| This is a view of Hohman Avenue Tower in Hammond, Indiana taken in the ninties, note Hohman Ave. overpass on right. This elimnated much of the vehicle congestion due to the numerous grade crossing at this location. I worked this tower in 1962 off the operator's extra board. It was a very busy place at the time. . .efforts are underway to preserve this piece of northern Indiana railroad history. Photo by Mark Stanek | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This is a view of JN 71st Street Tower in South Chicago taken in 1994. It is inactive and I don't know if it is still standing? Note the cleared areas in the immediate front of the building, some of the NYC mainline tracks once ran here. It appears that the only trackage still being used is the former PRR and some of that has been removed, as well. I worked this tower on and off during the early 60's from the operator's extra board. It was in control of NYC, NKP and BRC trains. Englewood yard was just west of this location and many NYC freights originated here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This view looking northeast of the NYC tower at Schnieder, Indiana after it had been closed. The Kankakee Belt of the NYC track is visible in the foreground. This line ran from South Bend to Zearing, Illinois, a little over 200 miles. It crosses the NYC's Danville (Egyptian) Line at grade here. That line ran from Indiana Harbor, Indiana to Danville, Illinois, a distance of just over 109 miles. In 1963 there were five scheduled freights on this line per ETT No. 13.
