20 km south of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. He is an engineer specializing in automation processes. His wife (who is also an engineer) and him jointly own a consulting firm. They have two nice children.
Frank loves sports and hiking. We have discussed the traditions of our respective country, international and Canadian politics (again the referendum), our jobs, computers. In addition to his mother tongue, he speaks English, German and some French.
Dave is his mid 30's. He is married to Kathryn, they have a lovely little girl who started school in September 1995. This was a moving experience for the parents...You know, their baby was almost leaving the nest :-)
Dave is a manager in a company which manufactures (high precision) temperature measuring instruments. He loves gadgets. (so do I)
We started our correspondance is August 1995. Some of the subjects we have talked about include movies, politics, the situation in Ireland, the mad cows, kids, our hiking experience, the weather. Dave has a good sense of humour.
