Authors I like to read. No, not actually 'read' the authors, read the books they write...oh shut up.
J.R.R.Tolkien
Yes, he is probably my favourite author. The sheer scale of Lord of the Rings makes it unbeatable. And I am incredibly proud to say I am a person who has struggled my way through The Silmarillion as well, and it's mindblowing. The movie's awesome too.
Anne McCaffrey
A less well-known author, but that's not to say she isn't almost as good. Most famous of her series and my personal favourite is the Pern series, more widely recognised as 'The Dragon Books'. Who would have thought a series of books about Dragons would be Science Fiction? Definately not the idiots in the book shop who classify it as Fantasy. Twats.
Theres also the Talent/Tower and the Hive series which is my second favourite. Set on future Earth, proof is discovered that people can actually do things with their minds. These 'Talents' set up an organisation to help us normal folks but if any of you have seen the X-men movie (and if you haven't why not?!) you'll know it isn't as easy as that.
Ian Irvine
Least well known of my favourite authors, Ian Irvine, author of the amazing The View from the Mirror series. The sequel series to this, The Well of Echoes is promising to be just as good. He has also written a near-future eco-thriller (I'm not sure what this is either, I haven't read this one) series of which the first two books are called The Last Albatross and Terminator Gene. If you want to find out more, visit my Ian Irvine website - The Three Worlds.
The Late, the Great, Douglas Adams
The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. What can I say? Genius.
Other Authors I Like (but not good enough to get their own section).
Arthur C. Clarke
Guy Gavriel Kay - The Fionavar Tapestry
Robin Hobb - The Farseer Trilogy
Holy Lisle - The Secret Texts
